it's shit
Game doesn't tell you the importance of diagonal walking.
Let't be fair, there are countless flaws. But I'll take a heavily flawed game with interesting ideas over a well executed game that does nothing new.
the flaw is the OP on this thread.
there, job done. go fucking home.
ive played it and can tell you the snail pace walking is annoying and it gets boring only having 1 type of enemy to kill
I love it to death but damn there's loads.
mugger instakill knife throws when sidestepping at the speed of a tranquilized glacier
OP pls don't waste a rare IPL thread with a shitpost magnet opener
>only one type of enemy to kill
Sounds like you haven't gotten past the 4th day friend
I hope that the remake is faithful. I worry that it won't feel like Pathologic, but hopefully they'll do it right. If it's a REmake tier job, then we'll be in for a treat.
Have you tried the Marble Nest?
needs fast travel to houses you've been to
Too many words
That game is comfy as hell
Any news on the remake?
Holy shit thats the worst post I have ever seen in my life
This
No, but I would like to. What were your thoughts?
I quite liked it, it doesn't have everything in the game but it gives you a good idea of the direction its heading. They managed to capture its unique tone. Sadly its only a small portion of the map not the full thing.
I say give it a download, there might be a mega or torrent for it. Just a warning its pretty unoptimized.
kys retard
HARUSPEX > BACHELOR >>> CHANGELING
Anyone have a download for the patched marble nest?
bumping for interest
This game was so fucking boring.
It was just go here and talk to this guy then go and talk to that guy.
I arrived at the graveyard before i quit.
there's no solo nudes of haruspex
I can't. I can't see the trees for the forest.
SJW game and at least one dude in the studio bisexual. maybe the writer.
>sjw
>day 1 you have women being burned alive
>townspeople attack women at random
>any of the generic women npc's dialogue
>the herb brides
>using women to repair your clothes
>bachelor telling a woman not to worry about the soldiers killing her, they'll only rape
Why are you latching onto bait
>tfw the Plague angels show up
>spoiler
Fuck, where was this? I don't remember it at all.
They did that whole
>haha you expected me to be a man, but actually i am a woman
not just once, but twice
Clearly that makes them filthy SJW trying to eradicate the white race!
Well, they did also include a cute lesbian.
I didn't take advantage of the day 1 prices, should I restart?
There's a lot, but I still love it
It won't be faithful, that's why they retranslated the original and did a HD rerelease
no it fucking doesn't
The fucking random melee attack, goddamn who thought that was a good idea
>dialog options where you can mock women on the street for thinking they work hard
>SJW
No, that's fine. Just be smart with your money and raid houses if you have to
Why was the town empty on the last day?
Everybody's dead, user.
>start a thread about Pathologic
>accompanying memetext
It deserves better.
No, there are people in their houses. They even have special dialogues on that day
Well, almost everyone's dead. Or something. I remember the game getting pretty surreal towards the end.
I'm pretty sure it was to Eva or the whore that replaces her at a certain point.
>Remake wont have expanded abbatoir and termitary
Could anyone tell me whats the point of living
Executor can you give me a quick rundown ?
...
It's up to you, but it's not necessary. It looks daunting, but it's just meant to illustrate how bad things are and impress upon you how important it is to be careful with your money. It looks bad because you're given a few objectives that look like they'll cost a lot (procuring supplies, for example) but you can usually cover most or all of the cost with (quest) donations from people or by completing other quests. Plus, the higher prices mean that making money by trading/scavenging and looting will go further in helping you survive - if you can survive the first few days, things will calm down for a while anyway, since it never goes through such a drastic jump again.
Personally, I wish people would stop recommending new players buy food on the first day, because the jump loses most of its impact that way. That said, if you do find yourself restarting, you'll probably find that you're better at earning resources - through scavenging and trading - anyway, since you're more familiar system right from the start.
Oh, and a hint: some sidequests that need money/resources aren't strictly necessary but I'd recommend trying to complete everything you can on your first playthrough (unless you find something particularly objectionable) and there are a few times where you're offered an exorbitant price to do something, and sometimes it's necessary, but sometimes - if you're clever enough to handle the problem yourself - you can get away with not spending the money and still get a good result.
I actually like that, it gives a really frenetic feeling to melee combat because unless you're really careful even a single enemy can fuck you up.
Pretty much all of the Puppets/generic townspeople are dead, and everybody else is just waiting for the world to end, one day or another
Huh, I entirely don't remember that. Must be time for another playthrough!
