ENB only ever made souls content because he felt there was an unfilled niche for it, after "soulslore" people like vaati got big he slowly stopped making videos because he didn't need to anymore.

Then Dark Souls 2 happened and he was invited to be behind the scenes as the game was made. Obviously as a longtime fan he jumped at this opportunity but it only exposed him to bamco's jewery first hand and if you go back and watch his Dark souls 2 Lets Play (which was his attempt to branch out his content) you can see that it's eating at him to have to try and pretend to enjoy such a shitfest.

Then he did the same with Bloodborne and while Bloodborne was a fantastic game and he really enjoyed it and working with From and Sony for the guide it hit unfortunately close to home for him. See, BB and BB lore (ENB's department in the guide) is focused a lot on the idea of miscarriage and losing children and so on and IRL ENB's wife had just a miscarriage. These two back to back gut punches ruined him as a youtuber and sucked a lot of his energy to make high quality content.

Then someone taught him how to use twitch which meant

a) it needed less effort for the same work
b) it paid better which lets him support his waifu and daughteru better
