I just ran into Death and got my fucking ass beat.
How much grinding do I need to do and where's a better weapon.

Also, why the hell did I never play this game until now, it's fucking great. Are the DS Castlevanias just as good?

We would need to know what weapon you are using to judge that. Also, which souls you have would be helpful, as well.

>Are the DS Castlevanias just as good?
Yes. Aria of Sorrow is very similar, although loses the good art for some anime shit. Portrait of Ruin is fairly good, being closer to Symphony of the Night with a character-swap gimmick but no souls. Order of Ecclesia was an attempt to turn the soul idea into a full weapon system (which didn't work out) and change how the map worked (which didn't work out) but still had much the same gameplay.

Dawn of Sorrow is good, but not as good as AoS. Some might argue that, but I don't think it's as good an experience all around. Its soundtrack is GOAT though.

The other DS ones are somewhat different, but still good. OoE is a black sheep, but it's a great game.

How about not getting hit you amateur

Death is the hardest boss, and will destroy you if you're not careful. Just learn to avoid. All the bosses after and before are much easier.

It's the best handheld Castlemania, so check out the others. The NDS ones are worth checking. Dawn is Aria but bigger, but not as good. Charlotte/jonathan is interesting but I never beat. I liked Order of Ecclessia the most since it felt newer.

Get Giant Ghost and Medusa souls.
>Giant Ghost kills the small scythes in phase 1
>Medusa soul lets you dodge 2 of his phase 2 attacks ezpz

This is my equipment. I'm using a Gorgon soul for the extra defense.

How do I dodge his throw attack though.

Ah fuck. I never got a Giant Ghost soul, but I guess I can go get a Medusa soul.

Try out one of the giant swords. They have a massive overhead swing and so can take out the scythes flying around easier. If you swing while in the air, you won't be forced to stay still during the swing like you do when on the ground.

What attack soul are you using? I seem to recall Axe Armor is quite good, although the frost ghosts are handy as well.

>How do I dodge his throw attack though.
Isn't down + jump a slide move?

Wow okay I can see how this would make the fight a lot easier.

I can duck under the first part, it's jumping over the return that I can't get down.
I use Ghost cause it's holy so it does a lot of bonus damage. But maybe Buer can be used in place of Giant Ghost?
Well here goes round 2.

>I use Ghost cause it's holy so it does a lot of bonus damage. But maybe Buer can be used in place of Giant Ghost?
In general, I find that a cheap soul which can be used a lot is more useful than an expensive soul, even if it does bonus damage. It saves more MP for other abilities you might want to use.

The main reason I recommend axe armor, and the frost ghost, is because they have a wide attack and so can take out the minor sickles flying around easily. I'm not sure if Death resists physical or ice, but being able to hit him from a distance and from an angle you normally couldn't is generally quite helpful. The boss fights, especially the longer ones, are more about being able to avoid and kill threats rather than trying to out-damage the boss.

I should note that it's been a long time since I played, so I don't much remember what Buer or Ghost does. I can't say how effective they are in general, much less against Death, in that case.

never gets old youtube.com/watch?v=DfkJpzBoJ-M

Buer is two fires that go around you, they one shot the small scythes but don't always stop them.
Still, helps a lot.

Ghost actually does like no damage to Death himself. So I'm not using it, just hitting him.
I almost got him but then got hurtlocked three times in a row cause I failed to dodge his rush attack so I died.

What the fuck is this

Is headhunter skippable? He ended up beating him very late into the game.

Yeah, you can skip him entirely by using double jump and the flying armor.

He's at 1 HP and sliding through enemies, getting a GUARD. What in the hell is that about?

Yeah fuck you, faggot. That was a lot easier with Buer just to get rid of that early chip damage from the mini scythes, although that's still a pretty hard fight.

>that feel when bloodstained won't be as good.

3D and Inti-Creates was a mistake. Only 3 returning members, Curry the kid, Michiru Yamane and Iga. Not key artists, directors, level designers, etc.

Oh, by the way, I hope you found the three books around the castle.
If not, don't worry. Consult an FAQ after you've beaten the game. You'll figure it out.

