Games with a red-herring love interest

This is something common in movies and tv shows, and that I find very interesting, but not not a lot of games do.

What games introduce a character early as an obvious love interest, and then drop him/her after a while or by the end of the first act in favor of someone else?

Pic related is a good example. Yukari is set up as the main generic love interest until Aigis joins, and takes the role to a more interesting direction (since you rarely see romances with robots).

Bully

Also FFVII has a variation of this, since Aerith is set up as a possible love interest before she gets a sword shoved into her.

Xenoblade Chronicles
Kinda

Then, at a certain point of the game, you realize that not

There is no canon or main romance in Persona 3, retard. Mitsuru even hints at a romance completion in Arena.

It's very likely that all social links are canon.

Lufia II

I'm not talking about the "might or not be canon" shit like Social Links. Looking at the plot structure, Yukari is clearly set up as the generic VN love interest "main route", with stuff like riding on trains, the night at the beach, the love hotel scene, etc. She then gets dropped from that role after Aigis joins.

No, she still has a fair amount of scenes with the MC, it just turns out Aigis also has more importance with MC's actual past. You can easily be romancing Yukari and not Aigis at all, especially considering Aigis didn't even have a social link in vanilla P3.

It has nothing to do with plot structure, the main story of P3 is not about romance, it's about the MC's choice to sacrifice himself.

>No, she still has a fair amount of scenes with the MC, it just turns out Aigis also has more importance with MC's actual past.

MC gets scenes with everyone. The pretense of Yukari being the generic main route is dropped. That's the point, because...

>The main story of P3 is not about romance

The game sets itself up as a generic VN/dungeon hybrid at first. Aigis then assumes the role of the "main heroine" when the game reveals what it's actually about. It being a romantic relationship or not is irrelevant.

>It has nothing to do with plot structure

It has everything to do with that. P3 is actually really smart in how it eases you into it's themes.

Buddy, you said Yukari was a red herring love interest. I'm saying you're bullshitting, the game never indicated Yukari was somehow the main route romance because you can't even romance her until max Charm. The doesn't support your claims.

>The game sets itself up as a generic VN/dungeon hybrid at first
No, it really doesn't. If you think it goes out of its way to do that then subvert some trope you're seeing things that aren't there.

Tales of xillia

>He actually romanced the emotionless sexbot
Damn nigga that's pretty pathetic

Err, how is the fact that you can't romance her until max charm proof that the game never indicated Yukari was somehow the main route romance?

That is basic plot structure, a romance develops and then it happens around the climax

Danganronpa had the funniest one by far

It feels like The Answer was conceived with Yukari as the canon love interest though.

No, it was conceived with Yukari as the one reacting more heavily to MC's death considering her past. They simply didn't mention any other romance s link.

>No teaching her how to be a human before falling in love with her.

Are you a fagget?

Answer is about her being jealous of Aigis and being pissed off at not spending more time with the MC.

Danganronpa V3

Every main DG game actually.

1 has the pop idol and 2 has Mikan.

I think V3 does it the best. Sayaka you can honestly expect with how much they push her and Mikan isn't even pushed as the main love interest. She has literally 2 scenes where she sleeps on Hajime, and that's played for comedy. The true version is Chiaki

>teaching a toaster anything

Aigis is nothing more than a machine gun with anime face drawn on it. It has no feelings and no capability to feel. Aigis is just a weapon, nothing more.

TAKE THAT BACK

Sorry that truth hurts. But hey, if you enjoyed Aigis, I welcome you to visit /k/

Plenty of equally hot objects in there.

>I think V3 does it the best
Both 1 and V3 were good, when in the former your waifu tries to frame you for murder and in the latter you're used to frame your waifu for murder

But 2-5 still hurts. Fucking water grenades man.

Doesn't the first SMT do that?

She has feeling and is not just a weapon stop bullying the toaster.

The way I see V3 it's -YOU- are the false love interest, since you play as Kaede and then die off.

I think the most painful cases IMO are 1-2, 2-5 and probably 3-1, although 3-4 is a kick in the nuts too.

