I've never played a CRPG. What should I start with?

Unless you count KOTOR or Skyrim I've never played a CRPG. What should I start with? Divinity OS? Dragon Age: Inquisition?

Might and Magic 6 if you wanna have fun

Fallout

>Dragon Age: Inquisition
Stay away from that abomination
>Divinity OS
Only combat and graphics are good, it's up to you but i wouldn't recommend it for starting.

Try Dragon Age: Origins.
It's perfect intro imo.

>I like a well-balanced adventure:
Baldurs Gate 2
Morrowind

>I like exploration
Might & Magic 6

>I like interactivity and my choices mattering
Fallout

>I like combat
Icewind Dale
Divinity OS
Wizardry 7/8

what the fuck is a crpg?

>dat nostalgia

are you implying dragon age is crpg? cos its not. go with dos its goat rpg

>n-nostalgia!
suck a dick

Its a computer RPG. Just a game (usually on PC) based on tabletop RPG principles. (ie combat , storytelling)

whats wrong with nostalgia?

do you hate it because you dont have any fond memories

c in crpg stands for classic

do you want to straight up get into it or like an easy start?

It stands for computer and was coined by some guys at TSR to sell their computer RPGs.

serious question, are the other dragon ages worth anything?
i remember playing origins. iirc i quit once when i got that battlemage subclass and once when i was in that dwarven town fighting a boss that had a cool crashing glitch
not sure if those are the same dragon age games but i think so.
also i played d:os through but should i try the EE version?
keep in mind that i loved the classics and i keep getting my heart broken by the names, especially the rapist known as siege of dragonspear who took my baby's virginity

oh really, googled it and it seems ur right

altho some also refer to it as classic rpgs

I remember my Pool of radiance book had an ad for the crpg, Pool of radiance.

I played KOTOR and console rpgs , so I'm not a complete noob. I'm fine diving in.

Is Divinity Original Sin worth picking up on PS4 if you only have a shit laptop that can't run anything?

that's retarded, but thanks for the answer

What about a combination of combat and interactivity?

Gonna go ahead and recommend Inquisitor. Janky, hard and you won't find a worse potion chugging simulator but damn it's great.

arcanum, maybe? not nearly as interactive as fallout, though

Don't forget co-op potential.
Divinity's co-op is top tier and Baldur's gate would be fine if it wasn't for the crashes.

arcanum has terrible combat

Dont know about the ps4 version, but its a good game if anything. Combat is the star of the show. The game has inspiration from Ultima 7.

Go with D:OS

ps4 port is great. Controls, which were my main concern, work surprisingly good

>Dragon Age 2
Absolutely not.

Dragon Age: Inquisition>
Ehh. I played about 3 hours before I gave up. I thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins, for it's top-down view and tactics. However DA:I seemed like it wanted to pull me in to the third-person view that DA2 forced so hard. Every time I wanted to play DA:I in the same vein as DA:O I felt handicapped. That, and the boring ass side quests made me disengage with the game completely, so I dropped it.

Maybe if I stuck with DA:I all the way it would have been as enjoyable as so many people claim, however the introduction to the game struck me as being trope, and nothing after the hours I played redeemed that.

I'd say to give DA:I a try at least, DA2 is a fucking no-go though.

prolly have a thousand hours on both bg games and 0 crashes

Only Dragon Age: Origins and its expansions are good. The best what origins can offer are origins stories. Depending on race, sex, and backgrounds various characters act slightly differently towards you, and you get sometimes different dialogues. Those stories can also change your view on certain parts of the story and make some npc more important to you.
It's actually well done, i'm not sure if i seen it done better in other crpgs i played. Also it really shines in future playtroughs.
>First game as dwarf commoner.
>Pretty good.
>After a year or two feel like i need to replay this.
>Go with dwarf noble
>Get to the part in dwarven city
>Need to fight with some criminals
>See that they have imprisoned someone
>Free him.
>He thanks you and says that he wished you could came earlier because his friend didn't make it.
>Think why i remeber him from first playthrough
>Relise it was my bro from the beginnig of dwarf commoner
>Relise he is talking about my character from first playtrough, but because i chose different character he died. Probably as every other character i didn't chose to play as.

