So many characters could be improved by removing a bunch of useless belts and jewelry.

When art styles are as homogenous as these sort of games are, simple is very hard to pull off while being unique. So they go for more and more.

I'd argue that the more busy a design is, the less recognizable it is.

I think you're searching for belt memes here. Some are backpack straps, some aren't multiple belts but a series of knot-like fasteners, and one is jsut an X shaped belt. There really aren't that many and you're autistic if you count every single line as a belt.

Because nippon animu artists forgot how to draw facial features - if you remove hair and clothing from 99% of those characters you'd be left with the exact same kind of indistinguishable doll everytime.
But this also gives you more fans in the autist community, since most autist suffer from the inability to recognize faces.
Giving every character male and female the same face gives them an instant feeling of fimiliarity that makes it easier for autist to identify with the character.

All the tales of MC have the general rule of wear at the very least 1 functional belt and 3 or more useless ones.