>winter of rebirth doesn't end with mc closing his eyes

into the trash it goes

...

Aigis' battle quotes were better before she learned emotions.

Also Aigis is a stupid name and is clearly meant to be Aegis, which she literally has printed on her in the animated cutscenes.

HOW can a machine have feelings? I can program my computer to say 'I love you' to me every morning, doesn't mean it feels anything.

Same with Aigis, it was just saying stuff without understanding or feeling them because it simply couldn't understand or feel them. It is a machine. The fact it looks like human doesn't make it magically have feelings.

Nigga, did you pay any attention to the game? She can feel because she has a plume of dusk in her that allows her to both manifest a persona /and/ feel.

Having adaptive AI combined with being modeled after the human brain does things to a toaster.

I'd love to have an Aigis fridge myself. Someone to say "I love you" every time I grab a beer

did you pay any attention to what was going on in that game

>Nigga, did you pay any attention to the game?

I haven't played it, I just read the wiki entry on it.

well there's a valuable lesson here in how to not be a retard

>arguing about something you've only read of

is this the most Sup Forums thing ever

user, she has feelings. This issue is adressed in the game.

>to a more interesting direction
Kill yourself. Aigis is as bad as Marie.
Every time she's onscreen the game becomes about her, and the answer only makes things worse.

Let me tell you something so we can end your little dumb argument for good.

She has a persona, which means she can feel. Only living beings are able to have a persona, even if she was artificially induced to have one.

Fuck off.

I'd argue that it's not false in that they do feel strongly for each other and it's not like you move onto another girl afterwards

3-5 was a massive boot to the groin too, mostly due to Maki's feelings towards space-boy and his feelings towards her. Whether Kaito being the Ultimate Bro about everything makes it easier to accept his fate than Gonta's more naive nature is a matter of opinion.

What exactly is a red herring love interest.

The dog has a persona, but that doesn't mean I'm romance it.
One is an animal and the other is an object.

Let ME tell you something

baited ;^)

t. assblasted waifufag.

Persona would be a much better written series if all the waifufaggotry was cut and the games had actual main love interests. Aigis isn't the problems. All of the waifus who don't affect the story in any way and are only there to give virgins something to fap to, are.

I feel it's false in that Saihara and Ouma, while not becoming an official thing or anything, gets hinted at somewhat.
Can we just agree pretty much every case in V3 is a boot to the groin in some sense, even the final chapter due to how much it fucking sucks

>Gsame sets up someone as the obvious love interest.
>Turns out she isn't.

Animals can feel.

Animals have feelings user. Aigis has human features and has feelings. She also presumably has some holes where you can stick your penis, thus, she's romanceable.

>have a mostly average city
>wait, there's a super advanced robot
>and she was built 10 fucking years ago
>I know! Let's turn it into a waifu in FES
Aigis is everything that's wrong with p3

Hundreds of millions of years of evolution can program a protein-based analog computer to say "I love you" to you every morning, doesn't mean it feels anything. We are the robots, user

You know how Final Fantasy 7 set you up to think that Aerith is going to be Cloud's waifu, but she dies and he gets with Tifa?

Pretty much like that.

>The dog has a persona, but that doesn't mean I'm romance it.
Suit yourself.

>She also presumably has some holes where you can stick your penis

So do animals, doesn't mean I can date a horse.

Your father did when he married your mom.

btfo

zoophilia is legal in some states

I guess you would know. You were there to clean her cunt after he was done.

>Saihara and Ouma
Seems more like shipping fodder for fangirls. I'd argue Saihara and Kaito were far closer, even if they didn't have a romantic thing going. Just a bromance

Don't remind me. I lost a bunch of perfectly good snow shovels that day.

:0

Wait, what?

I don't even know what game this thread is about, but there is NOTHING wrong with loving guns, you fucking HIPPIE COMMUNIST FUCK.

...

this cover art is so bizarre. It's missing key story characters but includes the minor social link characters

Mitsuru and Akihiko confirmed for bad guys.