>you will never get to dress up in an Executor outfit and stand outside people's houses making depressing statements about the futility of struggle
Why live?
>Could anyone tell me whats the point of living
To suffer, of course.
It's disappointing we're not getting the extended Termitiary, since I've wanted to explore it properly ever since the first time I played the game and the updated graphics would be interesting... but we're getting the extended Steppe, right? Plus, we get to see our waifus in better quality.
How long is this game?
I bought it about a year ago but never got past the first day because it was too confusing, I had like three different objectives and no idea how to progress in any of them. I thought hard mode SH2/3 and LA Noire were tricky without a guide, this was way worse and the only one that made me legitimately feel dumb. I picked it up again a few months later and it was even worse because I completely forgot what I was doing. I generally liked the atmosphere and writing, though.
Right now I'm stuck between replaying RE7 on Madhouse mode or having another go at this. I'd prefer something I can get through in a couple sittings because I'm going to be playing Nioh whenever my copy gets here.
>tfw couldn't enjoy it even though I love first person RPGs
I'm sorry Sup Forums, the pacing is horrid and the actual gameplay/combat sucks dick
actually I'm pretty sure that was the Haruspex and not the Bachelor speaking to Eva since she's still alive when the soldiers show up in his playthrough
>Pretty much all of the Puppets/generic townspeople are dead, and everybody else is just waiting for the world to end, one day or another
No, I mean puppets. They are alive, they are sitting in their homes, you just have to use lockpicks
20 hours/character more or less, depends on how much you savescum
>How long is this game?
>I'd prefer something I can get through in a couple sittings because I'm going to be playing Nioh whenever my copy gets here.
It's fairly long, but that's because the game has three distinct paths - when you start the game, you choose one of three characters, and play through the same 12 days as the character you picked. It's best just to focus on completing one character (the Bachelor is best for beginners for numerous reasons, and is what the game will recommend to you) which will take you between 20-25, maybe 30 hours of solid playtime accounting for reloads - so a good weekend, or a few days in a row.
>I bought it about a year ago but never got past the first day because it was too confusing, I had like three different objectives and no idea how to progress in any of them. I picked it up again a few months later and it was even worse because I completely forgot what I was doing.
Hahaha, Pathologic is like that, alright. Try not to be disheartened by it; it's really just a matter of learning the game's mechanics; the most important things to know would be to use your map and journal. When you bring up the map, buildings shaded in red or cream are buildings you can enter - red for plot-important buildings and peoples' houses, cream for shops; handprints on the map show you quest objectives and updates, main quests in red and sidequests in white.
Refer to your map and journal often, both to find your way around (which can be confusing to a new player, especially with the lore-heavy explanation the townspeople will give you) and to check where to go - most steps of your quest will be written down on your map or journal, and even if whoever you're speaking to gives you a confusing or unclear objective it's usually a lot clearer in your own notes.
Otherwise, it's best just to be patient and do what you can; once you're a few days in you'll get the hang of things. Best of luck, Actor.
Is the remake out yet?
Can somebody explain me the endings? Particularly the supposedly true and the 8bit pixelshit one.
Oh, and remember to check your letters and journal - if a glyph flashes at the bottom of the screen, it means you've received either a new letter or a quest update, and you can check them with 'L' and 'Q' respectively. They're sometimes plot-critical, so make sure you check them both whenever something flashes at the bottom of the screen. Going to the Theatre after midnight every day can be helpful at elucidating the plot, too.
And if you're not playing the HD Rerelease with the updated translation, you might want to try that first and come back to the original translation later. That's all I can think of for now.
Really? Maybe you just don't have the patience or taste, because I think the pacing suits the game and atmosphere really well - it feels slow but that's just a consequence of the environment. And just because the gameplay is a bit unintuitive and clunky doesn't mean that it's bad - it's not meant to be perfect and fun.
>Expecting an IPL game to be out anywhere near on time
Not yet, just the HD Rerelease of the original. We got a demo for the remake late last year, though, I think the current release date is October-November this year.
>actually I'm pretty sure that was the Haruspex and not the Bachelor speaking to Eva
That makes a lot more sense, I thought you meant the militia soldiers at first (you know, after you try and escape on the train). Still, since I can't remember it either way it's time for a new playthrough.
