Dragon Quest VIII: No Downloadable Content Available Edition

So, have you finished all the post game bosses yet?

Still playing, time to visit Argonia.

Just got Angelo, grindan metal slimed with him in the abbey.

What are the best builds for everybvody?

I've got Hero on spears, Jess on staves, someone told me to give Yang axes, and Angello bows, but I haven't found ANY axes or bows in the games at all, so I'm just jew hoarding their points for now.

Has there been any download content yet?

I heard there was a post game dungeon other then the dragon one I unlocked it be beating that dragon guy twice and asking for a "training ground" where abouts is that?

>What are the best builds for everybvody?

Just pick whatever weapon you want to use and focus on putting all points into that one weapon. Then put excess points into the characters unique passive.

If you end up not liking the weapon, you can easily grind King Metal Slimes later or using seeds of skill and get 100 more skill points for another weapon. I'm post game and already have two weapons and a passive maxed on every character at level 72.

How does one get the Jessica marriage ending?

People were saying in the last thread that some builds were simply better than others, like Yang's club build was garbage but his axe build was OP, is this true or just Sup Forums being Sup Forums?

Also, what's the best way to deal with fighting metal slimes?

Any weapon is viable. But if you really want to know the best builds, its this:

Hero: Swords, Spears and Courage
Yangus: Axe, Fisticuffs and Humanity
Jessica: Whips, Staves and Sex Appeal
Angelo: Bows and Charisma; Swords and Staves are about equal for a second weapon choice
Red: Whips, Knives and Roguery
Morrie: Pretty much any of his paths do well, but I would encourage you to go clubs since it gives you a crit skill useful for Metal Slimes (asboth Jessica and Angelo lack a crit skill and should be swapped out when Metal Hunting)

executioner destroys metal slimes, falcon slash and metal slash are also pretty good.

I don't know. I still chose Medea since she's the best girl. And it felt great cucking Jessica.

Yeah but Jessica has a nice rack for puff puff's why would I want a horse princess? plus I love twin tails and bunny girls

Then by all means pick her. Someone's gotta love her.

>all of those Metal King Slimes when escorting either sibling
>The Metal King Slime has fleed

asdfgh

It's true, yes, but the game isn't hard enough that you must min-max. As long as you stick to one weapon skill and the fifth tree (or a sub-weapon), you are going to beat the game. Level 40-45 is enough to beat the last boss, you have a lot of levels beyond that to wreck him easily.

What do I have to do to unlock it? I've beaten the game once and got the family ring I'm not sure what else there is to do.

How do I start doing the Monster Arena? Morrie is just standing on the roof and doesn't say anything.
Also, I'm at the ice town. How much longer until I get Red?

I think you get both in the town after Simpleton.

no

I'm not entirely sure. But I think you have to:

1) Go back to Allexandria to see two unique cutscenes. One by talking to Jessica's mom and the other by staying at the Inn.
2) When Medea asks you to leave and find your own happiness in the ending cutscene, you say yes. Saying no means you stay with her.

to get the monster arena, talk to him on the roof and he'll tell you to fight certain monsters go fight them and when you have fought them all you unlock it.

He doesn't say anything to me, though.

try opening the door, then go talk to him on the roof then walk away then he will proberbly talk to you at least that's how it happend with me.

Played it for 10 minutes on release day and then never touched it again.

You already tried too much, I reached the main menu and already quit.

I didn't even bother putting the cart in.

>Got Jessica's ending on the first try
>Married her in post game
Feels good.
Didn't like Medea. I need me a girl that can burn my house down whenever she orgasm.

Go to Jessica's town and talk to her mom. She will give you Alistair's armour and sleep at the end to have a cutscene with you and Jessica at Alistair's grave.

Do I need to go to the inn immediately after the cutscene or can I do it later? I talked to her mom then continued the story.

>mfw hero marries Jessica but still stays with Medea
>Medea is so desperate for him, she never marries
>he sleeps with both and his secret is never found out because he never says anything

Hero didn't put enough points into sex appeal to have all the ladys

It can been done whenever I think

>Medea is so desperate for him, she never marries
Had Charmless not been a prick, she would have married him.
She even gives Jessica her dress. She ain't that desperate.

>Had Charmless not been a prick, she would have married him.
Nah. He's a jerk and she hates him, but its made abundantly clear that she really ran away because she couldn't stand being with anyone besides the hero. Half her dialogue in the whole game is about her fawning over the hero, how much she wanted to always be with the hero, how the hero was her best friend and even how she'd rather be a horse if it meant she could be with the hero over any other man.

