Oy peeps, I'm building a tower PC and am still quite unsure with some parts.
For now the build looks like this:
- I5-7400 4x3,00GHz;
- EVGA GTX 1060 6Gb SC Gaming;
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16Gb (2x8Gb):
- ASUS B150M-Pro Gaming;
- EKL Alpenföhn Brocken ECO;
- Corsair VS Series VS450 (450W);
- Phanteks Eclipse P400 Tempred Glass Edition;
- Some 500Gb SSD.

It will be my first selfmade build so take it easy on me.
I am mostly unsure on the GPU. Should I go with the MSI GTX 1060 6Gb Gaming X which is 40€ more expensive but has a dual cooler and a higher OC or should I stick with the EVGA single fan? I am not interested in OC for now so the difference of 40€ is pretty much for me. Also should I go with the i5-7400 or is the i5-6600K a better option?
Generally asked: What would increase the performance and make the build more future-proof while staying in the 850€ range?

No reason to go with more expensive GTX 1060, especially when both are 6gb. You can easily OC GPUs yourself with MSI Afterburner program.

i5 6600K would give you OC capabilities, which may tremendously help your system's service life.

One thing I'd really recommend re-considering is that fairly low end PSU; With such specs, I'd say 500W would be the bare minimum, while I'd recommend having at least 600W 80+ Bronze.

if you don't plan on overclocking, then sticking with the 7400 is fine as long as it's cheaper
do you download a lot of media content? if so consider reducing the size of the SSD and picking up a cheap 1tb drive for storage

damn i have the same case, but with the cheap ass plastic and i got a white one. feels bad man.

The thing with the 6600K is that it is 50€ more expensive so I will stay with the 7400. Thanks for the tip with the PSU, I'll check some more powerfull ones out.

Yeah as I said the 7400 ist about 50€ cheaper so I am going with it. I do not really download much media, I mostly use the PC for gaming and for working with Adobe software. I will upgrade the build with a 1TB HDD next month as soon as I get my next paycheck. I want to install the OS on the SSD to reduce the boot-time and I'd like to have 3-4 of my favorite games on the solid state to reduce the loading times. Do you think 240 GB is enough to pack it up with Win10 and some games?

Can you say something about the case? Like is it quiet and stable?

>future-proof
There is no such thing as a "future-proof" PC.
That thing is going to be outdated and gimped in 18 months.

ya its fine bro, perfect for what i wanted, didnt think itd be that big tho its kinda huge. the lights are cool too

although the headphone jack on top did break when i pulled the wire on accident, but thats prob my fault

>outdated and gimped in 18 months

nice shitpost m8e :^) Pc's suck, right brah just get a ps4 sonyalwayswins anyways

Fuck me, this build goes way over my budget. I made some changes and I think I am OK with this:
- i5-7400
- KFA2 GTX 1060 6GB OC
- Crucial Ballistix 2x8GB
- ASUS B150M-A
- SanDisk 256GB SSD
- EKL Alepnföhn Ben Nevis
- Corsair VS550 550W
- Same Phanteks Case (will be most likely changed to a Fractal in the 40€ ish range, with such mainboard there is no need to present the build).
Went about 120€ down on the price and it is now within my budget and should be enough for the next 2-3 years, or at least I hope so.

just get a i5 6500 and a 8 gb rx 480

With future i meant about 18 months. I know I will have to upgrade this thing sooner or later.

The rx 480 went down on every benchmark compared to the GTX 1060 6GB and outperformed the Radeon on every tested game. The price difference to a KFA2 GTX is 20€ so I'll stick to Nvidia.

Just because some people got lucky, because Intel and AMD decided to not release any substantial CPU/GPU upgrades for five years straight doesn't mean that your new build is going to do the same.
>With future i meant about 18 months.
Then get the cheapest thing that runs your current games and upgrade again when something worthwhile comes out, which needs the power.

Make this on pcpartpicker and post the link

AMD is way more expensive in europe

>tfw just got a 480 for $153 after taxes and shipping

god bless ameriga

Recent tests and benchmarks put then 1-2% within eachother after several games

That's the spirit.
Thanks everyone for the help. If you have any constructive ideas for the build, feel free to share them here. CHEERS!

