Tfw you start a replay and realise this game has aged like complete ass compared to 2d jrpgs and later 3d jrpgs

>tfw you start a replay and realise this game has aged like complete ass compared to 2d jrpgs and later 3d jrpgs

Nah.

Most early 3D games aged terribly

just the character models. even its cut and dry ATB system holds up, and materia is perhaps the peak of FF customization

no it hasn't

The backdrops are all prerendered so overall the game still looks very nice

Its fine.

I play it every year or so. It's a great game. I don't buy the "aged like ass" meme, I play games from every generation including the early 3d generation and they're still great games. Sometimes I play old games I've never played before and I've never thought "imagine if this had a feature like newer titles". I'm honestly not sure what that says about me.

Still pretty good, text boxes will always be better than VAs

If you just mean graphically, frankly, I always thought VII was an eye bleeding piece of shit even back in gen 5.

Otherwise it was ok and holds up as ok.

This.

Some cutscenes and the lego character models look weird but the game holds up in every other department.

>tfw you start a replay and realize only the visuals have aged and the gameplay is still top notch along with the music and characters and story

graphics don't matter
FFVII is still the best game in mainline. Nothing will ever top the SNES-PS1 era.

X

>super cutscene heavy
>Tidus is literal naive anime boy character
>VAs over Text

X did lots of new shit that worked, but other things about the game carried on into sequels which killed what made FF great. In my honest opinion my brother.

Sounds like you aged like ass.

>aged terribly

Define what this means without bias.

>materia is perhaps the peak of FF customization
hahahaha

I disagree. It plays about same as 2D RPGs, but game being on PS1 allowed dungeons to have more complex designs than top-down view from SNES era. If character models are a problem, I think they actually add to the game. When field models are so simplified, you can easily project the portraits of the party to them, and you'll have easier time connecting with world and assuming that all characters look similar.

>materia
>peak

i played it for the first time a few months ago.
it might look like shit, but the gameplay is amazing and it's stacked with a staggering amount of diverse content.

>tfw Aeris death was supposed to be sad but it's actually just a scene where Cloud goes full retard and beats on her dying body followed by a cinematic where no one questions him sperging out

>Cutscenes out the ass
>No real feeling of exploration at all as most maps are small and filled with corridors
>Tidus literally is a meme character and doesn't fit into the game at all (BUT THATS THE POINT LOL)
>Clunky battle system (But sphere grid was probably the best implementation of advancing character skills)

FFX wasn't terrible, but the story was too simplistic, and the characters too uninvolved, to really enjoy it. Not to mention all character development is linear and just feels like checkpoints instead of actual character development

played it for the first time last summer and it was honestly a 10/10
"FF7 is overrated" or "it's aged badly" are some of the worst memes in gaming

>>Clunky battle system

How?

Ignoring all of the other problems:

>not gameplay
>not gameplay
>not gameplay

While I don't think X is the best in the series, your post is idiotic.

I'd put FFV's Job System and FFVIII's Junctions over it

ill agree on v or even x-2's job system
but you are dead wrong on viii's junction system man

>Bad UI
>half assed order mechanic
>Navigating any menu is a hassle in battle

Clunky I guess was a bad word for it, it's very ugly and inefficient, but the actual battle system itself as in how it operates isn't THAT terrible but its needlessly complex for how easy everything is.

Just because nobody cared to agree with you the first time doesn't mean you should samefag, user.

The junction system was probably the worst system in FF

>Junctions more customizable than materia

Wut

The gameplay is good though, that's what i mean by the things it did right. They changed the formula and actually did well with it, even X-2 is pretty great for gameplay.

It's the fact that this got them a boner for changing the formula, so they dicked around with 13, haven't played 15 yet.

Random battles are painfully slow even at max speed. It also suffers from something a lot of games of the era do with shitty fixed camera angles and awkward movement.

That's not to say it's unplayable or anything, but is definitely not a timeless masterpiece.

I finished the game with Aerith, Cloud and Vincent. Never much cared for the other characters in battle, especially since Vincent can just Meteor the fuck out of everything. Thinking of replaying it, who's fun to use?

are you sure you played this game?

15's combat is centered on abusing Noctis' teleport powers in all of its applications. Combos, dodges, closing and gaining distances, and the like. It's ridiculously fun once you master it but if you can't get that down prepare to have your anus licked by enemies 20 levels lower than you.

As for flaws, its biggest one is the Danger State where going into 0 HP doesnt immediately kill you allowing you to heal. This mechanic pretty much kills any tension in fights because it ensures you can never get a Game Over as long as you hoard healing items. The game has tons of bullshit enemies that require skill to beat but Danger State throws that right out of the window.

