Sorry, I wouldn't know, I don't play video games.
i loved it
i want more damnit
yeah it was until I updated the game to fix a broken side quest and the update ended up breaking the main story and gameplay
got it for only $30 and still feel ripped off. not buying a square enix game for a long time
most of the hate came from morons who thought they could max the game with msaa at all
the rest of the hate is fairly legitimate but no other game did the genre better last year
>ignoring the main missions and just exploring the HUBs and doing sidequests
The only way to enjoy this game.
Shame we wont gat a new game because of shit sales.
were the rumors of adam being a clone true?
It was okay but the plot and setting was the worst of all 4 DE games. Still better than IW I think but I'm not american and not european by world's standarts and all this SJW shit seems so reatrded to me. And I don't know why anyone wants to put it into their game. People play games to escape from reality, to entertain themselves. Maybe I'm too old for this shit.
Really depends on what you expected. I will definitely agree that it was a better refined HR. But then t dealt with none of the core issue I had with HM in the first place.
The bait and switch of it being half a game must have it hit the game hard methinks. It doesn't have the mix of narratively reactive emergent and system-based gameplay that would have scratched the old DX fans, and it had a truncated narrative, making it lose a lot of value to the "game as spectacle" crowd.
One big issue it has I think is making the player care about what's happening in the first place. It kind of expect you to by sole virtue if things happening. ¨Poor narrative contextualization I guess.
>fixed all the problems of HR
>made the game feel even more rushed/incomplete
bonus points for invisibility still being incredibly broken and the DLC aug breaking the game
It was like a touched up modern version of HR
Story was a bit weak but still enjoyable
No idea why it flopped hard
>modern version of HR
HR came out in 2011, is that not "modern?"
>SJW shit
I don't understand this accusation.
>augs get manipulated into commiting mass murder by illuminati to stop augmentation
>normal humans treat augs with suspicion and hate since most of them did it to themsleves out of free will and not necessity
>both sides have absolute scumbas or good people
What's SJW about this exaclty?
2011 was 12 years ago user.
>flux kicks in
>suddenly playing HR
makes me chuckle every time
>the hubs
>plural
Is this an elaborate joke
And the hub is fucking terrible and tiny and barren
>playing deus ex games for the plot
lmao nobody actually does that
you fucking loser
>shoehorned strong black woman who don't need no man thrown into story without a wink of reasoning, no introduction
>game deliberately drags you through tedious and poorly designed areas to iterate segregation, even stops you over and over again for random checkpoints
>ARC soldiers are 50/50 male/female
the whole aug lives matter is also awfully convenient
The whole game was literally muh opression agenda.
Setting being shit and playing for the plot is different thing. It was not cyberpunk, it was not DE it was modern western world insanity.
>worst possible hub: czech shit
>less weapons and items
>retarded dialogue
>unfinished story
Why did it flop
>even stops you over and over again for random checkpoints
That literally only happens at one checkpoint being run by a corrupt local trying to juice augs out of money, and any subsequent times are when you take the flesh car on the subway, where augs aren't allowed.
As for the ARC soldiers the point is more than augs can level the playing field, since metal has no gender, not because muh females are so strong.
>only the hub is enjoyable
>has only one hub
>missions mediocre
>ending clearly chopped and patched in hurry
>now development stopped
>enjoy your non-ending forever
Devs of remake/resurrection projects never understand what made the original great
It was excellent.
>and any subsequent times are when you take the flesh car on the subway
which is automatic since the aug/human car is random, and is guaranteed to happen more than once
and randomly in the street on at least three occasions
>publisher fucks up the marketing and cuts the game into 1/3rd of its intended content
>publisher then says that they won't be funding more games in the series because, for some strange reason, this entry didn't sell as well
Gee I sure do wonder what happened here
If only Square didn't fuck with the development of the game so much. It could've been good.
And you do?
>aug/human car is random
The Aug car was always the one furthest from the stairs, and was very clearly labelled.
>now development stopped
>enjoy your non-ending forever
it's not actually completely stopped, it's just on the backburner while they work on other things
the hub was not tiny in any sense and was filled with really good sidequests and amazing interconnected level design
To be fair, some might, but then when management demands that you make a modern mass market product out of what was a rather niche title by today's market standards, you have a recipe for disaster by way of constant compromission.
