What the fuck do they do all day, Sup Forums? That seems like an awfully low amount of content for a week, considering they have two offices with people 'working' full time. I'm a journalist and I alone produce more content for my newspaper every week than all of them combined, no joke. And the content isn't "playing games". Just curious.

Anyone else wonder what these guys and the average "gamer youtuber" do all fucking day?

If they were producing 6 or 7 reviews per week, I'd understand, since games usually take 9~10 hours to finish, but they only do like two a month at best and most of them are Dan's.

Well, they made up for it by doing 10 hour long streams when each new VR platform came out. That was actually pretty good coverage from them.

The rest of the week is a blur. Brad does nothing.

I was for two years, but haven't been for a while. I'll probably start pitching back in now that Dan is contained to the East.

It sounds more likely they deal with talking to people in the industry through emails and shit and going to preview stuff to get info on games yet most either gets canceled or they just fail to pick up what these people are telling them.

Well going by your metrics, lets say they do 6 QL a week. Those are usually an hour+, so we'll go safe and assume they're an hour each. Thats 6 hours. Plus 2 podcasts that are at least 2 and a half, so thats 9, and your "3-4 livestreams" would make it ~15 hours minimum, per week that they put out. 15 hours of video content a week seems pretty good?

How are you quantifying you "producing more content ... every week than all of them combined?"

This also makes no mention of any time they spend in meetings, planning live streams or QLs, or doing miscellaneous stuff on the business side.

It seems like you're making their job out to be that they do nothing but play video games and how they don't even do that enough for you.

Except the number of QLs has reduced over time to make room for the live streams. I would prefer them to cover more recent games like they used to than these streams of playing old games. Unless the old games were more interesting to actually watch someone else play.

Why do people still care about game reviewers?
If a game has no demo, you judge it with a longplay and if it looks fun to you, you get it.

You don't need a failed journalist to tell you what to play, they don't even play what they recommend.

I'm saying that none of their videos have enough production value to require much planning behind. They don't have scripted shows like The Final Bosman or shit like it where they need to actually write content or research. They don't have to rehearse things either.

What's the planning behind Quick Looks other than a "hey, let's record a video of us playing games" and an e-mail with one paragraph to a developer before that to ask for codes (that's being generous, since most of the time they're sent codes before they ask)?

What's the planning behind UPFs other than "hey, I'll bring game X, what game will you bring"?

What's the planning behind the podcasts other than "hey, show up at this time so we can record, I just grabbed 5 or 6 news and 4 or 5 e-mails to read"?

All of this can be done in one or two hours in a monday, which is what I assume they do. What they do after that, since they don't review games often? I'm comparing that to the work I do alone at a newspaper because my work actually requires hours of research, phone calls, writing, reading, recording, interviewing, meetings, listening to said interviews over and over again etc to produce content. And it's very manageable. I really do feel like our readers / viewers are getting what they're paying for.

All I'm saying is that I think GB is shortchanging their premium users, that's why I asked if they feel satisfied with the content GB puts out. I feel like I could count on one hand the number of gaming websites that actually seem to be producing an appropriate amount of content for the number of employees they have. To me, it feels like they've discovered people care mostly about their personalities and will endure droughts of content because they like them, despite paying for a monthly sub.

Giant Bomb videos have practically no editing. Even a Twitch streamer might cut out bits of their stream for Youtube videos. Giant Bomb dump their stream archives as is.

Well, you can see the amount of research, phone calls, interviews and stuff a journalist does in the content they produce, if they're professionals. You may say you don't like their content or even that it could be better, but you can see that things weren't simply didn't appear out of thin air.

Do you see research, phone calls and other behind the scene stuff in GB's Quick Looks, UPFs, podcasts? 80% of the time they don't even know the fucking american retail price of the games they're showing, when they're new.

I'm genuinely curious, do you really think there's a lot going on behind the scenes at GB? They don't do previews (which are actually some of the stuff that would require tons of phone calls), they do one or two reviews a month, if that, they're constantly mailed codes for games.
