This thread is a sad dungeon

My nerd cave is a sad dungeon

;_;

So he just became a warmonger and went to the Hamlet because he thought it would quench his bloodthirst.

Reynauld had a hard life

More like BADDEST dungeon.

But seriously, I fucking love everything about this game, except for the gameplay itself. It's a damn shame it's such a slog to play through.

Still buying the expansion.

>man fighting wars is way more fun than this family shit, I'm out

how is this sad?

He didn't choose the VULT life.
The VULT life chose him.;

Yeah, this is actually pretty rad.

Doesn't the crusader mention her at some point when he starts to panic?

>Yes, I married once. But she is dead now
>Why did I trade her for this life? She loved me...
>Father! I defy all that you made me!
>Take me now. I have already sacrificed so much...
This game is sad

dismas KILLED AND ROBBED THEM

They're actually making it less of a grind in the upcoming free patch.

BOUNTY HUNTER BACKSTORY WHEN

if that shorter game mode requires you to start a new game i'll be fucking pissed

How wouldn't it require you to start a new game?

Fuck

He enjoys it? I always got the impression that he left because he saw what he was fighting to protect.

It wont do him justice and you know it

Ten bucks his backstory is him just getting bored because hes too good at bounty hunting normal schmucks

modify the XP values or whatever on the fly? i don't see how that isn't possible

I'll give it a go. The constant need to retrain teams of characters randomly off the wagon just to do shit because everyone outlevels everything in 4-6 dungeon runs kind of drives me mad.

I thought he saw that one day he would kill them instead of protecting them

>his family life is a mellow blue
>the war is a violent and angry red
>as he stares down at the calm family below his memories of the red war flash in his mind
>he turns away

He cant rest anymore, hes seen and done too much. Battle is a scar that will never heal for him.

Spare the others, I am ready.

i of kill would them protecting thought day he saw one instead

You are never going to be able to transition from military to civilian life. That's why many peacekeepers resign back to the duty once they realize the only way to keep the nightmares away is to live through them every day.

This is an obvious analog to Baldwin

Yes. Thank you.

The gameplay is still shallow and poorly designed in general

>inb4 gitgud at a grind simulator

The lepers actual name is baldwin you know

okay

Im so sorry reynauld

The fancanon I chose to believe

Wrong.

The Crusader's wife is a peasant woman with a ~3yr old boy when he leaves. When he comes back from his first war, she's still a peasant woman and his boy has grown, he's about 8.

The woman + child Dismas shot are nobles, hence the clothing and the fact that they're riding in a carriage.

Also, pic related.

Why'd you post the shitty version?

I want to have hot and desperate sex with doctor to feel alive once more as we try to forget the death awaiting us

What if Reynauld sent the money he made waging war home so his family could at least have a decent life?

Child is still too young compared to Reynault's

Sup fellow adventurers,

just a friendly reminder to get the fuck out of my dungeon after you're done with your objective :3

Would be a shame if anything happened to those half dead and very very stressed out level 5 heroes and their inventory FULL of glittering treasure while they stumble around in complete darkness because you greedy fucks would rather carry another 1500 gold in TRINKETS AND BAUBLES instead of carrying torches, wouldnt it?

>level 5 heroes
>half dead and stressed

The boy dismas shot is far too small to be reynaulds son. Compare reynaulds son and wife's height in his comic, then look at the relative heights of the woman dismas shot and the boy she's holding. Unless the boy went back in time to get smaller or his wife had a second growth spurt, that isn't reynaulds family.

>The gameplay is still shallow and poorly designed in general

only if you're too lazy to plan your raids properly.

you can easily do medium or even long lvl 3 missions with a working combo of lvl 2 heroes, the same way you can turn a lvl 3 mission with a full lvl 4 group into a grindy clusterfuck that costs the lives of 2 group members.

it's not about grinding, but selecting the right tools for the job.

I seriously cannot believe people even think dismas shot reynaulds kid.

He shot his own

YOURE FUCKING NEXT

...

Selecting the right tools for the job, then grinding with them for 60 hours

I would be more keen on the "right tools for the job" mantra if you had more choice in your teams. You can go 20 weeks without seeing a single character from a class with stunning regularity. You could go weeks without getting any solid frontline or backline characters. Its too RNG to always have the best team for the job.