Alternatively you have shitstains that think themselves so much better than the original designers and willfully try to make a game better by destroying everything that defined it (I'm never getting over that leaked Thi4f design doc).
I honestly believe that the game was sabotaged.
>I'm never getting over that leaked Thi4f design doc)
Explain?
You can probably find it online still, but basically the original bullet point document for the game, with Thi4f designer(s) describing their intent, presenting the original as outdated and obsolete, with the new game going to make it all better... as we all got to see.
The gunplay/stealth is fun as fuck.
I hope the DLC is just pure linear levels with good design. That's all I want.
>that coolbox with a jensen-looking head and augments in it in the vault
So are we just ignoring this?
I think it's more that people aren't caring.
I can't get it to run proper for the life of me. Lowering the graphics is for pussies.
It's non-relevant. They put the jensen model in probably because it was one of the only model they had that was topless.
>read that post
>think to myself that "compromission" sounds made-up as fuck
>look it up just to be sure
>first result is a Merriam-Webster entry
Well I'll be damned
>>shoehorned strong black woman who don't need no man thrown into story without a wink of reasoning, no introduction
She had her introduction, you're literally angry at there being a black woman in the story.
This game was fucked the moment they made it about Jensen again.
They probably thought they were going to do well because of character recognition, but now the game only appeals to the amount of people who remember the plot of HR, and brings no new people in at all
RIP
FUCKING THANK YOU
I've been saying that keeping Adam as the focus for Deus Ex Universe doomed it from the start, but got ignored on DX threads for years. Even the comics released between HR and MD suffered from focusing on Adam.
Fucking this. Why does there need to be an explanation for having a black character?
>adam met her during the transitions between games because...uh...because she's a super-secret hacker and super powerful but also augmented and black
>jk she does literally nothing but serve as a plot infodump
shit was stupid as fuck
the cherry on the bad-writing cake
Honestly, I'm thinking it's not so much Jensen as the fact that the game fails at making you care. No stakes in it for you.
Jensen *is* part of the issue, but I think it's much broader. As I said up-thread, events happen, and the game seems to think you should care, but it has a very hard time communicating why and how.
Worse of all, it's failing at doing that while being painstakingly deliberate in its narrative (the checkpoints complaints are an example of that).
the side-show black refugee trying to smuggle herself out of Prague was literally more well-written than the sidekick
bad characters are bad characters, her being black just fuels the fire of "arbitrary addition to score contemporary forward-thinking game design points"
The writing of the first Deus Ex is among the best in the history of the industry.
>inb4 thats a low bar
Sure, but it leapt far above that bar.
>her being black just fuels the fire of
Don't expect people to agree with your stormblr propaganda. Go feel victimized by colors back there.
I wouldn't say the writing stricto sensu, more the narrative design, the enfolding of narrative elements into the gameplay.
>Shame we wont gat a new game because of shit sales.
Source?
If you're looking for legitimate explanations for why this game didn't sell well with its target demographic (18-35 year old white men) then you'd better look carefully at the decision to replace cute vaguely arab babe and white paternal figure with incredibly diverse cast of minority characters who look like their faces have been smashed repeatedly with hammers.
You might not like it, it might be stupid, but there's a correlation here.
cool argument fagtron, she serves no purpose in the story
the secret hacker could have gotten into contact with Jensen directly and not a single thing would have changed
Black pilot is fine and actually moderately fleshed out
Black sidequest character, same thing
it's literally "we need a black main character to plaster on the game promo but we won't bother to justify her existence." It's ironic that you think her being black is all that's needed for inclusion and you call me victimized by colors..
So she is an infodump that is also black. Her blackness is totally irrelevant.
Her appearance is relevant.
You want characters that the player can identify with and is comfortable with. Average 30 year old white male (the Deus Ex target audience) doesn't hang out with black women who have the, well, whatever the fuck her haircut is called.
is it still unoptimized garbage?
False-flagging methinks.
Not saying the decision has no impact, that would be ridiculous, but to put the whole low sales issue at its feet is just as ridiculous given how much the game has going against it from both a design and marketing/management standpoints
It looks to similar to HR imo. They would have gotten my interest if they had a new protag and art direction.
