None of these games sell as well as the 2D Marios, lol

Bump. Galaxy fans can't handle the truth.

Looks like the sunshinetards have finally started grasping for straws

mario 64 is the best 3d mario and mario sunshine is the worst 3d mario.

It's just a fact that they're a different kind of game. That doesn't mean they're lesser in any way or that one playstyle is the "true" one. Stop baiting.

Kill yourself sunshinefag

Both "series" have Mario navigating a 3D space. One just focuses on goalpost-style gaming while the other is objective-based.

Both have merit. I personally like the objective-based style more, but I really enjoyed the hell out of 3D World because it knew what it was trying to be, unlike Galaxy.

>mario 64 is the best 3d mario and mario sunshine is the worst 3d mario.
This

Galaxy 1 should be on the bottom row

Linear af, no it shouldn't

Yes it should, its nowhere near as linear as what followed. Many of the worlds were similar in scope to those in 64

Ok.
Can I be fucking real?

Sunshine fags are the worst. It is by far the worst 3D Mario. First of all, unlike 64, you can't even get the shine sprites in any order. The level design is ass. The locales are boring. It's was so obviously rushed that they used blue coins as an excuse to not include extra worlds. It has half of the world series of its predecessor and none of the variety.

The fact that Sunshine fags try to tout their game as the pinnacle of the Mario series, let alone better than 64 is laughable and proves they were born during the GameCube era.

Galaxy and the 3D games might be linear,. but they excel as platformers.

Just stop.

No it wasn't. The world was nothing but a Hub like in Galaxy 2. Each level was linear and wasn't open like in 64 or Sunshine

linear mario > openworld mario

Why the fuck should I give a shit about this when galaxy is still a good game?
Choke on a dick you fucking faggot.

Galaxy had some traits of a real 3D Mario. There were some occasional open areas with more than one star to choose, and if you didn't like a star, or even a level or world, you could skip it.
It also felt like a proper 3D Mario in that it was grand, it was a big deal and they tried to make something epic.
I agree that it's too linear to be a proper proper 3D Mario though.
It falls somewhere in between.

this
I like you, user

is Sup Forums trying to redefine the definition of the third dimension?

you can say it's not a 'sandbox' or whatever the fuck you want but it is 3D

>real 3D Mario
>proper 3D Mario
Motherfucker it's ALL 3D Mario.

I like Sunshine, but I can agree with a lot of what you said. It did great things for Mario's moveset, there's multiple ways to approach things, but the level design and even the objective design is so non-platformer sometimes it hurts.

It's a great game, but it isn't the best. That would be Super Mario 64

t. 64 babby

Morons like you encourage Nintendo to think like that. Thanks to you we haven't had a true 3D Mario for 15 years.

but they list 3D right next to Galaxy...

you guys are dumb

It's comparing linear marios to explorey marios

this, they even mentioned that the red ones are the "sandboxy" marios

'Course clear' 3D Mario.

'3D Mario' is a term used to describe Mario 64 style, not just any Mario with three dimensions.

Well Mario 64 might be one of the most well-aged games of all time. With the exception of the slight adjustment period to the 1996 controls, it's one of the few games that plays just as well as I remember it. I can't say that of Mario's 2D classics, DKC games, almost all RPGs, certainly not Mega Man.

>they describe it using 3D Mario
>but when they say 3D Mario they don't mean THOSE 3D Mario games, only THESE 3D Mario games

What kind of mental gymnastics are required to actually think this?

>Mario 64 might be one of the most well-aged games of all time
>I can't say that of Mario's 2D classics, certainly not Mega Man.

I like Mario 64 and Sunshine alot, they both were good open world 3D platformers and I'm glad Odyssey is like that.

I wish people wouldn't fight over which of the two is better though
I like Sunshine more by just a bit

Indifference. I already knew it wasn't the same level of open as 64 and Sunshine.
>mario sunshine is the worst 3d mario
Why?

Nigga Super Mario Bros. aged like fine wine.

Probably because it's not as open in regards to how the player can progress and choose what objectives they want to complete, its narrative is stupid as fuck, and the blue coin meme.

>true 3D Mario game by Nintendo?
[citation needed]

Stop infighting before we become this for Mario for the fanbase.

Linear mario is the best for 2D games
Sandbox mario is the best for 3D games.

I'm taking it fine.
I consider Mario Galaxy my personal GOAT, but that's with a lot of biases. I had a lot of childlike wonder at the time, and I went to the New York City midnight launch, so there was a lot building up to it, and I feel like of all of the 3D Marios, it's the one I had the most fun with on my first playthrough, especially because my attention span was fucking ass when 64 and Sunshine were around.

If I were to choose a more objective best, it would definitely be 64 over Sunshine. Sunshine's incredibly tight controls felt incredibly responsive to me, if a bit too stiff and reactionary at other times, but the level design and the "forced" content through needing to get 7 shines in every level was a bit forceful and makes replaying it less fun. 64's near complete openness of "so long as you end up with 70 stars you can finish the game" leads to a lot of interesting paths to take, and a lot of ways to beat the game. It kind of reminds me of Super Mario World in that regard. I'd say 64 is the ideal 3D Mario, and I hope Odyssey can build on that.

tldr; I'm a Galaxyfag because of subjective bias, 64 is my pick for best, Sunshine was great too.

>It just gets longer meme

Are you kidding me? Mariofags are several times worse than Sonicfags

...

Fucking this! Why do people do this shit? It's like saying Kirby amazing mirror isn't a real 2d sidecroller because it's isn't as linear as nightmare in dreamland.

Ooooh, time to make one. Does anyone have a stick figure template? I seem to have misplaced mine

Switch NSMBU and NSMB Wii

Personally I enjoyed Mario 64 and Sunshine over the Galaxy games. Galaxy just felt way too on rails for me.

