Has anything surpassed Halo 3's hype? Halo 3's launch was an event. It was the triumphant end of a franchise that gave the Xbox a right to even exist and not only that but it was doing it in full 640p.

Halo 3 was the only midnight launch I ever went to, do not regret. The line was massive. Those commercials were top tier too.

I can't remember anything special about Halo 3's release. How was it better and better than the one Fallout 4 had, to take an example?

Halo 2's storyline ended on a massive cliffhanger, and even the single player was driving people crazy with theories and speculation.

I think 3 is just a worse version of 2 aside from Forge, but I agree 3 had a level of hype that even bled into the normie world that's been more or less unprecedented.

Even shit like fox news was covering it. Only thing that's come close was when Pokemon Go got really big for 2 weeks

ODST and Reach were still great despite the latter's flaws, and 5's MP and Forge are fantastic. If 6 is as improved from 5 as 5 was from 4, 6 might actually be one of the best games in the series

Halo 3 managed to stay relevant in the Xbox Live Charts until 2010 when Halo Reach came out.

No Halo did that after 2010. Every new halo dropped on Population etc just 1-2 month after release and that really hard.

I remember people skipping school to get it. Fun times.

Besides, 4 is only shit in relation to the other Halo games, judged as it's own thing it's a perfectly decent 7.5/10 or even 7.75/10 shooter. Story is absolutely garbage though

I really think this has more to do with CoD's increasing domiance then any decrease in quality with Halo.

Reach was doing fine population wise untill black ops came out.

Halo 3 was marketed as the end of the story, that alone helped it rise above Halo 2's hype. No trailer from all of Halo 2's marketing touched the anything that had Halo 3's name on it. The community was at its largest, and Halo 3 dropped with forge included, so there was also hype from anyone who ever wanted to build a map (something not done particularly often on console outside of Far Cry).

Anyone that left Halo for yearly COD were unmissed. The Reach community afterward was great without the COD kiddies.

I had an xbox360 but I bought it for weebshit. I don't really remember Halo that much.

Possibly Super Mario Brothers 3 was more hyped, since they made a movie about it as a full length advertisement.
