So after many years, the 360 controller I use for PC gaming has given up (at a guess, I'd say the wire near the controller has frayed inside the insulation, so that unless you hold it in a really specific way, they're not connected).
Do you anons recommend getting another 360 one, or is the XBone controller enough of a step up that it justifies the slightly higher cost? I'm planning to just keep it wired either way, instead of buying a wireless dongle).
if you can't fix it with e-tape just grab another 360 controller for like 25 bucks and wait for a ds4 or bone controller to go on sale.
Ryan Baker
Xbone controller is like having hand sex dude it can make the worst shit a pleasure to play.
Kayden Myers
If my 360 controller broke I'd just get another one since the previous has lasted for nearly a decade now.
Connor Brooks
I mean I prefer it over the 360 pad, its such a better controller and just feels great. There are a bunch of retards that hold it wrong and bitch about the bumpers being bad since you use the triggers and bumpers with the same fingers now and kinda rock the bumper, but apparently on newer controllers it the bumpers feel better now even if you press them. The sticks are also a lot better and so is the dpad. Still using my xbone launch controllers and they all work perfectly also they use Micro USB cables so you just have to replace the cable not the controller or do a wire repair.
Christopher Williams
I would fix it if I could, but it isn't an external fault. The copper wiring has frayed inside the insulation, which would require me to scrape it away. Frankly, I don't give enough of a shit to spend all that time trying to fix it.
I'd be willing to pay the extra for the Xbone controller if the improvements are worth it. Hell, just going from wired to wireless would be nice.
Alexander Green
Don't get any of the controllers in your OP pick, make sure you get the NEW, current Xbox Wireless controller.
This one' the one you want. Perfected bumpers, streamlined round top, nice rear texture, and battery-free wired USB, Bluetooth, and Xbox Wireless connectivity.
Seriously, get one. And make sure it is Dawn Shadow if you can find one.
Brody Reed
Did people use 360 controllers with a finger on the bumper, and the other one the trigger? For as long as I've had the 360 controller, I've only used my index finger for the triggers and bumbers. So would that mean I'd only see the Xbone controller as an improvement?
Christopher Cook
So how will I know the difference between the Xbone controller in my OP image, and the one you recommended? Does it have a different name or something?
William Gomez
i have both and they're both GOAT tier controllers. it just depends on preference really. the xbox one controller has analog sticks which move much more freely compared to the 360 controller where the sticks are stiffer. some people like the stiffer 360 sticks.
also the d-pad is much better on the xbox one controller. the xbox one controller comes with a headphone jack which can be useful if you ever do couch gaming where you're far away from your pc. you can plug in any headset and listen to the game sound and/or use the headphone mic via the xbox one controller. there is also bluetooth support on the most recent version of the x1 controller. this all comes at an extra cost though so if you don't think you need any of these newer features then the 360 controller is probably your best option since it's quite a bit cheaper.
Nathaniel Mitchell
One in OP has that clearly visible sharp plastic price on the top, comes in a green box, and is called Xbox One Wireless Controller...
Carson Rivera
if you have the money get a xbone controller it's good, the ps4 controller is also good but I hate the thumbsticks
David Gray
newest ones are the revision models that came out with bone S model. iirc they're the only ones with bluetooth and currently run around $50-ish.
Easton Parker
nothing beats 360 controller i was always more of a sonyfag but i have to admit that 360 had better contoller in fact i very firmly believe that 360 controller is one of the best-if not the BEST controller in the entire history of gaming microsoft almost came to complete perfection with it imo
Charles Nguyen
And what is the one you recommended called?
Jose Perez
I mean on the one you can use both the trigger and bumpers with one finger each without moving them back and forth. Lotta retards try and press the bone bumpers from the top instead of from the sides.
Colton Reed
Thinking of retiring my Logitech Cordlesss Rumblepad 2 because there's no bumpers to it, it will be either XBone or 360 controller. Monitoring this thread.
Christian Wright
The one you want comes in a white box, is visibly different with the streamlines top and no separate plastic piece and is simply called Xbox Wireless Controller.
Colton Murphy
Right, I see what you mean. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I do that.
Angel Powell
Xbone controller, to me, is just an objective improvement over the 360 one.
The D-pad is much, much better, the sticks feel tighter and have a nicer texture, and has better ergonomics. So i'd go with it
Brody Flores
I assume you could just look for the Bluetooth logo on the packaging?
Unfortunately I'm an Ausfag, so I'm stuck shilling out more money for it through Ebay. I know you can customize them for yourself, does anyone know if the free shipping applies to Australia?
Hudson Bennett
Bump up to the xbone, you can connect to the PC with just the charger cable and the D-pad is a million times better.
