How was somebody supposed to know how to do this?
How was somebody supposed to know how to do this?
Imitation.
trial and Error. Imitate the animals.
Tell me how someone is supposed to know how to crystal flash or make shields?
the vulpixs literally show you how
literally
you do what they're doing, and eventually you'll understand walljumps.
this is exactly the same as saying
>how was somebody supposed to know how to do this
with the ostrich that taught you how to charge your run boost and dash in a direction. i figured this out at 8 years old, don't tell me you're dumber than my 8 year old self
Public school makes you learn good.
>make shields
People still think shields are bs in this day and age
Dude just watch the damn animals they do the motions for you.
Shit like this is why on-screen text prompt tutorials are becoming so prevelant, isn't it?
you're not supposed to draw conclusions yourself based on the video component of a video game.
the video is there to watch and be enjoyed in a relaxing manner :D.
Take not people, this is why you don't start a series late. The game literally shows you what to do you turd.
are you purposely being stupid or do you not know you can make Beam shields in Super Metroid.
I fell you are the former.
Fuck this part. This ended my first run as a kid since I saved down there. I even tried imitating the creatures but due to the difficult timing of the wall jumps I never pulled one off. Years later when I found out exactly what to do it was still difficult.
This was actually the first game (or any media) I had played that included a wall jump. The concept was alien to me. I tired just about everything to escape from that pit; after a few weeks of practice I could almost get out with bomb jumping. Eventually I just started a new save and avoided falling I the pit altogether.
H O W ?
O
W
?
Super Mario bros. and Megaman doesn't tell you via text on how to jump.
They just send a slow and or low damaging enemy at you or a step forcing you to actually fuck with your controller.
Old games expected you not to be a fucking moron that can't put two and two together.
>Tell me how someone is supposed to know how to crystal flash or make shields?
Both of them are shown in the demo openings. The beam shields can be reasonably worked out from them, but I don't know how you'd figure out CFing just from watching it. You'd be able to work out the PB part of the equation, but due to the extra arbitrary buttons you also have to be holding, I feel like you'd be more likely to just sort of stumble into it.
Mother fucker you better be glad you didn't play Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
>wall jumping was difficult.
Do you have broken hands?
Are you mentally stunted?
Did you ride the short bus?
Did you die more than once to the first goomba from SMB?
Do you find Souls games hard?
You know I never had an issue with any part in this game except I didn't know there was a run button until the speed booster upgrade.
I actually jumped across those tiles to get to the other side.
Also, I didn't get the grapple till way later because I froze the enemies and jumped on them to get to the ship I think.
>Segababbies so retarded that they make a meme of getting stuck and not even trying every button on the controller
Just press down, nigga
I don't understand what combination of button presses for the shields and I don't know how the demo would convey that.
As for the demo of the crystal flash you could just mimic exact demo's items and shit to figure that out what was done.
I didn't find out or remember any of this was in Super Metroid until like 3 years go.
>"hmm, maybe I should press the jump button to perform that walljump"
>"oh, that doesn't do it, maybe I need to use the d-pad as well"
it's really not that hard
>Git Gud: The Thread
How was anyone supposed to know this shit when Sonic Team never even gave a clue?
To defend them. This is the literal only barrel in the game that worked that way. Every other barrel either moved by itself.
I never had the gift of autism to perfect my technique like you did, I suppose
>I don't understand what combination of button presses for the shields and I don't know how the demo would convey that.
>As for the demo of the crystal flash you could just mimic exact demo's items and shit to figure that out what was done.
It's the other way around. CF requires holding extra arbitary buttons. Beam shield is just highlight PB and charge (and you can only have one beam equipped besides charge). You could beam shield by complete accident, but the odds of that happening with the CF are substantially less.
>get to this point
>try to follow them
>the just bounce off the walls and keep going up
>wtf I don't have that powerup yet
>eventually they drop back to the bottom
>try to talk to them
>they don't say anything, just keep bouncing off the walls
>never get the powerup
>lose three hours of playtime because I can't progress and can't make my way back
And fuck those hacking speedrun shitters who just give themselves that ability from the start of the game. I never did figure out where that walljump powerup is.
Fuck this part. This ended my first run as a kid since I saved down there. I even tried imitating the card but due to the difficult timing of the bell rings I never pulled it off. Years later when I found out exactly what to do it was still difficult.
