Are overlays like health bars and other stat related elements in games immersion breaking?

This is something that's been on my mind a lot more, the longer I play video games.

Will we eventually move beyond some game-y elements like these, in an attempt to make games more immersive, or are they somehow necessary?

Additionally, what even is immersive in video games? I always felt like constant button prompts was immersion breaking, but true immersion would also mean our characters would need to eat, shit, and sleep.

Maybe both game-y games and immersion games are just stepping stones to what we'll move far beyond as story telling in games gets better.

depends on the game.

Does your game want to be immersive?

I don't care too much about immersion in say, FFXIV, but in some single player game I love that sorta stuff, dead space is probably the easiest example.

>The State Department has more than doubled the rate of refugees from Iraq, Syria and other suspect countries in the week since a federal judge’s reprieve, in what analysts said appears to be a push to admit as many people as possible before another court puts the program back on ice.

>A staggering 77 percent of the 1,100 refugees let in since Judge James L. Robart’s Feb. 3 order have been from the seven suspect countries. Nearly a third are from Syria alone — a country that Mr. Trump has ordered be banned altogether from the refugee program. Another 21 percent are from Iraq. By contrast, in the two weeks before Judge Robart’s order, just 9 percent of refugees were from Syria and 6 percent were from Iraq.

>“There’s no doubt in my mind they would be doing whatever they could to get people in before something changes because, from their perspective, their motivation is to resettle these folks. It would not be the first time that State Department officials have prioritized facilitating someone’s entry to the United States over security concerns,” said Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies....

Sup Forumslack here, kys Op you liberal faggot. Why do you retards keep posting shitty threads and put Trump's tweets as the Op? To attract people to the thread and shit on Trump and Sup Forums? This is the shittest falseflag I have ever seen, play by the traintracks, autist.

If that's going to be your op image you could've saved yourself some time and simply asked "What are some games?"

I really wish more games did what Dead Space did with the overlays.

What are some games where I can get some Easy D?

depends on how crowded it looks
mmos certainly are too crowded most of the time

I just wish people would be more creative with UI elements, kind of sick of bars and numbers, minimaps and skill icons

>It would not be the first time that State Department officials have prioritized facilitating someone’s entry to the United States over security concerns,” said Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies....

...and yet Saudi Arabia is somehow left off the travel ban list.

I actually accidentally clicked the wrong picture because I posted from my glitchy phone.

Thanks for showing how much Sup Forums still sperges out of nothing, though.

>falseflag
no autist, you retards are the ones killing this board. Stop fucking posting on the good boards and destroying everything you touch. I wish I could line all you nazis up against a wall and shoot you in the head one by one. You are the cancer, get the fuck out.

saudi arabi isnt a warzone nore is isis there

How goes the fight in the meme war?

That's the other thing that occurred to me. Should they even be creative, though? It can make it more confusing for people to understand the UI, if they're new that style of game.

If just posting his tweet with no commentary is enough for you think it's an attack then you got problems kiddo

From my understanding, other countries can (and will) be added to the list. Though, personally, I would've preferred a complete and total shutdown of muslims entering the country.

And most Europeans feel the same way.

>Overall, across all 10 of the European countries an average of 55% agreed that all further migration from mainly Muslim countries should be stopped

>phone
jump off a cliff either way

health bars aren't immersion breaking in my opinion, although there are better ways to signalize that your character is almost dead

>not owning a smartphone
Kill yourself, poorfag.

Saudi Arabia could cut off the US' oil. Anyone thinking it's because Trump owns hotels there is retarded.

Omg I hate Trump now

this fuck drumptf and fuck white "people"

I do, I don't post from it though because I'm not a sperging autist who needs to be on le epic half.chan every waking second

>d-don't call her crooked hillary
>trump is LITERALLY HITLER

What did it do? Never played it.

Based Tom from XSEED!

I'd gladly take "more confusing" for a change of pace

it's on the game design to make it understandable though, not on the UI
it's just that people by now are used to certain designs and immediately recognize and associate them with something very specific

red bars are for health
blue bars are for mana
blood on your eyeballs means you're low on health and when it's starts disappearing, you're regenerating health
etc.

you could easily be a little more creative than that and try new things
surely there's a barrier from years of conditioning, but it's on your game design to break that barrier

>I wish I could line all you nazis up against a wall and shoot you in the head one by one. You are the cancer, get the fuck out.

Something wrong, user?

I never once cared for or understood "immersion" anyway. A game is a game, and as it's not eating up too much of the screen you can throw as many elements on there as you want. The less I have to pause to get shit done the better.

keep your politics on pol you raging drumpftard

Why can't you disgusting white privileged fucks leaves my wafu alone she is not a nazi :(

The hud for inventory and options is a hologram that your character actually looks at. You can tell health by an indicator on the suit, and the ammo is on the weapon.