>No, I mean puppets. They are alive, they are sitting in their homes, you just have to use lockpicks
That's what I meant though, most of them are dead so those who're left know how fucked they are - even more so than they already were, I mean. Isn't one of their new dialogues about how they're waiting for you to 'make your choice'? I can't remember properly, sorry if I'm a bit unclear.
I think it has a strong start but then nothing happens and there's no build up.
If a game isn't fun then I don't see why I should waste time playing it, the primary function of a game is to create a fun experience. Although the atmosphere was top notch and I hope the remake feels similar
By the way, when does the game take place? It's set before the 1900's isn't it?
stairs
Slow walking.
>Find a flaw.
It;s not The Void

I swear one day, I'll replay it and ascend my original sister, Sister Death
The walking speed also made me want to cry in Pathologic holy shit
Oh come on. Both games deserves recognition.
>spoiler
Godspeed user.
>By the way, when does the game take place?
It's deliberately anachronistic. But it's more-or-less inspired by very early 20th century Russia. There are antibiotics available, soldiers with flamethrowers and a giant cannon based on Schwerer Gustav, but at the same time the town is not electrified, the non-flamethrower soldiers look straight out of WW1, feudalistic society feeling distinctly pre-revolutionary etc...
It's not supposed to be taking place in any specific time period or place, just create a general feeling of multiple ones.
>but then nothing happens and there's no build up.
You can raise a lot of problems with the game, but "nothing happens" is definitely not one of them. Very few games actually have as much happening, and as deep level of player involvement than Pathologic. It's just that it all happens on a slower scale than you are used to.
>If a game isn't fun then I don't see why I should waste time playing it, the primary function of a game is to create a fun experience.
Well, no. That is actually the precise assumption IPL are deliberately trying to challenge. Fuck, they made an entire SATIRE GAME about the stupidity of the assumption that games are supposed to be fun.
The point of IPL games is that games are supposed to be a meaningful and cathartic experience. But not necessarily a fun one. In fact, IPL are most comfortable actively torturing their players.
Pathologic does get gradually more involving and becomes eventually incredibly immersive and rewarding. Once you reach a certain threshold, it's pretty hard to actually get away from it and stop playing it.
But it's NOT FUN. Not at any fucking level. It's not fun just like greek tragedy, or a noh play, or Kafka or fucking Dostojevskij aren't fun, because all of those aim to be much more. And to achieve something more, you first need to sacrifice something, and the audience must be willing to bite something down as well.
you walk too fucking slow and there's no fast travel
>The walking speed also made me want to cry in Pathologic holy shit
i never get this. i mean i know it's a legit complaint but it felt pretty fast to me.
>actual gameplay/combat sucks dick
The fact that you identify the gameplay with the combat might be not only why you are not understanding how the game works, but also a sign of a general, serious problem of the industry.
I used to shit talk Pathologic all the time on Sup Forums
I would call it a walking simulator, a try hard piece of trash that thinks its war and peace and all other sorts of shit.
Then I got bored and there was a thread of Pathologic, I was convinced to give it another go, at least the first few days.
I have to see the 1st day was generally ass as the Bachelor but the end of day 1 and the next day and so on it got insanely better.
So whenever there is a Pathologic thread I always feel the need to say sorry to the anons who love this game because they made me love it to and it is a fucking awesome game.
...
Is the game really a pain in the ass and cryptic to complete without guides?
>MFW on that day were shit is going down all day I just beat the last part of the main story with 5 mins left on the clock
>Godspeed user
I'LL DO IT
Since I can draw donor consistently, I'm already leaps an bounds amongst all the other players
All I want to do is cure the plague
They need to move fucking faster or else I won't be able to raid lockpick'd houses at the end of the day
>primary function of a game is to create a fun experience
i think it's to be "compelling". and the void and pathologic are great examples, for me, of games which are compelling but not exactly "fun". the void is fairly painful, in fact...
and what do you mean there's no build up? i thought it did buildup extremely well. there were so many characters and things going on, and each step led to a few more clues, questions, and answers. it's one of the few games that has had me actually invested in the story and continuously surprised at new events in the plot.
no? who said that?
>dialog options where you can mock women on the street for thinking they work hard
The accusations of IPL games (both Pathologic and even more The Void) are growing more and more common as the stupidity of Feminism spreads and with it the equally stupid assumption that anything glorifying femininity is feminist (even though the reality is exactly the opposite).
