Is Total War: Warhammer a good entry point to the Total War series? It's $12 right now.
I played the Warcraft RTS games and Warhammer is heavily inspired by that so it seems like a logical entry point.

it's probably shit, just get shogun 2
It's a good game and worth 12 bucks.
The DLC is a ripoff.
So just get the game for 12 bucks and don't buy the DLC unless you really want a specific one or there's a good sale.
Getting Shogun 2 is also great advice.
Shogun 2 fucking owns.
>warhammer is heavily inspired on warcraft
3 posts and no one has bitten this bait
Sup Forums truly went to shit
OP here
I just wanted some people to bump my thread when they got triggered by that so it didn't fall off the board.
Looks like it was unnecessary.
warhammer > shogun 2 for multiplayer
Yes its worth 12 bucks
Get DLC for specific races you want.
King and Warlord is good value tho since it provides a different approach to campaigns
>Facebook-tier bait
>Sup Forums doesnt bite
>Sup Forums went to shit
I hope you're joking
Nobody cares about the Warcraft shit, but I'm down to discuss the Total War series.
Sorry about your bait thread, dickfuck. You've just been OBLITERATED by Portuguese Tercos.
hue hue hue
Not him, but thanks for responding to my thread.
So how is it?
Where is it on sale?
>12$
where?
Humble Monthly
So $12 for it now and then a bunch of other games at the end.
TWW is a better game than Shogun 2.
Just get Warhammer dude. If you don't like Warhammer and like weeb shit then get Shogun 2.
Not OP. I own Warhammer through Humble, and Rome and Medieval 2 with all the trimmings physical. Am I still best playing Shogun 2 instead, or is one of the older titles better? I hear a lot of good stuff about all three.
TWW is better in some respects (no naval battles because they don't have the MoW license to do them) but worse in others (gameplay balance and flow of battle)
I think it comes down to personal preference. If every faction had a unit roster as good and as the Empire's, I'd probably take TWW hands down. But you look at the rosters for Chaos and Vampire Counts for instance, and there are some units that I find to be either totally useless or horribly priced.
$12 where? It's not at that price on steam, at least on my region.
Shogun 2 is probably my favorite TW, I haven't played TW:W yet but it seems like it has way too many different units with los of abilities which might be bad, specially for someone new to the genre.
Why cant they make good DLC like in Shogun 2? Most of he dlc are just individual clans that you can get for dirt cheap, and the expansions ROTS and FOTS are great games on their own. Specially FOTS.
Why shogun 2 and not warhammer?
Are you falling for memes?
Rome is the worst of those four.
Medieval 2 is still cool but you might struggle to play it with how shitty the strategic map portion of the game is (IMO).
I'd try Medieval 2 first and if you can't get into it, move on to Shogun 2. Then play TWW.
Medieval 2 or Shogun 2 will teach you the basics of the game much better than TWW.
Where is it 12$?
On my steam it's not on sale and still €60
You realize that empire have the biggest roster in tabletop right?
humble bundle monthly thing. just subscribe for 1 month, download TWW then cancel if you want.
Yes.
I would only buy the DLC for the races you really want to play, as they're included fully (I think) for the A.I. anyway. So you won't miss any of the factions on the campaign map.
>Pumping out minuscule DLC packs that add little-no worthwhile content
>there's already worth close to $100 in dlc alone
>armies are still bare bones in comparison to the lore, no expansion pack in sight
My enthusiasm for what this game could have been died a while ago.
Oh, and still no Reiksgard/KotBS footmen. For shame.
>tfw bought it on a key site a few days ago for 30 bucks
>can't refund it
every time
And? i don't play warhammer tabletop and I really don't care about warhammer fantasy. I'm comparing the unit rosters in Total War; Warhammer. Because I like Total War games and I play them, and Warhammer is the latest one, and it's a pretty good one, and I play it.
If anything it's Sad! that the unit rosters are limited to what they have available in Games Workshop's incredibly shitty fantasy miniatures game that nobody plays.
Warhammer is not any where close to being the quality Shogun 2 is. Shogun 2 is literally the best TW game from a technical and gameplay standpoint, the only flaw is the similar factions and lack of mods.
base game for 12 bucks is an absolute steal - the main hangup is dlc, and for that it really depends on you/what races or features look interesting to you. My advice would be to play the base game, see how you like it, and depending on what you like/what you want more of, determine what dlc you want/whether you are willing to pay the full price for it. The one dlc that is blatantly overpriced is the beastmen pack
>games worth 100$ every month
>for 12$
?!??!? what's the catch?
