Only game I played on Saturn is Iron Storm which is pretty good. Also Sonic R but that was on gamecube.

it died

I want one really bad.

But I'm a poorfag

They aren't that expensive, I got mine for 50. The games however are extremely expensive.

Sonic R was fun in a really bizarre way.

Which is why you get a Pseudo Saturn setup

Is that where you have the flashed Action Replay?

Any console is great if you know japanese and have jap consoles, they have the most games and the best prices.
Also Sega of America didn't give a shit about Saturn and Europe was poor like always so not many people could experience this console to it's full potential

Pretty underwhelming though, a game with five tracks at the same time as MK64, DKR and CTR is laughable. Even the first Mario kart had what, 16?

Those 3 games all trashed it. The best racing game was probably Sega Rally.

Console about as bad as the WiiU, with maybe 10 or so good games, that's cool to love now because you can emulate.

It was pathetic for it's time.

It's was a nice portstation for playing enhanced versions of PC-98 and PC Engine galge

go play Bulk Slash (burn a copy or emulate, it's gotten to like $80 last time I checked, might be higher now)

like, big name racing games like Ridge Racer Revolution and Daytona USA had like 3-4 tracks
shit, Sega Rally has four courses, and that game is a right classic

but Sonic R doesn't really emphasize time-attack, neither with its structure or handling, and all of those other games do
and R's biggest handling is the awkward control (but you'll have completed it 100% within an hour of figuring the controls out)

>biggest handling

shit, got handling on the mind
meant to type biggest issue

>tfw my mother donated my old Saturn while I was abroad doing work

i tried emulating some saturn game with the yabause but the only titled i was really interessed in was guardian heroes and keio flying squadron 2

PLAY IT
UNTIL YOUR FINGERS BREAK

Play the Panzer Dragoon games or at least Saga.

Hello retarded american.
Sure, in your country it was as bad as Wii U, but back then it was very popular in Japan and did fairly well in Europe (depends who had money for video games at all)
There are at least 20 must play Saturn games plus many more that suit certain people taste, it's like I said there is only 1 good Wii U game.

This.
>saturn struggled to play Resident Evil fucking 1
>even the N64 managed Resident evil 2 on cartridge because wizards

It sold worse in Europe than the US. Europe got treated the same way with Saturn games as the US did. In Japan it was great.

Panzer and maybe Darkstalkers 2 are the only thing I can think of. Living in burgerland does not help.

I think it's safe to blame the shitty business practices on this one.

Saturn apparently had great games but most of them never got released outside of Japan.

Wasn't Sega doing well in Europe?

I want one. I always wanted one and read about it a lot in EGM but never had the money for it. Then it tanked and I held off on purchasing one because of the new generation consoles. (I bought a gamecube and a PS2)

Now years later I realize a lot of the most interesting games were ports from the dreamcast era. I want to get one before they disappear completely.

Why is Leon such a fag?

Also, isn't it unusual for Capcom games running like shit since THEY are the MASTER of optimization

Best way for old consoles is to get japanese version.
Everything is in better condition and cheaper, not to mention more games.
Pretty much you can buy any good game for less then 20$, and if you want to play Bulk Slash or something more expensive then 60$ then soon there will be SD card game loader so there won't be a need to shell so much money to resellers because muh artificial rarity

RE4 was hot garbage on PC for a long time. RE1 for Saturn isn't really any worse than the PS1 version but everyone looks blocky.

You don't need to know japanese to play the good ones

we had a pretty good run with the megadrive which i think sold more than or as much as the snes, nobody bought a saturn and im pretty sure i was the only person in my city with a dreamcast.

I figure I'll buy one new when I'm a little more financially stable. I'm still sad I had to give up my sega saturn back in the day.

I was diagnosed with rolandic epilepsy as a kid, Doctors told me to avoid flashing lights so that I wouldn't have seizures. So that meant no video games, fireworks, movie theaters etc. Because of that I had to give up my Saturn and my SNES complete with tons of rare games. I was stubborn and didn't give up though, I used a gameboy in black and white for years, and played consoles as much as I could handle at friends houses til I was convinced I'd be okay. Now I can play just about anything but MK8's rainbow road.

>claire doujins
SAUCE

Worst console out of the three main ones, and pretty much only existed so that the Dreamcast could be made.

Kinda like the Wii U?

Damn what a shame, I saved up money from my first job and bough Saturn and later Dreamcast and PS2.
Whatever you do, do not watch Vampire Hunter intro, the intro has so many flashing lights that while I don't have epilepsy it always made me feel sick, but at least it had great song

I have a friend who had some epileptic seizure at school when we were kids.
Since then I always get a little worried when we're playing or watching something and lights are flashing all of sudden.
I don't think he ever had a seizure since more than a decade ago though.

God bless.

That's your opinion, I love both Saturn and Dreamcast and both of them had nice selection of games.
Only really bad thing about Saturn was that some of the 3D games had awful framerate, I don't know who though it would be good idea to have stuttering 15 fps boss fight in Burning Rangers, never finished the game as a kid since you only had a single life and few continues.

I sorta want one. But I'm gonna wait for that VCD USB adaptor thing first.

Vampire Hunter D? I'm not sure if I've seen that or not, but I've probably heard the intro. I downloaded a bunch of anime OPs/EDs in my teens. For me it seems partially to do with how bright the colours are, if they're sort of dull its usually okay. But MK8 rainbowroad makes my face start feeling numb after a few minutes.