I have a 240gig internal SSD and quickly realized I needed more space soooo I bought a 2tb external drive. Seriously, get the bigger one. That will fill up quick.

The ekl is a cooler? Is that cooler 60 dollars?

Get a better PSU for fuck sakes.

pcparkpicker is bs, it does not have any Vengeance DDR4 modules and no Ballistix DDR4. Everything is only DDR3

Shit didn't know, sorry. It is my first time on Sup Forums in 4 years.

It is a cooler and it is 29€ (35$) and gets very good feedback from the community.

>That thing is going to be outdated and gimped in 18 months.
This is what sonyggers seriously think?
I've not upgraded my mid-tier PC I built in 2011 at all, and it's still doing OK at 1080p.

7400 is fine, gives you room to upgrade to a 7700k later.

The page is empty, no results

It might be using a build you've already made and you have compatability filter set to on. Does your motherboard not support ddr4 or something. Post your build

>I've not upgraded my mid-tier PC I built in 2011 at all, and it's still doing OK at 1080p.
>Just because some people got lucky, because Intel and AMD decided to not release any substantial CPU/GPU upgrades for five years straight doesn't mean that your new build is going to do the same.

>future games suddenly requiring more cpu power

Except adoption of DX12 and the past 5 years of graphical requirements proves otherwise

with the CONSOLE generations lasting longer and longer now, with the ever increasing focus on console multiplat releases, we are actually living times when PC hardware will last quite some time. It's pretty amazing to see people still use computer parts from 2009, coupled with some lower-end modern GPU, and still game just fine today.

I can't help much with pricing but if you want something more "future-proof", I'd recommend picking up a higher tier of components, although I can't say how much it'd compare on actual lifespan.

But buying a top/second top tier hardware should get you good for about 4~5 years on average and proper care (mostly changing the thermal paste on stuff) until you start noticing it's not running everything on maximum anymore, based on personal experience.
It's quite an increase in price, but still not going to the ultra-expensive top tier that's like 5% better than the second for double/triple the price.
I'm not sure how long a lower tier would last.

Currently, if I were to build one I'd try to get a 7700K and a GTX 1070 at least, then adjust everything else around it.

Like the other user said, get a better PSU.

For SSD I have a 128gb, Win10 and I installed every program on it but games, which should have about 5~ 2gb+ programs and a bunch of smaller ones, and it's at 50gb/111gb.
When your processor is fast enough you won't notice/care much about it because loadings will still be fast as hell anyway (get a 7200rpm HDD though).
It still work wonders when booting up or shutting down, and starting those heavy programs like Photoshop in 2~3 seconds is a bliss.

For reference, my last build, August/2012
- i7 3770K
- Asus P8Z77-V Pro
- Corsair Vengeance 16gb (1600Mhz)
- Radeon HD 7950
- Corsair Force SSD 128gb
- 700W PSU

I only upgraded the GPU for a GTX 970 Gaming on a whim last year but I was still able to run most stuff on max or high settings, now I still run everything I've been trying on max AND 4k, although the 970 fps does flutter at 4k it can still keep 30fps+ regularly.

i cant believe they milked this console generation this long and then the PS4 Pro is barely even an upgrade. shit is depressing as fuck. the PS4 was barely even an upgrade from PS3 in the first place.

You were right, I had the comp filter on. Here is my build:
uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/2tMWPs

it's even more hilarious that the highly hyped "boost mode" is technically a new form of INTERLACING, meaning shit's rendered at ½ resolution and upscaled with fancy anti-jaggie filters to look better.

Console generations don't matter for PC releases at all.
You need to stop this meme.
A 2005 PC more powerful than the Xbox360 doesn't run a 2015 game released for the 360 just fine. It doesn't even launch that game.

>GTX 1060
>current year
fucking cringe

that motherboard is overpriced and doesn't support higher clocked ram speeds, get a cheaper b250.

Do uk cpu's not come with stock coolers? Also did you already have a psu? It's not included in the overall price

Unless you have a monitor with g-sync I wouldn't go with 1060. Get a rx 480 instead. Nvidia are niggers

The PSU is not included in the price, because they don't have it enlisted. It costs 40€. The Ballistix RAM is 90€.
The CPU does indeed come with a stock cooler, but it is said to be quite inefficent and loud so investing 30€ for an EKL Ben Nevis seems like a reasonable idea (I put a beQuiet! in there because they do not have the Alpenföhn in their database)

m8 intel stock coolers are fine especially for cooler climates like the UK.

