Why does nobody use the gamecube's face button set up?

Why does nobody use the gamecube's face button set up?

Seriously, it looks like it has some thought put into it, and it's way better then the standard diamond face buttons, is it because the gamecube failed?

>you lived long enough for people to say anything about the gamecube controller was good

If it was good then it wouldn't be changed

post penis

it's the best controller i've ever had the privilege of using

It has as many positives as negatives. It's hard to put that up against something that's been considered standard for a very long time.

>analog/digital hybrid triggers

How am I supposed to play a 2D platformer with that shit? Pressing A to jump while holding B to run would be fucking awful

...Do you believe that the person in that image is the poster?

If it's so good then why is it now used anymore?

>it's a six button set up with X and Z removed
Sadly the real problem with the Z button since thats where it makes up for the shortcomings of a non standard diamond design

You could press Y to run and A to jump.

GOATY controller.
As a smash fag and a sunshine fag nothing tops it.

Compatibility with modern games/ VC games.

It is one of the best controller layout created, but M$ and Sony didn't follow it.

Because people have such an aversion to change they'll reject it even if it's to their detriment. Why do you think the "boomerang" prototype controller for the PS3 was changed? We STILL have people who actually prefer the dualshock layout despite being one of the worst, most counterintuitive layouts for gaming.

or I could use a controller that isn't retarded

Claw grip for platformers is bad

Gamecube failed, and one of the biggest complaints was the controller, not the facepad though, just the c-stick and d-pad, but it's possible that controller designers took the whole idea of the gamecube controller as the problem so they didn't consider it, plus why fix what isn't broken.

the layout on the dualshock is fine if you prefer it but the real problem is the design and ergonomics for it are fucking horrible

He could either mean that he wants them to post the person in the image's penis, or post their own penis regardless of the image. I can understand your point of view though

Confirmed tiny-handed manlet.

yfw trying to play fighters on this
yfw trying to play 2d platformers on the ugly ass d-pad
yfw only 3 should "buttons"
yfw terrible c stick that may as well be labeled the smash bros stick
yfw terrible default color
yfw shoulder buttons actually delays the pressing of the button
yfw forced to use analog for old games
yfw camera controls
yfw face buttons just uncomfortably far enough with eachother to make combo inputs difficult, not impossible, more difficult than ANY other controller

epic things it actually do: the analog stick is kinda nice and makes a very asmr noise and the shoulder buttons are pressure sensitive

I unironically think that the wavebird is the best controller ever made.

>dem force-receptive triggers
>dat comfy contoured design
>officially endorsed usb support through the wii u adapter

Face it sonygger, it's always been the GOAT controller

he's asking for the pics of her feminine penis

>he hasn't seen them yet
lurk moar

Fighting games were a nightmare on it
Try to do B+XY combinations

This is what I miss most, that and the PS2's pressure sensitive buttons.

>giant A button for no reason
>can't hold down b and press x at the same time with one finger

This layout is fucking shit for anything besides Smash

I played Tatsunoko vs. Capcom just fine on a GC controller

that fit and that weight

only problem with it is how far the shoulder buttons have to come down before hitting the actual buttons and I wouldn't mind replacing the nipple with a standard analogue

>Triggers click in when fully pressed.

why don't they do this anymore?

It's been a while since I used a Gamecube controller for anything but Smash, but I think the reason I disliked the face buttons was because I played something/things that required pressing X and B a bunch.

As for the controller as a whole, it had a few other faults.

The face button layout is fantastic. I don't understand why anybody else hasn't thought about making differently shaped face buttons. Seriously.

I can easily tell which button is A & B and X & Y without even considering if I'm playing with an Xbox controller or a Nintendo controller and they're switched for some dumbass reason.

Holding B and A at the same time with this layout was just as easy as with the standard diamond layout.

you realize anyone who has played that game knows you're a retard right now right?

because it's shit and designed for babby nintenshit games that use one button

Face it Meleefag, SNES is the gold fucking standard for controllers and there's a god damn good reason why nearly every controller afterwards copies it's layout. Nintendo perfected the controller back then, the Gamecube controller is an abomination outside of having admittedly good shoulder buttons.

It had a flawed shoulder button configuration, needed a select button, and the C stick needed to mirror the left analog better but it was a solid fucking controller.

I'm old enough to remember that the only real negativity lobbed at the thing was the meme "IT LOOKS LIKE PLAYSKOOL LOLOLOL9OLOOL0OO0O"

it's a 4 button fighting game the GC works just fine with TvC

>Holding B and A at the same time with this layout was just as easy as with the standard diamond layout.
B is half the size of A and it's angled down to the left instead of up. How the hell is it easy to press?

Fair enough, SNES controller is in fact my overall favourite controller, but you have to admit that it's somewhat wed to its era. A controller with no analogue stick would have sunk like a rock in the sixth gen.

