VR buyers remorse and clinging to false hope thread

Vive owner here.

Still clinging to hope, since there is nothing wrong with the hardware, but only barely, because there are no signs that it being a literal no games machine is changing anytime soon.

Gud games tier:
Sairento (early access no content, but at least regular updates and solid base mechanics)
Doom 3 VR mod (it works and is what mostly resembles a complete VR game)
Vanishing Realms (sad that a fucking unity asset flip has to be considered good in relation to everything else)

No content tier:
Arizona Sunshine (3 hours)
Superhot VR (4 hours)

Shit tier:
House of the dying sun (limits the resolution to rape your eyes)

Space trucking tier:
Elite dangerous

Currently looking forward to Robo Recall (thanks revive) and basically that more old games like doom 3 will get VR mods.
I could do without flashy new games if i would get the latter.

>those eyes

I pretty much gave up on VR as a vidya platform before Rift retail even came out.
If they can figure out a good way to present pro sports on VR, it's gonna be great.

I think Sky plans on doing that.
Not that i care, if i watch sports i usually do it with some friends and beers and a HMD would be a shitty option.
Doom 3 made me like not giving up on it as a games platform.
Because when it can crank the fun of that game up again and it only needed some modding guys (not even dev support) it has great potential.

PSVR buyer's remorse here, it doesn't support 3D SBS (In english: no porn)

Do not buy PSVR. That is all.

I bought a Vive in November and was starting to feel some buyers remorse, but the Doom 3 VR mod turned my feelings around. I fucking hated Doom 3 when it came out, but playing through it in VR was something I would call an amazing experience. Gave me hope in future VR mods/re-releases on the same par.

>buying sony's shit
You stupid, stupid son of a bitch.

Well I learned my lesson now.

How is resolution and framerate on PS4?
I usually instantly refund games that limit the resolution, because low resolution makes me wanna gauge my eyes out after 10 minutes of play.
The cutoff point between "that looks great" and "can't fucking endure it" is also pretty hard - so I'm wondering how the PS4 manages it.

Had exactly the same experience. Doom 3 even managed it that I forcefully tried to overcome motion sickness - after 1.5 days it was completely gone.

Why the hell would anyone invest in VR at this point when the technology is still expensive and the market/industry support is still very small? It's like buying a $1000 Bluray player at launch.

I have the Gear VR and still fap from time to time to VR porn. It's worth the effort from time to time.

Experiences are great and probably the best things that VR will offer in along time. Video games (at least mobile ones) are just not at that point yet.

to play doom 3 vr, do i have to buy the original game on steam or can i pirate it and mod it to see if i even like it?

>buying VR for a locked down system

But why?

I assume you're talking about resolution and framerate in general on a monitor. Struggles at 1080p and sub 30fps. Specifically Warframe.

I seem to be pretty lucky when it comes to motion sickness, never had a single issue. Only thing that produced any negative reaction at all was walking forward in real life, while walking backward in game with the touchpad controls. Which was a pretty retarded thing to do.

Its for the BFG edition, pretty sure you could just pirate it.

Because i grew up in the 80s and basically saved a little money over the course of two months to pander to my inner child.

It isn't like I didn't knew of the problems VR has at the moment, its more like my inner child was stronger.

You can Pirate it, but it has to be the BFG edition. But its basically 5 bucks nowadays and its worth the 5 bucks for the vr experience.

Now i meant the resolution of the PSVR headset and the framerate you experience with it. Since VR is generally a huge burden on the hardware.

Oh right...well it's a stable 90fps but resolution is 720p and games look like the dreamcast. Those that have the pro say it's bumped up to Gamecube levels

Well I didn't had actual motion sickness, it was more like my sense of balance started to fuck around during sudden movements, giving me soft knees.
But as I said, i forced through that pretty quickly.

