Apparently a chinese version of BOTH games is coming to steam, and Joyoland has posted on the pages that an english version is potentially on the table.
Could also pave the way for the Trails Evolution games to get a localization. It's not like they'd have to re-translate the dialogue. It'd be such a quick port.
Angel Turner
From what I recall, the main issue people have been pointing out regarding crossbell localization was the idea that a PC port for both games was not accessible. If they both show up on steam, even in chinese, that should significantly increase the chances of an english version releasing as well. This could be a big deal.
The question is how it would work. Joyoland isn't going to try to translate to english, are they? Would Xseed be involved? etc. Personally, I trust xseed to produce a high quality localization.
Juan Gutierrez
they fucking better give us a English version, I upvoted both of them + the ys ones.
Jace Bailey
Oh, man. Oh man, oh man, you DO NOT want this. What makes you think you want this. Why does a Chinese Google translate hack job sound good to you?
Jason Flores
Couldn't they work with xseed to get a real localization done?
Nolan Price
I need this in my life
Jaxson Wilson
If they worked with XSEED or someone else competent on an English version it would be great, if it's HK subtitled anime tier might as well not bother.
Isaac Wood
The problem with PC ports for them is that Falcom would have to be involved if XSeed was doing it. If these come out and an translation is done using the Joyoland version, it'd be Joyoland handling the localization, and that localization would probably not be available on Steam outside of Asia due to XSeed's exclusive rights to Falcom stuff.
At least, that's how it's been explained in the past.
Carter Ward
Would having a HK machine translation out there make it easier for the fan translations to get patched in?
Henry Flores
Doesn't change much. If XSEED think current sales are enough, I'm sure they will outsource a port themselves. We'll see, when 3rd comes around.
Eli Bennett
I don't see why they would localize it to english if it would only be available in Asia. If they're going to translate it at all, then they'll obviously be working with xseed or falcom in some way
It's obvious that falcom works with both xseed and joyoland, so why couldn't the three of them work it out?
Brandon Green
>I don't see why they would localize it to english if it would only be available in Asia.
To sell throughout Southeast Asia where Chinese/Japanese isn't spoken but most people speak some English. It's just like all the PS4 games lately like the Gundam games and SRW that have English localizations in the Asian territories. The English is almost always atrocious and barely understandable.
Chase Mitchell
Potentially. I don't know enough on the subject to be sure, and it probably depends on how Joyoland would approach it. I've seen some fan retranslations of games that are applied to the existing US version, some work off the JP game, and there's some weird shit with translations I've seen like when trying to restore cut content in a localization it being easier to just mod the JP version to have the US script and translating the cut content than to add it back to the US version, or JP romhacks being recreated in the US version because it's easier than hacking the JP romhack.
Gabriel Smith
Money? For Joyland, an Xseed translation would surely cost more than their own efforts.
Aiden Perry
Whatever, at the very least, having them on steam in chinese should hopefully put some pressure on xseed to get it done themselves.
Jack Edwards
Kiseki games do not deserve shitty machine translations. Part of the charm is the satisfying flow of dialogue that comes from xseed's localization.
Nathan Butler
It's all up to Falcom to hand them the port though. XSeed won't have any legal claim to the Joyoland port, it has to be done through Falcom. Now maybe the fact that this Chinese port exists at all is a good sign that Falcom has access to or ability to port it to PC for XSeed, just don't get you're hopes up for Zero/Ao any time soon. XSeed is well aware of the demand, and the sails of CS1/2 were good enough to get us TiTS 3rd, so there's a good chance we could see Ao/Zero eventually.
Samuel Gomez
I started the first Trails in the Sky game and I'm a few hours in but I'm not feeling really hooked. I'm up to the part where Estelle and Joshua are escorting the two journalists up the tower to take pictures, and it's all just very slow. Does the game pick up the pace relatively soon? It doesn't help that I'm playing on Hard and the normal battles kinda kick my teeth in
Dominic Evans
>Does the game pick up the pace relatively soon? Not really. You're better off waiting for Trails to Zero instead and coming back after if you're more motivated to learn about the setting
Jace Jackson
Are these the games that show the Crossbell tree project?
Charles Baker
You're just at the very beginning, user. The first game of Trails in the Sky is a slow burn. You need to savor the experience and enjoy it for what it is instead of trying to rush it. If you can't do that, then I doubt you'll enjoy the game.
Joshua Peterson
It's a slow burn game, but it's satisfying when you power through to the end.
Eli Smith
>Does the game pick up the pace relatively soon? Not at all, the whole game is a slow paced somewhat disconnected romp through a quaint fantasy world. Thats kinda the charm. If you're not autistically spending all your free time wringing as much NPC dialog of the game as you can, you're going to miss a lot of what makes that game fun.