Cut the aftermarket cooler, save 30 euros on a b250, and just buy the cheapest 1070(350 euro). A 1070 might actually last you 2 years of max'ing shit out on a 1080p monitor too.

1080 or go away

>1060
Nigga get an 8GB 480.

>7000 line
>He fell for the win 10 meme
Do not. Try something else.

>Console generations don't matter for PC releases at all.
uh huh? So DX9 staid relevant to these very years by accident?

>this AMD shil

>So DX9 staid relevant to these very years by accident?
That accident was called "Windows Vista".

>this nvidiot

>Recommend NVIDIA
>"hmm aww yea good card user"
>Recommend AMD
>"Hurr durr shill"
FUck off nigger

I got a PS4 and PC

this is ultimate answer

Only if you're a weebfag.

I hate weebs

I just grew up with that config, always had one Sony console and a PC, you will never run out of games

This from the AMD idiots that thought the 480 was going to compete with the 1070. You amd idiots are fucking retarded.

>This from the AMD idiots that thought the 480 was going to compete with the 1070
Lol no. No one claimed this. The 480's goal was to deliver maxed out gaming at 60fps/1080p at a 200$ pricepoint, and it does just that.

It amazes me that people on Sup Forums will dump $800+ into making a PC just to shit on all the games that need a PC that powerful and talk about how they think people paying $400 for a console (at most) is stupid.

I mean for fucks sake if you have enough money to spend on your PC set that glows bright enough that you keep the neighbors up then there's nothing stopping you guys from buying a used console on amazon/eBay.

>No one claimed this
youtube.com/watch?v=rhjC_8ai7QA
>So much than an idiot had to ake a damage control video

>CPU
Your CPU is locked Kabylake CPU, means you can't overclock it and thus will depreciate faster.

If you wait few more weeks, you might find yourself a very nice AMD Ryzen CPU that's equivalent to unlocked i7 or better for roughly same price or cheaper.

If you really need your Intel fix and can't afford an unlock CPU, go i5-6400 then grab a Z170. Locked Skylakes can overclock(BCLK) with Z170 motherboard. You might need bios downgrade in some cases. There are guides online.

>GPU
GTX 1060 is quickly becoming irrelevant given RX 480 is now better in DX11 games and DX12 games. Yes, its now better in DX11 AND DX12. When they were both released, 1060 had bit of advantage in DX11 games, but that advantage is long gone. So now you're going for meme brand rather than actual performance.

>Motherboard
B150 is meme. B150 is for skylake. B250 is the kabylake, difference is you might need to upgrade bios for B150 to use kabylake CPU. Anyway, grabbing the Z170 (with i5-6400) will give you lot more option.

I spent 800 usd on a pc that doesn't fglow, nor have any extra leds or water cooling or anything.
People say my system is "poorfag tier". People here is jealous or fucking retarded.

PC Gaming
>Larger upfront investment, cheaper in the long run

Console gaming
>Smaller upfront investment, more expensive in the long run

Depending on the amount of games you play, console gaming will almost always be more expensive.

I hear NVIDIA is supposed to release a card better than the GTX 1080 soon? Any details on that?

What is it with the PSU boners everyone seems to have? Im rolling i5+1060 with 400w and I have even roll with quite heavy overclocks and it still manages just fine.

>cherrypicking
>reference card
(you)

>windows 10
Lol

>adoption of DX12
lmao

Yeah get WIndows 7 or at least do a dual boot installation if you want DX12 in your games.

>tfw gaining double the frames in Hitman and Deus Ex in DX12 on my 290.
It's a shame NVIDIA is slowing things down since their cards simply lack the hardware to fully utilize DX12.
Greedy jews.

>290

What are you implying? It's the factory OC'd Sapphire version and performs almost as well as a 480.

Get a 1070

Trust me. Dont get the 1060. It wont last you.

480 4 or 8 gb? Where?

kys

He's right. low/Mid-tier NVIDIA GPU's are ass. AMD is the safer bet.
If you go NVIDIA at least get a 1070.

If you're low on budget the intel stock cooler is fine
