People are impatient for Project Sonic 2017 and Sonic Mania news, but I have some news that you guys don't know of yet, and it's going to be available on all platforms, including the Switch.
>Sonic Team have managed to successfully port over a good number of Sonic games to the PS4, Xbox One and Switch, along with optimising certain games for modern PCs with help from outside programming groups. >The games include all MegaDrive/Genesis and Master System Sonic games, Sonic CD (2011), PC versions of Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R, SA1 and SA2 (HD rereleases), Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360 and PS3 version), Sonic Colors (improved visuals over Wii version), Sonic Generations and Sonic Lost World. >The current working name for this collection project is "Super Sonic Collection", and has been worked on since late 2014. The Switch version began development in early 2016. >Sega will be showing off Super Sonic Collection (implying that's the final name) at E3 2017 along side Project Sonic 2017, new Total War, new Aliens, and games by Altus.
More info on each of the games in thread.
Isaac Jenkins
user I hope you have some sauce for this.
Elijah Jenkins
After playing the Utopia tech demo I don't care about Sonic 2017
Ian Diaz
have fun with your tech demo
Gavin Bennett
>The Mega Drive and Master System games run off the same emulator designed by BackBone Entertainment for PS3 and Xbox 360. The emulator was ported over to current gen platforms with ease. >Sonic CD is running of the 2011 version by Christian Whitehead (TaxMan). The Switch port was done by Tantalus, who are also behind Sonic Mania on the Nintendo Switch. >Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R were reprogrammed from the ground up to work on current gen platforms and newer versions of Windows. This port was done by TT Games themselves. >Sonic Adventure 1&2 ports to current gen consoles was done by the programming team at SEGA behind the 360, PC and PS3 ports. They are also responsible for the Sonic Heroes port, which will debut on this new compilation/collection.
Levi Price
>Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations ports were done by memebers of the Phantasy Star team, who are also closely connected to Sonic Team. This does mean that Sonic Unleashed is coming to PC finally.
>Sonic Colors on current gen consoles and PC was developed by the development team at SEGA Europe, who managed to improve the visuals for newer platforms PC. Porting of the PC build to console was done by an outsourced company.
Isaiah Gonzalez
>trusting TT Games it's programming >ever
They're so incompetent, they forgot that some people who bought Lego Dimensions playnit on Wii U. The first year 2 update was so broken my friend's game became unplayable.
Colton Gonzalez
>SA1 and SA2 (HD rereleases) Well that would be nice and all but I would have preferred them spending the time on an actual SA and SA2 remaster.
Not just for nostalgia sake, oh no I'm not one those sort. More so the time spent removing what was shit, refining what was good and adding things from future games so they can finally learn how to do a game with multiple playstyles at base.
People wanting an SA3 before that puzzle me, they're just going to fuck it up if they don't make an effort to learn from their earlier work and mistakes.
Tyler Perez
I know you're probably bullshitting but
>new Aliens
Like a new Alien Isolation? Would be fucking cash
Jayden Bennett
Can you buy the games individually? I really want Colors but I'm not going to pay for Genesis games in 2017.
Lucas Evans
No info on that, but I doubt it since SEGA could make more money selling them on one disc/cartridge. They might have them separately via digital purchases.
Adrian Richardson
what about sonic 06... i mean yeah its considered bad game but if you would remove bugs and all, it's actually not that bad, not bad at all
Jordan Morgan
Due to it's known reputation online, I'm guessing SEGA has decided to skip 06. I was told that "they cannot find the 06 builds they once had", but I'm going to take a wild guess that SEGA disposed of their 06 build after it was a commercial failure and a stain on the Sonic brand.
Christian Morgan
lego dimensions game arent handled by TT games, it's done by smae people who did batman arkham origins
Gavin Watson
That's actually sad, because i discovered that behind bugs and long loading times, it actually has somewhat deep and good story, decent gameplay too, only thing that sucks is that you can only play it on x360 which few years ago, i had but i actually broke the disc apart from how annoyed i was with bugs and loading times, im not kidding lol... wish i could give it another shot
Eli Sanchez
I had the PS3 version since my 360 red ringed before I could get 06. I would say you had it better than I did, as the PS3 versions was slightly worse in a way. Big slow downs and no trophies as reward for beating it.
Daniel Perry
>along with optimising certain games for modern PC
>Sega of Japan >caring about PC
yeah man, im having a blast with yakuza on pc, lets not forget about project diva
owait
Adam Campbell
>what is SEGA Europe
Jack James
Just a bunch of monkeys who take orders from Sega Japan. Sega Europe has ZERO power of anything.
