I see a lot of praise around here for this game, what's so good about it? It's similar to Stardew Valley, no?
I see a lot of praise around here for this game, what's so good about it? It's similar to Stardew Valley, no?
If that's your only frame of reference then I suppose. Vs Stardew the farming is a bit worse but the combat is vastly better, there's a larger overall plot, and the characterization of each villager is tremendous and they have unique dialogue each day for well over a couple years. I've yet to see a game truly match RF4 in that regard.
Generally if you don't mind it being weebshit it's vastly superior to stardew (and any Harvest Moon / SoS made recently).
It's a lot better in terms of characters and a feeling of community in the village. It has alright combat and dungeon crawling but I wouldn't say it is GOOD in either of those ways, just passable, which makes it a genre leader in that area.
I enjoyed it greatly, I wish there were more games like it, though I don't think it's for everyone, it's a very specific kind of thing. If you liked Stardew though I would definitely go for it.
>rf5 will never be made
why
Don't worry. Most of the team got taken over when the studio got bought, so you might still see it.
>It's similar to Stardew Valley, no?
Other way around, senpai.
But yeah, this game is built on the foundation of many games before it, so it's a very refined and polished experience. A lot of elements have an unexpected amount of depth to them, such as the crafting system. Even worst parts about the game are still at least serviceable.
I would definitely recommend it. I think I've out like 200 hours or so into it.
>play this game in citra
>60fps
>literally every mobs and boss got double speed
>game is literally harder than soul series
I'm so fucking sick of even seeing the title of Stardew Valley. Nothing rustles me more than seeing somebody profit over stealing another person's ideas. The icing on the cake is that normies ate that shit up and try to shove it down Harvest Moon / Rune Factory fans' throats.
Expain?
another user here, stardew came after harvest moon/rune factory, what else one would need to explain?
Massive buttmad and hurt feelings.
Is it literally the same game? I haven't played either so that's why I'm asking.
Stardew Valley is similar to it. It is the other way around.
The game runs at 60fps natively, nice try, dumb frogposter.
I like Harvest Moon. I also like Animal Crossing. I even like Stardew. And I love Rune Factory.
Stop being so mad and just enjoy the games.
People pirated the game instead of paying for it.
Legitimately the reason. They were in the red before and were banking on RF4 succeeding, but despite always being recommended nobody bought it.
>It's similar to Stardew Valley, no?
no, its actualy fun
>It's similar to Stardew Valley, no?
It actually has art direction and game design so I'd say it's nothing like Stardew Valley.
I always like Harvest Moon more than Rune Factory and Stardew because I never cared for the dungeon crawling.
Stardew is definitely the weaker compared to Rune Factory or Harvest Moon. It paid good homage to Harvest Moon/RF, and I think it was only $20 when released and probably even less now. You should just save that for last after youve played through all the RF and HM games you want. Especially if you find it on sale
>It's similar to Stardew Valley, no?
For starters, it's a great game so no, it's not similar.
Stardew Valley is better Harvest Moon game than any HM that was released after HM:FOMT for GBA.
One guy achieved what several well paid teams could never fucking do. I mean come on, AAA game studio couldn't release a single good HM game after FOMT. RF4 is quite gud though, everything else is utter shite.
Oh a rune factory thread.
I have a question. How do you guys usually fill your barns?
I always have trouble deciding if I want
-standard cows-sheep-chicken for farm goods
-a zoo with wolfs, dragons, elephants, insects, panthers and whatever
-every rideable monster
-one of every monster that produces items
-my own personal evil lord army of farming goblins, orcs, trolls, devils and ghosts
-or those cute critters in fruit costumes and vegetable-head scarecrows which are mostly useless but I love their designs
Choosing monsters shouldn't be harder than choosing a wife goddammit.
>Find it hard to play normal farming games like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley after playing Rune Factory games
This.
I think Marvelous owns the IP too so maybe one day we'll see RF5.
Destructoid had an interview with somebody from XSEED at the end of 2015 and he said they're looking for ways to make it happen.
Fuck off and don't be spreading lies.
RF4 killed farming/life sims for me for those very reasons. It's hard to find any game that comes close as far as plot and characters go too, even RF3 pales in comparison.
>he doesn't know the shitslinging between Neverland, Marvelous, and Natsume.
Ventuswill.
How does RF4 run on Citra?
Shit. Don't remind me.
>can marry fish, birds, and retards
>but milfs and dragons are out of the question
I recently discovered that the game continues after part 2, but it's been an in-game year since the last dungeon, I have even married Dolce. How do I activate dragon's event to continue?
It's completely random like all events in this game. It's the major flaw of RF4.
There were certain triggers for marriage though
No. It's just an autist getting buttblasted over a similar game.
