Anyone else who feels fps are overrated as fuck? I can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps unless you move the camera very slowly. It feels the same otherwise. I got into an argument the other day with a roomate because he said I was an idiot playing on integrated graphics at 30fps (that's my only requirement for games, achieving a stable 30fps) - he says 30 fps is unplayable for him. He let me use his computer to play games at 120+ fps and I did notice a difference while moving the camera around, it felt smoother, but I don't think it makes a difference gameplay-wise.
I mean if you play competetively I get it, but why should casual gamers aim for more than 30fps?
Op here 24, 30 and 60 look the same to me But I do notice 24 being jerky while playing games, that's why I always try to go for 30
Samuel Morgan
how fucking retarded can you even be, that webm is interpolated unironically literally kill yourself
Parker Edwards
is your mom hot? post pics
Luis Howard
You absolutely can see the difference between 30 and 60, you just might not understand the terms. Even as a 14 year old or whatever I could tell the difference between Halo 3 and Modern Warfare's framerates, I just didn't understand that it was the framerate that was making them feel different. I still didn't prefer one over the other, though, and you're right, there's no real reason to aim for over 30 unless a game is action heavy. It's a meme term mustards parrot because they have buyer's remorse from spending triple the cost of a console to play the same games at higher framerates. It really doesn't matter unless you're playing a literal slideshow.
Dominic Foster
30fps doesn't bother me in thirdperson games where the player is viewed relative to the scenery
I read also there's a technical reason why 30fps looks worse on PC than console, it's to do with how Windows outputs the image
Eli Hughes
60 fps in first person games triggers me hard
3rd person not as much
Isaiah Robinson
For me, it is the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich.
Ethan Anderson
Tripfag piece of shit.
Asher Sanders
The question is, should developers feel obliged to up the frame rate if ported to PC? I remember the whole need for speed rivals fiasco where it was locked to 30, but I always felt like they had every right do that.
Like I don't agree with it personally, but seriously going out of the way to start petitions and send threats because it wasn't 60fps was straight up childish
Austin Rivera
There is something inheriting wrong about 60 fps. I always feel nauseated when I play with this many fps.
Bentley Wilson
I don't have to care, fighting games always run at 60 FPS.
I think there are people with a very inferior sight who can't indeed see the difference. Those debates always imply every people have the same eyes, it seems absurd. Like some people can't hear shit or have almost non existent taste buds.
Christopher Ortiz
source
John Gutierrez
brain problems lol
Ryan Nelson
Because it's 2017.
Andrew Ross
It was clearly taken from a 60fps video, dumbass tripfag.
Lucas Brooks
Most games are fine at a stable 30 fps for me, though higher is definitely preferable. Stuff like racing and fighting games though almost need to be 60.
Tyler Reed
if you can't tell the difference you may have diabetes
Brandon Rogers
even 60 fps looks like shit
Evan Howard
Anyone else who feels having a brain is overrated as fuck?
Christopher Green
Only retards care about 60fps in single player games.
Jaxon Nguyen
30fps with motion blur is nauseating
30fps makes it impossible to do some things like use a vehicle like a motorcycle and swerve between cars and be able to have it be responsive enough to not just crash constantly, also having a shit gaming platform means you probably arent even hitting the framerate cap very consistently meaning the input lag is constantly varying, and you have to compensate, usually at the worst possible moments
you look at the ground, suddenly your character is super responsive, you look at a crowd of enemies, suddenly your character is frozen/sluggish as shit
Grayson Phillips
let me guess, you always play games with blur on? even then idk how you don't notice the difference.
Nathaniel Fisher
And PC's current standard is 120fps.
Funny how console owners will not even be able to imagine that level of smoothness.
Jack Hughes
If you can't see a difference between 30 and 60 there's either something wrong with your eyesight or you somehow managed to find a 30hz monitor. If you can't FEEL a difference, I don't know what to tell you there. I don't consider 30 to be unplayable, but I would never willingly play at 30 if I had an option not to.
Cooper Baker
>And PC's current standard is 120fps. Delusional. Or doesn't know what a standard is
Hunter Thomas
Honestly this. I can't really tell the difference much either and it doesn't really affect Gameplay anyway so Idgaf.
Henry Jones
I'm waiting for someone to make the side by side argument.
Hunter Cruz
...
Ian Wright
It's really only driving, and shooting games where 60fps is truly necessary.