Juan Rodriguez
lol i only managed to beat 1 level before i snapped it. would be nothing new, sonic generations , lost words got ported to pc. I think Sonic team might see potentiol in PC market, the only reason why we havent seen any recent sonic games on pc is due Nintendo exclusivity deals. I honestly think with those exclusivity deals, they killing potentiol sales on sonic games. The wiiu was very underpowered system to develop and games like Sonic boom imho could been better if developed on better hardware. Hell developers we're also not happy when they were originally producing the game on PC and next gen consoles and then they got fucked over when were forced to port it to SHit tier underpowered Wiiu , a game that was running cryengine
Landon Smith
Watch Sonic For Hire. More entertaining than this thread.
Adrian Hall
>watch "lol Sonic is homeless and irrelevant you guys XD lolol"
Nah
Nathan Reyes
PC isn't nearly as profitable as consoles, though. Lost world sold just over 100K units on PC, and that's with an MSRP of 30 dollars. Most games sell better with steep discounts on PC. so most of those sales probably came at 5-10 dollars a pop, making PC revenue a mere fraction of console revenue. When dead consoles like the Wii U and Vita beat PC, something is seriously wrong.
Nathan Anderson
Utopia will never be completed.
Lincoln Howard
yeah because it was released After Wiiu and didint had any marketing what so ever, look at generations, 800,000 copies is not that bad
Jeremiah Powell
Generations is several years old, and like Lost World, sold MUCH better on consoles. That goes without saying, really, ALL games sell better on consoles.
James Morgan
yes, but it still sell copies, enough in my opinion to consider porting it to pc
Chase Phillips
That's why Sega abandoned PC almost entirely after Generations, and all Sega PC games are either ports of old games or rehashed strategy games, huh?
Connor Sullivan
Why not the M2 emulators? Wheres the Game Gear only games? Why is there still no Knuckles Chaotix?
Leo Roberts
yeah, thats why they releasing sonic mania on pc, anyway, if it comes to pc, they wont have to do much work anyway, we might only get just unleashed and colors port and thats it, simply cause other games (generations, etc) already released on steam platform
Hunter Flores
Yeah man, too bad they won't be releasing PC versions of the two newest Sonic games, nope, not at all.
Jeremiah King
I think Master System also means Game Gear, as they wouldn't forget Sonic Triple Trouble and Tails Adventure. I would understand them ditching the Drift games, Labyrinth and Sonic Blast.
Zachary Green
if it's on steam as a collection I think valve have a thing where if you own games in a bundle their price gets subtracted from the total cost
Joshua White
Pretty much and Sonic Blast did get a Master System port in Brazil .
Tyler Mitchell
M2 emulator I'm not sure why they're not using. Knuckles Chaotix is apparently skipped due to "copyright reasons", so I'm not sure what's happening behind the scenes other than what's actually happening.
Cameron Wright
>Sonic >relevant
Well understandably, since that's the subject at hand, but Sega's other games, like Yakuza or PD, won't ever come to PC simply because they don't want to put them on PC. I think Daytona 3 is a straight PS4 exclusive as well, besides being a port of an arcade game.
I understand not supporting a platform that doesn't make money. But I don't understand actions like those when they come out and say "oh, PC gaming is so profitable" and "we are going to port many more games in the future".
Blake Gutierrez
Sega used M2 on their Japan only PS2 Sega Ages set, some PS360 sets, Wii & 3DS VC and 3DS 3D Classics but never in a collection pack.
And what copyright reasons does Knuckle's Chaotix have to deal with? If it's a emulation issue then just pull a Sonic CD and redo the whole game from scratch, this time with Sonic & Tails as playable characters.
Hunter Flores
will this sonic adventure port actually support analog movement or will it only support 8 axis again like the current pc release? sonic heroes is also already on pc, but i want to know if there has been any changes, specifically to controls as they are awful on pc
Nathan King
>Sega >caring about PC
You'll be lucky if you'll get the game a year after consoles.
Aaron Gutierrez
i just want to say that lost world was an awful game that only looked good. what the fuck did you even expect, people to buy it for 60 dollars? it is a bad game with uninteresting level design that takes control away from the player for 10 second periods every 20 seconds. i guarantee it did bad on the other systems too not just pc.
Christopher Garcia
sega cares about pc more than every single other japanese company, prove me fucking wrong. the only two ports i have problem with their support are those two games (sonic adventure and sonic heroes) and im not interested in yakuza (beat em up) or project diva (another repetition game). all their best ips died in 2000 and wouldn't you know it, they ported most of them to pc. their nights into dreams port is amazing
Adam Gonzalez
>If it's a emulation issue then just pull a Sonic CD and redo the whole game from scratch
That would mean more money and development time. Money and development time dedicated to a game most people never heard of/played and at the end of the day, wasn't even that good. Those resources would be better off either making a new game or improving another title.
