Why didn't they just make 2 versions of this? The one we have now and one that's not portable, just a standard console for about $150-200?
Why didn't they just make 2 versions of this? The one we have now and one that's not portable...
That comes later
Because they'll do the complete opposite. A version that doesn't come with the dock.
Being portable is the entire concept. That's why I'm getting one. Because my pc doesn't have legs
Didn't you read my post? I asked why they didn't make an additional one, not why they just scrapped the idea of a portable device.
Because a console only makes no sense since
>Being portable is the entire concept.
A handheld only does though.
Because being hybrid is the selling point, Nintendo wants to difference itself from the rest of the mainstream market
Did you read mine? The entire concept they are marketing this on is that it's a hybrid console. That means no portable/home only. Thats like asking, why dont girls with penises exist?
Seriously though, why don't they?
Because according to Nintendo their consoles needs to be different than the rest of the marketc
I was asking about the girls with penises.
I want a handheld only with reduced hardware for cheaper because I'll never, ever dock it
Or one with the fucking rumble trash
>I want a handheld only with reduced hardware for cheaper because I'll never, ever dock it
Give them a year at most. And you better never want to dock it for real, cause it'd cost you 90 bucks to do it.
From what I've heard so far, you really do want to keep that next gen rumble. You just don't know it yet.
In some cases they do naturally exist, just like humans with tails. Unnaturally: just go to Thailand
No, I don't. I want to play normal games. I don't want to pretend to suck a dick, or have a pretend dick sucking competition with a stranger in Starbucks. I don't care how reel some dipshits say the feedback is. I don't actually like Nintendo games, I just want the 3rd party handheld market because Sony abandoned it.
Good luck finding one though. Can they even reproduce?
>I don't want to pretend to suck a dick, or have a pretend dick sucking competition with a stranger in Starbucks.
You're mixing things. That's the IR camera thing, not the HD rumble.
And there's already rumble in every other console ever. The one on the Switch is just a million times better, so I don't know why wouldn't you want it.
Not sure
They are mostly steriel. If they aren't sterile, they are only able to produce either ova or sperm, not both.
>A version that doesn't come with the dock.
The dock is fucking valueless. The hardware in the Switch can't be made cheaper by being made portable-only since it's still the same exact SoC. It's only underclocked in handheld mode, not overclocked in dock mode.
What actually makes sense is them taking the battery and LCD screen out of it and making a microconsole. That would *actually* make it cheaper. Remember, handhelds are naturally more expensive than the equivalent console, because of the added parts they need
A Switch console should be $200
Well, it comes with an HDMI cable and an USB C charger, things they could totally eliminate from the package, which sure, they're cheap, but they're not free. Same thing with the dock itself. It may just be a piece of plastic with a couple of chips, but it's all about looking at the big picture. And they could also make the package itself a lot smaller, which seems like a silly thing to point out, but size quickly adds up in storage costs.
Here's the thing, though, a handheld only Switch would still have all the functions a normal Switch has. You'd still be able to play it in tabletop mode and you'd still be able to dock it into any dock. Meaning a lot of people would probably end up buying a separate dock down the line.
On the other hand, a console only Switch would obviously always be stuck at home, which defeats the whole purpose of the thing, and it wouldn't offer Nintendo many advantages either. They'd have to set up a completely separate production line just for that thing. And home consoles are less popular than handhelds anyway, so it wouldn't make sense.
Well, that's disappointing. The one time evolution would be useful, the one time it fails big time.
Couldn't they remove the bluetooth and make the controllers non-removeable from a portable-only version so you can't use it in tabletop mode or use other controllers with it?
I guess, but that'd be completely counterproductive. Keeping the removeable joycons means you can keep selling additional joycons for them too. And they obviously want to do that.
>and it wouldn't offer Nintendo many advantages either.
They could sell it significantly cheaper and that's an advantage. I could see it going as low as $150. PS4 or Xbone won't be that price for a long time. That's a real advantage
Are you kidding me? Batteries and LCD screens are standard parts used by every mobile device in existance, dude. Even if the screen is a good quality screen, they've gotta be cheap as hell. The most expensive thing of the Switch is the CPU and the GPU, and after that, the Joycons. Removing the screen and the battery wouldn't make it that much cheaper.
I'm with you there, they can pull the 3d from the 3DS and release various at home adapters for portables but they need to make a standard console for the switch for me to get it
You're forgetting that you can do away with the dock too, and just put an HDMI and USB port on the main mother board instead. I'm sure there's also cost savings in not having to fit the form factor. I'd also throw in a Pro controller instead of the joycons and I think that would also save a few bucks
All of that would mean potentially selling a lot less accessories. Not a good idea from a business standpoint.
Do people really want Nintendo to just make another shitbox console? The only reason I have continued interest in Nintendo hardware is for the gimmicks. Why on earth would anyone want -another- PS4/Xbox with the same library of games you could just be playing better versions of on a PC?
The portability, joycons, and multiple control schemes could potentially mean a lot for multiplayer games, and that's why I'm excited for it. Take all of that a way and what's the point?
Being non-portable means it would be a direct competitor to xbone and ps4, rather than a weird hybrid.
That's a harder sell to most people.
If you could target a different price point and a different market need (microconsoles) then it's worth it for the potential of more game sales
That's the entire console business model. Sell games. Hardware is the loss leader.
The only reason I buy Nintendo hardware is to play Nintendo games. I'd gladly play their games on hardware I already own and I welcome them going 3rd party. If instead they want to offer me modern technology that actually does 1080p then I'd be happy with that too. As it stands I feel like they're holding their own games hostage and it kind of puts me in a bind as a fan. I'm actually growing to resent them to be perfectly honest
uh the games? literally the only reason to buy a console