Even most action games and platformers seem to do fine with 30 fps. As long as the controls are still responsive, but that's another issue worthy of its own discussion.
Brandon Russell
I can see that 60 is not enough
Andrew Roberts
120 is the new 60fps on PC. Sorry to break it to you consolefag but you're left in the dust. 60fps at 4k or 120+fps at 1080p. This is reality.
Have fun watching Last of Us again though.
Jaxson Flores
>gif
You are like little baby
Hunter Diaz
...
Easton Hall
man im really jelly of you being able to play csgo and dota at 120 fps
Jordan Bailey
anything that really relies on reaction time should be 60fps
god damn i wish crash bandicoot was gonna be 60fps, id go buy a ps4 in a heartbeat
>cant even emulate the 20 year old version at higher than 30fps without speeding up the entire engine and fucking it up
20 YEARS GO BY AND THE REMASTER HAS THE SAME FRAMERATE FUCK ME WHY
crash bandicoot will be stuck in 30fps until the end of fucking time at this rate holy fuck
Daniel Myers
Because video games on console used to be 50-60fps depending if you used PAL or NTSC, and PC games could usually hit 70-85fps. Tying physics to a 30fps cap is literally the game industry going backwards. Yeah, a locked 30fps is better than an unstable 60fps, but don't make it impossible to ever go above 30fps.
Jordan Williams
When I upgraded to 144fps monitor and gfx it felt like I was in bullet time.
Cooper Gomez
>i'm retartet hoo boy
Luke Williams
>Literally doesn't know the definition of the word standard
Nathaniel Bennett
I only play at 120 fps.
William Roberts
is there a 100 + fps webm?
Thomas Myers
You've never even seen 120fps. You wouldn't even know what it is you'd be being jealous of.
Mason White
console games cant do 1080p 60fps unless it has some "dynamic resolution render" thing that bumps it down to half the resolution just to maintain framerate, so calm your fucking tits autismo
you cant even speed skyrim up past 60fps without speeding up the game engine cant you?
Nathan Campbell
Even if there were, if your monitor can't refresh at that speed it would be pointless.
Bentley Fisher
Most new AAA games will be CPU bottle-necked before you ever get that high. Look at any CPU gaming benchmark video, even with an i7 and a Titan X at 1080p you can only get around 100-120fps max. 120-144fps is outright impossible for the majority of current gen games.
Aaron Williams
NOW i'm jealous
Owen Young
>60fps at 4k or 120+fps at 1080p
Fucking small time fag, 8k at 120fps is the way to go. Hate to break it to YOU user, but you're in dire need of an upgrade.
Dylan Price
SAUCE?
Ethan Thomas
...
Eli Peterson
1. skyrim is one game 2. I was able to play it at 144fps constant but it fucks up the physics. It does not alter the game speed 3. skyrim special edition is 64-bit and does not have this issue
Jackson Hill
It's a nice thing to have, but it isn't mandatory except for fast-paced games
Brandon Myers
Funny how PC owners will still have games no one actually gives a shit about
Nathan Smith
What game?
Austin Bell
30fps is fine desu
Caleb Ross
When does it change from 60 to 30? I see the text changing but nothing else.
Parker Reed
brb buying a liquid nitrogen tank to cool my 90-way SLI titans
Liam Green
>unless you move the camera very slowly You must be literally retarded because you only notice low fps during fast movement simply because the distance moved between two frames becomes larger and thus you're more likely to notice that the information of the in-between is lost.
Ayden Morales
>30 vs 60 >implying that matters when you're 144hz master race
Adrian Clark
nice b8
Cameron Sullivan
Then you have vision issues and should not be allowed by to drive
Jordan Howard
see arkham knight and dead rising 3 came out with a 30fps cap
a less recent need for speed game was stuck at 30fps
120fps is overkill, the reduction in input latency is completely not noticable unless you use a mouse and keyboard and even then its not that significant, you'd be better off cranking up a good form AA to see better
you're just scaring people off from the master race with your autism
Eli Morales
UGH go away! I'm not OP but hardly anyone likes 60 FPS for film. Remember what Peter Jackson did with the Hobbit? I only heard people complaining about it. Never anyone who said >YAY 60 FPS Films need that "film look" people are used to so 24 FPS for motion pictures is fine because it's what we are used to. Everything else is way too fast, hectic and seems kinda cheap which is actually funny considering that 60 should be > 24. Anyways video games is different. It's not actual people and what not. So yeh 60 FPS, please.
