No they aren't. They are shallow platformers. All you do is jump and grab enemies. No power ups, no extra moves, nothing.

rock-solid yet very simple gameplay foundations, easy to pick up and play even for the dumbest kids, great artstyle and level design, decent storyline with a few twists and mood shifts you wouldn't have ever expected from a game like that
if you're looking for complex gameplay where you can approach every situation in two dozen different ways then it's not for you, but it's still a great game that does what it sets out to do brilliantly
