How did they manage to fuck it up this much?

How did they manage to fuck it up this much?
All they had to do was improve on human revolution and it would have been a pretty good game

They did

The people making the actual game itself did a great job, but the writers and squenix fucked it up. The side quests were well written but the main storg was a mess and some executive's obviously came in and cut up all the developers work so they could sell it as DLC

Its sad but thats the state of the AAA gaming industry

It's literally HR 1.5.
you're just a nostalgic GenZ moron if you throught the "original" was any better than this. Fucking overrated garbage, all of it.

They improved on almost every aspect of HR, the game is just a 50% of what it should've been. They probably had to restart the project a few times because there's no way this is all they could come up with in 5 years

The plot and characters are generic and unappealing.
This cunt is probably to be blamed

>How did they manage to fuck it up this much?

Because they made a whole game and then they chopped it into three pieces, of which MD was the first part.

Side missions were above averagely written for the most part, the main mission was just... dull.

No Malik, no buy

>how to easily spot that I haven't played the game

I remember DEHR launch, we had like a dozen threads every day for the next month.

I've seen maybe three MD threads in total here.

Game sold like shit desu, im honestly surprised by how people refused to give in into SE's bullshit with the pre-order/dlc/microtransactions shenanigans

>you're just a nostalgic GenZ moron if you throught the "original" was any better than this

HR had a complete story arc, multiple villains and boss fights, interesting augs, a wide variety of randomized takedown animations, interesting characters, and it didn't fucking end just as the interesting plot threads were introduced like total sequel/dlc bait.

Can't say any of that is true for Mankind Divided. The game just wasn't finished. It felt like a game that abruptly ended after the first boss.

>All they had to do was improve on human revolution

But that's exactly what they did and one of the game's biggest downfalls, it's essentially just a retread of human revolution with some new stuff

Yeah all that shit was really offputting for me. I did end up buying the game/season pass, but only when I saw it for nearly half off around christmas.

>muh story
>muh characters
God I wish you faggots would start watching movies or reading books instead of playing videogames. You're the reason shit like Uncharted 4 gets praised to hell and back and companies can't be bothered with gameplay and level design anymore.

the novelty of HR wore off, I was tired of takedowns and how cinematic the game has to be about 5 minutes in

Do whatever you want with Deus Ex Square Enix, this shit is dead anyway. I don't consider those new games canon because they're so retarded

Even Elon Musk thinks the original Deus Ex was a masterpiece

They didn't. You just expected too much..

>muh story
>muh characters

Yeah retard, these things are pretty fucking important in an RPG. Along with a sense of progression and closure at the end. MD was lacking in all of these areas. Also boss fights. They may not have been the greatest in HR but at least they were there to give that epic feel every good RPG needs at some point. There is one "boss" at the very end of MD and it's just a copy of the first boss from HR. Game could have been great if it were finished and not sp[lit into parts by jews.

>boss fights
I'm glad MD didn't have any except for Marchenko who's defeat was meant to bring the game to a close anyway. Human Revolution had terrible bosses.

Gameplay was a good step forward in MD, but they went retarded on main story and areas. The main story doesn't have notable highlights and a sequelbait ending, leaving you with an underwhelmed feeling. Doing just one major story hub also sets you up for disappointment. Various smaller hubs with changing setting are more exciting and made the previous parts seem like grand international adventures. Add in a marketing campaign from hell, the superfluous breach mode, cash grab dlc schemes and a shitty season pass to the aforementioned drawbacks and MD became a "I'll wait for a sale" kind of title in peoples' minds.

So the next game is in Obsidian's hands now? They were going to make Mankind Divided instead of Eidos Montreal.

>meant to bring the game to a close anyway

They why did they introduce multiple new plot threads including teasing us with a fucking illuminati moon base? Also mediocre boss fight are better than no boss fights.

They did. They just needed to show more of it.

Apparently this game was in Obsidian's hands before the responsability fell off to Eidos, so that must've meant a somewhat rushed development. Still, the maps are great and some characters were okay.

Because the main story was always meant to be "who bombed the train station, let's catch the bad guys". Once adam has the mastermind beaten the investigation, hence the main plot is over. All that other stuff would have likely have been side stories anyway.