Some african mumbo jumbo dare I say.
Fuck, I thought this game was shit cause it was like 12 hours. is it worth 17 bucks?
It wasn't random. If you paid any attention to the environment, you'd notice how each subway platform was separated between "Flesh" and "Augs" with clearly labeled signs. Step into the Aug-Only section and use a map there to get on a train and it was only ever the Aug-only part of the train you were on. Step over into the Flesh-Only side and use one of the terminals there and you rode on the Flesh side with everyone looking extremely uncomfortable at Jensen's presence. Additionally, the first time you try walking through security checkpoints listed as "Flesh Only" instead of taking the "Aug Only" ones in subways, you'd always get stopped and asked for identification. If you never go through those and stick to the Aug-Only ones, you aren't.
I personally thought it was a nice touch to have the game acknowledge you were breaking the rules by ignoring the signs.
Wtf I thought denuvo was supposed to make them rich since pirates can't steal revenue from them anymore.
Did you do the side mission with Sarif? It's heavily implied by the end of it that the Jensen you play as in Mankind Divided is a clone of the original.
In that same vault where you find the coolbox, you also see other wreckage recovered from Panchaea. It seems a little too intentional to be completely irrelevant.
Denuvo didn't have shit to do with it, it was SE cutting 2/3's of the content and charging 60 bucks for it.
For some reason games with denuvo sale even worth.
>muh oppression
>niggers in Czech Republic
Proof that pirates won't buy a game they can't pirate and every single DRM out there is literally a waste of money which could have been used to improve the game itself.
Know which game also has very dissapointing sales despite having Denuvo and a previous game in the series which sold very well?
Starts with D aswell.
>doesn't hang out with black women
You really could've stopped with black, or women. Goddamn, how sheltered are you?
>quicktime event takedowns
>this is the only way to play stealth
No thanks.
This goes against everything I've shilled for, welp time for sudoku.
user was being sarcastic. Publishers blame low sales on piracy.
This time they don't have that luxury because of Denuvo. It's kinda fun seeing management not having that obvious scapegoat to hide behind when the results of their poorly done job hits.
How is it false flagging? Please explain, I'm genuinely curious to hear your reasoning?
I actually liked the game and strongly recommended it because it addressed a huge complaint I had with Human Revolution, which is that you couldn't do a run and gun style of character but instead had to rely heavily on the shitty cover shooting if you wanted to go Terminator on stuff. Then they added the Titan Aug which makes the Terminator playthrough viable. It's a good game.
But I stand by my analysis on the audience's reaction to the game's story and characters. Sarif was a great character that players liked, cut from the game. Pritchard was a good character that players liked, cut from the game. Malik was a good character that players liked and jerked off to, cut from the game.
Replaced "le cool epic underground hacker man" who looks like a wax statue of the late Prince (RIP), and black woman who honestly looks like she was designed from the ground up to be impossible to sexualize.
I'm not saying it's right, or defending this as a reason to avoid the game, but that's what the player feedback has been. All I can tell you is that Hideo Kojima is the smartest man in the industry because he 100% understands how to sell even his incredibly shitty narratives to the video game buying audience. And that's with Kiefer Sutherland and Quiet.
don't know if it's true
Get back to me when the ratings for the new season of 24 are in and let me know how it does with the most important (read: likely to spend money on advertised products) demographics.
>How is it false flagging?
People have been raising several high impact reasons for their dislike of the game: from management issues - the whole cutting of content, the tacked-on multiplayer mode no one asked for (no pun intended) that stole resources from development, the infused P2W design forcefully injected in the game, the DLC model, the use of Denuvo - to game design issues - people not liking that the HR core design was there to stay instead of being amended into something closer to DX, the narrative-design issues, the overall level design, the very story itself.
I'm totally willing to back you on that diversity choice having an impact on sales. Trying to pretend that it explains it all, or even can account for a majority of the lost sales from HR?
I call bullshit. Just another bogeyman to dodge the overall mess. "Piracy" argument replacement.
Yes it was. Fuck what """Sup Forums""" says
fuk off sjw shill
What? That's completely wrong.
Thanks for responding.