The wall jump is a bit of a pain in the ass but it's more because the animation is unclear of when to press it.
I didn't understand it as a kid so I used timed bomb jumps.
Everyone points out the glass tube or the wall jumping as obscure, am I the only one who thought the entrance to kraid's lair was utter bullshit? It's one fucking block that's a pixel out of alignment and you're supposed to know to shoot it.
This is the only thing that's ever stumped me as a kid because it shows up out of nowhere following its own rules.
...
I got stuck at this part for a week or so when I was a kid. Back in the 90s, couldn't even look it up. I figured it out eventually by noticing how Samus' sprite changes when I hold up against the wall, and then eventually pushing off of it.
I was like 7 when I played the game.
I pieced that shit together in like 10-20 mins.
I just bought the game and I remember the green bird teaching me the run.
I put two and two together and just got good.
I'm sorry that you inately suck at game
Dont you need to only have one beam weapon equipped to shield? I played through Super a dozen times and I never knew about it because there's absolutely no reason to unequip items.
As a kid?
Idk man Super Metroid is a fucking piece of shit
DELET THIS
terrible bait
>play this as a kid
>can't wall jump for shit
>play it years later as an adult
>can wall jump up one wall with ease
You've been waiting all these years. Now you have finally achieved the recognition you deserve for your Metroid prowess.
Show, don't tell.
Plus it's not a necessary move to finish the game, or even to reach any specific secrets. Even this very room can be climbed by bomb jumps. I know people who have 100% in SM and didn't even know you could wall jump.
>You know I never had an issue with any part in this game except I didn't know there was a run button until the speed booster upgrade.
>I actually jumped across those tiles to get to the other side.
[x] Doubt
Not that it's not doable, but the idea that you never looked at the control config (especially since Super's default controls are ass) yet jumped across the noob bridge is hard to believe, given the spike ceiling directly above it that necessitates perfect shorthops the whole way across.
user don't skim, actually read. I literally stated that you can only have one beam equipped. But yes there is very little reason to unequip items. The only particular reason I can think off offhand to unequip is if you wanted to see what the beams looked like individually. Although it's also feasible that a player only had one beam when they got their first Power Bombs (likely the Ice Beam).
> beam shield
What.
>being able to fucking jump is autism
NINTENDO POWEEEEEER
I haven't played Super metroid in over 10 years.
I'm sorry that you don't have basic gaming prowess.
Head back to your phone games.
How were you supposed to know you were livin' a lie timmy?
They're a unique creature at a dead end. If you don't realize it the first time, you'll probably come back a few times and eventually realize they're a clue.
1. Observe
2. Use common sense
>it's more because the animation is unclear of when to press it.
You press it when you see Samus bracing against the wall. It's the exact opposite of unclear.
>am I the only one who thought the entrance to kraid's lair was utter bullshit? It's one fucking block that's a pixel out of alignment and you're supposed to know to shoot it.
Entrance to Kraid is three blocks, and none of them are out of alignment. What gives them away is the block design, being part of a wall that ruins what would otherwise be a symmetrical room design (apart from the door). What you're supposed to do is bomb it first (because at that point that's what you know reveal passages or other forms of destructible blocks) which shows they're super missile blocks, which you then shoot.
Go play Super. Equip only the Charge Beam and one of any other beam. Highlight Power Bombs, then charge a shot.
look it up.
It's one of like 4 techniques hidden in Super metroid. 1 of them taught to you by the animals The wall jump. Most games afterwards kept this.
2 of them referenced in the Demo reel the game runs when you wait on the title screen. these techniques are the Crystal Flash and Beam shields. Both of which haven't left that game and weren't of much use in that game. The other is the Shine spark which was as far as I remember never taught to you but remains in every 2d metroid afterwards.
You're the 122nd booker
That's the puzzle
Wall jump and shinespark are both shown in the opening demos.
Shinespark is taught to you by the Dachora in Brinstar, same as how the Etecoons (also in Brinstar) teach you the Wall Jump.
>being able to perform a technique needed to complete the game = autism
When will this meme die?
>though it's also feasible that a player only had one beam when they got their first Power Bombs
I don't know about that, I could have sworn you needed wave beam to get past a gate before then.
git gud casul
>I could have sworn you needed wave beam to get past a gate before then.
You do not. There is a gate nearby, but you don't need to go through it.