For me my first one was while I was sitting at home watching beast wars somewhere in the realm of 8-9 years old. I never got a full body seizure or anything. My face went completely numb and tingly, like pins and needles so it was really hard to talk. Naturally my sister and my mom panicked when they saw me. I spent the next 7-8 years being scared to watch anything I thought might make it happen again. Part of me wonders how much of it is physical and mental. Because there's been plenty of things that flash a lot that didn't necessarily bother me.

>Yellowing plastic.
Made from the lowest bidder.

Vampire Hunter D is for PS1.
I meant Darkstalkers Vampire Hunter for Saturn
youtube.com/watch?v=0nGSAo5tvpQ

It could have been great. Shame they screwed it up. Although it has its gems.

Saturn controller is the best 2D controller ever made btw.

I got the emulator to work 2 weeks ago. Having a lot of fun with it

Every saturn thread on Sup Forums is 90% about how retarded SEGA is and 10% of the good games on it. if you actually want a saturn discussion go on /vr/

Not in 1996 user. MTfrqmework is newer than that. Also the team thst preformed the miricale of getting RE2 port perfect to N64 was a team calles angel studios.

They wrote an interesting dev diary to explain how they tackled the task:

gamasutra.com/view/feature/131556/postmortem_angel_studios_.php

I tell you who were no fucking help at all in getting this absolute blockbuster selling game onto the N64: Nintendo

That can be read about here:

vr-zone.com/articles/one-gamings-forgotten-technical-achievements/77665.html

>To further compound Angel Studios’ challenge, his team had to first convert the game’s code from the C it was written in for the Playstation to the Assembly language used for coding on the Nintendo 64. Surprisingly, Nintendo wasn’t all that helpful during the entire affair (something that many developers working on the platform complained about) as it reportedly refused to share its own in-house microcode tools with developers, and the basic tools available suffered from poor documentation and no provided debuggers.

Literally any RE2 doujin ever user. There are loads. Just be watned though... If it's resident evil 2 and doujin, practically every single one of them features Sherry too.

>tfw could have bought 4-5 copies of pd saga back when it was still semi new
fantastic game though

Why was Nintendo so far up their ass anyways?

I'm guessing for the same reason Sega were - they're just stupid Japs.

This was the most expensive game my brother bought in Japan.

sega wasnt far up their own ass. they made an entire game that poked fun on how retarded they were

I thought we were talking about the context of shitting on developers.

Well, I think that Sega was just retarded

I suppose so.

Saturn did have some pretty cool games, I always wanted to try out Panzer Dragoon.

Panzer Dragoon got a PC port, but I hear it was missing a few levels.
It's also included with Panzer Dragoon Orta on Xbox, but that version runs like shit.

PC port is a goddamn nightmare to run on modern OS. It's straight up easier emulating it.

The flash at the beginning is really the only bad part, it's short enough that it doesn't really bother me. Meanwhile if you've ever played wild guns on SNES. That gatling gun type weapon that makes the screen flash constantly is kind of awful for me.

Also why is Morrigan's hair blond?

I managed to get it working just fine actually. I needed a special driver for the audio and besides a little bit of slowdown on crossfades it worked perfectly after that.

I want to emulate Radiant Silvergun, which Saturn emulators are decent? My PC is mid tier, I have an i5 6600, will this pose a problem?

Yabuse is the one I use. It runs fine on my laptop so you should have no issues.

Mednafen is the best PS1 and Saturn emulator.

The addition of Sherry makes them better, I feel.

Mednafen is nearly flawless.

How much more accurate is Mednafen vs Yabuse? And will it fry a laptop i7?

From Mednafen's website:
>A quad-core Intel Haswell-microarchitecture CPU with a base frequency of >= 3.3GHz and a turbo frequency of >= 3.7GHz(e.g. Xeon E3-1226 v3) is recommended.
As for accuracy, Mednafen can basically play anything you throw at it without any glitch.

i was 10 when i had my very first fap and it was after finishing RE2 and discovering RE2 doujin. I was overloaded by what i saw. I had seen movies where grown ladies got naked but i hadnt considered how a teen's naked body might be diffirent before seeing Sherry in a doujin next to claire. I had my first orgasm that day, only a couple of years later did i even realise the implication of Sherry being in an adult doujin.

In retrospect... Feels bad man.

wait, why couldn't they write it in C
it's the same CPU used in the PS1, but the faster 64-bit model
unless nintendo's dev toolchain is retarded enough to have you hand-writing asm for a fucking RISC CPU

How much better would Saturn have been if it was able to be the true 2D powerhouse they originally intended for it to be? I hear one reason it failed was developers found it hard to develop for because they put in chips to allow 3D for the console.

but it was 2d powerhouse

Yeah but as I said supposedly they made it too hard to develop for and max out its power. I'm sure someone here would know better than I do.

The Saturn was always a 2D powerhouse.
Its 3D capability comes from distorting 2D sprites on VDP1.

I believe those two links reveal all, do they not?

It wouldn't, you first need to change Americas taste and the hype for 3D gaming which PS1 did more then Saturn

It's a real shame the SotN port was so terrible, it could've looked amazing.

Half of the reason for that is the fact that the background engine (VDP2) is barely used so the sprite engine (VDP1) has to draw nearly everything.

Did they just not know how to program for Saturn?

Pretty much.
The port was rushed by a B team at Kojami.

Sounds strange
Yeah you are right.

The point is that rather than being designed from the beginning to do 3D, the Saturn's main GPU had to be repurposed for halfassed 3D halfway through. It also meant a large amount of the power in the background engine (VDP2) mostly went to waste.

Were there any non 2d fighting game ports, that were better on Saturn compared to PS1?

SMT: Soul Hackers looks slightly better on Saturn, since it was originally made for that console.
That's all I'm aware of.

is mednafen that good already
ssf was the best option in spite of the input lag not too long ago