Cube controller is the best controller for gen 5 to present

Y = light attack
A = med attack
X = heavy attack
B = partner attack
Z = taunt
shoulder buttons for combinations you need to do baroque/mega crash/hyper combos

I don't see the issue

Using your thumb?

"Fine" and "Competitive" are two different levels.

>those joystick notches
>being able to roll your thumb to any face button while still pressing A
>also big A button for easy double tap mashing
>full and half trigger presses
With a bigger D-pad and more sensible c-stick it could've been goat.

yes, it's no fightstick, but the GC controller was definitely fine for Tatsunoko you fucking sperg

Yet we've seen people play at high levels with a fucking PS1 controller
Skill really isn't all that effected by controller

It's a good thing nobody talked about competitive then you turboautist
I fucking wish a comp scene existed for TvC because there really isn't one

It used to be unironically Sup Forums's favorite controller newfag. Until the pendulum swung back to hating it. I guess it's about time for it to come back now.

The steam controller has two-stage triggers which are pretty nice, a bit on the stiff side though

Luckily we have had better controllers since then at least the genesis/saturn pad is still top pick for 2d games

thumb on b
index curved over both x + y
have you never played the psp monster hunter games? claw is a viable control scheme

A visual guide for you fucking retards

and I never said nothing about fight sticks, you never saw a fucking gc controller in ANY tournament you FUCKING retards not any top 3 mother fuckers ESPECIALLY YOU DUMB FUCKING CUNTS

nah, your definition of fine is shit
fuck off retard

Of course tournamentfags are going to play on a fight stick, they will shit on any controller, not just the GameCube one. The GC controller works as well as any other standard controller for TvC.

>Why does nobody use the gamecube's face button set up?
Most developers can't figure out a good button setup for the options they currently have. They just take what people are familiar with and throw in whatever weird idea they have. Are you honestly asking why they don't try using a button layout with even less options?

>The GC controller works as well as any other standard controller

NO

NO

NO

WRONG WRONG WRONG ABSOLUTELY NOT YOU'RE OUTTA HERE RETARD

The GC controller was trash for anything besides GC/Wii exclusives that were designed around it.

For stuff like F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime, Smash Bros, Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, etc, the GC controller is excellent. But for general purpose on a PC, for emulators, or even just playing 6th gen multiplats on GC, it's shit.

It was incredibly ergonomic. Snug in the hand.

Then what the fuck did you play with? The Classic Controller tethered to a Wiimote? I don't see how that would give you any advantage over a GC controller.

It's kind of retarded, the only adavantage is when you need to press button combinations and that rarely happens in any games.

Genesis pad are you fucking kidding me? Shit is garbage

they always did

Genesis 3 or 6 button is basically the same as the Saturn, they're all great controllers

What. When you play something like megaman you need to be able to go between jump and shoot quick. On a dualshock this is only possible with x and o. On GC you can do A and B, a and x, a and y. So there's three buttons that are possible to hit with access to a center A. It's good

There is nothing wrong with uniform button spacing and button shape. Try hitting A+Y+X on a gamecube controller, or Y+B+X, or Y+A+B. Much easier on a diamond than that shit, you can roll your thumb over the controller like you can with a diamond shape and round buttons found on Xbox controllers to smoothly go from input to input. Gamecube controller is trying to fix something that wasn't broken.

They are not. Genesis dpad is ass.

Try hitting x and triangle. The benefit of gc layout is you can hit any one button while having access to your main one

Sony is shit too get a proper diamond and you can do that.

desu those face buttons are straight up shite designed for baby mario games where you only need to memorize A
also that c stick is trash

I think the same thing about the Duke OP, the fact of the matter is that people are too willing to take everything as black or white, and aren't interested in getting into the grey areas. As a result, you find things being undeservedly judged one way or another, instead of being viewed with a measured approach.

IMO, the button layout on either the GC or the Duke are better than PS2. Both of those layouts allow you to easily hit three buttons at once, not so with PS2. The S controller layout was a mistake.

It's because of those buttons that GC failed. Starting with N64, Nintendo insisted on being "different" so they made controllers with weird button placements and shit like that, which ultimately killed their 3rd party support. N64/GC pads were great for Zelda/Mario but terrible (sometime impossibly so) for fighters or shooters for example.

The only really bad things about it were the Z-Button placement and how cheap were the z-button and both triggers.
Hit or miss controller overall. For a game like Zelda that BAYX placement just feels right. For other games it can be a pain in the ass

>diamond buttons
I never liked this. Every time I have the bad idea of playing a platforming game that only use 2 buttons I just play shit, I can't adapt to those things. Then I pick some controller like a Saturn/Genesis/NES and I suddenly start playing better.
Dpads, damn weak analog sticks, shitty triggers, fucking wireless shit makes the controllers way too much expensive. What a cancer.

You could say that for many controllers. Just proper made ones for fighters or arcade sticks feel right.

Because it's shit and the A button in particular was fucking terrible. What the fuck is wrong with you.
It had good ergonomics in terms of how well it fits into your hands.