Mason Anderson
Get your eyes checked
Austin Green
You may want to get your eyes looked at, user. Either way the best way to notice FPS is looking at the sides of your vision as the camera rotates in a first person shooter.
Zachary Lewis
I know you're joking but 8k requires two DisplayPort 1.3 connections, which no card currently has. Polaris and Pascal are DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 "ready," whatever that means, but they aren't functional yet, probably need a driver update.
Jonathan Parker
God I hate the way you type, but you're completely correct.
Pre-rendered video does not benefit from high framerates
Christopher Brown
digital 60fps porn is a thing though, especially in Japan. I don't watch it but I've seen it and I know it's something sought after out there.
Levi Wood
Do people like this actually exist? I mean I know a few people who can't even tell the difference between sour and bitter taste. Is that something like that?
Benjamin Edwards
Not bait, I'm being serious.
I have 20/20 vision, just renewed my driver's license in November and could read everything clear as day. I've been driving for 15 years with no issues.
Asher Russell
24fps is only the standard for film because of the film's phycal attributes. Any lower would look like a slideshow, see old silent movies, but any higher was beyond the capabilities at the time. 24 was a compromise. Now that films are mostly digital, there's no reason for 48 or 60fps to be the new standard.
Levi Edwards
30fps is literally eye cancer and unplayable. Why can't consolefags see the difference, are their eyes THAT fucked? It doesn't make sense as to why they can't see it, eyes work by changes of what they can see, and interpret that to the brain as motion. Unless you're blind drunk, you should EASILY be able to see the difference.
Caleb Watson
>I don't like high frame rates because it's *too* smooth and overkill for game performance
Noah Campbell
Friendly reminder that console children have no clue how is it like to play at 60 FPS, so they think console games at stable 30 FPS actually run at 60.
Jordan Parker
im starting to regret not buying a VR headset exclusively for porn when money was coming more easily to me
Landon Turner
>30fps is literally eye cancer and unplayable No one can ever have a decent discussion on Sup Forums because everyone is always using hyperbole.
Robert Ward
I have my eyes checked regularly. I have 20/20 vision.
I guess so, since I exist? I'm not saying there's no difference, I'm saying I don't see it.
Gabriel Green
it depends on the engine. for example souce engine sucks and everything under 200 feels like a microlagging crap at some games im fine with 30 fps
Benjamin Peterson
They almost say it with pride >HA I CAN'T TELL STUFF APART
Brandon Cook
no, 120 fps itself is overkill
as a guy who works in retail I've had many people tell me that even 48 fps movies and 144hz monitors are nauseating as shit
Easton Wood
no its not too smooth
i have a $1500 gaming PC but i play all the games on a 55 inch TV with a 360 controller anyway, im not even aware of 120hz TVs that dont force it in post processing or cost a stupid amount of money
i guess i dont take vidya that seriously, i just have more money than i know what to do with
Jeremiah White
>I've had many people tell me that even 48 fps movies and 144hz monitors are nauseating as shit
Blake Bennett
>movies Not fucking comparable fucktard
Gabriel Davis
shootmania
Anthony Ward
As good as 60 fps looks, for some reason, I get really nauseous while looking at 60 fps stuff. Ive played games mostly 30-15 fps most of my life so idk if that has something to do with it
Jayden Rogers
It's not pride, it's merely pointing out how silly you are to make a big deal out of something so trivial that half of people don't even notice.
You're like those audiophile sperglords who swear a FLAC file sounds TEN MILLION TIMES BETTER than a 320k mp3 file that SOUNDS LIKE SHIT.
Logan Brooks
>I can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps unless you move the camera very slowly.
Yeah, I can pretty much only tell when watching one of those side by side videos with a rolling ball or whatever that's designed specifically to show off the difference. It's a lot harder to notice when watching footage of video games, and when actually playing games I don't notice at all.
Cameron Murphy
Maybe your brain has a problem with movement. Or your computer is not playing the webm correctly. Because the difference is rather noticeable.
Ryan Powell
That's not stable 30fps, there are obvious moments of stutter, probably edited. Post source please.
Isaac Butler
>tfw this will prevent 4k 120fps project rate cameras
native 4k 60fps looks almost real, a native 4k 120fps would b insane
Nathaniel Moore
turn off motion blur you literal inbred
Henry Smith
>all these people insisting on educating retards of ways to improve their games