To trigger marriage, you needed to see all the events associated with the character which were randomly triggered. The best way people found to trigger them is have the person join your party before going to bed. If the person runs off at the beginning of the day saying they have something to do it means an event associated with them triggered else reload and try again.
this. RF4 blows every other farming game out of the water. There's just so much finesse and player QOL mechanics that it's insane.
What I did was keep all the monsters that produce stuff in one barn while using the other barns for other stuff I liked enough to capture like boss monsters.
It's pretty good thqh. I would say only go for it if you're okay with working to master a multitude of different functionalities. The dating is actually pretty great. I couldn't fucking decide who I wanted to marry.
Be warned though, you have to enjoy playing video games to like it -- if you usually play cinematic games you will not enjoy this experience.
To be fair, Harvest Moon was hardly ever a AAA series. Its amazing it kept its quality for as long as it did.
It is extremely good however RNG might fuck you in the ass
I usually just tame the monsters that look cool, as for example that onion ghost in RF3 he was my ultimate nigga.
I dislike Stardew Valley because it doesn't have anime girls.
If I'm gonna play a boring farming game I at least want the waifus to be cute.
Fuck off. This is absolute bullshit and you know it.
As a Harvest Moon / Rune Factory fan I for one would prefer more games tried to copy these titles and shove them down my throat
I usually just tame a shit load of cows and chickens, 1 bee, and a few elemental fairies.
>wait for the town event for the post-game campaign to start
>wait for the town event for me to marry my waifu
>play for 2 more years
>neither happen
RNG bullshit is the one reason why this game isn't 10/10 and it would have been so easy for them to fix.
That's what mods are for.
Was this the one that lets you marry that fat girl? She looks cute.
How much finesse and player QOL mechanics? What exactly do you mean?
So from what I know about this game it's essentially a harvest moon type game with some jrpg elements right?
I've been wanting to get into these type of games but never was able to. I got into A new Beginning a while ago but it wasn't my cart so I lost my save. Ever since then every time I try to start up a game in the series I just get so insanely bored I quit. This a good start for these type of games?
Otherwise I was thinking of getting Stardew Valley on the Switch(when that shit drops a ton of money). Or vita if they ever released it on there.
I'm personally waiting for Harvest Moon in space.
Thanks guys. I guess I shouldn't think too hard about it, but it always seems like I never have enough space.
I'll try the evil army in RF1 since the barn is pretty large there.
Eunice? That's frontiers.
She's really cute either way but I prefer her thin, since it makes her look taller and more mature.
>Save every night
>If you get an event the next day continue to hard reset the game until you get the one you want.
Seriously, just save scum events, you can marry and be on Act 3 before fall of year 1.
Can I marry any of the MILFs in this game?
I sorely hated in RF3 being introduced to the mother of the girls I might marry, but I can't even date the mom.
>Rune Factory
>marrying MILFs
user...
Hahaha, No.
There's exactly one MILF and she decided to marry the second biggest piece of shit in the game.
>CanĀ“t fuck bath milf
this game sucks
fuck you casualfag. lurk 2 years before posting.
>similar to Stardew Valley
Congrats for triggering me.
Nope MILFs and DILFs are both still off limits and it pisses me off too
this tbqh
>How much finesse and player QOL mechanics?
The menus, controls, and overall design is incredible tight. It's one of the most refined games I've ever played (no joke). There are tons of shortcuts and hotkeys, crafting items in groups is super easy, you can skip all text/cutscenes with a single button that literally makes it go by in lightspeed, and the amount of depth to its mechanics is absolutely insane. As in, the mechanics are so deep there are entire dimensions to it you'd never realize existed unless you're read a guide or read an obscure hint from an NPC.
You have shit like crafting a magnifying glass into another tool to combine their effects into one, or crafting it into a piece of headgear to make the magnifying glass perma-active when you have the headgear equipped. It's a huge QOL benefit that's as far as I can tell is never mentioned in the game, and you wouldn't even think to do it. Or the time a random NPC mentions a button combo which allows you to access your shipping log anywhere, anytime, instead of needing to look at your shipping bin. Or when he mentions doing random shit like upgrading a fishing rod with raw fish actually has a unique effect.
The game is full of shit like this. The developers poured autistic amount of of love and effort into this game, which you almost never see.
undubbed?
You can find a .cia file floating around for that if you look.
But honestly I think it's worse then the English voices. It's not a noticeable difference on most characters and a few like Porco are way way way worse.
RF is basically gaming nirvana. It's Stardew Vally/Harvest Moon if they had an actual video game welded onto them.
RF is a game that allows you to drink directly from the fire hydrant and get in way over your head in a few seconds, but in reality you don't have to at all.
It's a fucking masterpiece, get it.
How would you rate the 4 ds/3ds RF games, from 0 to 10?
I had one barn with the animals I actively used, one with animals that produced things I cared about, then filled the rest with vanity/completion crap.
>Implying the reason Ventuswill is off-limits is because she's a dragon, not because she's a milf
Yeah, it's pretty much harvest moon with a plot, dungeon crawling, and less demanding farming.