...

how do i get into the persona series, on which order should I play them, without excluding SMT?

This would be easier if this board had sound.

3 to 4 to 5. Play the FES version of 3 and the Golden version of 4 (If you can, vanilla 4's fine)

Start with 3, go onto 4. If you like them then wait til 5 or see how you get on with the older ones.

3 comes in 3 flavors:
Regular, on PS2
FES: The PS2 version which is the version that comes with 'The Answer': a follow up to the events of 3.
P3P: The PSP version which changes a few things, like being able to control your team-mates, non-battle segments are more streamlined and VN-like and the option of a female main character. No Answer though.

4 has the regular version on PS2 and Golden on Vita, which has an added character whose influence may or may not want you to tear your hair out due to her general obnoxiousness.

Start with 3, which you can get in two ways

>P3 FES on the PS2
Which is the original game, plus a couple of extra personas and more screen time for Aigis, and an epilogue where you play as her

>Persona 3 Portable on the PSP
Which lets you control your party members and lets you play as a girl, but lacks the epilogue and most of the game is now done in a traditional Visual Novel style.

Then you can play P4 either on the PS2 or PSVita. The Vita version has much more content, extra costumes, an extra character and dungeon, an extra ending and a new epilogue, but the PS2 version is fine if you don't have a Vita.

I know that P2 is the best Persona but how is P1?

How do I get the severe wind skill (the one that Norn has) onto messiah?

I found a guide but it was for the portable version (playing FES) and it called for fusing a demon that was only in portable, some kind of cat samurai.

I'd like to get at least two severe skills on him, already have ragnarok ready to be fused into him.

1st person dungeon crawling which makes it more similar to SMT than others. Play the PSP remake because the Playstation version is hilariously butchered in its localisation.

P2 isn't the best anymore.

But it is. P5 is decent, but its story and characters are bland as fuck.

P2 only has an interesting story. The characters aren't as great as P2fag want you to believe and combat is trash.

>Not wanting this

You gay?

I want to get the first two I only played 3 and 4. Are they both worth it?

It'd feel like ramming your dick against a wall.

>Butchered
>Not enhanced

I never played 2, did Jude get cuckolded in the sequel?

>The characters aren't as great as P2fag want you to believe
Yes, they are. Both IS and EP have great casts with literally no weak link. There is no bad member of either game. Not even counting the interesting villains and incredibly in depth and colorful side characters. The combat is piss easy in IS and encounter rates are too high in both, but the combat isn't terrible in EP at all.

P5 has great combat but an utterly idiotic story and a weaker main party compared to P2, bar none. I'd say only half of the main cast of Persona 5 is interesting in any way.

Jude gets the girl, kind of. Ludger gets cucked by the universe.

Definitely. Don't expect them to be the greatest games ever though.
P2P has some extra content, but playing the PSX version would allow you to use the much needed turbo/frameskip function.

No. Alternate Milla liked Ludger, but she was completely different from main universe Milla and died anyways. She was loyal to Jude throughout the entire game.

That's P2, P1 had a chunk of the game removed for no reason and one of your classmates is now black for reasons never explained

Na she has a built-in fleshlight

This so much. I can't think of another love interest who is a red herring because she actively tries to sacrifice you for her own betterment. Actually surprised me when I was playing.

Alternate universe versio of Milla pops up, Jude acts as an asshole to her, she gets killed, real Milla pops up and they have their little star crossed lovers storyline play out.

Yes, P2 has, bar none, the greatest story and cast of the series. P1 is good enough and mostly enjoyable.

Both have meh gameplay.

How do things like this happen?

Why people are getting paid for that?

Do you really think she didn't get an artficial vagoo to please her man?

Yukari a shit.
Mitsuru is best girl, once you marry into her family Aigis becomes your property too.

Atlus USA was small and didn't think a hardcore dungeon crawler would do well if it didn't get Americanized like the anime of the time.

It was acceptable in the nineties

Might as well get a fleshlight and ditch the stupid robot then.

What a shame

If the affinity scenes were canon, he could have stole Leia from Jude
