>Significant other is considered dead >Husband receives cryptic message from dead relative >Husband goes down to find out what happened at x location. GAME BEGINS
Sure, I don't think it was SH2 in any form of media to use this start to a story. BUT...in video games, it's regarded as a big staple point.
Why did Resident Evil 7 copy it so shamelessly?
Carter Powell
I love the fact that Ark Thompson is canon.
Lincoln James
It was an alright fully fledged game. It was just too short, so they made sure you couldn't actually save your game.
Nathaniel Young
are you autistic?

>Why did Resident Evil 7 copy it so shamelessly? same reason they prolly copied P.T., which was a hidden teaser game for a new Silent Hills game: Because they could, and Jewnami didn't use the chance to become rich.
Hudson Wright
Don't forget husband has a FLASHLIGHT
Jackson Gutierrez
Silent Hill 2 did not invent any of those plot points.
Angel Taylor
isn't it odd that jewnami let go off a multi-business deal that was Silent Hill? They could have more movies (probably not, since the last sucked dick) but they had a franchise that could have carried on like Resident Evil. Look at resi, shit games in the past decade - but it still holds a name.
Charles Sanders
They had splittin' headaches
Nolan Ramirez
>Guy searches for his wife >ITS A RIPOFF OF SILENT HILL 2 GUYS You haven't even played the game, it's nothing like SH2
Lincoln Cook
I have played the game. The intro is very reminiscent of silent hill 2. Nowhere as good though, which is a shame. You have a better engine to work with, at least you could make Mia's initial video look a lot better. Play better music at the very least.
Jose Bell
Simple answer: money. The Silent Hill IP hasn't made any kind of money since maybe Homecoming, and the second movie bombed. Meanwhile Resident Evil has made a profit both on the games front and the movies.
The certainly had a chance to make the IP salvageable with Kojima and Del Toro's name behind it, but they fucked that up

>isn't it odd that jewnami let go off a multi-business deal that was Silent Hill? Not really. Us old fans already knew for sure that Konami itself never cared for SH nor Team Silent. They pulled the same dirty stunt on them over a decade ago, as they did to KojiPro couple years back.
Ironically, Konami's greatest success stories have been all made by their smaller, specialized teams. They themselves don't really care of videogames anymore.
Camden Lee
Literally that intro is all you can point to where it resembles SH2. I don't remember super powered hicks and moldy zombies in Silent Hill
Adam Jones
Well, it's all Pachinko from this road on. I don't even know what they'll do. Cash in on cheap shitty mobile games and shitty jap arcade stuff.
In the end, it was the Japanese that brought upon the end of SH2.
Camden Bennett
I agree. Other than that, the story stands on itself. It get's very resident evil. The intro bothers me some because SH2 did it a lot better, with a lot more added mystery. I'm 1 hour into Resi 7, and it's already predictable. Poor old hick family fell for Umbrella lies or some evil corp. Family is now consumed by disease whilst lonely daughter watches from afar. Like, Jesus Christ. Why hearken back to SH2 then follow with a shallow story. I get it, it's a different game. But it would be nice, if Resi stories just had some kind of meaning and uniqueness to it.
Xavier Reyes
>wife isn't actually dead >no demon magic
Tyler James
I generally like the earlier RE stories for that kind of shallowness. Overall, yeah, the Silent Hill games have great depth to them. Resident Evil I feel is made as a throwback and captures the simplicity of a lot of 80s Romero movies or even John Carpenter's stuff. Peeling back the layers of each game's location and reading the journals and all of that is part of the fun for me, kind of like how you realize in a John Carpenter movie that something is hidden in plain sight, like in They Live or The Thing. 7 isn't perfect but it did recapture that storytelling aspect that I love in the older games, even if it's a bit more convoluted and treads on some same ground
Bentley Cox
Why people are this retarded?
Pachinko means nothing, it's just a quick cashgrab. They were there since forever. Other MGS games also had their own pachinko. Literally everything has pachinko version. It's just a fucking skin for a pachinko machine with few reward cutscenes.
Carter Martin
What a retarded thread OP consider killing yourself
Mason Kelly
I agree with you. The Resident Evil games are unique, the early ones anyway. They invoke memories that very few on-going game series do.
Austin Peterson
Yeah because those plot points are so unique to Silent Hill 2 and really complex enough to never appear twice in media.
Nothing in RE7 feels like SH2 at all which basically denies your whole theory.
Eli Collins
SH2 is one of the front contenders for best storyline in a vidya game.