You're right. Warhammer is a direct upgrade to Shogun 2. Like I said; there is no reason to play Shogun 2 unless you're a weeb, Warhammer is just a better game.
>beastmen are just chaos again but with greenskins waaagh meter
and that's 20$, when chaos is only ~8$.and they were doing so good at making the factions all quite different from one another. at least wood elves seem a bit different from the other factions.
>Warhammer is just a better game.
That's completely wrong and you know it. I like Warhammer but Shogun 2 was the pinnacle of the series and it's been downhill since.
>HURR THEY SHOULD NOT BE FOLLOWING THE TABLETOP IN THIS TABLETOP ADAPTATION
Just install radious if you want mirror rosters faggot
Catch being that 100$ dollar haul is mostly made up of overpriced indieshit
>Units having HP instead of individual soldiers with individual health bars
In Shogun 2, if you fire arrows into a unit you can tell how much damage you are going to do based on how many soldiers are hit by arrows. In Warhammer it's like watching an RPG play out.
>its a "faggot who only played rome 2 after shogun 2 thinks he knows the quality of attila and warhammer" episode
Oh my fucking god its a rerun!
For realism gameplay, Attila shits on Shogun 2
For just outright fun, Warhammer shits on Shogun 2
So yeah, no , Shogun 2 isn't the pinnacle
Maybe if half of you faggots who like to parrot
>muh med2
>muh shogun2
played Attila, you would know that.
Still animu pinnacle tho.
Check what did they give in the last month. Xcom 2 (which everybody bought the package for) + the game that made Crytek banktrupt + a bunch of indie shit + most overrated walking (swimming) simulator of the last year
Make sure you buy $1 tier from the weekly bundle if you're buying monthly for the first time. Gives you a 10% off coupon, so you get whatever is in the $1 tier in the weekly and the monthly for $11.80. Not major savings, but might as well since you get 3 extra games. You can also give some jew $5 by using their referral.
It's decent entry in the total war series if you can deal with the fantasy setting and the massive amonut of DLC the jews have planned.
There's also some features missing like bridge battles or town/village battles, but otherwise it's fairly decent because the units are actually fucking unique for once.
Attila is 10x better than Shogun 2 in every single regard, wtf are you people talking about in this thread?
If you want gunfights tho, play Shogun 2 The Last Samurai or WW1 mod of the Napoleon: Total War.
>Why cant they make good DLC like in Shogun 2? Most of he dlc are just individual clans that you can get for dirt cheap
The faction packs with no sale are still $5, people bitched about R2/Attila for the same thing, so CA went with a deeper rather than wider dlc approach.
>the expansions ROTS and FOTS are great games on their own. Specially FOTS.
Warhammer is getting 2 more installments, we have no idea if they'll be full priced or if they'll be expandalones like FOTS.
Yeah it's pretty good, I got it in the bundle myself and i'm having a lot of fun. The DLC prices seem ott though, i'm waiting for a sale on those because wtf.
This is good advice too, I fucking love Shogun 2, probably the best one overall still.
Atilla is the best border gore simulator ever, but it isn't good at much else.
>all those negative reviews saying they love the game but hit not recommended because of DLC prices
Having to pay $3 for blood does seem pretty ridiculous.
>Pumping out minuscule DLC packs that add little-no worthwhile content
What? Apart from the Chaos pack (which is half of the other two race packs) you get a full mini campaign. The two unit packs almost double each of the main 4 factions' rosters and legendary lords that give you different play styles for the faction.
>there's already worth close to $100 in dlc alone
All of the DLC is overpriced, but added up it comes out to $65, which is still a good ways from $100 and you shouldn't be buying dlc at full price anyways
>armies are still bare bones in comparison to the lore, no expansion pack in sight
>still no Reiksgard/KotBS footmen
Mods m8, a good number of the roster packs have legitimately good additional units.
Not that's Medieval 2 with mods.
I literally just bought this 30 min ago for £40 on steam. Its not even finished downloading yet.
I put in a refund request. I hope its fast enough.
>wait until you get the game at a steep discount
>complain about dlc instead of waiting until you can get it at a steep discount
if you willing to buy all the dlc, sure.
Why don't you people check isthereanydeal or something before buying games?
Stop saying Shogun 2 is not my favorite game because it's good and best!
Are you guys serious about this game being on sale on steam? Is it region specific perhaps? I am in Canada, and I am not seeing a sale.
HUMBLE MONTHLY
READ THE THREAD FUCKER
it's on Humble monthly.
read the thread
Its not on steam.
Its a "Humble Monthly bundle". It gives you a steam code.