I really liked it. I think the smaller scope made the whole experience more intimate and immersive. The only real sin I think it committed was on top of not answering questions from the last game, it created more questions on its own without answers. The next one will probably be a day one purchase for me.

user, it was a pretty good game. I recommend you play some legitimately bad games to give yourself some more perspective. I bought, played, and beat Bubsy 3D when it came out. Once you've done that you'll know the difference between "An enjoyable game with some observable flaws" and "A pile of hot garbage, how did a team of people spend years working on this and feel okay about releasing it?".

They must have invented that "Gold X" award for themselves, right?

They did.

>the illuminati (the main fucking villain of the entire series) would have been a side story

>the mystery of jensens augs and what really happened to him in between games would have been a side story

>they plant doubt in out minds that we're even playing as the real jensen at all

Face it, the game was unfinished and chopped up into pieces.

>All they had to do was improve on human revolution

They did. The issue is they did it like 3 years too late and the game should have come out in like 2013 if they were just going to continue directly off the last one.

It clearly says the name of the magazine that gave the award right there you tards. It's a playstation biased magazine, yes, but devs don't get away with blatantly making up awards to put on their cover.

>Click on a Deus Ex thread
>End up in a Bubsy 3D thread

I never asked for this
What coud PAWsibly go wrong?

This
desu this game would've been GOTY if after you killed Viktor that was only one half of the game and you got another hub to explore alongside ~15-20 missions more

And the mid-game plot twist is that you're not the original Adam Jensen but a clone made by the Illuminati who pretend to use you as a sleeper cell

They did, the only thing that's worse is the story and even that is debatable.

It's an RPG you fag, of course people are going to be interested in the story and characters.

Add a climactic reveal during on the moon base and you just described what the finished game was probably supposed to be. Damn shame because it would have been great. Now the series is on hiatus indefinitely.

>the mystery of jensens augs and what really happened to him in between games would have been a side story
it was (see pic)

>they plant doubt in out minds that we're even playing as the real jensen at all
Not even the illuminate had the technology to flash clone someone in the space of 2 years. B y the time of the original dx they did

So it was the aliens?

Getting a woman to write anything? No wonder the story was so fucking dull in MD.

I think the problem was the characters. Jensen of course is completely ridden of an interesting personality, but that worked in HR because we had characters like Sarif, flygirl, that awkward computer guy etc. The people you meet in MD are just completely uninteresting.

She isn't actually in the game but she leaves a model of her aircraft for you to find.

The illuminati psychiatrist (that sadly didn't get developed too much) and Miller were somewhat interesting or at least entertaining characters.

Eliza's sidequest was pretty cool, too. But you're sort of right.

What I feel MD did somewhat right was develop some interesting themes through its sidequests and odd areas/notes/characters though, you do feel sort of like a detective in the game reaching your own conclusions and that's surprisingly fun.

I'll never not deal with how Jensen's ex was happily fucking that robot fucking shit that nearly killed Jensen, while the world was going to shit.

She was the writer for HR. MD had different writers while she was the 'narrative director' or some shit.

Pic related doesn't tell us exactly what happened to Adam at the baltic sea lab or if the Adam that wakes up in Alaska is the same one.

>Not even the illuminate had the technology to flash clone someone in the space of 2 years. B y the time of the original dx they did

As far as the public knows. They make it pretty obvious they are hiding what's really going on up at the moon base, and at the time of MD the orignal DX is only 20 years away anyway.

The public didn't even know there were clones even in the original time frame.

By public meant us, the audience, and the characters we play and interact with. My bad for poor choice of words.

Beta Malik fags how do you honestly defend your selves? she literally looks like a boy with a boring as fuck personality Adam can do better. Glad she's dead. Inb4 that scene in MD, that was just fan service she didn't actually travel all the way to Prague to put a toy air plane in his cereal box when he wasn't home for some reason.

I meant the public in the game who didn't know where the gray death came from apart from the conspiracy nuts who were largely going on anti establishment bias and happened to be right. We get the intro where it's pretty clear the guy in the vat is a clone. A guy in a vat is so synonymous with cloning

Oh, so we are in agreement. My english isnt so good when im tired