>She even gives Jessica her dress. She ain't that desperate.
Which is why the new ending kind of kills the original story. But even then, she's almost in tears during the wedding.

>Half her dialogue in the whole game is about her fawning over the hero, how much she wanted to always be with the hero, how the hero was her best friend and even how she'd rather be a horse if it meant she could be with the hero over any other man.
That's what I didn't like about her. Too thirty for me.

>she's almost in tears during the wedding.
What she says is probably her best line in the game.
"You were always there for me, but know its time for you to life your own life" or something like that.

>live your own life*

>Too thirty for me.
I'm sure you meant thirsty. But what the fuck you say about mai waifu!

god how old are you?
nobody over 14 should talk like this

You're waifu was too thirsty for the dick.
No real man wants to hear about a all that lovey dovey shit before the first date

>No real man wants to hear about a all that lovey dovey shit before the first date
Half of anime kind of says the opposite.

>Anime
>REAL

>video game
>real
You're playing a game that is made by two mavericks of Shounen anime. Its pretty dumb to expect it to be 'real'. But I suppose that's to be expected from someone who uses massive generalizations like 'real men doesn't lovey dovey shit'.

from any study of the sexes show that the "lovey dovey shit" is not preferable to the vast majority of females in anyway shape or form for the first experience.

Sorry bout that faggot, but ur a faggot

I'm still playing DQ7, but I'm getting more and more fed up with it. Vogograd is borderline "the last straw" territory so far.

>shitty retarded forced broken english
>party gets beat the fuck up by random NPCs and thrown in jail

that shit's inexcusable

>>party gets beat the fuck up by random NPCs and thrown in jail
>that shit's inexcusable
Never played a video game before?

>for the first experience.
The hero and Medea met as kids. He has been her 'personal guard' for 10 years before the events in the game. She has such strong feelings for him because, in her own words, 'you were always there for me since we were kids'. They didn't just meet. If anything, its Jessica who just met the hero.

How did you miss one of the most important parts of the plot?

I can handle that trope based on how extreme it is. If I'm storming a castle town and there's a million grunt soldiers I can kind of buy it, but in this scene it's like, 3 or 4 guys and you just get fucked. It's dumb whenever it happens and I'm already disinterested in this predictable as shit arc as it is.

Like if that sort of thing had happened at the start of the game it'd be fine, but not when I'm 60 hours in.

>shitty retarded forced broken english
That's the fault of the westenr localization and I agree its bad. But not really the fault of the original game. Don't blame the game, blame SquareEnix of Japan for continuing to force the dialects.

>party gets beat the fuck up by random NPCs and thrown in jail
At least when it comes to DQVII, they actually get tricked when thrown into jail. It has a plausible reason. Unlike in DQVIII where guards just arrest them and they don't fight back, while still holding all their weapons and spells.

>mfw they could just zoom or evac out of prison

Can't evac from regular buildings
>zoom
>indoors

>Their entire relationship is either told through her or flashbacks
>You're suppose to like her because of that
No, that's not how its supposed to work.
At least with Jessica, every scene with her you are experiencing it yourself rather than have it regurgitated by a lovestruck character.

>Can't evac from regular buildings
Purgatory isn't a building. It is also a long tunnel that can be zoomed out of. The team just doesn't because of story reasons.

>it sucks because its flashbacks
Is this your first RPG? She also tells you a bunch of stuff in dreams and at the fountain. And through her actions both as a horse and a human. All of these things is far more development than Jessica gets.

Its fine if you don't like Medea. But you're coming up with so many dumb reasons that are easily proven wrong. If you don't like her, just say it. I'm not gonna argue against your opinion.

Yes

That slime is high as fuck.

>Is this your first RPG?
That what an excuses for bad writing now?
I said I didn't like her. One of the very first thing I said I was I didn't like her.

Not that user, but flashbacks and dream sequences don't equate to bad writing, what the fuck are you talking about?

I'm not saying they are, but it is bad writing when you substitute character development with flashbacks in dream sequences

>That what an excuses for bad writing now?
The irony of your sentence adding an extra 'an' for no reason when trying to point out bad writing is quite funny.

>I said I didn't like her. One of the very first thing I said I was I didn't like her.
Yes, but then you kept trying to point out reasons for it. Claiming the game didn't do things to develop her character, when the game clearly did. This leads me to believe you either totally forgot all the important story scenes with Medea, purposefully ignored them or haven't played the whole game.

Furthermore, Jessica got far more development than Medea did. So you're basically just making Medea seem better by comparing her to Jessica by trying to argue the amount of scenes and way scenes were done. Medea wins in both counts.

