It successfully modernized a franchise stuck in a downward spiral, while still managing to retain what was so great about it in the first place.

What makes RE7 so good is that it isn't "Member Resident Evil?", it geniunely feels like Resident Evil as if it was created today. It invokes the spirit of what Resident Evil was when it first came out, a love letter to classic American Horror movies.

Reinvigorates the franchise by taking it in a completely new direction, in the same way that RE4 did 12 years ago.

Its the worst ending that leads to Ethan being depressed. And also makes zero sense because Mia magically shows up at the boat to help Ethan escape at the cost of her life anyway.

Don't know what happened in the threads after the demo expanded, decided to save it all until I got the game.

If RE kept on being an FPS series, would you be okay with it? It was a third person shooter for about a decade, then over the shoulder for another. Is this the beginning of the RE FPS decade?

How do you know they weren't better? Making stuff up doesn't help either way. Yeah he went to find her, then he finds out she lied to him for years and had a hand in causing an outbreak of a BOW she was transporting. Those kind of things aren't really the foundation of a good relationship.

If and only if they focus on what made RE7 a success and don't turn it into just another FPS. I'm talking much bigger, interconnected environments with more engaging puzzles and higher item count so that inventory management plays a big part unlike in RE7 where I never found myself hurting for inventory space despite the inventory being limited.

I really hoped that they would improve the main plot in RE7, but is the same moronic crap as in other RE games. Even worse maybe:
- A huge fucking ship explodes/goes missing with a bioweapon on board in form of old chick with a young girl appearance. No one fucking cares for 3 years until some wanker gets a "come get me" mail from his missing wife, who happens to be an umbrella operative, but unfortunately has forgotten about it. The guy of course goes all alone to save her, killing hundreds of monsters along the way. Then there are explosions at the end and the cavalery shows up and tells you to "use it".
I mean how can someone ironically follow/like this shit? I played RE games only because of gameplay

If you're going to casually have a weapon around it's going to be a handgun or shotgun. Less maintenance, less skill necessary.

For self-defense nothing is better than a handgun. And that's not pro-gun talk, that's a simple matter of easily hidden and more difficult to have it grabbed.

The control scheme is basically the wonky tank controls we got in the originals reworked in first person. And molded are basically zombies

Twice she tells Mia to kill Ethan, but Eveline herself only wants to kill Ethan when he injects her with the serum. Before that, she was acting like a kid with her "STAY AWAY FROM ME! NO!" and running away instead of just killing him.
She even says "You'll be one of us! And then maybe you'll play nicely".
When he injects her, then she melts, becomes completely enraged and wants to kill Ethan herself.

From what I can gather since release is that a lot of people on Sup Forums have really low standards. RE7 is enjoyable but you'd think it was GOTYAY but it just isn't. The atmosphere is abandoned the second Jack opens his mouth, the "mansion" was WAY too small, the lack of enemy variety removed any tension the game had in the beginning, they straight up gave up towards the end of the game then delivered the single worst boss in all RE, the Albert was a disappointment, shit the list goes on.

When a GOTY edition is released with all DLC at bargain price, that's when it's worth the money but until then it's just youtube fodder for VR fanatics and not much else.
