Where did it all go wrong

GTA Online

GTA4 trying to make everything more down to earth

Saints Row may be more for you, then.

You know that Saints Row 2 is the best follow up to GTA:SA right?

GTA 3, the move to 3D ABSOLUTELY FUCKING RUINED GTA. Before it was a fun arcade shooter then it had to fucking add those GOD DAMN HOUSER BROTHER'S SHIT FUCKING SOCIO-POLITICAL COMMENTARY. Oh wow, America likes capitalism, witty commentary you neanderthal fucks.

Reminder GTA VI will be SJW GTA.

A lot of the dev team left after GTAIV.

Think about GTAV being made by a bunch of millenial 20 and 30 somethings compared to GTAIV that was still being developed by the GTA3-SA era team.

You'll realize it more and more with this mentality in mind.

I actually enjoyed GTA 3 because the cops were so dumb and funny. But yes 3D was an error, they should have made a spinoff and keep GTA 2D.

> too down to earth
> oh so you might like completely whacked out of your mind crazy then :^)

No, let's stay perfectly in the middle ground, that sweet spot, golden ratio of gameplay that III, VC and SA had. It doesn't have to be either or.

GTA 2 was just a pretty hard game with labyrinthine maps and not much to do outside of missions.

GTA 3 had lots of ways to spend your time, better gameplay and a better story.

Fuck your shit, 3-San Andreas was the best run of GTA games.

When it became less about commiting crimes and more about shit like golf.

I was gunna respond to you in a witty way but I realized how living with such a strong level of autism can hinder you judgement on games. Bless your soul.

I don't know what you're talking about. I love GTAV, the style, the gameplay, the OST, the story.
GTA:SA is my favorite content wise, though.

5 killed it

The 3D GTAs, because they started to focus on characters/story/etc.
At least with GTA 3/VC it still feels a slight bit arcadey with a tight, focused map - SA's gameplay additions made it great, adding so much to the exploration/open world/player progression with RPG stats, clothes, car customization, jets, jetpacks, etc.
GTA 4 focussed way too much on story and stepped back in gameplay
GTA V stepped it up from 4, but falls flat due to the 3 character/story shit, focusing way too much on heists, fucking LINEAR missions.

FPBP

Grand Theft Auto 4 is the one that tried to buck the trend and do something vastly "different" and lost the wow factor

Although i liked GTA4 it was clearly the beginning of the decline.

1/3 of the game is pretty much a fuckin tutorial, cars trying to be more realistic than the previous iterations was a fucking awful idea and i can't like driving any vehicle in GTA 4. I finished the game multiple times but i would always use a cab whenever possible. Having 2 endings was an awful idea, especially when you loose one of your "friends".

GTA5 sold gazillions but it is honestly the GTA i had least fun to this day.

The story missions were mostly awful, the side missions were also awful, the focus on online's fucked the map which was one city and a big fucking nothing. There was also no single player DLC and the entire concept of the single player was to make you hyped for the multiplayer Heists and future DLC heist that you need a certain fucking elvel cap to even fucking enjoy it.

Not only that but the creators said that from GTA4 onwards is another Universe, so none of the previous character are relevant anymore for cool ass easter eggs and secret side missions and shit. The best we got was Packy as a crew member which i couldn't use until i finished all the heists because he wasn't spawning.

Now that GTA sells on brand name alone they can get away with anything they want. Next game will probably on Liberty City again or in any of the other 2 san Andreas cities.because they don't want to even fucking touch Vice City

I enjoyed GTA 1 and 2. They have this charm, it's quite fun. But let's be real, they're quite dated.
GTA 3 adds so much material, it's quite an improvement. Not even including the fact that is 3D. Much better story, too.

GTA:VC was good, although the map was not as good as GTA 3, it's still enjoyable. And it has this atmosphere that makes it quite comfy to play. Story wise was average.

GTA:SA is the best of all. So much content, huge map in comparison with others. So much stuff to do. The character customization, the car modding. Gameplay was superb. It was perfect.

GTA4 is the one I like the least. Awful color pallet. Physics were horribly. Everything felt clunky and slow. I like the Euphoria engine, though. Made fun crashing and bumping into people. Story wise is great, though. Engaging.

GTAV is great. I love the color pallet they chose. The graphical style. The OST is excellent. Story is meh, because of the clusterfuck of following 3 different characters. Gameplay is really an improvement over GTA4. They kept the realistic feeling, but added some wackiness from older games. Rich variety of weapons. GTA:SA is better content wise IMO. More side missions, the map was filled with events and stuff to do.

GTA:O is good, too. Addictive sometimes, specially with friends. It needs much more improvements, though. The waiting times are horrible. Sessions are too underpopulated for such a big city. They need to add more stuff to do. Rockstar should follow SAMP/MTA.

This is my humble opinion. I'm hoping Rockstar get their shit together with GTA6. I'm expecting a much better Online, and much more content for singleplayer, perhaps a bigger map too.

>GTA 2 not having much to do outside of missions

Bonus levels, crane items, wang cars, modifying cars and going on a spree.

>GTA 3 had lots of ways to spend your time, better gameplay and a better story.

There was nothing to do that you couldn't do in GTA 2 except for paramedic missions. Boats felt like an afterthought and it shows with the drowning. The weapons are horribly imbalanced. Pistols are worthless, shotguns melt cars in 2 shots and don't even get me started on the m4. GTA 3's story is also a jumbled mess without the support of Liberty City stories and San Andreas backing it up.

When they decided is was fucking acceptable to charge $100 for an 8 mil shark card but single online cars cost 6 mil, I traded in gta today for Nioh, fuck rockstar those pricks deserve to go under.

You could fly in a Dodo for one thing. Spent hours in the game doing that.

There were more collectibles.

The gunplay was great, despite what you said. Shooting people with rocket launchers, shotguns, rifles and whatnot was fun. Pistols weren't worthless, if you could aim at people's heads (seriously?).

GTA 3 is basically the story of GTA 2 with a little bit more fluff. You work for different contractors in order to get resources to take revenge on your ex-girlfriend who betrayed you. There's no jumbled mess or nothing, it's pretty much straight up just that.

GTA 2 is even more watered down. Get rich or die trying.

Also, some GTA 2 weapons were fucking overpowered too, don't forget that. If some dude hit you with a flamethrower and there's no health around, you're fucking toast. If you get hit in the face with a rocket, you're dead. Molotovs will fuck your shit up. Even punching will fucking end you, like in that prison mission for the Rednecks.

The controls are pretty much atrocious in GTA 2 as well. Turning around, having to angle yourself perfectly in order to shoot people really makes it difficult to not get fucked up immediately. Strafing would have relieved much of that.

Don't pretend like GTA 2 didn't have all these aspects that were just carried over into the sequels.

so we have

> more side missions
> more and longer main missions
> more shit to collect while exploring
> more and better gunplay
> better killing sprees
> keep on playing after you beat the game
> you can fly in a fucking Dodo for hours on end
> get all the collectibles
> listen to different radio stations while driving
> etc. etc. etc. etc.

And that doesn't even get into the tons of shit more you get to do in San Andreas.

People like you argue that "the old ones are better" out of a) pure nostalgia b) the illogical thought that earlier games simply MUST be better since the game industry just got worse.

There's such a thing as a peak in a franchise.

GTAV, shark cards selling more than GTAIV expansions. We'll never have a good GTA again.

> I have no argument, and therefore I will bring none :^)

You showed me there bub.