Reminder that the downloadable content is finally starting to be available, starting with the candy cane scythe for Yangus

>scythe
wow who gives a shit

It always does 1 damage making it the best weapon to use when trying to steal shit

COR BLIMEY

When did that happen?

Earlier today. Tried every day and all of a sudden it worked today.

Well, didn't work for me. No items available it says.

>Yes, but then you kept trying to point out reasons for it. Claiming the game didn't do things to develop her character
I said I didn't like her because she was too thirsty and its off putting. You're the one trying to justify it. You can go into detail on why she does it, and I'm still gonna say I don't like it.

>get Divine Bustier
>put Jessica in front of party
>dodge, dodge, dodge

Where do I go to find Rosehill in DQIV? Is it on that very far south continent or another?

It's my first Dragon Quest and damn it's great apart from not having party chat I like the grinding while watching tv.

>finished Vogograd

And the story just ends like that? Just with a gigantic "fuck you" to the player? Fuck this game.

>One or more bonus items were found!
FUCK yeah

How the fuck do I get to lvl 99 in DQ8?
These fucking metal slimes are going to be the death of me I fucking swear.

Go outside Tyran Gully and keep walking until you find a open patch in the jungle. Keep rotating the camera until a King Metal Slime spawns. Its always just 1 of them, but a lot higher spawn rate than on Slime Hill.

Then you grind. It'll take a while. Make sure you use Hero, Yangus, Red and Morrie. All with crit skills.

But he sure has courage to try and have two at once.

That's what I've been doing at Dragovian cave, It always spawn two kings.

It just takes so fucking long and the fuckers keep running before I can even hit.

Also, what up with the skill points? I'm level 53 right now and every time I level I get like 2-4 skill points. Is it gonna be like that for the rest of the game?

Does Red's Dance of Death affect metal slimes?

I've witnessed them die instantly once, but it seems like her death dance has a low chance on slimes.

What are the chances for thwack to hit?
Every time I see that fucking mimic, he almost always kills me. How do you avoid that shit?

Was about to dl but then compared with ps2 version. 3ds version looks like shut by comparison

Yeah, but its better in almost every other aspect

hehe :-D *dabs*

Skill points drastically slow down. For me it started around level 65. However, you should be glad. Because in the PS2 game, the skill points were horribly uneven. Yangus and Hero got a ton early game and then went down to 1-2 per level after 45. While Jessica and Angelo got only 2-4 per level the whole way. This led Hero and Yangus to have a ton of extra points while Jessica and Angelo need to be level 55 just to get 200 points. Here in the 3DS remake, you should already have 200+ points for every character.

There's an accessory that resists -whack spells. In older DQs I used to drain their MP, as they have very low MP. Don't know if that works on DQ VIII.

>The Pandora's Box is absolutely enthralled by Jessica's fine form

>Just pick whatever weapon you want to use and focus on putting all points into that one weapon. Then put excess points into the characters unique passive.
This is fucking terrible advice.

What you've got to do is look at abilities, and then put enough points to get the ability. Good stopping points are Falcon Slash, Twin Dragon Lash, Hatchet Man/Executioner, Thin Air, Cadeucus etc. A lot of the 100 skill abilities are pretty useless - like Typheous's Maul, which only works on Beasts. Guess how many beasts are bosses.

Swords and Spears are both equally viable for the Hero, since by the time Swords start seriously outpacing Spears you're in the endgame and drowning in skill points.

Yangus wants either Axes or Scythes. May as well invest in both, honestly, since neither of their capstones are good. Don't forget to put 16 points in Humanity for those early heals and Nose for Treasure, bump it up to 82 lategame. Investing 42 points in Fisticuffs for Thin Air, which destroys random encounters, is a great idea, especially since you'll probably end up subbing him for Red later on.

Jessica wants Whips, Staves and Sex Appeal. Whips can generally be left at 23 for Twin Dragon Lash, Staves want 57 for Cadeucus, which is a FREE HEAL, and Sex Appeal at 78 gives you a 1/8 chance of causing random encounter monsters to do absolutely nothing. Its really useful.

Angelo wants Bows or Swords. One or the other. 88 Bows gives you Shining Shot, a powerful all-targetter, but you might want to consider stopping at 66 for the MP drain attack. Charisma's most interesting ability is Charming Look at 81.

Morrie, 88 Gusto 100 Claws. Anything else is a gimmick build of some sort.

