Which one will be the definitive videogame?

Neither
Neither.
But the Witcher is closer.
Witcher
Best story and characters and exploration of any game so far and childlike anime trash doesn't seem like challenger.
Well seeing as how TW3 fails on every front besides content and post-release support, I guess BotW?
Please try again. Wasn't enough.
>story and characters of TW3 are literally anime trash
>exploration in FFXV - let alone actual good games like Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus - is better
At least BotW looks self aware, unlike The Witcher
Neither.
The DEFINITIVE VIDEOGAME is hands down Tetris.
W3 got goty. Pretty much everyone will compare any open world medieval era game to witcher standards now.
cyberpunk
Seems like you're comparing apples and Volkswagens there, both games satisfy different niches and expectations. Besides, the definitive video game would be something like Pac-man, Super Mario Bros., or Tetris.
Horizon Zero Dawn
BotW, because it doesn't ditch fun gameplay to focus on story. Also actually makes the open world fun and interactive.
The Witcher 3:
>wow, what a nice forest! now what can i do in it?
>uhhhh...ride past it and head for your quest marker i guess. at least it look impressive?
Breath of the Wild:
>wow, what a nice forest! now what can i do in it?
>chop some trees for firewood, pick some apples, hunt for secret items/bosses/mini dungeons. the stylized visuals are pretty nice too.
Looks like someone wants to justify their Switch preoder
Well, TW3 is overrated as fuck so BOTW.
neither, but W3 is already better since it isn't locked to garbage hardware
I think the fact that we are comparing a yet to be released game to a game released two years ago gives you your answer.
>teen wet dream story about teleporting and dimensions
>nothing in the way of interesting ideas gameplay - just Assassin's Creed mixed with Arkham, minus the "press __ to win" factor - and narrative wise
>bloody baron is the only plotline that acknowledges the game's dark and twisted setting in a mature and humanized manner
>all the characters, including the main one with whom you're supposed to identify, are primarily composed of sexual banter and "we need to get ____" in terms of dialogue
Why do people defend this game so adamantly a g ear and a half after release? It's a pleb game made for pleb players.
>PCfat And The Sour Grapes
actually i own, PC, PS4 and have Switch on pre-order.
i'm just not gonna play a fucking ARPG at 20fps, sorry that i have standards
>botw cant even compete with a 2 year old game made by some slavs in a basement
Why does nintendo still try to operate? Just end it.
>this redhead bitch is straight pasted from Game of Thrones
Dropped. Why would I play this game if the developers lack creativity in something as trivial as basic character design?
>Witcher 3 has god-tier writing, examples being the entire Hearts of Stone DLC, Bloody Baron quest, along with the start of the game "Look at the calluses of my hands, they are of a peasant", and much more
>"M-Muh graffics downgrade!", and somehow still managing to look better than 99% of modern games along with the fact that it's open-world as well and not a linear room to room
>Combat is actually pretty decent but was exaggerated the fuck out of proportion just so Sup Forums can have some way of shitting on a masterpiece
>Geralt is nowhere near as bland as Sup Forums claims him to be, he's not perfect as he did get stabbed by a fucking pitchfork peasant and there are others exceedingly more stronger than him
I feel my sanity dwindling the longer I stay on this site
>Pretty much everyone will compare any open world medieval era game to witcher standards now.
no they wont, game awards literally have no merit. they are popularity awards.
why are you people such plebs!
and it's GOTY and best rpg of last 5 years. reminder rpgcodex is ultrafucking pickier than Sup Forums
If they are popularity awards why doesn't Call of Duty win every year.
Why didn't Fallout 4 win more GOTY in 2015?
because they didn't have a marketing budget of 50mil, that's why.
shilling TW3 cost double more than it's development. I think that says it all.
>because they didn't have a marketing budget of 50mil, that's why.
Fallout 4 and Call of Duty had marketing budgets that far exceeded 50 million though?
The one that puts gameplay over graphics.
That's exactly why I don't like The Witcher series: they're more like TV shows than actual videogames.
Note how the very last thing you talk about, and only a small bit, is the gameplay itself.
Granted, I only played the first game, but I'm pretty sure the other two games aren't any different.
I agree about Sup Forums being bad for your sanity. I wish I could find a way to stop visiting this place.
The writing is the worst part about the game. I haven't played the dlc since I saw no reason to complete the cliche ridden base game, and even though the Baron quest was pretty good, it was the only good thing I experienced in the 20 hours I played.
no they didn't. get your facts straight dude. TW3 is the game with the biggest shill budget ever. It's an okay game, at some things it's excellent, but praising it too much is a bad thing.
rpgcodex isn't picky at all. That they hate meme shit like Mass Effect or Dragon Age means nothing. There is so many shitty problems in TW3 that they outright ignore
Sure okay.
>Witcher
>best story
I got memed on by Sup Forums and ended up playing all the games. They're absolute TRASH. I was waiting for it to get better but the characters and story remain bland. The blandest bland that ever blanded. It's like the writers and developers intentionally wanted to remove any form of entertainment in the videogames. Combat is pure trash who cares if the sidequests are good. And Witcher has a lot of anime shit, don't kid yourself. I'm tired of you special snowflakes overrating Witcher, Gone Home, Bioshock Infinite, etc. whatever flavor of the month meme shit you want to pretend to enjoy. It's shit. Yes, I'm mad.
Witcher's story was 9/10 until 70-80% of the way in and it crapped out to shit tier because of half-baked villains. Zelda will just be continuously eh and various "Ganons" being the dungeon bosses seems really fucking lame.
I don't see Zelda having a good cast of side characters for side quests unlike Witcher 3, which carried it.
That said I am absolutely certain Zelda's gameplay won't get nearly as old as Witcher 3s.
Name one interesting side character arc besides that of the bloody baron.
He is apart of the main arc, he isn't side/secondary.
The Cat school Witcher who slaughtered the village.
Also: what part of the main story did people like so much? Legitimate question, as I found nothing to be particularly interesting or fresh in regards to the high fantasy spectrum on which it falls. Not as well told and fleshed out as Game of Thrones, and not as hype as lord of the rings. All in all, it felt like a mediocre D&D arc without an intriguing doomsday endpoint
I dunno what that is unfortunately. I didn't play the DLC or past the attack on Kaer Morhan
Only Velen really, Novigrad was bad because Triss's muh mages arc was boring and the Eternal Fire was half-baked. They had a whole area of Novigrad's upper area but the only time you have to go there is for Ciri's part.
Skellige was just disconnected from everything and then later on the Wild Hunt had no dialog, no build up, nothing to make them interesting. Also Ciri was just as bad as the books.
That said, Heart of Stone was 10/10 the whole way through. The only slightly less interesting part is the heist. Blood and Wine is okay but at the end you have a choice between "REALLY good area" and "boring ass vampire shit"
Past the Kaer Morhen attack is the worst part of the game so you didn't miss much, but the Cat school sidequest guy is somewhere in Velen in the base game. Basically he takes a Leshen contract, kills it while sustaining injuries, and the village lied about how much they had/were willing to pay and basically told him to fuck off despite him taking a huge contract and almost dying.
I love Witcher 3, but it's BotW. Witcher 3 didn't have to save an entire fucking console when it releases. Zelda has to hit dingers every time.
The Witcher 3s batman/ass creed combat is its death sentence. But it wasn't even the best rpg that came out that year compared to the game that had a world 3x its size with no loading zones and was 140 hours longer
