Pillars of Eternity 2 - Deadfire

>Eothas, god of light and rebirth was thought dead, but he now inhabits the stone titan that sat buried under your keep, Caed Nua, for millennia. Ripping his way out of the ground, he destroys your stronghold and leaves you at the brink of death. To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers — answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos.”

>The campaign promises players the ability to travel by both land and sea, where they’ll encounter new cultures and environments. Non-player characters will keep their own schedule, which will lead to dynamic quests. Some old party members will even return.

Fig campaign in three hours.

Even though they don't have Avellone or Fenstermaker around anymore, I'll still back it, since Pillars of Eternity is my favorite modern RPG. Hope they have a neat trailer with gameplay footage for the campaign.

so they are doing like BG and just keeping everything the same except with a few new locations? holy shit these people love money

Are you ready for more boring, homogenized combat with enormous amount of pointless trash encounters?

I hope for more storybook-esque scripted shenanigans. Fucking love them.

>pointless trash encounters
Is that Obsidians's trademark

>stuck on Concelhaut in WM Part 1
Help

Hey at least in NV they gave exp.

My fuckin' nigga. They were fun as fuck.

I would back it but no way in fuck am I going through fig.

The first one bored the shit out of me, so as this one seems to be connected, it's a hard no.

when in doubt, chokepoint

also full team of arquebuses so you have an alpha that can kill at least one monster before they get to you

also chokepoints

Is it still going to be a high level campaign?

Dragons lair: Oozes and spiders

Ancient Elven ruins Spiders and Oozes

Bandit camp, Spiders and rats

copy paste 30 times. collect munies

Hey

something I hope comes back is the tyranny prologue CYOA style minigame

was actually dissapointed it wasn't used further into the game

>make a paladin to try path of the damned
>extremely high Con, good overall defenses
>have like 70 endurance at level 1
>the first black ooze in the starting dungeon does its spit attack at me
>crits, leaves me with exactly 1 endurance

kek, so much for high defenses and paladin

And I'd gladly fight them again if it meant being able to adventure with Eder.

>Combat in a ship
MUUUUUUH DIIIIIIIIIIIICK

They got my interest

The difficulty level were so fucking weird, everything included hard is piss easy but PotD is tedious as fuck

Aloth looks like an even bigger faggot now., unless that's someone else and not Aloth
The two new characters look cool.

the only tanking that exists on POTD is deflection tanking
that's one of the core problems with poe

Why do people use this
>Title N: subtitle
way of naming their products? It's dumb, and it's not even an expansion not that people release those nowadays anyway , but a separate game. This kind of stuff really gets to me.

I'm in

>scale armour
>leather pauldrons
>sabre
>centre-grip round shield
What were they thinking?

Pretty sure the game is gonna be entirely new locations, mate.

>tfw endgame Pallegina tank in White March with a shitton of DR and deflection
>try my luck against Ice Dragon in POTD
>a single swipe to her reduces half of her health instantly
>Breath one shots her

Hopefully they will improve on that in this one, but I didn't think it was that annoying in the first game desu. I had fun with the combat.

Agreed with all of you. I'm glad they started using more of that stuff in the expansion. I don't mind the lack of big animated sequences if they give you the CYOA stuff instead.

Since this game is gonna have a save-import function from the first game, you could easily use something similar to Tyranny's beginning to emulate your own save of the game.

badass warrior dude?

Well, okay. So back to level 1 with everyone.

Tell me that fucking bird is a companion instead of the pet of someone.

>Are you ready for more boring, homogenized combat with enormous amount of pointless trash encounters?

Sawyer might be autistic but he's not stupid, if you played the expansion you can see they started making more interesting fights and caring less about "balance". He even added some flavor based immunities even if they didn't make sense balance wise (well to him at least) like making flying enemies like dragons immune to ground based spells. That said I'm not sure I will back this one, PoE was fun but "omg Obsidian please make another" fun.

That story sounds really boring

psychic hyperintelligent parrot would be a fun companion

Considering the story is about us following a god inside a 200 meter tall statue, I think it's pretty safe to say we're going as high level as possible. They're gonna try to make this the Baldur's Gate 2 to Pillars of Eternity for sure.

>loved Eder, enjoyed Aloth
>both are back
I am stupidly glad they are back. I really got attached to them for some reason.