Nope.
Not only can you not marry the milf, you can't marry the elf detective girl either.
>Stardew Valley has better farming than HM/RF
>STILL no milfs to marry
When will someone get it right? If you're making a game have dating sim features, don't skimp out on the best kind of woman
>you can't marry the elf detective girl either
This one is the most insulting to me. She's: not that old, single, childless, never married, and flirts with you.
RF4 is a fucking fantastic game. I picked it up on a whim at gamestop a while after it came out. Even though I was a fan of Harvest Moon, I had never heard of RF before, and it looked interesting when I was checking it out at the store.
One of the best on the fly purchases I've ever made. Basically everything about the game is fun as fuck. Taming monsters, relaxing farming, enjoyable characters in the town, decent story, fun combat with a lot of variation to it. (like there's a bunch of weapon types you can get into to find what you like, and all have a multitude of skills), taming awesome monsters.
Literally the only bad thing about it is once you finish the story, marry and have a kid, and play for maybe 2-3 years, there's literally nothing else new to do. But I guess you can't say any better for Stardew, Harvest Moon or other games like that.
Don't forget that she stalks you. If you say that you thinks she's cute(or was it that you liked her? I can't remember) at one of the sleepovers you hear her get excited.
>not that old
She's older than Volkanon
4 is a 9.9/10, the .1 is because of RNG.
3 is a 8.5/10, I might be judging this one too harshly because I played it after 4. Dungeon design is less engaging, and there are fewer "fluff" characters which makes the town seem deserted.
2: 7.5/10, possible 7/10. Crafting is, in hindsight, a bitch in this one because of the massive QOL enhancements 3 implemented with regards to stacks. Still, the plot concept is neat, and it is probably worth a bit more than I'm giving it.
The possible point knock off is because I'm not quite sure if having to redo all of your friendship grinding is actually bad design, or if I'm just salty about having to do it again.
I haven't played the first one. I have it, but I'm a bit worried how bad it will feel after playing 4, given how clunky replaying 2 felt.
Also, just because
Oceans: 6/10
Not nearly as in-depth in terms of crafting or farming, but it looks pretty. ish.
The game came out before 3DS piracy became super widespread though
It's bizarre because there's no reasonable excuse as to why she rejects MC.
>get her to 10 hearts
>confess
>"Hah, you'll never steal my heart!"
>b-but why?
I think Monica is too, but there's no issue with that.
Because Illuminati is a strong, independent woman. She don't need no man in her life. Ain't nobody got time for that.
I just assumed it was because Elves don't usually if ever have relationships with Humans.
Margaret is shown to be a super rare case and it takes a lot of work to get her to accept even though she loves the shit out of Lest.
>Volkanon
He was moe I wish I could have married him
>Series makes 10/10 waifubait
>Makes 11/10 milfs
>No 11/10 lightly used waifu for you
It always made me sad that you couldn't recruit him. I'd get if he was post-game only or something, but not having the superman at all was just sad.
I like RF4 better than Starjew Valley, in SV everything, and i mean everything feels like a chore while RF4 the chores feel more like a game.
Wasnt her human form a literal loli?
but she actually complains about being single
honestly, it feels like she was a marriage candidate in earlier drafts of the game, but then she was cut. In some regard I'm glad for that, because if she was marriageable then she would be worst girl right along Dolce.
Sebastian ain't shit.
Make it animu style with waifus and I will throw down money on Kickstarter.
Because Sup Forums has terrible taste and won't admit the rf3 girls were far more memorable despite ahving less dialogue and a bigger cast.
save scum until you get the event
What
fuck runeys
>I haven't played the first one. I have it, but I'm a bit worried how bad it will feel after playing 4, given how clunky replaying 2 felt.
If you've played 4, you won't have a good time at all with 1. From what I remember playing when it released, the game is slow. RF is very limited for the first half of the game because they tried balancing the game around Rune Factories, crop fields you grow in dungeons and don't harvest so you can gather the RF recovery rune everyday using them as rest points. The issue is that this is completely thrown out of the window once you start cooking and you just have an inventory of recovery items.
>tried balancing the game around Rune Factories
oh shit, that's why the franchise is called that? awfully ironic they would abandon their titular mechanic.
Man, I was enjoying RFF so much back when I played it when it came out then the runeys started dying and I was like fuck this game.
You haven't played RF4 until you beat the entire game at level 1
it is possible but very time consuming, also the feels you get for playing this way, every burden is heavy, every fight is a milestone
How exactly do you prevent getting exp from boss fights?
it would be slightly more bearable if you didnt have to individually vacuum each of the fuckers up
Literally how? There are things you have to kill.
And honestly, levels don't matter. Skills do.
I think he means those "extra orders", such as "show enemy health bar" or "show enemy name". There must be something to do with exp, can't recall.
Why would you do this though, is beyond me.