1. I was not aware of the cut content issues, personally.
2. I do not care about the multiplayer nor know anyone who declined to buy the game because it has multiplayer?
3. What P2W things? If you mean the one use DLC crap, yeah, that was TERRIBLE optics for them, and also shitty, and they can suck my dick for thinking that would fly. But it wasn't P2W at all. It was just stupid.
4. Denuvo. I get that some people boycott Denuvo, but to the tune of the game being a flop after the first one was a big hit?
5. This is a good point. People who bought DXHR and didn't like it didn't buy MD. I'll give you that.
But with that said, I firmly believe that the game would have had better word of mouth and sold better if they had brought back the cast from the first game. Again, see what I believe is the most common critique of the game: "The story and characters sucked in this one."
I have worked on a lot of marketing campaigns for some very different products (virtual and physical) and I can tell you this:
Sex fucking sells and people like it when you put them in comfortable surroundings. And you put them in comfortable surroundings by creating images that they're familiar with.
BTW, this is also a big part of why cyberpunk media always has a niche following and rarely gets mainstream attention or push. The average middle class childless male (aka someone with disposable income and prone to impulse buys) isn't comfortable with it.
>PRESS X TO TAKEDOWN
>HOLD X TO NOT KILL WHILE TAKEDOWNING
No it isn't, fuck off retard.
>I was not aware of the cut content issues, personally.
Did you even play the game? Not even saying this confrontationally, but I have a hard time imaging anyone reaching the end and not noticing.
2- You do not care. I don't, to be honest. Some people did. And they voiced their issue. "I do not care" or "I do not know" are not valid counter-arguments.
4-Denuvo as with the diversity argument, I don't think Denuvo explains it all, but I do think it explains some. And all those different reasons add up. If anything that's my main point. There is so many fuck ups adding up, and you can't point at any one individually explaining it all.
That is not a QTE and it's not the only way to play stealthy.
And thew best part is that they blame the creators and not themselves.
They only cut the game to pieces (and literally moved some to DLC), then sprinkled with shit confetti (microtransactions)
Also tie-in last minute online mode NOBODY ASKED FOR
>main quest is by far the worst part of the game
What other games have this problem
fug... had to check but it's true
VtMB.
The main missions are just an excuse to send you around all the locations.
The sidequests are the actual meat of the game.
Why is the depth of field so demanding? Shouldn't blurring the screen make the game less demanding? The difference between on and very high/ultra is like 15fps, Jesus Christ.
Skyrim. The game is way more enjoyable just not going to Dragon's Reach so there's no random dragon encounters every 5 minutes.
That's just Sup Forums being full of shit and ignoring everything but the main quests. MD lasted me longer than HR, even with HR's DLC. It's basically just more better HR, so decide off of that.
>5. This is a good point. People who bought DXHR and didn't like it didn't buy MD. I'll give you that.
The issue is that the number of people who played HR is basically the maximum possible sales number for this game. There is no new audience coming in because the whole thing mankes zero sense if you haven't played HR.
Then from that already limited number you need to subtract
>people who didn't like HR
>people who got pissed off about 'augment your preorder'
>people who heard about the technical problems
>etc
>The whole game was literally muh opression agenda.
The villain of the game, i.e. the bad guy, is the one with this agenda
Absolute 10/10 music by the way
youtube.com
>Still better than IW I think
at least IW was cyberpunk, MD is generic terrorism shit plus heavy-handed racism metaphor that makes no fucking sense in this game
"Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a future setting that tends to focus on society as "high tech low life"[1] featuring advanced technological and scientific achievements, such as information technology and cybernetics, juxtaposed with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order."
sounds pretty fucking cyberpunk to me m8
Dude Sex: HR gave us one of the best trailers in vidya history.
Adam was supposed to die at the end of HR but management insisted that he and his manly voice be brought back as the main character for the sequel; that's according to the developers.
I still have the original HR with the piss-filter and not that faggot Director's Cut.
And Cryostatis.
You niggers jelly?
he did die at the end of HR
MD Jensen is a clone
>high tech low life
The greatest screen name ever.
HitechLowlife
augmentation is completely legal, but you get thrown into a concentration camp with combine death squads afterwards?
why would you round up random double amputees instead of just disabling their augs and stop augmenting people?
I never asked for this.
*Shades on*
*Big baggy coat on*
Also, fuck Lemon Lime.