Thomas Clark
Don't buy wireless.
You're just contributing more needless signal pollution.
Wired is cheaper and more reliable.
Angel Richardson
Yeah that's the one.
Jose Johnson
Yep, that will do.
Aaron Cox
While we're all here, what is Sup Forums's opinion on on the elite controller? Is it a big step up from the S controller, or is the extra cost not worth it?
wtf there are people who think the bone controller is better than the 360's?
Elijah Hall
They don't make Xbone controllers in wire or wireless versions anymore. They're all wireless, but you can use a USB cable if you prefer that or need to charge it.
William Jenkins
I swear by mine, but only use it occasionally. It doesn't have Bluetooth, but everything on it is solid. The paddles are great, but the killer feature is the circular gate.
It's like some teflon/ceramic shit, and combined with the metal shaft of the stock means absolutely PERFECT circles.
In other words, with the hair trigger locks enabled on triggers, this is THE definitive NiGHTS into Dreams... controller.
Also, why are posts taking so long to post?
Adrian Johnson
Don't get an xbone controller. If you're going to get a new controller get the dualshock 4 and install DS4Windows. It runs clean and the dpad is superior. I bought an xbone controller and the dpad started malfunctioning a few months in, the 360 controller is solid but has a shit dpad (which we all know). I exclusively use the Dualshock 4 for my PC now. It helps that I had a ps4 already so I just plugged it in, but as one user to another, drop the xbox shit unless you want to get another 360 controller because it will last and it's a good pc controller, just with a shit dpad.
Carter Lee
I don't know about anyone else, but I've had two Xbone controllers and both of them have had the d-pad fuck up on me. It has this issue where it randomly activates twice on a single press. I had both for less than a year as well and found only a few other people online suffered the same problem. So can't really recommend using a Xbone controller.
Logan Brown

I don't know about anyone else here, but I've had two Xbone controllers where the d-pad starts messing up after less than a years use. It starts double pressing on its own in a single direction. I'll mention mine is the one that upgraded to the 3.5mm headphone jack, but lacks bluetooth. So I don't know if the bluetooth one fixed the issue.
Adrian Lewis
hivemind, both of us had shit xbone contoller experiences. it really sucks desu I think the xbone controller is hella comfortable for my big hands.
also Sup Forums posting is fucked right now, i'm the guy from my post got duplicated too
Connor Morgan
How much heavier are elite controllers compared to the standard ones out of interest?
Nathaniel Brooks
>Also, why are posts taking so long to post?
double post
double post
Yep. the site is running like shit.
Gavin Barnes
I shelled out for one about 6 months ago, replaced my standard xbone controller - the improvement is immense. The price is steep but it is by far the best controller I have ever used. Feels like quality, its pretty heavy which is nice and the swappable sticks are great. It also comes with a sexy hard case which is a bit of a treat. 10/10 I highly recommend it.
Quite a lot heavier, its damn nice if you're into that kind of thing.
Christopher Lee
i have tried the 360, one and ds4.
360 is best because it is 30 units of currency, integrates with 99% of games and buttons/sticks wear out very slowly, but it has bad d-pad.
one is worst because it feels very wrong to hold in hand, the LB, RB buttons almost don't move at all and make VERY loud clicky noise. price is also 50 units of currency, 360 is better.
ds4 is good but different, it has the playstation layout of sticks if you like that. Triggers are good and so are the buttons. Sticks will wear out pretty fast, needs stick caps. It also has a touchpad with which you can assign macros, for example jump attack in dark souls. It is also the costiest, 60 units of currency. Software support is so-so.
by units of currency I mean to show the relative price difference between the controllers
Best bet is to get another 360 controller but if you want to try something new, get the ds4.
Gavin Cooper
>one is worst because it feels very wrong to hold in hand, the LB, RB buttons almost don't move at all and make VERY loud clicky noise.
this has been fixed years ago.
Austin Young
bought it 5 months ago
Joseph Edwards
I'm really really tempted to get the elite. But it's a lot of money, and on top of that I'd also need to pay for the dongle. But then again, it is probably worthwhile when you take into account how much I'd use it. I honestly don't know, though right now it's a choice between the S or the elite. The problem with the S that since I'm in Aus, I'd be forced to get the white one, which I don't really like.
Jace Garcia
>AU $81.98 + AU $22.69 shipping That's a bad deal, JB Hifi are selling them for AU $99 and you wouldn't have to wait for postage.
