>I'M FROM THE M, I, CROOKED LETTER, CROOKED LETTER, I, CROOKED LETTER, CROOKED LETTER, I, HUMPBACK HUMPBACK, I MAKE EM ALL DIE!
What did he mean by this?

That game was fucking incredible. Specially local multiplayer.

IMMA RIP YO TONGUE OUT, AND LICK MAH AAASS WIDDIT

It was during the gold days Japan developed wrestling games for american publishers, of course it was fucking incredible.

Then came Def Jam Icon (not made by nips) and fucked everything up.

>fighting games starring hip hop musicians

Mississippi

How surprinsgly great they were (except Icon), Fight for NY is easily one of the top five wrestling games ever made.

I'm gonna take your life, and your money

Why was Snoop Dogg ç playing a character instead of himself like everyone else?

I'm surprised no one ever made a spiritual successor to this. Such a simple yet fun combat system should be easily immitatable.

The Takeover was better than Fight for New York.

They're both still the greatest wrestling games of all time though.

Pretty sure the Def Jam series cost a lot in contracts alone with the multi millionare rap stars, so only some company as big as EA could afford it.

Other companies with as much money probably aren't interested.

Because then he'd just be smoking weed and not taking shit over.

I think he meant a street fighting game with the same combat.

>The Takeover was better than Fight for New York.
Your reasoning for that being?

Fighting for NY was a natural improvement for pretty much everything.

I don't think half the rappers in the game are as badass in real life as they were in the game, Snoop could be the same character just going with his own name.

Snoop was pretty much playing himself though, he just had a different name.

>Such a simple yet fun combat system should be easily immitatable.
Only superior japanese developers with skills folded a thousand times could make them, wrestling games are pretty much dead with only 2K releasing the same thing every year.

Hey baby, you should have seen me there tonight OOOHHHH

I might have missed the phase in Snoop's career where he used black leather like that villain from Highlander

The Takover was the psp spin off port. It was the same game but it adding some neat things like territory battles.

C O M P

There were a lot of rappers that were previous gang bangers, snoop was. But once they start making money and getting famous they stop because gangbanging is retarded

Yeah that freight train that hit you! That was ME!

>tfw a hay maker KO punch is the most satisfying hit in video games

>>tfw a hay maker KO punch is the most satisfying

Not really after the 3rd time you slip in a cheap haymaker or get a cheap haymaker done on you.

I know some of them were real thugs, I meant badass as in they certainly were not martial arts masters in real life, Snoop is a fucking chinese kung fu practioner and the final boss for crying out loud.

HARDER THAN METAL

HARDER THAN BRICK

lmao oh yeah

of course its bullshit

Nah man
>slam opponent down
>their health is barely there
>you pick them up and cock back
Feels so good

>implying The Ghostface Killah and Method Man don't know Wu-Tang karate

>Why was Snoop Dogg ç playing a character instead of himself like everyone else?

Most of the other rappers who were characters in the story were playing a character. Red Man was Doc, Method Man was Blaze, Snoop was Crow, Fat Joe was Crack.

It was the rappers who were more minor characters that kept their rap aliases.

I remember many Blazin finishers being really brutal, seriously some could easily be fatalities.

dmx in Vendetta broke all your limbs in a really nasty way, maybe it was too brutal to appear again in Fight for NY even with another character.

Not that bad really.
My favorites were where you use a guy as a jump rope and another as a pogo stick

>Finally stand up for your homies after you fuck them over with 0 explanation
> Method Man is at half health
>Versus David fucking Banner who is way stronger and faster than he has any right to be and a big nigga named Bone Crusher who does nothing but suplex you

But that's just cartoony stuff, not brutal.

>only way to max out your character is not losing a single fight on the hardest difficulty

wait bone crusher was in ffny?
fuck i need to replay this again
I AINT NEVA SCARED

Dammit I gotta play this game again. Luckily I still have my hacked PSP around. GOAT system 2bh.

That's why I said spiritual successor, ya dingus. It doesn't even need to have a hip-hop/rap aesthetic; I would prefer if it to have a regular martial arts movie aesthetic.

>The steel cage match with Fat Joe

>You never make enough money to buy everything

This really fucked with my 100% completion needs.

I still remember the really hard crotch kick

First you would have to get japan interested in making wrestling games again, a spiritual successor with just another developer or fans of the original games just wouldn't be the same.

The Xzbit' one?

His song made that match

SO I'M OUTSIDE OF THE CLUB AND YOU THINK I'M A PUUUNK

>Playing through the game with a friend
>Get to that fight
>Look at Fat Joe's stats
>"Look dude his speed is shit. This shouldn't be too bad"
>Match starts
>Fat Joe immediately bolts across the ring and decks him in the face making him flop against the cage

Good times

Yeah and that fight was annoying as hell since they both are part wrestlers. If they KO Blaze before you have a chance to knock out one of them they'll just chain grab you to death.

DDT
And the half your green health was gone

>I would prefer if it to have a regular martial arts movie aesthetic.

Where the fuck is the fun in that? The mechanics of wrestling games aren't particularly interesting or deep. The interest comes from the recognizable characters.

The only reason people remember these games was because of the AKI engine .

I guess that explains why Def Jam: Icon was so popular right?

Yo like this and like this and like that. And like this and uh... like that? Yeah.