Both Pathologic and The Void do actually celebrate femininity a LOT. As you learn more and more about the town in Pathologic, you'll slowly grow to realize that it's actually the women, the mistresses, rather than the men who are REALLY running the damn show. Plus, the huge number of really well written characters results in a situation where there are unavoidably going to be several of them not conforming to the same set of stereotypes.
The Void is even "worse" as that game's "default" ending has literally player just working his arse off to free a damsel in distress who usually does not even look like she appreciates it.
But neither of this is actually "SJW" or feminist, it's really just the original, traditional perspective on male and female roles. The thing captured in the old "If man is the head of household, then woman is the neck that turns it" saying, the old stories of chivalry and knight-hood, the old female mysticism: the simple reality that in traditional genre perspective, femininity itself is something to value, protect, something to be amazed by.
It's actually sad that this shit has been so damn muddle these days, and it's fucking sad that so many people are getting gradually more jadded and just actually misogynist, rather than just rejecting the already misogynist premises of modern-generation feminism.
/rant. Sorry about that.
Played Path and liked it but is the void worth playing?
Also aren't they remaking Pathologic?
>Played Path and liked it
For a second, I thought you were actually saying that you played "The Path", the Tale-of-tales piece of garbage and was about to go on a rant how shitty that damn game was.
>but is the void worth playing?
Definitely. I never liked The Void quite as much as Pathologic, mostly because of it's more abstract and surreal nature, which just does not work as well for me as the much more grounded, character-based Pathologic, but it's still absolutely unique and fascinating, clever and beautiful game.
But it is an IPL game, so expect... not to be treated very well by the game. It's even more unintuitive, confusing and also harder than Pathologic. I can't promise that you'll enjoy it.
But I can assure you that it's well worth giving it a try.
>Also aren't they remaking Pathologic?
Yep, they had been working on the remake for some two years now, and the anticipated release date for it is late fall 2017. Though in all honestly, I'd be surprised if they make it in time, and/or anticipate a very unfinished and unpolished release.
It's all good. Plenty of people went through that.
Build up takes too long and at no point did I feel invested because everyone speaks in riddles and treats you like ass
Its compelling sure but the game is a fucking slog
"""Challenging""" ideas isn't really an excuse, IPL can do what they want but that doesn't mean I can't tell them that their challenging of my ideas of what a game should be is an asshat thing to do
Seconded entirely, since this user is a lot more eloquent than I am.
I'm glad you gave it another go and came to enjoy it, user.
I agree. Do you think when the remake is released it will garner more criticism, or it'll remain niche enough that it'll avoid it? I know there's a few pseudo-feminist 'critiques' out there, but as far as I know they've mostly been ignored.
>but is the void worth playing?
Yes.
everyone
That's okay.
Well, while we're at it, I'd like to thank the person on Sup Forums who indirectly got me into The Void and Pathologic.
It was a "post obscure screenshot, and guess the game" thread, years ago. Someone posted a loading screen from The Void. I thought it looked kind of interesting. Someone else may have posted what it was with another screenshot, I don't remember. But I decided to look it up, and I saw Pathologic as well. I just saw a few screenshots of them both and thought they looked cool, so I went and pirated them. And well, they were off-putting at first, but I couldn't stop playing them.
The Void is definitely worth playing. It's a fairly different, and more difficult, game. In a way I typically agree with the other user, The Void is abstract in a way that I normally imagine I'd find it difficult to "anchor" myself in it as well as something like Pathologic. But I loved it. In an emotional way, I found it more touching and personal than Pathologic.
And they are indeed remaking Pathologic, or rather "reimagining" it.
Pretty sure it's not any faster to walk diagonally, unless you just mean taking the fastest route.
Awesome.
I think I also heard they made some changes so it will not be the same game and apparently you walk even slower to its more tense on time, fuck I dont think I can take it as I think it was day 3 or 4 you have so little time to fuck up and I fell for the red herring clues.
Still need to be Pathologic, im on day 8 I think?, the powers that be just arrived and im at the start of the day but I took a break from it because it was getting fucking insanely hard.
mega.nz
Here you guys go. Enjoy, it's a great demo
it's faster. just slightly because sidestepping is pretty slow compared to moving forward, but they don't account for the overlapping inputs so the speed of multiple inputs just adds up.
marble nest is pretty damn slow in terms of movement speed. but it's just an early, early alpha. extremely unfinished. there was an unused stamina meter and lots of stuff. so right now we have no idea really what movement and pacing and whatever else will be like
I'm just happy you discovered the game user
its completely doable without any guides
Blood samples won't work under microscope? Dunno what to do, game is really vague.