>What HMD do you own?
OR, just bought touch as well, waiting on a PCI-E USB 3.0 to arrive tomorrow so I can try it, because I didn't realize that it required the second sensor, and I can't use my MOBO's USB 3.0, because ASS Rock controllers aren't compatible with OR.
>Full buyers remorse or still having hope and why?
I still have hope. Like another poster said, the hardware is fine, actually quite good, it just suffers from a lack of content. Probably because devs recognize that they can't make a big investment in making a game that really shines for VR, because the market for VR is so small thanks to the high cost of entry.
>Favourite games? Games to stay away from?
I pretty much only play Project Cars with a racing wheel/shifter/pedals setup, and it's fun as hell, especially while pumping Eurobeat. Elite dangerous is also extremely comfy, but the game itself suffers from a lack of content of course. You can probably tell, I bought into VR mostly for seated/cockpit experiences.
>Looking forward for any future releases?
Not really. I don't pay any attention to what's upcoming for VR games.

Well as far as i know with 3 sensors the occulus can even do roomscale.
If you ask me its one of the most fun experiences that VR has to offer.
But as a Space/Flightsim fag i can understand the cockpit argument.

Cardboard ownere here.

I think I want that pizza box back.

I want to buy VR for racing sims. Is it worth it?

Nope. Thank me later.

>What HMD do you own?
Google Cardboard
>Full buyers remorse or still having hope and why?
It gets old after about 20 minutes.
>Favourite games?
Obduction
>Games to stay away from?
Elite Dangerous
>Looking forward for any future releases?
No.

I'm yes if you have the expendable income for it. It's still not the same as real driving, of course, because you don't experience G forces, and most pedals don't have any force feedback, so you don't have any clutch feeling, and the brake feels not quite right, all the same stuff you have issues with with VR-less driving sims.

should I buy those chink google cardboards? What do you even do with them?

Watch 3D movies. And yeah chink cardboards are decent.

Oculus

I have the same problem mostly with these games as they just don't feel complete. The only one that feels like an actual game is Lucky's Tale, and while I feel its the best looking depth of perception I have played so far I was glad to be done with it.

Ripcoil is probably my favorite game on the system but like I said it just feels imcomplete with only 4 maps that are barely any different from another and lack of players.

The Climb was a joke and Windlands went from 2/10 to 8/10 with Touch. Level design really tapered off near the last half of the game with nothing really special added. Story was some retarded shit being spouted off be a foreigner that could barely speak English.

Superhot and Edge of Nowhere seem cool enough but haven't put enough time in to decide whether they are decent. Chronos is just a ghetto dark souls, started off decent enough but I dunno man.

VR porn I've just been using Waifu Simulator since Source Movie Maker is just too much damn work to learn.

Wasn't someone working on getting the PSVR running on PC?

I have an Oculus Rift. I use it for table tennis and racing sims. For me, it was well worth the money, and I don't regret it in the slightest. I use it nearly every day.

Check out Eleven: Table Tennis VR if that sounds fun to you. It's exceptional, and there's a pretty decent community surrounding it. I'm playing in a tournament right now, actually.

I also think about getting Edge of Nowhere because i like cthulhu shit.
Superhot is good but very short, wait till you can get it for 10 bucks so you won't be disappointed that you went through it in 2-4 hours.

Never got into Ripcoil - maybe revive does a shitty job emulating the head tilt movement, but i always overshoot my target.

Actually forgot to write your answer.
Why would you try to get PSVR running on a PC with everything you need its just as expensive as a vive and has worse performance.

I haven't bought any vr yet but figured if I do it would be great if they got PSVR working on PC so I could get one and get access to both PC VR games and PSVR ones.

In that case, I would just wait a little bit, to see if Sony can keep their VR titles exclusive or not.
As far as i know RE7 will get VR support in about a year on PC and the only game that sony makes that's probably gonna stay PS4 exclusive forever is that one shooter i forgot the name of.

But than again, the PSVR has several tradeoffs.
One would be that it has lower resolution and the other that it can't really into 360 motion - since that camera is your only "sensor"

That's also the reason why making it work on the PC would be problematic, since both main PC HMDs use a different tracking method.
There the headset reports the position and not those things you put on your walls.

I bought it to play RE7 and later Ace Combat, not to fap. So far, it's been a fantastic purchase.

You are an insane idiot.

Also, PSVR is cheaper. They got a bundle coming out soon for 500 bucks that has the headset, camera and wands. Just the Vive alone is 800.