NOT FUCKING LIKELY

Jesus christ, is there anything more STRESSFUL than having àn Abomination in your party?

He's my favorite, and in second place is bounty hunter tied with houndmaster.

...

>try to take abomination for once
>crusader and vestal won't let me do this
>well fuck him then

It is.

The thing you can read from it is that Rey went crusading not only due to what crusaders usually did it for, but also for his family.

Point is he crusaded too hard. So hard that he sees returning to his family as difficult because he changed so hard.

BULLSHIT.

Rey's son grew from little kid to a fine young man.

The kid in Dismas's comic was the same age as Rey's kid when Rey was GOING TO JOIN THE CRUSADE.

>taking crusader and vestal
>not Man at Arms and Occultist

>tfw you bring tentacle mohammed with you because all your vestals are either in the treatment ward or demanding MORE PILLOWS
>no group heal whatsoever
>no healing abilities on your group members
>keep spamming sky tentacles and vulnerability hex as long as everybody is relatively healthy
>as soon as somebody gets below 30%, you just pray for those RNG gamble crit heals because you really dont want to die right now

Well, at least it's not as boring as the guaranteed vestal heals

Vestal + MaA = dream team

I don't like MaA. Occultist is good tho and I actually use him more than vestal, it's just that you rarely have him at the beginning and so I never got the habit of using abomination

>Not sending three Plague Doctors and Baldwin to the final level of the Darkest Dungeon
>Not have him snort drugs and make him rage so hard he kills the final boss (reduced to nearly 50%) in one strike

Has anyone EVER tried Man at Arms with the retarded position 4 shield trinket?

pic related, what did they mean by this?

Sounds good on paper until you're in a situation where everyone is half health or worse, which is stupidly common without a steady stream of healing, and the Occultist decides to start healing for

>I don't like MaA
>I don't like the best buffer/debuffer and mobile tank in the game

Ideology and roleplaying don't need superfluous things such as efficiency

Not to mention the best dialog.

>This line will not break!
>We move as one and strike as one!
>I am your wall! Fear nothing!
>The key to a continued heartbeat is to MOVE YOUR FEET

Best girl coming through.

Does anyone know if the DLC is going to add new classes?

>DLC

when?

also, is the radiant update live yet?

>Protect position 1 and 2
>Riposte if you ever find yourself out of position 4
>spam bolster and command to never get hit and never miss again

>they tease an awesome witchunter warhammer looking motherfucker
>We didnt make him a class because that would be too obvious

Ree's aside the answer is probably. They mentioned being afflicted with the red thirst so my bet is that if you dont cure the red thirst you get a vampire hero that takes the template of whatever hero it spawned from. Possibly with an abomination esque transformation(the abom vampire is some gargoyle motherfucker for maximum rip and tear)

there is going to be dlc is it going to be paid ?

>too obvious

More like too OP. No one can go insane with that many purity seals and cloves of garlic.

>bandit ambush
>everybody gets brutally killed like in goblin slayer

That's the secret of the inquisition. They were always insane

April unless it gets delayed again.

Before or after they rape them?

>vampires
>will most likely have attacks that heal them
>can crit
>never miss
>eternal struggle

>Go after the prophet
>Completly forgot to bring trinkets
>Also forgot to switch my skills and end up with no one to protect to tank
>Vestal die at the first deathblow
At least the vestal was only lv1

someone edit so there's no kid when he leaves and when he comes back the kid is black

Why would we want to illustrate your fantasy, user?

>only have the crew left to have all bosses killed
>keep coming back once in a while to try and kill them
>can never get them
>always have some shit fights right before the boss
>always have to retreat or risk losing my level 6s

>masquerade of the red death themed dungeon

FUCKING

YES

Stop posting the shitty version.

The gameplay isn't bad, it's just that it forces you to do everything over and over again.

It has about 10 hours worth of content, which could've been dragged out to 20 hours of enjoyment all things considered. But instead of taking 10-20 hours like it should have, it takes about 80 hours to finish. In those 80 hours you'll have be completing all content three times over, and a streak of bad luck at the wrong moment can easily cost you another 2-5 hours of grind just to get back what you lost. And that only gets more serious towards the end due to a combination of factors working in your disadvantage.

