Can we finally settle this? After nearly twenty years since the release and about a decade of the internet debating, is Sonic Adventure a good game?

It's shit.
it's a 5/10 game.
good is 6-7/10
no
No, it aged like milk. Sonic Adventure 2 is rough, but it's fine.
This
SA2 took it worse than SA1.
SA and every 3D Sonic game are the definitive examples of everything that can go wrong with a 2D franchise jumping to 3D.
It's pretty good and its high points far outweigh its low points, but SA2 is much, much better.
It's still bretty gud but visuals are of course dated nowadays. Reminder that the glitches you see memecelebs do are forced and never happen in regular gameplay.
t. been playing SA since it came out
absolutely not
>Reminder that the glitches you see memecelebs do are forced and never happen in regular gameplay.
sure thing kid
Yeah man it was alright for its time.
Held objectively to others in its genre its not the best, but as a 3D sonic game its actually a splendor.
Mixed with its menagerie of characters it can vary greatly depending on taste. Big excluded, each character brings something different to the table while retaining the "speed" aspect of the Sonic franchise.
It was ambitious and new for a new era of technology and only fell short due to lack of understanding the tech of the time. The sequel was an improvement in every regard other than the lack of an over world.
They don't, retard. Unless you're playing the PC re-re-re-re-re-releases which I've never tried so I can't comment on them.
Sonic, Tails and Gamma had good campaigns. Knuckles, Amy and Big had terrible campaigns. Chao were neat
If it was all Sonic/Tails/Gamma/Chao and none of the other bullshit, plus a better camera, better direction for the cutscenes and fewer glitches, it could have easily been an 8 or 9/10 game. But unfortunately, as it stands, it's merely a pretty good tech demo for the Dreamcast and a bad game overall.
Also, I don't like to use the term because I think most of the time it makes no sense, but the Adventures are some of the select few games I think have "aged badly". They really were only good for their time.
It's a good game, but contrarianism really picked up when that Youtuber didn't like it.
I actually rather liked Knuckles and Amy's missions since the former was comfy 3d exploration, which is something I always loved in Mario 64 and the latter was basically just the same levels as sonic, except admittedly a little slower than it should've been considering Amy's being chased throughout the missions.
I think Big's levels would've been fine as a minigame since the fishing mechanics were very good, but making it a requirement to finish the story was a terrible mistake.
Knuckles had some potential. His stages in Adventure 1 were certainly better than the dreck he got in Adventure 2, although being better than shit isn't exactly the highest praise imaginable.
everything after the first sonic stage is shit, just play the demo and pretend the rest of the game didn't happen.
Strong 6/10
Very mediocre game. Better than most of the garbage that came out after it until Unleashed but it's rough. You can tell their priority was for it to be a fancy tech demo for the Dreamcast.
Sonic in Adventure 1 controls much better than Boosty Generations or Complex Lost World.
2 was better.
solid 9/10
The Sonic levels are still the best thing about the game. Everything else in it ranges from mediocre to complete shit (looking at you Big the Cat).
What's the best SA1 stage and why is it the Sky Deck?
This.
SA 1 holds up ok. Not great, but a really good attempt with 1998 technology. Sonic Adventure 2 is dogshit though. Much more glitches, worse gameplay, and ludicrous story they expect you to take seriously.
It's honestly very mediocre. A modern reboot with good graphics, fixed levels and better physics could make it very great
.
I'm gonna piggyback off your thread, OP. Anyone else interested in the Kidrobot blindbox figures?
I personally dislike buying blindbox shit online, both because of random odds of getting something I want/dislike and cause I can't use the barcode trick to cheat, but I kinda want to buy one or two just to see what I get. Personally, I want finger-wagging Sonic and Eggmobile Eggman the most.
Would have been cooler if it included more main characters like Knuckles, Metal Sonic, and Amy.
Yes. I would argue the game is pretty well designed. But. The controls are dodgy and the game is kind of glitchy.
The story and characters are hammy, but in a fun way.
The music is consistently great. I will say that.
It's aged kinda badly, but I still think that it's a good time.
Anyone who says it's as broken as '06 is full of bullshit.
It was pretty alright for the time, but now it's mediocre, plagued by dated controls and camera angles and lots of aspects that aged like milk.