I wonder if people like you will ever understand that they released things like these in order to get feedback.

I found one of them.

I also found this on my way back down the Clocktower. Would have made the fight a lot easier.
I'm only a little mad.

Order of Ecclesia is my favorite Castlevania

Might as well ask.
Is there anything actually worth buying at Hammer's shop?
Seems like he just sells stuff outclassed by gear you get by exploring or from drops.

One of the souls they is using increases damage based on how low HP they are. Another one can negate damage with the proper timing. Given that it is a TAS (Tool Assisted Run), they can easily enter the commands at the correct timing as much as they'd like.

Good to see you made it.

Oh shit, what's the catch here?

I don't ever recall using Hammer's shop outside collectables and stocking up on potions.

He's more useful in Dawn of Sorrow, since you can use souls to upgrade some of the weapons he sells.

>what's the catch here?
Expensive, large sword, slow to swing, outclassed by Final Sword and possibly some other really late-game stuff. If you just beat Death then you're probably in the endgame stretch, so that isn't too surprising.

Just save your game then buy it, and see if it has a disadvantage. That way, you can reset if it turns out to have a really big drawback you don't like.

Nothing too interesting. A few items are useful early game. It's mostly there to ensure players have SOMETHING even if they don't explore much.

Solid sword. You can beat the whole game iwth it. There's two better swords you can find in the game though. Might as well get it to try it out.

>defending kikestarters
capitalism was a mistake

Where's that TORtanic image with the Kickstarters when you need it

>Dawn of Sorrow is good, but not as good as AoS
I'm honestly curious why you think this. Setting the art shift aside, which we don't even need to mention, I enjoyed Dawn's weapons, souls, and castle far more than Arias.

Three Con Men. Three Con Men. See how they scam. See how they scam.

Yeah I savestated it.
Seems like a pretty decent upgrade. Arc instead of a line attack, slightly slower but does way more damage, even against undead which the other sword is strong against.

Will make those fucking flying enemies easier to deal with, so yeah, I think I'll take it. What else am I gonna spend my 30k on? I'm definitely not gonna save up for that 300k ring, and the black suit I found is almost as good as the gold armor so whatever.

Dawn feels like a huge rehash. The story and setting are far less interesting. Aria is the death of dracula, and that's interesting. Dawn is some cult or something or whatever. There's no urgency. I find the gameplay less good and polished. I liked the boss fights more but that's about it.

>Inti-Creates releases footage of MN9 that looks like shit
>Don't worry, it's just a beta
>They change nothing
>Inti-Creates releases footage of Bloodstained that looks like shit
>Don't worry, it's just a beta
>???

I didn't like weapon synthesis. There was a lot less variety in weapons since you'd just pick the one you liked and keep upgrading it, which didn't change anything but damage and the sprite if you were lucky.

Is that a gun

If you're so mistrusting about kickstarted games and aren't even interested in playing said games, why do you bother to follow threads and post? Why not play vidya or do something better with your time?

Yes and it sucks because it does awful damage by the time you can get it.

I remember one of the big two-handed swords he sells is roughly the second or third best in the game.
His stuff's not bad for how early you can pick up some of it, too.

because this is a thread about castlevania, you fucking mong.

Ah, yeah, that's the one.
Yeah, it's pretty shit, though fun to spam and because it's ranged you can cheese some stuff with it.
There's a railgun you can get from the boss rush which is really solid, though.

And? Like it or not, Bloodstained seems to play like a Castlevania and is somewhat relevant to the thread, you dense mongoloid.

>why do you read threads about kickstarters? i mean, threads that are about a game that's like a kickstarter

THANK YOU CON MAN

Aw, I was hoping the Dead Crusader would drop some armor, but all I got was this shitty upgraded Rapier.

Hey isn't there a PS1 Metroidvania? Or is it a PS2 game. Is that worth playing? I'm gonna assume it is.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night is the grandpappy of the Aria of Sorrow line of games, it's definitely worth playing. Emulate the dracula X collection on psp and unlock it there, it's the best version.

You can get Lament of Innocense and Curse of Darkness for the PS2, they are pretty good.