I don't buy his excuse of copyright reasons for it being skipped. That's always a bullshit go to excuse. There's nothing "copyright" wise that would prevent Knuckles Chaotix from seeing a re-release. It was on fucking GameTap for fucks sakes.
Ryder Wood
>heroes >no shadow or 06
this sounds too good to be true
Grayson Diaz
I'm torn. On one hand this is more believable than most "leaks" on account of all the minor details op included, but on the other hand if any franchise could generate the autism necessary to compile such a authentic sounding "leak" it would be Sonic. Hope it's true, not counting on it.
Evan Martin
>sega cares about pc more than every single other japanese company, prove me fucking wrong
Capcom and Bamco both care about PC more than Sega. Capcom is literally the only Japanese publisher whose PC ports actually take advantage of PC, with high framerate support, arbitrary resolutions, keyboard/mouse controls, and miscellaneous hacks. Bamco is currently on the 'PC will get games at the same time as consoles' phase. Just because you don't like Yakuza or PD shouldn't excuse them from being absent from PC if "they care about PC" as much as you think they do.
Nathaniel Nelson
alright yeah you are right, capcom has great pc support. but they both have great pc support. im not saying the games not being ported is a bad thing, im simply saying they have ported nearly everything i find interesting that they have recently worked on
Josiah Morris
>im not saying the games not being ported is a bad thing im not saying the games not being ported is a good thing* i mean to say i don't think just because i cant enjoy it nobody can
Leo Perez
>infinite lives >fix the loading times There now you have The Room of video games.
Isaac Rivera
Wasn't there that leak with those characters from SATAM a while ago? It looked pretty legit and I can't find it anywhere. Anyone still got that pic?
Joshua Phillips
After Sonic Mania is done with then we can get a Chaotix port.
Also, yea, but who even remembers GameTap anyway. With this gen it's PC first, then it's dumb down to PS4 due to weaker hardware but still with a standered PC layout then XBONE due to it's ESRam, it helps to know the limits ahead of time to save time and money.
Carter Phillips
>SATam Fake
Christian Rivera
>new Alien
pls be Isolation sequel by CA
Christopher Gonzalez
>No Sonic Adventure Battle 2 Port
It's shit
Daniel Jones
I don't know much about the technical aspects of these ports. Sonic Adventure is the exact same I believe, Heroes however was programmed to work properly on Windows 7, 8 and 10 with true wide screen support.
Nicholas Garcia
>After Sonic Mania is done with then we can get a Chaotix port.
Why should we get a port? At best, it'll be a rom and an emulator.
>Also, yea, but who even remembers GameTap anyway.
That's completely side stepping the point.
Mason Gomez
No like a new Colonial Marines.
Nolan Barnes
if you are real and can, please mention it. even if im playing with a 360 controller it feels like im playing with keyboard in sonic adventure
Adrian Moore
>With this gen it's PC first
That's why Yakuza Zero isn't on PC, huh? Or what about Project Diva? You might not like them, but those are two of Sega's more prolific games. What about games like Azure Revolution, which was made possible thanks to the revived interest in VC due to the PC port, yet it isn't coming to PC? Or how about the alleged home port of Daytona 3 being on the PS4 but not PC? Sega is the most Sonygger company in Japan, I bet even Sony themselves would be in shock.
Jason King
>S3DB There better be OST select like CD. Not saying Saturn one is bad, but Megadrive version is better.
>SA1 It needs not HD rerelease, but NEW port from dreamcast version. Models maybe look shitter, but they at least look consistient with all other models in world. >Look at this hd Sonic standing next to girl made of 11 polygons
>Sonic R Really? It's fine and all, but just weird to see it being remembered. I hope there will be achievement for tagging Super Sonic with Tails Doll.
>Heroes Does it have problems running on 7/10? Otherwise there was no reason not to push it on Steam earlier.
>Unleashed PC release is little too late, now that Sonic Retro ported over all day stages.
>Colors Someone explain why the fuck they ported shitstain that is Lost World first, and not Colors.
Henry Cox
I haven't played the collection myself. I wish I could say more about them. Sorry.
Something I forgot to mention due to me being in a rush is the Sonic Advance Trilogy being on the collection, but the Advance games are exclusive to the Switch version.
Jaxson Ramirez
Fuck Sonic where the fuck is my JSRF HD?
Justin Parker
Utopia was fucking hella epic.
I wish they would make a full game of it.
Sebastian Brooks
Because thats what happened with Sonic CD. PC Versions are shelved for some odd reasion
Also Daytona USA 3's arcade board is PC Based. He did said that all of the Genesis & Master System games are included in this so called set, including Sonic 3D Blast.