>stop baiting

That's why this board exists. To bait retards

I really like the fact that Nintendo are self aware of this

They even confirmed that the real reason we even got Galaxy's linear style was because the Wiimote didnt have a second analog

Seriously though good on them recognizing that 3D Mario has different styles

It means they are self aware

and just as aware of the different Paper Mario styles

With Yooka-Laylee turning out to be a dud, we definitely needed a quality sandbox platformer game to get our fix, and thankfully Nintendo's delivering.

I have to agree, linear allows more creativity in hidden areas.

There's a difference

Sonic arguements are about designs and whether boost is a good mechanic

Mario arguments are simply Linear vs Exploration

>Super Mario Galaxy is bad

Nobody is this contrarian.

user that Chart was talking about the approach they went for with the 3D Mario's

They are all considered main series 3D Mario's

>didn't like sunshine
Not saying you're a bad dude or anything but blegh, what didn't you like about it?

>Read this post
>Get to the end
>Remember in the Color Splash reveal, Bill says "Paper Mario is always trying to innovate on the action adventure genre"
I'm so fucking angry about this. There is a black pit in the depths of my heart that is 100% mad Paper Mario hasn't been good in 10 fucking years

Why is it a dud?

Ignore him.

>galaxy 1 is worse than 2
if the fact you spent time assembling a stickman meme wasn't enough to prove that you're a faggot, this one settles it all

I really enjoyed color splash. It's not perfect, but it's a solid 7.

I wasn't a big fan of Mario 64 to begin with and Sunshine was just the same thing but with less interesting environments. Only one I haven't finished though, so I'll probably give it another chance someday.

But there were such heights, user... such glorious heights...

The level design is looking flat, empty and generally uninspired. Whole game just feels like a janky amateur product.

>Galaxy
>liking waggle shit
Why is this allowed on Sup Forums?

I hope you find some good out of it, I think the game is amazing

Color Splash was still a good game in having the charm and aspects of Paper Mario that made it likeable

But the main draw, aka gameplay is what drowns it, but it shows they atleast know what they need to do with the series

I mean I'm not saying TYD isn't miles better than CS and that I don't want another proper Paper Mario RPG, but CS is an enjoyable game.

>Sup Forums has actually become so contrarian that they are actually contemplating that galaxy is a bad game

Honestly i don't know how much longer i can put up with this shit

>The world was nothing but a Hub
>Mario 64 castle isn't an empty hub

Le waggle meme XD

What do you expect?
Most of current Sup Forums are too young for even the Wii.

only the beginning, the rest of cashino looks neat

Fixed it. This is correct and you can't change it.

If them showing off one level is going to turn you off from it then I don't really know what to tell you. I think the game looks cute and fun as fuck. It's also retailing at like 40 bucks which is nice compared to full priced games now.
I saw a lot of people on here acting like they WANT it to fail. I can see people wanting a game to fail if the game was trying to push some kind of agenda behind it or some shit, but I'd expect everyone would try to be in high hopes for a game like Yooka-Laylee.

The top row is good, the bottom one is shit.

I don't really prefer either style so I'm fine with both. My favorite 3D Mario so far is Galaxy 2. Can't wait for Odyssey, I hope it has at least ten worlds, hopefully fifteen like 64 or more.

I mean, it's not like Banjo-kazooie/Tooie didnt have a weak world

This world is particular is definitely weak

That music also feels like they were trying to make a factory level instead of a casino

>not even being considered a true 3D Mario game by Nintendo
they're all 3D mario games retard. there's no "true" about them. one some of them are sandbox collectathon types and some of them are course clear types, one is not inherently better than the other. personally i got tired of collectathons because the n64 was saturated with them

The classic DKC games play like butter though.

tryhard contrarian fag

Goddamnit Billy. Go away and molest somebody else.

Couldn't agree more.
I mean it's all well and good in moderation but collectathons were everywhere back in gen 5 and 6 and it became way too oversaturated.

Galaxy 2's just a more limited Galaxy 1

>wii is cool now
Underage

The wagglan meme died years ago when people figured out you can have good games on the Wii.

you're the underage shitposting about a console you probably still have no idea about

No, it's a game that doesn't bog itself down with a structure made of small, repetitive planetoids like the first one too often does. It also has more to do in general.

>How do Galaxy fags think of their 'best game of all time' not even being considered a true 3D Mario game by Nintendo?- 83 posts and 15 image replies shown.

Then why did Nintendo make 4 of them?

Because the top one is considered a true 3D Mario by Nintendo as in it takes the progression of the 2D games had and puts into a 3D space while the bottom is just it's own collectathon genre.

Fucking this so hard.

Best thing about sunshine was Mario's controls but that means fuck all if they don't give you fun levels to play in.

>real 3D Mario

At this point there are more linear 3D Mario games than open ones.

Thank you.

Daily reminder all 3D Marios are good with 64 through Galaxy 2 being incredible.

Galaxy 2 > 64 > Galaxy > Sunshine > 3D World

>limited

Nigga what. Better power-ups, better level design and more varied worlds.

Is 'limited' to you is not being able to run around an empty spaceship?

I lived long enough to see the underageb& like the Wii on Sup Forums.

we've liked it for a long time newfag. retards and dudebros shitpost about it because they're clueless about the library

Why are the only people who make threads like this Sunshine autists?

No, Color Splash is still pure shit. The combat is outright pointless.

Like I said before the wagglan meme died out when people figured out you can have good games on the Wii.
Hell OpRainfall started because of the great games on the system.

>Can I be fucking real?

No you cannot

well technically, uh, nah

Sad how much Sup Forums has changed

Galaxy 2 definitely wasn't

Galaxy 1 was kind of a hybrid, but mostly wasn't