>fighting any characters that has wrestling for their main styles

STOP GRAPPLING ME FUCK

>playing on highest difficulty
>he counters FUCKING EVERYTHING even at low stamina
>one of his grabs takes off like half your fucking health
Took me like five fucking tries the first time. Hardest fight in the game except that 2v2 at the end where Blaze basically starts off dead so you either have to go out of your way to defend him or it turns into a 1v2 real quick.

Also this.

Best super moves in any fighting game

>The only reason people remember these games was because of the AKI engine .

And yet most people in the thread are talking about the characters and spouting lines from the soundtrack.

>I guess that explains why Def Jam: Icon was so popular right?
Despite it's dogshit fighting it still received a decent reception.

What other games on your precious AKI Engine still get talked about as much as Def Jam:FFNY?

IMMA CUT YOUR EYES OUT AND PUT THEM ON MY KNEES, AND CALL YOU KNEE-SEE

No Mercy
Wrestlemania 2000
WCW vs NWO
Virtual Pro Wrestling 2

WWF No Mercy

Is it not backwards compatible for some contractual reason? Used to play the shit out of this back in the day. Snoop was OP, my friend always played as Crack, I liked Sticky Fingaz and Jarvis.

One of the only reasons why I'm still holding on to my Xbawks Hueg

I don't know, but that's entirely possible. Games like this tend to be an absolute nightmare when it comes to licenses.

Like the original license didn't include the rights for next-gen consoles that didn't exist back then, so then they need to get a new license which means they have to get approval from everyone who's in it, and they're probably no longer all with the same label so you can't do an easy package deal, or some shit like that.

>N64/PS1 games on the same engine as PS2/Gamecube/Xbox Games

>No one ever talks about these games of have threads dedicated to them

>tfw losing the wrong fight

>No one ever talks about these games
Are you serious right now? They're the only games people talk about when they talk about wrestling games. Please stop shitposting.

>They're the only games people talk about when they talk about wrestling games.

And only when they talk about wrestling games as a whole.

People talk about Def Jam when they want to talk about Def Jam.

>N64/PS1 games on the same engine as PS2/Gamecube/Xbox Games
It did you dumb shit

>No one ever talks about these games of have threads dedicated to them
>threads on Sup Forums are an indicator on how popular something is

let's settle this, Sup Forums

Omar Epps or Ice-T?

>It did you dumb shit
[Citation Needed]

>>threads on Sup Forums are an indicator on how popular something is
By what metric are you measuring popularity then?

Face it,the other games you mentioned might be good but no one talks about them unless they're specifically talking about wrestling games. Def Jam is capable of being discussed on it's own because of its crossover appeal.

Never again

Also kimura best girl

Ice-T, for life.

I forgot how we have daily discussions about Def Jam. Def Jam and No Mercy get about equal amount of discussion and they're both talked about in the same conversations.

>EENIE ME MEENIE MEENIE MINNINIE MO

ICEBERG just sounds too badass to not have on your side.

Nobody knows that the PSP version is actually the best one.

>rebalancing
>no more streetfighting OHKOs
>mounts
>random intros with more brawling thuggery that affected fights

Best super attack animations, choreography and sound effects of the history.
Best environmetal attacks too
>slamming car doors on fools' heads

The PSP Yakuza games use Def Jam battle system and animations.

I won a tourney for this at at a side tourney at magfest once

Ask me anything about competitive FFNY

Modding could do what Icon and licensing issues can't. I'd kill for a game with non-Def Jam artists.

Ice-T every time, he's the original gangster.

I liked the way they made the style system way better as well, not you can end up with all sorts of fighting styles since you can choose a style more than once.

>he counters FUCKING EVERYTHING even at low stamina
and then you discover that you can COUNTER COUNTERS in this fucking game

it's neat how you can just pick 2 styles and not be underpowered/with less options than those who pick 3

submission is good or not?

>A sequel to Electronic Arts' WCW Mayhem titled WCW 2000 and later, WCW Mayhem 2 was going to be developed by AKI and was planned for a PlayStation 2 release. There were even some screenshots in Issue #33 (May 2000) of the Official PlayStation Magazine. However, it was also shelved in 2001 after the World Wrestling Federation bought World Championship Wrestling. The engine of this game would later be recycled for Def Jam Vendetta.
Face it, the games were popular for their great gameplay.

YOU WILL BE DESTROYED
YOU
WILL BE
DESTROYED
HAHAHAHAHHA

Submission is OK since it completly ignores the red health threshold for KOs but its normals are lacking

Submission/Martial arts is a good mix due to extended counter window from martial arts. Ice T is a very good submission char for example

There was a fun as fuck beat-em-up with Wu Tang Clan back in PlayStation.

What's the best styles?

>it still received a decent reception.
In what alternate reality? Icon was trashed from all sides when it dropped.

Beat em up? I recall it being an arena fighter, it even had the same engine that was used to make the famous cancelled game Thrill Kill.

Best to woest

Streetfighting=Kickboxing>Submission>Martial arts>Wrestling

All 5 are tourney viable however

Same shit.

Who did you play as?

Was Suspect banned?
Icon proves that wrong. Nobody wants to play a mediocre fighting game featuring rappers. People want a fun game, the hip-hop shit is just a bonus.

MA is usually my base thanks to the counter, yeah
I like kickbox but I can't counter for shit in that style

wasn't that on the OG xbox too?

Joe budden and bonecrusher

Suspext, sticky fingers, crow and crazy legs were banned

why is sticky and crazy legs banned?

Sticky fingers has a million Hp and takes forever to KO. Also has the best haymaker

Crazy legs i forgot. I think he has an infinite with kicks