It's pretty good for $12 bucks. If you like the game and don't play multiplayer you should still get around 50 hours easy, even without the DLC. It's my second favorite TW game next to Empire.
It's the most arcade-y and streamlined version.
Use my referral link and I'll send you a random key from a recent bundle, got some spare ones.
Just don't buy full priced DLCs. Wait for at least -33% sales, more DLCs and "standalone expansions" are coming.
For $12 it'll be good. DLC is jewish to the max though. Only get that stuff on sale.
I will say this OP, Warhammer is casual as fuck so don't expect the same stuff if you go back further into the games. For example the AI is only halfway decent starting with Attila and is barely serviceable on the older games, the only upside is far better mods.
It's like spot the difference here, what am I missing?
I love it and all the free content that added is pretty awesome too. Its actually sad because they've shown more love for Warhammer Fantasy then Gamesworkshop has in fucking forever. Also they added best vampire.
Medieval 2 > Rome > Shogun 2 > rest. The best entry point would be Shogun 2 probably if you need training wheels, as it is the most recent one and more accessible.
Alright so, I know the base game is all kinds of fucked (like railroading you into humans vs undead and dwarves vs orcs), but is it worth it for 12$? Do mods fix the retarded decisions by CA?
no but it sure is a good exit point for me
HEY YOU FAGGOT, YES YOU. DO YOU WANT THE BEST TOTAL WAR EXPERIENCE?
Here's what you do:
>get an Nvidia GPU
>install Medieval 2
>pick the mod you want
>get a friend or two or three
>start the hotseat campaign
>turn on Nvidia Share
>enjoy playing grand campaign multiplayer with any mod you wish
You could also do it without Nvidia stuff if you find another way to do it that works well with the game.
Pic unrelated
how do I git gud at this game? all my battles end up as clusterfucks that end in pyrrhic victories
I mean, a W is a W, but those men had families
Its shit don't bother.
>men
>not playing beastmen or orks
nigga check yourself.
hammer and anvil
it's already a fact that blizzard copied warhammer to make warcraft. Not even debate or anything, but you should stop with this weak bait.
they better have DLC discount when old world version comes out.
Yeah. That's what i did too and i'm enjoying it quite a bit.
I doubt the DLC will go on sale anytime soon. I don't fault Sega for it. Games Workshop are the ultimate fucking jewlords.
You need to keep the enemies ranged tied up. I usually do that with fast attack units. Flanking helps for breaking enemy unit morale so its good to have one unit hitting the front and back. Your fast units can help with that if you want. Units with high charge like cavalry are good for slamming into non anti large units then running away to repeat ad naseaum. Have your own ranged prioritize targets that don't have shields and aren't armored unless your ranged is armor-piercing of course. Going for leaders is always good as the enemy will break a lot fast if they lose theirs. Most leaders but not all have high armor so armour piercing on them is good.
Man he seems too good with his all army vanguard, exp gain for your army without even fighting, and solid melee stats. I mean I guess the lack of mobility for him since he has no mount is fair but god damn he is a rape machine.
It's dumbed down compared to others, but it's the first one I've played with actual fucking unit collision
Any day now were gonna get Bretonnia right? They said early February.
What do you guys think of Chaos?
28th for Brets
They said the end of February. As in the 28th.
R
dont buy it till skaven come out
skaven a best
>brettonia
don't the brets have like no units in the tabletop game either? from what I can tell, the only units the game is missing are some of the unique heroes, questing knights, knights errant and battle pilgrims.
i regret buying the blood dlc
in shogun it added camera spatter and beheadings and all cool shit that worked well with the actual dueling models
in warhammer you dont even notice the blood until you see the end of the battle your heroes and monsters are just red
Yea and they get raped by Wood Elves really fast every game I've seen so far.
>shitty fantasy game
user, I believe you're thinking of AOS. WH Fantasy was an incredibly good tabletop game.
LIZARDMEN
WHEN
isn't the lady of the lake a wood elf?
>lizardniggers
KILL-KILL LIZARD-THINGS!
They won't. Lizardmen have access to game-breaking power levels.
The Slann are basically responsible for the forces of chaos seeping into the world from the north and south poles.
lizard fuk u up
I remember them getting curbstomped by every other faction in the tabletop game as well.
She is definitely A elf. Don't think they've ever made it clear that she is a wood or high elf. Ariel mentions in the wiki she has a close connection and moreso than the brets.
>game-breaking power levels
>get raped to death by a bunch of leper rats
Just because their extremely powerful in lore doesn't mean they can't just balance them for the game.
After all its not like they completely wipe the floor with everyone else in the tabletop.
Skaven were alright if you spammed jezzails
lizards are delicious
