Oot is supposed to be a prequel to alttp but it does not match in the details.

Oot obviously created 2 timelines as seen during the ending but wind waker references events from both.

Problems from the timeline: who is Ganon, where did he come from and what was his motivation? Who created the master sword and when? How does Tingle from WW know about Tingle from MM? How does Gannondorf exist in WW if he transformed into Ganon and was killed by Link?

Who says it was only across a couple hundred years? I don't think there's much indicating timeframes between Zelda games.

Basically Breath of the Wild tells the story of the Sleeping Zelda (Big Eyebrows) and how Ganon was revived for the last time. Probably somebody (unknown) destroyed the containment field during the Oracle games, or his dark power leaked in the real world.
This Link, basically, has to lose.
Basically after OoT the only legit descendant is TP Link. In both the Adult and Fail Timeline Link hadn't the possibility to fuck anybody. So the Sheiks decided to "clone" the hero and give him to tutors. The grandma in WW and the uncle in AlttP.
Basically since the Hero's lineage has been broken what remains of the Royal Family is trying to recreate Link artificially.
Botw takes place in the Fail Timeline right before Zelda 1

There was a timeline until OOT and it was mostly consistent except maybe Link's age. As far as I can tell, OOT was planned as a prequel to ALTTP but they didn't bother to make the events match between the two games. After that there is some vague continuity but none of it makes much sense.

All timelines existed and all events occurred despite contradictions between them.

Several details from ALTTP do match up to OOT like Ganon's origins and the creation of the Master Sword. The overall plot is the same though.

Link makes some sense if you realize it's a fantasy world and keeping him in some special stasis for 100 years could keep him unaged for a century. Again, Zelda doing some dumb shit and taking the guy's life away from him again like in Ocarina.

I think Nintendo just shoehorned the timeline since so many fans were obssessed with it and keep talking it up. Nintendo officiating a timeline is just them trying to bring cohesiveness and trying to create a legend comparable to something like Star Wars or LotR where it has a well defined timeline and way shit works.

Except for the obvious games like Ocarina and Majora's mask where they blatantly are from the same canon.

Other than that I believe it's what it was before they started thinking about a timeline, no Zelda game was connected like that, meant to be direct sequels, just meant to stand alone.

Because the Zoras in Hyrule were not sea zoras, but rather fresh water Zoras. Try doing the same with river fish and throw them in the ocean. They couldn't adapt.