Red, 55 Whips, 37 Acquisition and 100 Whips gives you an extremely versatile moveset with free AoE, free single target damage, Twin Dragon Lash and a more powerful all-targetter as well as healing and revival.

Yup, everyone had almost 250 each,

Does Yangus have a secret passive that allows him to get more xp?
I swear he was under Hero by like 2 level and now he's a level higher

Fun trick. If you're going spears with hero, use the Demon Spear + Thunderthrust when hunting MKS. Even if the skill doesn't crit, sometimes the demon spear will proc causing an instant kill.

>and 100 Whips
shit I meant Fans. Not Whips.

Also, adding onto the Hero, you can leave Spears at 59, since Zap and Kazap do basically the same thing as the capstone which is 40 points away with nothing else other than +15 attack in between. Swords and Courage at 100 gives you Gigagash, which is the best attack the Hero gets from skill points. Also, 11 Fisticuffs is almost required for the endgame, since the ability you get, Defending Champion (reduces damage by 90% for the turn), is almost essential to surviving some of the charged attacks the postgame bosses throw at you.

>Can only be obtain through alchemy
Well shit, I barely ever used the pot. The first item I made that wasn't for healing was a timbrel of tension and that was after I beat the game. I have the worse luck for getting drops.

Don't know what to say. I've read that some people were able to get it to work but for some reason it won't work for others. When I try it says I already claimed todays gift and that I should try again tomorrow

...

I just got through the Herb Grotto, how much longer until I get Red? And who should I replace for her, Jessica or Yangus?
Is she or Morrie capable of being a sole healer? I'd replace Angelo if so.

You get her after the following dungeon, and I replaced Angelo for her.
Not really the brightest move, but I don't really like Angelo, so it was a good excuse for booting him off the team.

Your end party is probably going to be Hero, Red, Morrie, Angelo. Angelo's heals are too useful to give up, whereas Jessica's niche gets old (magic's fixed damage makes it useless in the endgame and her buffs are done better by Morrie, who can also buff Tension!!!) and Red is basically Yangus but better.

Red does get Full Heal from Acquisitiveness and a revival ability from Fans though.

Which of Red's ability trees grants the crit abilities? Not seeing any on the wiki.

Red is after Captain Crow.
Morrie really can't do much in the way of healing but his Passion skills are amazing for building up tension quickly, Red has Fullheal but that's it.
I'd say Yangus and Jessica are the only two who could be replaced, Yangus definitely should be replaced by either Morrie or Red. I usually keep Jessica because she has her own unique buffs like the breath resisting shit which is incredibly useful against certain post-game bosses. I usually switch between Morrie and Red depending on the boss.

She doesn't get crit abilities. Use Yangus if you want crits. Her real thing is multi hit attacks - Fan Dango hits 4 times for half damage for less investment than Killer Juggling, which hits 6-8 times for 0.4x damage.

Generally you'll want Fan Dango since it comes really really early and Fans have a ton of versatility (basically Kathwack, Zing and an all targeter compared to knives which gets a better miracle slash, a 12% chance to kill a random encounter enemy and a poison chance)

Maybe normal Metal Slimes but LMS and King has so much HP that they will run before the 1HP adds up to defeat. Best to just do crit hits like Hatchet Man with Axes and Thunder Thrust with Spears.

Link Between Worlds 3DS or Zelda in particular?

>mfw I will never get to play Dragon Quest VIII with additional content and no random battles on a TV instead of looking at a tiny ass screen

It genuinely hurts Sup Forums

ok

>Still have a hard time recommending DQ4DS/iOS because of how badly they fuck up the localization
If you can stomach NES RPG the NES game is honestly the best version. Great localization and it's not even that bad interface wise. At least for a NES RPG.

At the end of the Whip tree, she gets a skillcalled Whip Whack. And it can kill metals, though it has a low chance.

You can make an extremely powerful axe early by buying 2 of the scythes from Peregrine Quay and throwing them in the alchemy pot. Once you get to Argonia, buy a battle axe and fuse it with the thief's key.

You can get a Holy Spear for the Hero by doing Cameron's codex if you haven't already.

Best when trying to steal, not best when metal slime farming. Since it always does 1 damage you can try to steal dozens of times without killing the monster in 1 or 2 hits.

Link Between Worlds. Got it during that crazy Target Black Friday sale when it was like $70 off.

>Stealing
Fuck DQ8 stealing. Pretty much stealing in FF9 but with an even lower chance. And trying to steal from Metals is even more maddening with them fleeing all the time.

Wow man, that's a pretty solid breakdown, thanks! I'll try that and hopefully I shouldn't have too much trouble figuring the rest of the game out
