The Stretch Goals of PoE2; they're not stretch goals, they're features which are in the game in the first place

The Stretch Goals of PoE2; they're not stretch goals, they're features which are in the game in the first place.

This campaign is quite simply pre-order but sugar coated as a crowdfunding effort.

Generally, online communities have been frowning on preorders for a while now. On the other hand, Obsidian banks on publicity spawning from social media and website like Reddit to spread the word about their game. Crowdfunding is appreciated while pre-orders are not.

I do think that most of the goals up to now have been features which was already planned into the game in the first place. This is further emphasis by the reluctance of Obsidian to share more than two at a time (at first it was the current goal only). They've said it several times through interviews and their own social channel that they're better prepared this time than PoE, so why not showing the goals?

The idea behind not showing all the goals at once is due to the fact that since the goals are already features, they would not have to roll back those features or look fishy when the features are already in the game even if they were not reached. With the current scheme, the latest goal that's not going to be funded will probably end up in the game anyway and the developer gonna be all "well, we thought that might as well add it."

The number of companion did not sound originally sound too low? The AI feature was not already improved in White March? Ambiguous double VO?

Stretch goal added companion, lets you know that further improved AI will be implemented and, well, there will be double the VO (we don't know their original intent, we can't quantify what we never knew in the first place).

Deadfire is building upon the foundation of PoE. I feel PoE2 should, by default, be daring and one up its predecessor.

Is it gonna be good tho?

duh

Why are they making a KS for a sequel to KS game?
Isn't that what the money from the first game is meant to be used for?
Or do they know idiot consumers will lap this shit up?

Saywer says he "learned" from the mistakes of PoE. He didn't.
PoE2 is going to be garbage. PoE is garbgage.

/thread

Eh, probably better than PoE1, but worse than WM. After whatever patches and expansions they roll out it will probably be decent.

Obviously. PoE sold millions at 100% profit. They could fund it several times over.

The former would require risking their own money, which they have no reason to do when others are willing to risk theirs.

Was WM that good?

If the numbers they're giving their investors are accurate, it didn't even break a million. Also if those numbers are true it sold pathetically on GoG, which seems about right.

Yeah, way better than the core game imo, but then again if you thought the core game was shite then that's not saying much.

Didn't the game sell enough to save the company from bankruptcy, though?

Nyah!

What is profit?

You are aware that people who work on this need to get paid, right?

Why don't you want to play Josh's buggy game that he tweaks the balance of every ten minutes instead of fixing it?

Well, le balance man already did a video explaining his brilliant balance decisions so say goodbye to any experimentation trying to find some amazing class combo because everything is going to be equally dull and viable

Why the hell should I be paying for Korean?

They originally had the $2.4m goal be "Raise the level cap to 20"

I don't care if it's fluff or a backer goal or whatever, I want my level cap set to 20 and I want 8 companions total AT LEAST. Don't have less companions than the first game did.

Also, they took out the "Berath's Blessing" goal because apparently they want to change some shit up?

For people who had this game in pre-production for a year, their crowdfunding campaign looks rushed as fuck.

Are you in every PoE thread?

We've decided to disable any multiclass combinations that would be too powerful. We have to maintain balance. :^)

Tried to play POE once

Bored to tears immediately, combat was terrible, environments looked like shit, fuck all rping

>Single-class chads are more powerful than multi-class shitters
As it should be. Based Sawyerino pleasing muh Autismo.

We've decided to disable all classes but fighter.
Please look forward to the balance.

You quite rightly shouldn't.

Good news is user that that specific level cap will be in the game regardless even if people stopped donating right now.

>fuck all rping
Care to elaborate?

You mean that we have to write actual characters instead of just monologues and expositions about lore unrelated to the story at hand?
Wow, you must be one of those D&D fanboys who hate the game irrationally.