What's wrong with it? You have the main title, the number it's in and then a neat title that explains what's unique about this one. Maybe you could take away the number, but then it'd be a pain in the ass to remember which one is which by titles.

>PoE was fun but "omg Obsidian please make another" fun.
>if you played the expansion you can see they started making more interesting fights and caring less about "balance".

If they demonstrate that they're capable of admitting to and learning from their mistakes and they steadily improve the game, then there's worse horses to bet on.

I'm assuming that bird is the personal pet of the fishwoman with the rifle, who is a ranger.

I'm sure you know already, but in the unlikely chance you don't, they're both voiced by the same dude

I agree. So did the first game. I just really didn't care.

I honestly didn't but that explains some things. I honestly admired the VA work for both of them when it came to Eder's quest ending and Aloth reaction to the gods thing.

do I have to play the first game first or can I play this one?

yes I beleive I also had 18 res on that paladin

started over with a rogue anyway

again, I just hate how you're forced to create characters with weaknesses like that.

I found out on my paladin after going a bit further that I just couldnt kill the fire wisps things, even with a full party at level 3-4.
Only 2 or 3 of them are needed to kill your entire party by using their confusion ability.
You have high deflection and will ?
Oh, too bad you had to dump reflexes and are now extremely vulnerable to those attacks, like confusion, which will crit almost every time, making your party members kill each others.

I could have just avoided those enemies at the start, but something tells me that even with more levels some things are a major pain to deal with on potd.

also, more of the same paladin fighting solo the first Skuldr in the starting dungeon :
>make sure to have enough accuracy to kill him
>takes forever to bring him down to 1 hp ( or rather, 1 of those squares on the health bar )
>proceed to miss 5 times in a row while the Skuldr slowly grazes me for 1 or 2 damage and eventually kills me.

Yeah, I could have rested, I could have avoided the encounter and go in a straight line to exit the dungeon.
But still, its extremely frustrating to play, from the ungodly dice rolls for enemies to the unavoidable crippling weakness(es) your character is bound to have for 90% of the game.

I'm sure you can play the second one by itself if you want, but it's gonna have a save importer, so it's better if you play the first game and the expansion first. It's a pretty good game, so why not?

Skuldr aren't in the starting dungeon, I don't think. If you're talking about the temple of Eothas below the Gilded Vale, that's an area you're meant to come back to later.

I'd skip it, just read the storyline or watch videos. The gameplay itself was pretty tedious. It was just some of the characters and story that made it interesting.

>Skuldr aren't in the starting dungeon, I don't think
They are

I'm talking about the starting dungeon yes, there is 3 young Skuldr in there.

There are Skuldr in the starting dungeon, in one of the side rooms near the exit. Unless they nerfed that dungeon since release.

Its so boring. So terribly boring. Who wants more of this?

Why?

This. I have tried so many times to play through the first game. I just don't fucking care. The autists who made it cared more about the fantasy currency than the story and world

Me. The first game was good.

If you don't like crpgs then don't enter a thread about one.

Let me dream. I hate that non-human companions are so rare. What would I give for a Vithrack companion.

I liked BG and IWD

I enjoyed Pillars of Eternity more than BG 1 and both IWDs.

Its not. I played the entire thing from start to finish. The most boring rpg I have played.

Its this game. The universe and the characters. Oh look, another ingame-backer character that makes no sense...

If you want people to take you seriously, at least explain why you have a strong distaste for the game.

I will agree with you that the ingame-backer characters sucked. I'm hoping they don't come back for this one. I'm fine with the tombstones and even designing items and inns and shit, but no bullshit with characters that all look like oc donut steel guys and have their own wall of text backstory. They just ruin immersion.

I hate them so much as well but lets be serious, that will be a big selling point for higher pledges and people will take it. They want money and they will get it.

it's so long since I played it. I don't remember

It's so fucking bad, though. It seriously detracts from the game. I'm gonna be disappointed in them if they don't listen to the feedback and cut that shit out.

Again, gravestones, custom items, etc, all of that is fine, just don't have shitty gold NPCs.

>last thread
>if BG2 was released today Sup Forums would HATE IT

yeah no shit kid
I remember when mother 3 came out and everyone wrote it off because the first boss fight was too hard. Thread after thread of THE MECHADRAGO IS ANTIFUN!!! ;_______; SHIT GAME

>tfw there's a legendary crossbow that has an upgrade task that is killing three people with the golden names

That's cheeky as fuck and I love it. It's called the Twin Stingers.

