How come Pokémon fans are able to enjoy romhacks but at the same time despise clones? Is it because with the later they feel they are being disloyal to Gamefreak/Nintendo?

what clones are there even of pokemon?

Because romhacks still have the base mechanics, and clones have shit gameplay and no depth

There's a bunch of them on mobile. The one in OP is Evocreo, which is probably the closest one.

>pokémon
>depth

They are games designed so that 5 year olds without any dexterity can beat them without thinking much.

This.

>Depth = Difficulty
If you don't know what you're talking about do some research first.

Pokemen has depth, using fire on grass isn't going mean the other guy isn't gonna beat you his turn.
Especially other people who can be smarter than you

The main game is stupid easy.

Complexity: magnitude to quantify the number of decisions a player must take.
Depth: magnitude to quantify the number of options the player has.

The more depth with the less complexity the better (go > chess).

That being said, if the game is completely unchallenging depth has no meaning, as the options are irrelevant to complete the objective.

Touhou puppet games that are barely or not at all related to Pokemon, but still have similar mechanics, are pretty enjoyable. Meanwhile, a lot of clones I tried in the GBA era were terrible, from Digimon to stuff like Shaman King RPGs.

None really, save for 3 of the Digimon games. Most other monster raising games are focused on raising, breeding and discarding/letting old ones die, more a pet sim mixed with SMT than Pokemon.

The depth exists primarily for competitive play, which is only enjoyed by those of us unfortunate enough to have never made love to a woman :/

I like both romhacks and clones. EvoCreo was fucking dope! Too bad it was rushed toward the end and it shows. Still one of the best games I've played lately.

Anyone played Spectrobes? It's a top tier Pokeclone

Are you making a lot of money off of this game, OP? I hope it's becoming a big hit for you

I can't play this anymore because it's too "kiddie" but even when I could, I can't see the fun in competitive. it just turns into a switch-fest. someone enlighten me?

Play doubles.

Seconding this, doubles is patrician's PvP mode.

Not him but doubles isn't exactly perfect either.

Remember GENIES/TAPUS OF HEALTHY META are a thing though it's not too bad right now

Pokemon are long since fucked in terms of balance anyway.

Sure there are still Pokemon that are better than others in Doubles but it also makes a lot of Pokemon viable, has more combo options and gets rid of the switch-fest that is singles.

To be honest, creating romracks is a betreyal to nintendo in first place.
Clones is way better since at least they create the world itself from scratch, without using nintendo/gamefreak image propriety.

Be yandere to pokemon.
Create an clone better than pokemon to defeat pokemon franchise.
Show the love for pokemon by killing pokemon.

It makes some pokemon viable and also drops some into the pits of doubles NU, and every pokemon in doubles only has three move slots.

It's different, but hardly superior to singles.

>To be honest, creating romracks is a betreyal to nintendo in first place.
As if anyone ever gave an oath.

>Create an clone better than pokemon to defeat pokemon franchise.
Impossibru due to many reasons.

Sonic is a clone of mario.
It just used an completely different character and improved a lot the gameplay and the graphics.
It could not defeat but at least could become a rival.

I am curious that for all the monster raising games that came out trying to capture Pokemon's success, none of them have really tried to emulate the focus on PvP strategy which is why I keep coming back to the franchise in the first place.

Pokemon metagame is FAR from perfect, but it's the only franchise I can think of where you strategize, create a specialized party, and then have turn based combat with other players.

>improved a lot the gameplay

Sonic is fundamentally different to Mario though. Classic Mario level design is a slow and steady obstacle course with secrets hidden here and there and generally you only have 1 way of accomplishing level. The emphasis is on the fact of completion. Sonic's level design is tailored to running through everything as fast as possible with numerous different paths and routes in a single level. The emphasis is on the ability to complete level as fast as possible. These 2 franchises though are platformers both but have fundamentally different gameplay.

but pokemon it self is a clone/rip off digimon/persona

i remember people saying how persona is a rip off pokemon lol

>turn order in a game where battles are usually 1v1

Megami tensei. Persona is quite different.
Persona is Jojo, not pokemon.

I would consider the mobile platform to be a different beast when it comes to games, although that specific game doesn't look bad so long as it is a one time purchase without micro-transactions.

Personally I do not enjoy mobile games as they break the fundamental rule of not touching a screen which leaves smudges, and they don't have proper buttons to press which makes playing on them uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, "touching the screen" will be a standard for every single handheld games since smartphone will never accept physical buttons as standard.

i got beat up in school cos i said persona is not a copy of pokemon and persona came out before pokemon

fuck i hate it when normies started playing games

I dunno about persona but megami tensei was released at japanese NES when gameboy didn't existed at first place.

and so it should be, since the majority of the smartphone market doesn't care for physical buttons

I just hope that the handheld consoles of the future ignore this, if there will even be any more handhelds in the future.

This will be the dark age of portable games, my friend.
The age where you can play games on to go only by emulators on bootleg chinese android device.

Please give me names for free mobiles games similar to pokemon