>environments looked like shit

Selling a million is really good when your game only cost 3 million to make anyway. Fig's estimate for average lifetime purchase price including sales/discounts/fees is 23.6 dollars per copy. ~900,000 copies means they made over 21 million dollars minus the 3 million dollars the game "cost" to make (who knows how much less or more than that they actually spent). Plus getting all the money up-front to develop means their team had guaranteed jobs for a couple years regardless of the end product.

But that's not gonna happen. People are gonna keep donating, and hopefully Obsidian will share a few stretch goals that aren't shit in the meantime.

>combat was terrible

Kinda right.

>environments looked like shit

Here's where you're wrong, though.

They fucked up with the poe1 ks and made their stretchgoals too ambitious. I guess they learned their lesson.

If the post is right then it doesn't matter if they share it or not, it's already a part of the game regardless.

I have a feeling rogue is going to get shit on because of this. Way too strong offensive and defensive passives for no investment. Every class would want them.

Environments were gr8, the player models just contrasted badly.

This priest guy looks pretty fukcing cool though. Can't wait to make him suck my big aumaua dong.

Who is this, some secret boss?

Yeah, but with more money, Obsidian has less financial risk, which allows them to be more flexible and make the game better.

Or, OR, pucket the money into their pockets.

Says on the crowdfuding shakedown page that it's an enemy you'll meet in these desert ruins.

I'm starting to question the sanity of this particular ancient civilization.

Obviously, a fairly large part of that money will be spent on salaries, so yes, you're literally right. But the rest will be spent on improving the game.

What was your past life's relationship with her?

Well generally civs that wiped themselves out seem to go about bonkers near their end of times. I imagine they were trying to challenge the gods or some shit and ended up invoking there wrath.

>The heart of this country has skipped a beat. Nothing more. I have done far worse. I plunged the peaceful kingdom of Tolosus into civil war. I slew the monarch of Desontio, whose people never knew hardship under his rule, and replaced him with a cruel despot who brought them to ruin. When plague arrived at the great city of Arborensis, I saw to it that the cure did not. They piled their dead outside the city in heaps that rose above their walls. ... Their histories are droplets of water falling into an endless sea. They are significant unto themselves for a moment, and then they are gone.

Was he right?

But user, Engwithans are the ones who made the gods

Lovers, of course
>TFW your past self was retarded and cucked itself out of sweet elven qt because of religious propaganda

Help, I just want a party based RPG that will bring back memories of Baldurs gate and dragon age: origins

PoE was shit
Wasteland 2 was meh
Divinity OS was a good game, but not quite in the vein I'm looking for

why aren't modern day cRPGs as good?

Naw, the opposite in fact. They committed nationwide suicide to keep it secret that the gods were artificial.

>Russian localization
I'd pay 1.2 million dollars for them to remove this

I mean, it's not terrible or anything, but it's just a lich priest. Every fantasy setting is bound to have one with an almost identical design.

I'll probably get into PoE one of these days. Maybe.

He's probably one of the wrongest villains ever.

I still didn't play the first one, how much would be with the expansions during next sale?

For love, of course.

>Was he right?
No. Fuck that guy.

>dragon age: origins

Do not remind me what was lost. Never seen a series plummet in quality so fast in its sequels.

20 bucks or so, I imagine.

REMOVE PoE remove poe

Play Mass Effect or Jade Empire if it's late-classical Bioware vibes you're after.

After DA:O it's all nuBioware.

I'd say their stretch goals are actually really clever. Firstly; they're not major additions and something that's clearly in their scope so they won't have to bend backwards to include them or get pounded when they don't, for that loon at Numenera, and secondly it immediately engages the language group that wants to see the game localized. It's really no wonder though considering their first KS was a masterfully handled.

I get why they want to avoid promising a 15 level mega dungeon completely disconnected from the plot and a second ""city"" they didn't need.
But why so few companions?

Why aren't falseflagging posts just bannable yet?

So what you saying is, that all the goals are just there for the sake's being goals? And the goals are so simplistic that there's no way the can shot themselves in the foot later on?

Funny how Od Nua became an intergral part of the plot in the sequel.