>a sequel to a game where the best written character was removed due to sjw tears

shiggy diggy

>tfw too dumb to play these kind of games

>obsidian adds the option to remove those characters entirely from the game but only for non-backers release builds.

a man can dream

Yeah, man, they completely ruined the game when they altered one line of text in one of the backer gravestones I wasn't reading anyways.

Was hilarious to kill those who were too far away from the other NPCs and steal their shit.

I see people saying 'gold names NPC' but I dont see any actually gold name, only named NPC that all have a backstory you can read if you choose to approach, are they the same ?

maybe I'm not understanding 'gold names' right

Aye. They should have "Gold" names though. Not sure why that isnt displayed for you if that is the case, or they have simply just editted it out. Been a while since i last played.

>people complain about Gold name NPCs
>edit out the Gold name, leave the rest

Brilliant!

yes, cant check right now but I'm positive the names themselves are white color, not gold, they're just named with extremely tryhard stuff like Kaldir-of-the-Mountain, stuff like that.

Others npcs are named peasants, townfolks, things like that so my question was stupid but I wanted to make sure.

I didnt even know you could attack non-hostile npcs.

Try pressing tab. They should have some kind of gold plates to them. Or at least something that distinguishes them from the others.

Durance isnt returning in 2nd game
Just Eder, nigger cunt paladin and elven mage

I liked Aloth and Eder was okay.

>you must track down the wayward god and demand answers
Yet another boring mystery chase then?
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn

What kind of answers would you want to demand anyway?

>Yo dude, you thrashed my home, who is going to pay for the damage?

I wonder how the writers will handle Aloth.

Wasn't a big part of his companion quest deciding how the crazy fuck would come to terms with the ara ara onee-chan's soul that was inside his body and caused his personality to change into the hostile, confrontational woman when she thought he was being bullied too much? I seem to remember he only joined the Leaden Key because he thought Glorious Leader Thaos could fix his multiple souls disorder, or sumthin like that.

>Hey buddy I think you got the wrong door, the leather club is two blocks down

Yeah. I told him to get his fucking shit together and suppress that cunt, and he actually did it the absolute madman.

Cipher, Wizard or druid?

"tracking down" a 100-meter statue shouldn't be that hard to begin with

Paladin two-hander

Unless it jumped into the ocean. Oh yes, I already feel Obsidian is going all out with the story for this one.

You made me think that was a companion for a second. Too good to be true.

You'd be surprised. The world is a pretty huge place.

I have never played the game, are paladins good?

Also wasn't there some sort of jew paladins?

Maybe it uses a VPN?

Wizard is the most fun

Define good. They do their jobs as tanks and have pretty decent abilities, enabling an ally to ignore some CC for a time, and getting him back in the fight.

Paladins come in different flavors reflecting the traditions of their order. Among them there is one order that considers payments sacred. Being mercenaries is their religion. They get bonuses against mind affecting effects, among other things. Actually pretty decent and fluff-wise they explain why your character goes around doing random shit for people, even for a pitance. I suppose they are the jew paladins you're referring to, but really they're more honest capitalist paladins.

they're the worst class with Rangers

dont let the retards tell you how good it is once you're max level and have all the best items and can solo dragons

the journey to get there will be painful, paladins and ranger are the most 'vanilla' classes you can pick

the game itself is pretty boring because of uninteresting combat most of the time, picking paladin or ranger guarantees you wont go very far

Should I wait for sale or just get PoE on GoG?

or download it...illegally

you can get the steam version from cd key resellers for like 10 american dollars

Last time I did that I got a dud and no refund.

Meh, I disagree here. Paladins and clerics are the two classes with the most dialogue options (cypher being a close third I believe). So paladins do have some out of combat utility, on top of being a token roleplaying opportunity.

I'm not claiming it's the best class ever, but it's leagues and heaps above fucking rangers.

Pirate it, mate. Regardless of how you feel about pirating, it's a game that can get loading times that last up to 5-10 minutes. So at the very least don't give money for it until you know how well it runs on your machine. Keep in mind that loading times get increasingly longer the farther you are in the game, so if initial loading times last longer than a couple of seconds, chances are you will get those 5 minute abominations eventually.

Rangers got the shit buffed out of them, are you on drugs?