Wait, how do you play SOTN without R2 and L2?

>full weapon system (which didn't work out)
It works pretty well in the beginning since you can't just spam attacks but you get so much MP later that the system becomes very abusable.

>grinding
12 year old me beat this games dick in.

Git fucking gud.

There's 7 Metroidvanias. 1 for PS1. 3 for GBA. 3 for NDS. Bloodstained is the spiritual successor.

What did R2 and L2 do in the original?

Death is actually a common stopping point for people and forces them to grind and "get good" in AoS, even back at launch

Two of the transformations were mapped to them, while I can't recall how they did it for the PSP collection.

Alright sounds good.

Shieeet nigga really? Damn, although I guess I can see why I missed this growing up. My mom had a hard time accepting Melee cause it was rated T. And we were poor. I didn't even get a GameBoy Advance until I bought my own SP.
But hey I got some fun stuff to play that's for sure. Thanks.

Bat is on R, wolf is on L and mist was L + R iirc

GIVE ME YOUR FUCKING SOUL ALREADY JESUS CHRIST

How does any of the post demo footage shown so far look like shit though? The environments are detailed, the platforms have that color emphasis that the demo didn't have, and her movement is very akin to how metroidvania characters move.

How's this at all comparable to MN9 where the beta footage was low detail environments with simplistic animations?

FINALLY

Hey this seems good too.

Do you not have Claimh Solias?
Get Claimh Solias.

Do you have Lightning Doll?
Get Lightning Doll.

Are you still having trouble?
Consider suicide.

To be fair, it can be extremely useful for farming though.

Having flashbacks of Aria and that fucking table. If I told someone who didn't know about the game that I spent all day shooting tables with a gun in order to claim their souls, they would ask what I was smoking.

Environments look like ass with low contrast and terrible color palette.

Really?

I legit remember Death being a cake walk. I dont think I ever had trouble with him on any of playthroughs.

God damn that is one ugly art style

Because people want another TORtanic and shit on anything they can, since nobody's allowed to have nice things.

People very much forget that Konami kept tightening Iga's budget with every new game over the years, forcing him to learn how to actually optimize his games and budgets.

And people constantly point out that the increased contrast version looks horrible from an artistic design in various threads, since all that was really done was lowering the exposure to create a false sense of gothic darkness, while the left is par for the course on Castlevania titles made by Iga. The one on the right looks more in line with Lords of Shadows and makes it harder to track character movement, which is a big reason the graphics are designed the way they are.

Yeah, he nabbed people back in the day since he was the first real boss that put up a fight. If people either obtained certain souls / gear or had skill to make it up, he wasn't too bad, but I have lots of nostalgia remembering threads on GameFAQs back in 03-04 where people were begging for ways to beat him.

I remember a lot of things being easy as a kid.
Then I replay them and stuff ends up hard.

Death can't just be DPS rushed or easily dodged, and if you don't have good armor or certain souls he can easily kill you in 5-6 attacks.

>TORTANIC FAILURE IMMINENT LOL

Neo-Sup Forums

>ass with low contrast
Idk, just darkening shit like that is like setting the darkness settings of a game to the lowest settings; doesn't really work all that well.

>terrible color palette
A good lot of what we have seen so far is doing the blue/orange combo. Fits with the main character, plus also the classic color palette of CV1 as well. They are also for sure trying to work on adding more contrast for platforms especially as to them, the lack of difference in color palette was among the biggest problems of the demo.

Like, I know that everything isn't perfect (the roof shingles in the DU8 vid have kinda thin textures), but they are for sure making a conscious effort towards changing stuff.

I don't understand what you're trying to say here, I barely know anything about this game, I'm just pointing out from the 15 second video I just watched, that the artstyle looks really bad.

It looks dull, not to mention that the anime girl main character completely clashes with the realistic 3d environment. Shit just hurts my eyes.

>A good lot of what we have seen so far is doing the blue/orange combo.

Blue/orange is terrible.

>Sup Forums ACTUALLY talking about a video game
Holy shit

Not him, but it is literally the same kind of complain that was around last month when people bitched about procedural generation, which according to IGA, is to create variety in the way the world looks.