Eli Collins
The first one is pretty self-contained focusing on Crossbell happenings but the second one is where it goes politics, Ouroboros, mercs etc etc
Austin Garcia
Yes
Asher Taylor
Alright cool, I just finished the 4 shrines and was confused about the Crossbell stuff
Jason Ross
>could pave the way for Evolution No it couldn't retard these aren't Evolution versions and Kadokawa ain't giving us gaijin pigs shit
Colton Baker
Evolution is trash anyway, nobody wants that.
Nathaniel Long
I'd really like for someone to rip the VA from the Vita version and add it into the PC versions but aside from that and SOME of the CGs yeah the Evo versions suck dick
Jacob Baker
Finished FC and SC and loved them, currently trudging through Cold Steel 1 and it sucks. Why does every conflict lack any kind of weight or tension? Why did they go with a fucking high school setting? They could have worked in a 'rebuilding the bracer guild' plotline without sacrificing the integrity of the series just to bring in otaku money.
The Laura and Fie drama was such forced and poorly written bullshit. Machias and Jusis' feud at the beginning was absolutely retardedly written even if the concept itself isn't bad. Just...What is going on with this game? Did Falcom's writers just stop caring?
Kevin Gutierrez
>Wasn't really feeling FC at the start >Get into it a lot more after Olivier joins >Leaves the party at the end of the chapter >Schera does too >Now I have to do battles with just 2 party members again
This isn't gonna be the case after every chapter, is it?
Landon Thompson
If Aksys can bring Tokyo Xanadu with japanese voiceover Zero/Ao Evolution is possible. Askys does what xseedont.
Jacob Powell
Just set up your quartz so Joshua has White Gehenna and you literally can't lose
Camden Edwards
Wasn't Tokyo Xanadu utterly underwhelming? I remember even importers said the combat was the only legitimately good part and when importers aren't calling the game amazing something's up.
I guess it's still good they're bringing it over properly.
Nicholas Hill
yeah you always end up with just Joshua and Estelle until the final chapter. After all, it's their story. Don't worry, though, everyone comes back to you.
Hunter Hall
The inner-class drama might seem a bit trite but it all builds up to a greater conflict. CS2 is where all the shit goes down. Most of CS1 is slice-of-life adventure like Trails in the Sky FC.
Caleb Edwards
Importers also gave Cold Steel flak and it turned out great. Basically the only opinion that matters is my own when I play the game
Jose Taylor
It's a shame FC did it so much better. Also I should clarify, I don't mind the class drama, I mind when it's as poorly written as it was. Machias was essentially autistically screeching REEEEE NOBLES whenever he and Jusis were on-screen together and Jusis would reply by going 'heh' and not even responding. It was just so fucking stupid. I had come to expect a lot more of this series' writing.
Logan Martinez
>外国人永远不会玩这个游戏 >我的脸现在
Nathan Ramirez
They say the soundtracks really good, better then YS 8's even.
Camden Price
yes we will.
Also, your statement made too much sense when translated through google. To me that says you just went on google and translated from english to chinese. Try again, kiddo.
Nicholas Campbell
Why would XSeed even do the translation?
It obviously would be another episode of "localization ruined the game again".
Jackson Cooper
wtf are you even talking about?
Anthony White
wth do china even play these games? I thought they hate Japan. So why are they making chinese translations instead of english ones where the fanbase is at for SURE?
Jack Wright
Oh yeah, btw China is communism too.
Jaxon Jackson
WTH!!!
Jaxson Hall
Surprisingly majority of the not Japan sales come from China and Korea. English fanbase is far smaller, for now.
Nicholas Fisher
I need it now
William Ortiz
> fanbase > implying these shitty JRPG is worth buying.
Just pirate it dude.
Jaxson Bell
Treat cs 1 and 2 as one game when it comes to character development.
Similar to luke in tales of the abyss if you have played it in a sense.
Josiah Rodriguez
fuck off and die, retard
Leo Thompson
I loved Abyss and while it's a slow burner and a Tales game the writing was much better than what I've seen of CS1 so far. Guess I'll reserve judgement until after CS2.
Gavin Hernandez
I felt the same after Cs1.
The worldbuilding is just a touch better than abyss if you view cs as a standalone, but the work that has gone into the past seven games can't be ignored.
Eli Richardson
>says its shit >continues to play it ???
David Parker
>他必须要用网上的翻译 >他看不懂汉字 >在2017年
Tyler Hernandez
If only, but can't be done for ps4 yet. After 3rd, I'm done with the series until the Zero/Ao.
Evan Allen
>Implying you didn't do the same thing user, it's obvious as fuck. If you were typing real chinese purely from mastery of the language, then google translate would NOT give such a clear and direct result when used to translate it back from chinese to english.
You may fool others, but you can't fool me, kiddo.
Parker Cooper
I want moon dwellers tier translation :DDD
Angel Turner
>that an english version is potentially on the table. The main worry now is whether or not it will be some machine translated garbage or if they'll actually get a real company on board to do it.