I forgot to say Farlands was the biggest disappointment even though it was a free game. They could have easily turned what they have into some kind of pokemon snap esque game and thrown a lot of interactivity in there. What they made now is just boring.

Nah, just a die hard RE fan.

With that bundle it is indeed a little but cheaper.
I paid for my Vive 720 eurobucks new - just monitored the sales for a few weeks.
Would have been 899 eurobucks retail.

Well i can only tell about my experience of the vive, so if you really want to get a VR, and have a strong enough PC (i.e. i5 that runs 4ghz and at leat a 970 memecard) go for the vive (since or is even more expensive when you want touch control + roomscale)
If you don't have the PC to run it and bucks are really the kicker, than probably PSVR would be the only other option that lets you game.

Yeah, my CPU is kinda shit. I can maintain 60FPS in Witcher 3 on high settings with hairworks on, but I'll probably struggle with any more fancy vr games. Think I'll just get a PSVR for RE7 and a few other games, and for watching 3D movies (I always heard it doesn't support 3d movies but apparently sony JUST announced an update for it to)

> the Vive alone
The Vive comes with controllers and sensors
Even Oculus comes with a camera and an XBOne controller.

Short reminder for VR bros that this will release for free in the next weeks in the rift store (and for everyone who can execute the revive installer)

youtube.com/watch?v=MIK4D0kVlIs

Only 3D Blu-ray, nothing from your USB drive

Doubt it'll stay like that for long. Seems like a no brainer business move. Make it work only with 3d blu ray for a few months in order to move a few blue ray sales, then patch it to include shit like videos from your HDD and youtube and whatnot.

Anyone else with a standard PS4 and update 4.50 think PSVR looks slightly better now? Also is it worth getting a Pro?

does revive work with every rift game?

i can play any rift game with my vive???

Nope, they've been adamant about not allowing porn on PSVR.

Fucking everyone told you there was no content. EVERYONE.

How did we know? BECAUSE IT WAS NOT BEING FUCKING ADVERTISED.

I'm amazed it has surprised people.

Most of them work fine, here have this link.

github.com/LibreVR/Revive/wiki/Compatibility-list

Luckys tale, Superhot VR and Ripcoil work without problem. That i can tell form personal experience.

Everyone was still curious on how the tech would be though. Also, dat porn.

Bought a vive in December, played the lab, space pirate trainer and job sim
sold it last month, its not worth the price for nogaems

I think most of us, who threw away 700+ bucks for VR already knew that there was no content and knowingly said "fuck it, i'm gonna get it anyway"

At least it had a first tv in the 50s vibe, when you have a lot of friends over just to try it and watch them making a fool out of themselves while sipping a beer.

This. It's emerging tech plus it's growing at a snails pace to boot.

Prices aren't coming down and software is barely being made for it. I won't even think about investing in it for another 3 to 5 years at least at this rate.

y-yeah, my friends were all impressed...

what are some "rift-only" games that people recommend using revive?

u ready?

>falling for the vr meme system
I bet you faggots bought 3d TVs and HD dvd too

wasting your time to comment on a thread to add nothing of value.

gold star from me to (you)

>3d tvs
it still hurts

Rest in peace 3DTV

No, but I've upgraded my collection from VHS to VCD to DVD to HD-DVD to Blu ray to Blu ray 4k, it gives me purpose and an identity, girls borrow movies to watch at home, one of these days they may ask me to watch them together!

The Rift games, have the same problem as any other VR game at the moment, and that is, that you dont get any content for your money.
I myself got Superhot VR Fun - but very short.
Kinda want to try Edge of Nowhere, but i'm still not sure about this.

But in a few week robo recall releases there for free.

3d tv was a great investment. did 120hz years before it was standard so i still use it now

I have a DK1 Rift and a Vive.

Counting both, I have used them less than 10 times.

I was really hyped for VR, but I just can't seem to motivate myself to use them.

I'm just waiting for a good AR/MR option then they can have my shekels.

Anyone have some cool shit to do with cardboard? Most of the games are pretty boring. Tried some naughty america VR and it was okay, but got boring after a week. Where are all the good porn games at?

Get your mind out of the gutter. Shameful!