I love the game. It's obviously crafted with love and care and it succeeds at most of the things it sets out to do. I finished it once and I'm definitely picking it back up lkater on to check out the "fast mode" and the DLC content, but I feel they made some highly questionable design decisions which seem to spring either from the misconception that tedium is the same thing as challenge, or from some desire to artificially stretch out the game's length past the breaking point.

>Crew
How stressful.

Honestly I get situations where every mob seems to hate one motherfucker in particular more often than where the damage gets spread out evenly across the group.

Of course I also stick to the strategy of "heal early, heal often", so HP damage is rarely an issue with me. Stress tends to be far more lethal, but at least you can ignore it for longer.

>leper gets chained
>alright need to get rid of this fuck quick
>bounty hunter hits
>1 hp left on the guy
>alright someone will finish him off
>the boss then takes THREE FUCKING TURNS
>damaging my leper the whole time
>healing each turn
>bringing my vestal to death's door
>and putting a bleed on her
>have to waste occultist's turn to heal vestal
>end of round
>the boss gets three turns AGAIN

Yes.

why does your crusader have d ifferent helmet ?

any tips for the weald i keep getting diseases

Dont interact with curious without the proper item

Bring higher disease resist heroes(Or just a plague doctor to cure diseases in camp)

Bring fast heroes so you spend less time fighting and dont have to watch four dogs take their turn before you clean them up

It's a skin.

>(Or just a plague doctor to cure diseases in camp)
Just want to say the Grave Robber is the best disease curer. With both the PD and GR you can cure all diseases on the entire party for just 5 Camp time.

i think that a lot of procgen developers feel that "yet another stupid death" is a key feature that has to be present. most procgen games handle this by making death likely but fast and inconsequential. darkest dungeon took an alternate approach, you can do a lot of prepwork but the campaign is so long that it's bound to screw you eventually

i can't play YASD poker games any more because i feel like it's the developer using procgen to abdicate the actual job of design

>understanding the power of man at arms
it's like playing the game on easy mode, really

I don't think YASD game design is necessarily. But there are two aspects of DD that don't gel well with the YASD aspect. The first is that almost every death in DD is because of bad luck. You can go a long way to mitigate bad luck, but that doesn't change that fact. After a relatively short learning period, most players won't be losing characters unless it's to a boss they haven't faced before, or just plain bad luck. The first is acceptable. The second is annoying at best, but because death is a serious thing in DD it's more than annoying. It's being punished for something you had no hand in, without even having the opportunity to learn from the experience and do better next time. Which brings me to the second aspect that doesn't fit: Death is expensive. As you point out, a lot of games that expect you to die a lot make death relatively fast and inconsequential. Games like Super Meat Boy or Hotline Miami are perhaps the most extreme examples of this, where you can die multiple times in the span of a single minute and not feel like you're being punished. Old-school roguelikes, while demanding a lot more time per YASD situation, make death bearable because making a new character is literally just having a fresh go at the game and not some kind of punishment. But in DD death is pure punishment. You don't get a fresh try, you just go on except now you've wasted a lot of valuable resources. And it's neither fast nor inconsequential, since the game requires you to level, equip and maintain a healthy stable of characters in order to keep progressing (especially towards the end) and losing one could mean hours of work lost. Hours that, as said, won't be spend making a fresh attempt, but rather to grind shit you've already finished three times over just to recover your losses.

As for procedural generation, I think there are right ways to do it and wrong ways, but I don't find it at all bothersome in DD. It sometimes results in dumb dungeon layouts that force heavy backtracking, but that's something that could be fixed with a better algorithm for generating dungeons and not any inherent problem with procgen itself.

Son of a bitch.

>that Cove battle theme

youtube.com/watch?v=ja1texxSyj8

What does Reynauld see?

>is necessarily bad

He sees good vidya, and knows he can never enjoy it anymore after becoming jaded.

anyway you can just cut it to reynauld? i wanna use it as an avatar. thanks mein nigs