So when the guy says that they are adding a secondary intro zone as you make your way into the castle which is supposedly in the works, people expect it to look 100% as it appears in the fucking pre-alpha.

It's good though since both colors are on the opposite end of each other on a color wheel, so a good amount of contrast can be achieved, particularly for additional interact-able objects in the environment like platforms.

I love video games.

Also I don't think I was supposed to go to the Arena yet, but I got a kickass Muramasa and a better black suit, so if I survive this that'll be neat.
What's Muramasa do? It has worse stats on paper but does like 200 damage to the red flying guys.

FUCK OFF

I haven't liked a signle blue/orange combo ever. I dont' give a shit about any color theory garbage. It looks like ass, and always will.

It deals curse damage iirc rendering enemies unable to use magic.

>In this game, the Muramasa is the only weapon with the Curse attribute. As a result, its attack will be boosted by its target's HP if the target is vulnerable to curse. It can only be obtained from Lubicants, which are also vulnerable to sword and curse elements, the elements of Muramasa.

>Akin to the other "named katanas" (Onikiri, Kunitsuna and Yasutsuna), the Muramasa can hit twice if positioned correctly via holding down the B button upon swinging it. However, it loses this effect in trade of a unique 3-hit slash flurry for its Critical Art in Dawn of Sorrow.

Oh that's neat.
Guess these Lubricants are weak to curse then.

Uh, this game has some weird ass enemies I gotta say.

The environment is not exactly all there though. There's no stuff to interact with put into the environments yet nor is the lighting itself done yet (you want everything else done before the lighting is done.)

The main point of that video was essentially to ask players if the contrast between the orangish platforms and the blueish background was good enough so that it's apparent that the shingles are platforms.

>whats Muramasa do?
Nothing special in AoS as far as I remember. It's the only weapon that does "curse" type damage though.

>1. I haven't liked a signle blue/orange combo ever.
Sucks for you my man. It's probably the coolest of the color contrasts since it often ends up being a symbol for so many other things. But how it's being used is more important.

2. You hated Castlevania 1? A game predicated on its color contrast? Are you not a fan of the series? Then why are you here?

This room is giving me aids.

Nigga, you get your ass to the floating gardens and get the skeleton kicker soul ASAP.

It should be doable if you made a quick trip to the Forbidden Area

Is there something I missed that makes me immune to stone or summat? I'm doing this all but blind, so I just go until I hit a dead end basically. I think I should have gone right instead of left a while ago.

Like, well before I went to the Arena. Cause I think the Forbidden Area is right.

Intenitonally the hardest area of hte game. It's for bonus equipment.

Hah, well I did it anyways, so suck on that game, I got me a fancy lookin sword well before I was supposed to I guess.

Now I just have to not die to the magic carpet on my way back to the save point.

>Is there something I missed that makes me immune to stone or summat?
Gargoyle does that.

>I think I should have gone right instead of left a while ago.
If you got a rushing blue soul, this may be a good investment...

Oh yeah, there was a blue thing that went right. Hmmm well, I'm fighting Balore right now. Uh, losing to Balore right now, this is a difficult pattern to dodge.

Oh no, for the blue thing, you gotta learn how to stop time.

With Balore, if you have an overhead striking weapon, and you know when to stay crouched and when to move while just wailing on him, he should be doable.

>Implying

Yeah I'm getting the hang of it, fucker just seems to have infinite hp at this point.

And now the floor is exploding holy fuck

Aaaaand... Medusa soul made that part pretty easy. Well, that was still pretty hard, the first phase I mean.

Yeah his phase two's easy as shit. Oh and I highly recommend exploring every single thing you can before fighting the next non-optional boss.

Vegito pulls it better, but I think he looks the best without the orange shirt, just the blue shirt and orange pants he was wearing when fighting Freeza.

lol shit gaem

i assume you mean the laser rifle.

OP why the fuck are you playing it in such a fuckhuge window

The resolution is low enough as it is, it doesn't need stretching out like that.

Full screen = best screen.

Only Castlemania I ever 100%'d. I really enjoyed Aria.