Aaron Brooks
i also have 2 xbox controllers and they're both gen 1's from back in 2013/14 and i haven't had an issue with them to date even though i treat them like shit.
you probably got a controller from a faulty batch or something. i had the same problem when i ordered 4 wii u controllers of amazon ages ago. bad batches are actually a think in this day and age even though we have computers which should make quality assurance a thing. goddamn jews
Joseph Jenkins
mean wii* not wii u. fuck the wii u.
Ryder Parker
then you stupidly bought a gen 1 controller which hasn't been in production for years. you got jewed.
Samuel Morgan
I don't think they differentiate in my country. Also, if you mean this:
This is disingenuous since they person used the American Ebay to search for the controller. You can get it for $80 from the Australian Ebay, but you don't need to pay for the shipping.
Jordan Edwards
>worked for many years before breaking down >should I buy it again or something that costs more Holy shit user, just read what you wrote? If you really want a boner controller maybe try one out for yourself first.
Nathan Cooper
I have a question guys, does the 3.5mm jack on the new xbox one controllers also work on PC?
Noah White
It's so worth it man. I'm in Nz, it cost me $249 for the controller and dongle. I'm not a rich man by any means but it was a damn good investment. It's such a treat every time i bust it out and use it. Go on m8, treat yourself.
Landon Flores
Do you think MS will keep producing the 360 controller or should we start hording them? I don't like the one controller.
Michael Howard
A lot of people complain about the d-pad on the 360 controller but in about 10 years of PC gaming I haven't played a single game where the d-pad was relevant. I guess if you are emulating older games it's useful?
Zachary Rogers
>I don't think they differentiate in my country.
then you should have checked properly to see which generation of controller you were buying. the amazon listing for the xbox one controller here where i am in europe has automatically updated to only selling the new controllers with the new bumpers.
also i just tested the sound difference between the xbox one and 360 controller and the 360 controller is way louder so i don't know what point you're trying to make.
yes. the controller comes up as a speaker and microphone in windows so you can listen to game sound and use the mic on your headset via the controller.
Ryan Anderson
>mfw 360 controller wire is fucked after all these years
Samuel Baker
I prefer the 360 to the x1. Your pic makes it really clear why too. The bone controller is far more angled, I never find the shoulder buttons quite as comfortable to rest on with it because of that.
Still, nothing beats the DS2 for me. Thing rests in my average to longish fingers perfectly.
Liam Perez
I played DMC and Dark Souls and item/stance switching I often messed up causing me to hit the wrong side.
Isaac Myers
I think it's mostly bad for fighting games, so I also never cared that much about it.
Justin Ward
>you probably got a controller from a faulty batch or something I'm not sure. The first controller and second controller I bought were almost a year apart from each other. I bought the first one from GameStop, took it to the store where they replaced it like 11 months later, then the replacement started acting up about 6 months later.
Justin Campbell
I bought the 360 controller years ago, before the one even existed. Things get better over time user, it's called progress.
Nolan Johnson
what can i use on ps4/pc that isnt a ds4? i played with one night and got really sore hands after 5hours
Samuel Gomez
Yeah, fuck it. Starting a new job soon, might as well make it a gift for myself. As I always say, you shouldn't buy the most expensive of everything, but if you're going to use something nearly every day, why wouldn't you spend a little extra and get the best?
Kayden Wilson
I was not avare there were generations for controllers. Doesn't change the fact that one controller was very uncomfortable to hold in hand and is more expensive.
My 360 doesn't make much noise, maybe due to repeated use. From the video, it didn't seem like the new one controller was much less louder. Quess I will have to compare again sometime but I don't think I will be buying another one controller to check that.
Nathaniel Anderson
This isn't a case of it. Stick to what you had.
Sebastian Richardson
You wont regret it my dude. I'm off to bed now, I can sleep well knowing I've changed an anons life! Any of you that play on xbone or PC owe it to yourselves to get one. Microsoft should be paying me for all this shilling haha goodnight Sup Forumstards
Luke Williams
Yep, it's a massive pain in the ass. It's because of how I rested it against my legs. The cable is bent at a near 90 degree angle right at the base of where it connects to the controller. If I don't rest it just right, it disconnects, which becomes a pain in the ass when every time you shift in your seat, it's no longer resting just right.
Parker Green
>another 360 one, or is the XBone controller XB1 -- it's the one GOOD thing (((next gen))) has spawned
Zachary Hill
>Doesn't change the fact that one controller was very uncomfortable to hold in hand
you must have leprosy hands to feel like this. it has the same feeling as the 360 controller but slightly more comfortable due to the angled triggers. i guess you must think the 360 controller was very uncomfortable to hold too.
Levi Barnes
actually no, the 360 is very comfortable. For the one, the lb/rb buttons part just doesn't sit right with me