Not hating, I enjoyed what I played.
Pls respond
>"""Challenging""" ideas isn't really an excuse
It's not an excuse, it's fact. And a valuable quality of the game.
The problem is not with the game. The problem is with you: you lack the patience and the will to let yourself be challenged in this particular way.
Now, let me make this clear: You have no obligation (except, arguably, to yourself) to be patient and to challenge yourself in your own leisure time. It's time you have yourself and have complete freedom to chose how spend it. And if you don't want to spend it challenging yourself with games like Pathologic, that is a completely fair decision.
But it's YOU who lack the patience, not the game doing something wrong. I mean: Pathologic does do a LOT of other things wrong - the combat, the broken stealth, the lack of proper explanations, numerous technical flaws, all of those can't be attributed to coherent artistic vision. The slow pace however, can: it's INTEGRAL in what the game aims to do. And as many others will confirm, it ultimately succeeds, in fact it leads to experience that - while inaccessible to people like you - is almost life-changing and incredibly powerful to those who have the patience to reach it. It's like the difficulty in Dark Souls: it's a functional aspect of the game, it's as integral as the art direction, music or writing: it's as important to this game as good shooting mechanics are important to a good shooter.
Don't mistake your own attitude and personality for the game's fault. If you can't enjoy Pathologic, fine. It's not a game to be enjoyed by majority of people.
But don't blame the game for it. Because it's something that is a question of your own attitude, not the game's intention and design. It offers a functional product: you only have to ask yourself if that is the kind of product you are looking for.
Just because weren't looking for that product yourself, does not mean it's bad.
>is almost life-changing and incredibly powerful
honestly that sounds like bullshit
but it's not
>they made an entire SATIRE GAME about the stupidity of the assumption that games are supposed to be fun.
Eh?
I had a moment when I broke into someones house because I had no food or drink.
So I snuck in, started stealing shit but got caught and had to shoot the two men in the house.
Then a young kid runs at me full tilt and starts punching me as well and I had to shoot him as well.
After that I just stood there, looking at the crackers on the desk, the crying and cowering women and the three dead bodies and it hit me.
I broke into this house because I had no food to steal what little they had and when they tried to stop me from taking the meager food they did have I killed 2 people and a kid to get their food.
I didnt want to do it but I felt I had no choice and desperation to live forced me to do something highly fucked up and outright wrong.
Pathologic and This War of Mine are the only games that ever made me feel like that and that is powerful.
I know its my fault user thats what I originally said. Games are a subjective medium however and I'm entitled to thank that Ice Pick Lodge aren't wise designers as a direct result of their actions.
However I do commend them as we need more niche games like this
Well said. It's a game that's only for certain kinds of people.
Cargo
>mfw
Pretty much the same thing happened to me
Game sorta requires a guide and if you don't do some of the required side quests you are doomed to get the bad ending
>Do you think when the remake is released it will garner more criticism,
Hard to say. But considering how little damn coverage the game has been getting (even the release of Marble Nest was actually not reflected AT ALL in media, which I find rather disturbing), I think it will remain largely too niche for anyone to acknowledge it. The "SJW's are very pragmatic in their choices of games-to-attack, they base it largely on the amount of assumed impact they will have. Criticizing games that 99% of their readers won't play or know about anyway is a waste of time for them.
Also, things are getting increasingly muddled. I've recently found a rather hillarious article which actually argues that The Void is a perfect feminist game. Now, this would be less hilarious if some ten years ago, there wasn't a reasonably large controversy after an article that BLASTED the game as one of the most disturbingly misogynist and despicable games of all time. The point here being: both sides will ultimately be able to find whatever fits their own narrative and political views in the game if they'll want: mostly because IPL games are complex and multi-dimensional, allowing you to find confirmations of whatever you want just by being selective about your interpretation.
Things have been also changing in the journalism itself. It feels like the distinct political groups are starting to close themselves in more and more, and that the SJW attitudes are becoming less of an ubiquous shit, and more of a certain-site-domain thing. Take a look at RPS, which back in the height of Anita controversy was ON PAR WITH POLYGON, and nowdays cracks jokes at the oversensitive gender politics light-heartedly.
Finally, I actually think a bit of a controversy could potentially actually benefit the game. The amount of coverage it's getting is pitifull. Bad publicity, also publicity and IPL could use all the help they can get.
How does it require a guide?