They really fucked up with the sequels. Not only those are bad games by other factors, but freedom to select and play through different origin stories should be hallmark of this series.

2, fuck no
inquisition, if you like MMOs then yes

>"CRPG" thread
>it's actually just a bunch of 13 year olds talking about Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls

ebin

this fag always pops up in these threads and i can guarantee he hasn't played Might & Magic 4-5 (they're combined into one game called World of Xeen) because that game is much better than 6, and if he had played it, he'd know that.

shameful.

OP asked how to get into crpgs. Dragon Age: Origins is good entry. Doesn't overburden you with older gameplay, its not so old and leaves you with urge to play more party based rpgs. So you need to start playing classics.
It got me into them. So i will recomend it to him. What wrong with that?

dragon age fucking sucks

most elder scrolls games suck. morrowind is good, dagerfall is playable. skyrim can be interesting if you spend 400 hours modding it

my recommendation is to start with pillars of eternity. a lot of people here shit on it, but it's solid game with good documentation (tooltips, manual, and wiki), is easy on the eyes, and has the modern bells and whistles. it has pretty good combat, isn't terribly hard, and the story is your typical rpg crap. the player does have choices that impact the ending and drastically change certain quests

the big thing you have to deal with with CRPGs is that basically none of the great ones are friendly and easy to jump into. good luck trying to play ultimas 4-7 in 2017 for the first time. if you can do that, you're a rare one.

Isles of Terra is better than World of Xeen suck my cock.

also it goes without saying that you should go play star control 2 right now if you haven't already.

just google "the ur-quan masters" - it's a free open source port of the original game for modern operating systems. and it's very easy to jump into with great colorful art and a sick soundtrack.

if you haven't played that, stop what you're doing right now and go play that shit. and enjoy it. because you're never going to play something that good again as long as you live.

So talk about a game you like you fucking idiot. Educate these people. Convey your opinion. CONTRIBUTE something instead os itting there and shitposting like the elite, jaded gamer you probably think that you are. You're the reason why this board is fucking terrible. Not the influx of newfags, not the perpetual e-celeb threads, not the generals, not even the thinly veiled porn threads or the LOL threads. It's you. Congrats you piece of trash, you're the worst this board has to offer. You've failed in the one place designed specifically for you. You'll probably just continue to fail and shit up Sup Forums. Thanks, you piece of shit.

Quite a coincidence, OP.
I bought my first crpg 2 weeks ago, and it was Divinity OS for xbone. As a newfag to the genre, I'm enjoying this game a lot and highly recommend it. It's more combat focused than a lot of the other games in the genre though.
If you want an extremely text-heavy crpg, Torment is releasing the 28th for consoles and PC.
If you don't mind going back in time, Baldur's Gate 2.

reactivity isn't very good in dragon age
fallout 2 and arcanum do it better

Kotor counts, Skyrim doesnt.

meh, i just don't think 3d works in some styles of games. like heroes of might&magic, i think it was 5 that went for the "cool 3d graphics!" which straight up sucked.
is da:o the one with the "go to elf, human, dwarf towns and do something" ?
anyways thanks for the info

Well good for you.

Fallout

im looking into it, but fuck it looks old. i like a lot of older games but the gameplay really does look outdated, although i bet the story really is fantastic.

meh, mmo's are ok for a while but get boring quite fast desu.
although i did play lotro for years but that was more for the community and lord of the rings
game was a lot better back then too but i mainly just did random quests just for others and such. rarely raided or did isntances

>What should I start with?
Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Arcanum

Dragon Age: Origins is an okay choice too

fallout 1 or baldurs gate are probably the best entry points

No, it stands for computer. Stop lying.