Worst system is FF2's "Punch Yourself to Randomly Get Random Stat Ups".

Junction is pretty bad though in my opinion. While it can be very powerful and pretty easily broken it encouraged a lot of people to just do mindless grinding on certain enemies and then made you not want to use most spells.

I don't see the problem here

Reminder that the remake will remove:
>Barret's wild flailing and cursing
>Aeris' original street smart personality, replaced instead by a cutesy innocent one
>Cid's abuse to Shera
>Yuffie's short shorts
>The name "SOLDIER" for a group of elite soldiers
>Cloud implicitly getting touched by muscular gay men
>The squatting minigame
>Tifa and Aeris threatening to crush/cut off a fat pimp's balls
>Hojo trying to breed a human and a dog-lion
>That muscular speedo casino owner guy being so weird
>A fat pimp trying to rape an upside-down sixteen year-old Asian girl
>Rufus' and Tseng's deaths
>The slapping minigame
>A giant robot named "Proud Clod"

anyone who says "ff7 has aged horribly" are talking about the graphics

they should then be ignored as muh gwafix children are tasteless, unimaginative plebs

>Finished
>with Aerith

>Navigating any menu is a hassle in battle

how can you say this when 7 has the same "issue" when navigating through magic materia, especially blue magic or the enemy skill materia

>prepare to have your anus licked

Wow, I'm fucking retarded. Cloud was my healer after she died, I was so used to just her doing it. It was Cloud, Yuffie and Vincenzo Meteor Masher. Did Cid ever become worthwhile? I never had fun using him.

my decision on whether i buy the remake or not hinges completely on one thing

cloud barret cid is best team make up because the characters are all interchangeable except for limitbreaks which they have the most damaging ones

the minute stat differences dont matter once you stack someone with magic materia anyway and if it bothers you theres always the stat boosting items from morphing the gelnika monsters

graphically awful, awkward dialogue, story makes little sense etc etc

shouldnt that be two?

This is the most overrated final fantasy
X is the best
7 has a shit story, cloud is a joke and sephiroth is cliche

What if I told you I haven't a fucking clue about morphing and went the entire game without using most of the yellow materia

Which is what

Dont you mean two things?

If you base your team off of limit breaks, the top characters are Barrett (18 lines), Cid (18 lines), and Cloud (15 lines). The optimal-ness of this, of course, depends on the fact that everyone is hitting max damage.

Cloud is actually a decent character. This shocked me when I first played 7 because I had experienced Kingdom Hearts beforehand, and I just assumed he'd be that silent, brooding character from the beginning. But Cloud is actually a fun character with some really outrageous dialogue and funny moments with the party. "Let's mosey!"

then probably red 13 and yuffie for their buff and heal limits since your attack damage sucks with everyone loaded with magic

Cloud got flanderized hardcore. Its disappointing, to say the least.

go fuck yourself OP
I love cait sith

Who Cloud/Barret/Tifa here?

So those things are fine when the game is new, or does it come out of the oven aged in that case?

also I should have mentioned if you wanna get REAL technical cloud barret vincent is best team if you throw nothing but maxed out KotR into barrets ultimate weapon and kill 64,000 enemies with vincent since they can overflow and delete emerald weapon

I never liked 7 anyway.
I think 3 is my favorite, especially the remake on ds.

Just put another 60 hours in to this, still love it, breeding a gold chocobo is still a pain in the ass.

Sephiroth is what started the cliche. Seinfeld isn't funny and all of that

To this day I still haven't managed it.

wrong. no other game will ever have this much charm.

I don't understand this meme. It's quick and easy if you know what you're doing.

If you don't know what you're doing.... you'll never get it.

Is Gladio just a shit Barret?

This. It's literally a step by step process. I think there are 2 parts that require you to use a particular nut when breeding 2 particular chocobos breed....nut...hehe . If you start from nothing and you know what you're doing, you can probably have a gold chocobos in 3 hours. You could also go kill the ruby weapon, because I believe you get a gold chocobo for killing him.

ho ho

So you are literally implying that a story in a game can get worst as time goes on?

FYI I specifically said define what aged terribly means. Not what made FFVII age terribly. Although I am sure you knew what I said.

being able to kill Ruby Weapon means you don't need the Gold Chocobo

>even its cut and dry ATB system holds up

Problem I have with replaying the FFs in general is the combat is so fucking basic and boring. The dozens of superior combat systems that have come out since the SNES just make all pre-11 FFs boring. Hell even FF12 and 13's combat systems were simple as fuck.

ADHD is a hell of a condition

But you can win 95% of the battles by using just the characters' normal attacks.