Angel Evans
Some high school student from Hong Kong will probably translate it for lunch money from the Chinese script
John Bailey
at least the fan translation is still going on
Henry Robinson
I'd buy both instantly.
The real question is will an english version come before 2023.
Isaac Murphy
>fan translation
Connor Wood
Just hope that they don't stop the project to show support for the (official?) English localization
William Phillips
better option than some chink shitting out the script in a week
Juan Clark
我就是写对的。别生气啊外国猪。你应该自己学个语言,进步你的教育水平啊
Hunter Foster
Is Anton still /ourguy/?
Evan Gomez
>taking a picture of your screen
Goddamn this is retarded.
William King
There is still supposed to be an English fan translation in the works, but the status of that project is currently unknown.
Christian Campbell
What a weird thing to happen. Why aren't these translated yet anyway?
Noah Powell
Because they're PSP games
Mason Allen
Well they're only on Sky the 3rd so far. The only reason why Cold Steel 1 and 2 got done already is, apparently, because falcom approached them insisting that they do it now. As a result, crossbell is the last remaining holdout of trails games with uncertain futures
Lucas Perry
Yeah, XSeed did a great job. I played the English Steam version and the Evo version of FC both partway through the first chapter and ended up just playing the English version because it was just really nicely done and more fun to read. May have been a good choice anyway with the amount of dialogue in these games, I can read Nip just fine usually, but with games that are more dialogue than anything it can still slow me down, like Persona 5. Though I'll have to play the Crossbell games in Japanese.
Cameron Davis
What's wrong? Some fan-translations are damn good. Honestly I know some fan-translators better than translators who work officially. Not sure what the state of fan-translated games is like these days though.
Ayden Jackson
When people hear fan translation, they often think of the retarded autists who hate a games official translation for whatever reason and insist they could do it better. Makes me think if the autistic nipfags who try to get people to play neptunia games with retarded retranslations done by bootyblasted nipfag fans
Jeremiah Anderson
Oh those. Yeah, some are pretty bad. I've heard that the FF VI fan-translation was supposed to be more accurate, but from the small amount I've seen it was just a literal translation and the translators clearly had no idea that translating means interpreting the meaning behind words and conveying it in another language, not "Look in the dictionary and replace the Japanese with the English equivalents". And then there's that god-awful J2e FF IV patch. Yeah, some people give fan-translators a bad name.
Lincoln Cox
The project is being run by people that vocally hate XSEED and made a stink about people wanting them to stick to the established localized terminology.
Just like with everything else the quality depends on who's working on it, and most fan translations are barely passable at best. Even the more popular and well known groups take huge liberties or outright break games with their patches.
Lincoln Brooks
>The project is being run by people that vocally hate XSEED and made a stink about people wanting them to stick to the established localized terminology.
Eesh. Granted I only played a few hours in Nip, from what I saw the localization looked great, even if they did take some liberties that ended up making it funnier.
Luis Sanders
>The project is being run by people that vocally hate XSEED
Not anymore. The lead guy who hated XSEED quit without saying a word and the project got taken over in December by people who have worked with XSEED in the past.
Caleb Lee
Oh well that's nice. I understand that not every official localization is great, it's one of the many things that caused me to learn Japanese, but not all official localizations are bad.
Dominic Young
Well they exist on PC as well, just not in English.
Anthony Brown
>I'd really like for someone to rip the VA from the Vita version and add it into the PC versions
They care more about people's position other than what they've actually done, literally politicans in gaming area.
And they probably pretty proud of themselves.
Nolan Sanchez
That's on XSeed to make. PC market in Japan is nonexistent outside of VN's and that is struggling enough.
Parker Reed
XSeed can't port it themselves
Justin Howard
They can outsource. If the funds are there, they will make it happen.
Owen Torres
>If the funds are there
Ryan Davis
Trails to Zero and Trails to Azure are already getting an English fan translation, the team working on both of them says Trails to Zero should be done within months now.
Jacob Nguyen
It seriously can't cost THAT much to translate something. I could understand having to port a game and how that could much more involved but simple translation? Really?
Juan Barnes
Source?
Mason Flores
Will she appear in CS3?
Nathaniel Perez
>Joyoland utilize some of the most atrocious DRM I have ever seen on games or software.
Several of there localized titles such as Y's Seven (Chinese for PC) had online activation (3 times max). To activate the second time you first need to deactivate your copy online on your pc. If your install got corrupted, you updated your pc or reformatted tough luck you need to order another key.
Jaxson Cook
green text not intended
Joshua Collins
Nope. The game picks up the pace in Chapter 3 then never stops though.
I suggest Cheat Engine so that the battles go way faster
Colton Torres
They'll add her in to show that Rean has surpassed her
I want the Liberl character to be Schera or Agate so they can interact with Olivier again