Angel King
>tfw pc will never get the sonic 1 and 2 ports from android
James Allen
Sonic Generations is the only good 3D sonic game.
SA2 is hot garbage with bat tits and BEEP BEEP eggman/tails missions.
Kevin Murphy
>Also Daytona USA 3's arcade board is PC Based.
So is Project Diva's. Hell, most arcade boards nowadays are literally Windows machines, doesn't mean Japan has an interest in supporting PC. Actually, make that just Sega, even niche companies like GUST are putting games on PC now.
Adam Watson
>Because thats what happened with Sonic CD.
There was general interest and demand for Sonic CD. Not to mention it was mostly praised as a great title stuck on a shit system.
There's no interest or demand for Knuckle Chaotix. It's mostly recognized as a mediocre game.
Knuckles Chaotix at best would get an emulated treatment. SEGA would never dedicate development time into porting it. Porting it would mean having to actually finish the fucking game because Knuckles Chaotix is empty as fuck.
Sebastian Lopez
The Sonic/Shadow levels were the only good parts of SA2. The Hunting/Shooting levels were absolute shit.
Modern Sonic was the only good part of Generations because Classic played like shit and the challenge gates were awful.
Cooper Morales
>who even remembers GameTap anyway. Subscribed specifically for Sam & Max seasons 1 & 2 and Myst Online: Uru Live
Josiah Moore
>Not to mention it was mostly praised as a great title stuck on a shit system.
It actually had a PC version back in the day, albeit three years after the Sega CD. It's basically like Earthworm Jim Special Edition.
Brody Hill
There is also a interest in Knuckles Chaotix as well ever since Sonic CD got ported and Knuckles Chaotix is not a mediocre game and it is not empty.
Christopher Long
Agreed.
Sonic Utopia was surprisingly god tier and made me sad that there will never be a triple A version of it.
Justin Adams
Yea, but those modern versions were made from the ground up.
Asher Reed
Regardless, Sonic CD wasn't stuck on a shit system like you believe, it was also on PC. It's also cheap as hell to get.
Evan Cox
>Modern Sonic was the only good part of Generations because Classic played like shit please explain this meme, it seems to be popular opinion. how did classic sonic play like shit but modern didn't? it was just boostfaggotry with polar opposite magnetic walls keeping you from moving too far one way or the other. boy it sure is a lot of fun to press and hold x until you very occasionally hit an obstacle that you tap a trigger and move wow. the only good part about the modern version was the sidescroller sections which the classic gameplay did better as it didn't have near as much awful camera. the worst thing about generations is the fact that you cant progress without playing the modern sections in my opinion, you cant even move onto the next level in a 3 level world without beating the first level twice in a different perspective. and that makes sense as a gameplay perspective but still i hated it
Henry Rivera
Because Classic used the same physics as Modern due to limitations.
Jonathan Myers
hi
Logan Lee
..and did it better. >the only good part about the modern version was the sidescroller sections which the classic gameplay did better as it didn't have near as much awful camera.
Nathaniel Baker
Modern sonic just plays like a racing game where you occasionally have to jump over a rock.
Adam Miller
...
Angel Young
You seem to be missing the point.
Because Classic wasn't using physics that classic Sonic should have, the gameplay for that part of the game was simply not good. Think Sonic 4.
Sebastian Bell
One more thing before I head off.
That teaser video with the dancing hedgehogs, that has to do with Sonic Mania and not this, and that's going to be revealed in March. This collection is being revealed before E3 along side the Project Sonic 2017 story and gameplay trailer.
The release date is confirmed to be July 21st for all platforms. Most of the porting is finished, with the only game left working in progress is the Sonic Colors HD port. I've only seen a snippet of it and it looks amazing, even on the Switch.
Adrian Bennett
way worse than an actual platformer.
it was nothing like sonic 4, sure the physics aren't as robust as the genesis games but they feel very solid and there is actually momentum. to top it off the reimagined level designs are better than the originals. it is still very fun to play unlike "racing game with no other racers and you hop over a rock occasionally"
Brandon Ortiz
>no Segasonic, that arcade game >no Sonic the Fighters >no Knuckles Chaotix >no Sonic Battle, Advance and Rush series because Nintendos
Fuck. It would be the perfect collection with those and if they fixed the werehog battle theme in Unleashed and kept those jazz night themes instead. Oh, and Taxman's Sonic 1 and 2 please.
Parker Kelly
I can't believe some of you guys are buying into this. No way they were working on porting that many games at once. It takes forever for devs to port 3-in-1 collections, let alone this many. C'mon.
Eli Roberts
>it takes forever to make a collection for games that already have ports
