I'd wonder if the console has a way to know whether the joycons are docked with it or not. Pressing the SL and SR buttons down wouldn't be reliable since those have game functions. You could have a sensor of sorts, but at that point isn't is basically a sync button anyways.

There's four LED's on them so maybe you can sync four joycons to a single switch?

The joycons have a metal rail they can charge through while attached to the console, so I think it's safe to assume the system knows when the joy cons are attached.

The system does know when they're attached or not but the sync button is there because it's able to attach up to 4 pairs of joycon, so you just hit add controllers and then everyone hits sync, rather than sliding them all on to it.

It's a quick scene that is shown this way so the viewer gets the point of the scene, which is clearly "you can play multiplayer with multiple consoles together over LAN".

It was confirmed in the same fucking trailer that you can do multiplayer with 8 people playing MK8D, and they can all use their own screen for themselves.

Smaller reader is still smaller, and they've stated what the online sub is going to be for as well as its approximate price. Additionally, the online sub has nothign to do with buying digitally and both the N3DS and N3DSXL only use microSD cards.
