I'm making a game for PC and I, as a mouse & keyboard player...

I'm making a game for PC and I, as a mouse & keyboard player, want to ask Sup Forums's controller players what they think the general "run" button is, or, specifically, what button is equivalent to "Shift" on the controller.

TL;DR what's the controller's run button

Pic unrelated

That's actually a really good question, what the fuck.

Moving the stick as far as it goes, usually. It's the big advantage controllers have over KB+M, the stick allows for far greater directional control and also how fast your character moves.

If you mean like a sprint command, then I guess it would probably be LB or LT.

Okay, that's what I was looking for. Thanks.

A lot of games make the run button pushing the left stick in, sorry i'm not sure what it's called.

Good luck.

L3

L3 for sure

Can't go wrong with L3.

pushing the left stick all the way forward and pushing it in at the same time is normally the run button for alot of games.

Usually called "L3", when you press the stick until it clicks.

It sucks though, because it makes controlling the stick harder. Then again I guess it fits for sprinting, but I always feel like I'm pressing too hard and damaging it.

right trigger worked well in mad max

but it is almost always L3

It is a toggle in most games that come to mind.

I don't think I've played those games, any examples?

>toggle sprinting
There's probably a shitton but the only one I can think of right now is S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and that's PC only. What games do toggle sprinting?

I think it works better left instead of right trigger due to how in controllers, the left hand controls movement and the right hand controls actions.

But it works either way.

If the game involves guns, right trigger is almost always fire weapon and so running should be left trigger

>L3 retards
>preferring to click the stick and awkwardly directing it at the same time
>all while R2 exists
I think you guys play mainstream western games. Am I not wrong?

>R2
>When L2 Exists
Dude.

analog stick slightly to walk, analog stick all the way to run.

>awkwardly directing
I would wager you don't play very many games at all if you find it awkward. R2 is for weapon selection.

the start button

MGS V
The Division
Resident Evil 7

Pretty much every, somewhat modern, first person shooter on consoles has sprint toggle on L3, and I'll go as far as any game that has sprint bound to L3 either offers to make it a toggle or it's the default.
But off the top of my head, from the recent games I've played there's For Honor, Dragon's Dogma and Dying Light who all have sprint toggle on L3.

L3 is the only answer

>Dragon's Dogma
You're right.
I hate it on L3 though.

Plus I play DD on m+k since I play archer.

I don't mind sprint on L3 at all.
What I fucking hate on stick buttons is jumping in DS2 and 3 and switching lock on target in For Honor.
Since I get so tense during multiplayer I tend to press the sticks by mistake quite a bit specially when I'm moving for one edge of the stick to the opposite side.
Which leads me to jumping off the pvp bridge in DS2 when I'm trying to do a sick sprinting 180, or switching lock on in for Honor when I'm trying to block consecutive left and right attacks.

>Jumping
Yeah, I have no idea who approved that shite. At least you can change it because God DAMN was that shitty.

the run button is left stick in or a bumper but left stick in is the best out of all of them as a 360 controller player

Why would anyone ever not put jump on Xbox A?

ever heard of fallout?

A game with no jumps?

maybe skyrim? cuz they have Y as the jump and A as the interact button

Toggle on pressing left analogue stick, toggle off on character stopping.

That's fucking stupid, as stupid as playing Skyrim without a mouse+KB.

X or B
A is for jumping

only emo's play with a mouse+KB because it will give you wrist problem's but you probably already have some wrist issues from cutting so much.

>Sprint on the face buttons

>Babbies only talk about kiddie point & shooty

In an action game or plateformer sprint should be on face buttons. Hell, if your game requires more imputs than there is buttons it probably sucks

No it's not.

It's when you push in L3. Like almost all games

The only game genre where sprint on the face buttons is acceptable is 2D platformers, in which case the "Mario" solution of holding the attack button = sprinting is acceptable.

It's the same for Dark Souls

Dark souls has jump on L3 it's fucking stupid.

>shit game has shit button layout
wooow

The question was for sprint not jump, and you can put jump back to B in the options, like in the first one (because yes L3 is fucking stupid)

Dark Souls has it on circle, II and III both have the option to switch between L3 and circle.

The point is the control scheme for Dark Souls isn't that great, so it's hardly exemplary.

How is it not? It's a pretty good control scheme.

Jump button for Dark Souls is X (or L3 in 2 and 3 if you prefer that).
Of course in some idiot countries they switch X and O functions for no good reason, so that might make someone claim that O is the jump button, but canonically it's X.
