Switch Charging Grip

I see a bunch of people on Sup Forums wonder why this isn't coming with the switch itself, but I'm wondering why it exists in the first place.

Like, wouldn't you need to charge the charging grip to let it charge the joycons? That's super fucking redundant. Just charge the joycons themselves. Why put them in a grip and charge it from there like it makes a difference?

It's not like they are impossible to use while charging normally either. Just undock the system

Because I don't ever plan on using this thing like a portable considering half my day is at work and the other half is at school.

I'd like a way to still play in controller mode while playing it on my TV.

They charge when they are docked. Unless you are playing a 30 hour game merithon there really isn't a reason they wouldn't be charged

Agreed completely. Plus, if you wanted to charge the joycons and keep playing, you can do that by just playing it in handheld mode with the charging cable plugged in. There is literally no function for this existing.

Well I look at it like this. Instead of undocking the JC from the system or putting them back when not in use you can just leave them in the grip and charge them.

>Because I don't ever plan on using this thing like a portable

This is a lie, considering you can use it as a portable AT HOME as well.

But if the grip is dead, which it will be eventually, you still need to plug it in. Same amount of effort

I'm going to be sharing mine with my girlfriend though, who has proven time and time again she can't charge shit and I'll probably have to end up charging them when I get home and play it.
>Source: My PS4 controllers are always fucking dead

That changes nothing. I'm not using it as a portable at home, either. I'm going to sit on my big comfy couch while I play this shit stretched out to some ungodly resolution on my giant fucking TV and that's just how shit is going to work.

I don't even use the fucking Wii U tablet unless it's absolutely forced, like the map in Xenoblade.

The charging grip just lets the joycons charge when plugged in. It has no battery itself.

Everything about the switch seems designed to rip off Nintendo fans in the most efficient way

The charge grip is really only if you're getting more than one set of joy-con, since otherwise there's no way to charge all sets of them simultaneously with the switch console itself having only two railings

You're an idiot. Where do you think the fucking power is coming from to charge them

You plug in the charging grip to to a USB port.
Just look at the official specs of the charging grip. It makes no mention of any battery.

The only difference between a charging grip and comfort grip is that the charging grip has a USB port.

It's a total rip off. That they're a) selling it for $30 and b) not including one instead of the comfort grip

Yeah, just plug it in. Instead of removing the JC to charge them in the system. Might save some wear and tear also.

Don't the joycons they sell seprately come with comfort grips?

No, you're thinking of the wrist strap thing that hooks on the top to give it shoulder buttons, forgot what they're calling it

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of.
What's a comfort grip then? The one that comes with the Switch is just called joycon grip.

>What's a comfort grip then? The one that comes with the Switch is just called joycon grip.
3rd party manufactures are calling it a comfort grip. I guess Nintendo is just calling it a grip. Same thing

Basically there are two different grips that give the joy-cons the "dog ears", one that has a USB port on it for charging and one that's just a piece of plastic. I think it's pretty ridiculous that there are even 2 types, I mean how much extra does a USB port cost? I guess they're figuring they'd have to include a USB cable too so they're just really pinching every penny

It does come with the switch itself, idiot.

Nope
Just a normal non-charging grip

No it doesn't. You get a piece of plastic that holds them together.

You have to buy the charging one separately.

Personally I couldn't care less about the charging grip, I'm buying a pro controller for TV gaming and the joycons will just be attached to the console all the time

remember when you were 10 playing sonic adventure 2 at andrew's house with a controller that was connected directly to the game console by way of a 15 foot cable?
man that was horrible I am glad those days are gone.

Get a load of this faggot

When I was ten I was playing on my dad's imported famicom where that shit was like three feet long and hardwired to the goddamn console

I love the wireless age so much