>muh infinity engine nostalgia fanwankery

you're the reason the industry doesnt move forward

play a good, fresh RPG like divinity original sin or age of decadence

Because they want to make them all ultra-reactive to everything that's gonna happen, which is a shame.

I wouldn't mind a few extra companions that aren't very reactive but are cool and have their own small dialogue and shit. Not everyone needs to be this extensively explored character with multiple endings and shit.

He is basically that type of atheist that hates other atheists because he believes that without religion civilization would collapse.
A Sup Forums poster with power and low body fat %

Now you're getting it user.

I think the lowest its been on Steam is 18 dollars. Expansion sale was 15 for both. So 33 for everything.

>divinity original sin
Good combat, awful in every other department, gets boring real fast.

>age of decadence
Complete trash, should have been a CYOA book.

How about this character as my first potd run:

>human paladin
>gold autist order
>low might and con
>medium del
>very high per, res and int
>aura juggernaut with shield and spear
>stoic as fuck

How do I pair him? Which companions?

That actually made sense and a great move for this whole KS shenanigans. I just realized that most KS shit are fucked by the goals.

The industry did move forward, and it was shit. We need to go back before we can move forward in a positive direciton

Edér, Aloth, Durance, Sagani and Pallegina

serpent in the staglands, lords of xulima, neo scavenger, expeditions conquistador, underrail

It doesn't fucking matter. Write this shit on a piece of paper then close your eyes and throw some darts.

What would you prefer; Soft goals that are meet as in PoE2 or lofty goals that will be disregarded as in Numenera?

Now, you're talking. Why did you wait until the second post to name the good games?

I haven't played Neo Scavenger yet, thought it wasn't out.

I'd dump dex for CON if you expect to take any kind of hits.

And that money comes from the sales of the previous game.
That's how sequels work. If a game makes no money it doesn't get a sequel because there's no money to make it with.
Scummy """"""indie"""""" devs milking their fans for all their worth. Literally the cancer of the industry.

read through this wall of text and then make your character or trash the game like it deserves to be

rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=9867

In either case you end up with nothing, so.

Lofty goals that were achieved like in PoE 1

that reminds me, how does Numenera look? with how disappointing most kickstarter rpgs have been I haven't been keeping track.

If you want to suck, go for it.

Switch out per for might, and you might be alright.

Good party for you would be: Eder, Aloth, Hiravias, Durance.

You could double up on auras with Pallegina. I almost always make a rogue companion before going into the Temple of Eothas, as well.

>I haven't played Neo Scavenger yet, thought it wasn't out.
get on it then

>If a game makes no money it doesn't get a sequel because there's no money to make it with.
Yeah, except I want a sequel to Pillars of Eternity and am willing to pay them upfront for it. Pretty simple, really.

Duly noted, thanks mates.

Game is supposed to come out in a month or two, but the game has been pushed back for what seems like several years so who knows?

it comes out in exactly 3 weeks and its probably gonna be crap

It's coming out on the 28, user. They cut a few stretch goals to make it happen.

>Begin a new game with gifted bonuses
What did Josh mean by this?

How much we talking here, half the promises or some translation shit?

Don't really like the idea of new game plus

Probably like the cloak/pig/whatever that came with the original game.

Generally a customer pays to receive a product, not to fund it.
KS is the cesspool of idiocy.
>We're a shitty no-name developer with no experience
Or
>We're a highly successful group of people with lots of money but don't want to take a risk so give us money
And people like you do. Paying over the odds in the hopes that a game will be good.
Epitome of shitty consumers.

This critique was about a very early version of the game though.

Did anything significant change? I haven't played the game since the first few weeks it was out. A lot of the complaints seem to be about core mechanics.

If someone else bothers releasing infinite-engine style games, I'll be up there to buy them. So far, I'm doing pretty well with my PoE gambit, considering the first game was great.

Why gook of all things? Is there really a market for isometric single player wRPGs there?

I was disappointed at the core product, but the following content has indeed improved the game, by enough of a margin for you to buy it? I dunno.
