I want to get into the FE series.
where do I start/ in what order do I play in
I want to get into the FE series
Other urls found in this thread:
From the beginning, you fucking idiot
With the one you just posted, Fire Emblem 7 or just Fire Emblem outside of Japan. After that play whatever one you want. Just remember
>FE5 takes place during FE4, play FE4 first
>FE10 is a sequel to FE9
>FE12 is a sequel to FE11
Start with Thracia 776, it's archaic and needs a translation patch but might be the easiest and most newcomer friendly Fire Emblem.
After that play Genealogy of The Holy War, Shadow Dragon, Conquest, Gaiden, either FE7 or 8, and end with Path Of Radiance followed by Awakening Hard Mode
That is the true way to play while slowly
Play only the best games in a increasingly difficult order
Ignore all these plebs and just start with Awakening like most people. It's a very good starting point and if you like the style of gameplay and want something like it go back for the older games.
You forgot
>FE7 is a prequel to FE6
basically do the opposite of what this faggot said
Just start with Awakening. The others before it are serious. Awakening makes it light hearted and gives you waifus and a dating sim.
Anything from GBA onward. The only ones I'd recommend against making your first game is Radiant Dawn(because it's a direct sequel to Path of Radiance) and Fates(because it's Fates).
Start wherever you want. It really doesn't matter.
I personally enjoyed FE7, 8 and the two Ike games. Awakening was ok. Fates I didn't enjoy as much. But you might have a different experience.
Start with Fire Emblem on GBA. Then move on to Awakening so you can taste how nu FE is. Then move on to Shadow Dragon for the series roots or Conquest for the best gameplay has ever been. After just play whichever.
Fates birthright then Awakening.
After that conquest and GBA games
What about the jap only ones?
Any recommended translations?
HOW!?
>Game series where most games have one game entirely their own story.
Anywhere you fucking mobile player.
Also from the start.
7,8,9 are all superb starting points, 7 especially. If you're into waifushit, then Awakening and Fates are more your speed.
>recommending Shadow Dragon
It's like you want him to drop the series.
This. Shadow Dragon a shit.
heroes is the only good FE game.
play the games in opposite order of what he said. thracia 776 is the hardest game in the series and you'll have serious trouble on some maps (fog of war completely blacks out areas out of range, and sometimes have locked doors that make a chapter unwinnable if you bring the wrong units).
7, 8, Path of Radiance, and Awakening are generally accepted as starting points to the series due to their accessibility and in-depth tutorials. Gaiden is kind of like 8/Awakening but is incredibly outdated and the remake is coming out in a few months anyway. Conquest has some of the best gameplay in the series to date, but can push your shit in if you don't know what you're doing. Genealogy is a bit of a slog to get through since the number of chapters is halved but the length of each chapter is basically doubled, but the story makes up for it.
Don't play shadow dragon.
Start with 7 (Just "Fire Emblem" in the west.)
It literally has a story to introduce westerners into the gameplay.
After that, play whatever the fuck you want.
Shadow Dragon is the best version of FE1 tho.
youtu.be
>moose poop is best poop
genealogy is easy as fuck you retard
awakening
it's still unplayable garbage regardless of version
It is the best version of FE 1, I don't think anyone with a brain will argue that. That doesn't make it a good game though.
mfw citra can't yet play awakening smoothly
>unplayable
Then how come multiple people have finished it?
>Awakening
And nothing of value was lost.
citra cant play anything smoothly
fuckin cemu runs better than this crap
it's a figure of speech cunt. the game plays like shit
i couldnt finish it. so boring.
Awakening. The waifuing saved this awful franchise with something to distract you from its mediocre to thrash story
I had this mindset when it came out after Radiant Dawn, and the fans thought it would add supports and more character to the units and world. That said, Marth's story is certainly worth a playthrough. FE1 is horribly dated and, aside from very minor characters, FE3 Book 1 is a remake of it but playable. FE11 is that same remake, but with the removed characters added back in, as well as new characters and chapters, and some QoL improvements. Also, FE3 Book 2/FE12 are great. In addition, the dialogue (not story, but the words they use to tell the story) is very good in 11. Play it, but definitely not first.
That said, I recommend starting with the one you posted, as many others in this thread have. It is where most English speakers started, and they stuck with the series for a reason. It has likable characters, a decent enough plot that serves well to connect the maps to each other, and it is easy enough for SRPG noobs, gradually increasing in difficulty pretty well so that you can utilize tactics learned earlier on in the game.
Barring that, Sacred Stones or Path of Radiance are great starting points as well.
My personal experience was 7, 8, 9, then I went back and played 6 (prequel to 7), 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 13, 12. Haven't played Fates, the newest one, as I wasn't a huge fan of Awakening, and it seems more of the same while the English versions also removed the 1 draw Fates had: waifu petting.
>Also, FE3 Book 2/FE12 are great.
This I can agree with at least, I enjoyed 12 much more than 11.
The self-insert was something I wanted since Fire Emblem 7's tactician, and I feel it handled it exceptionally well. You weren't the MC as in Awakening, you were just Marth's main nigga, like Jeigan, and having an avatar be a new recruit helped flesh out the other characters via conversations in base, especially the 7th platoon units. Awakening and Fates took the idea too far, placing far too much importance on it, in my opinion. But, even Book 2 was a vast improvement over Book 1, with every character having SOME role and lines while escalating in difficulty faster than Book 1, as it was assumed you played it. The story was also a step up, as it involved characters you had grown accustomed to in the first book.
How's the fan translation for FE12?
Fully completed.
What he said. Perfect, go play it at your leisure. Now the FE4 translation... I'm replaying it so that I can finally beat the entirety of 5 afterwards, but there are several translations nowadays, and I am not sure what one is most worth it. They all seem to have issues.
Wait, hol up, 5 finally has a good translation?
there's a new fe4 translation with is basically perfect except for using the new "official" names
new fe5 translation is at least being worked on but for now there's still just the busted one
From the beginning and stop at awakening. Nothing after 12 is worth playing.
Oh you almost had my hopes up... Fuck you.
Does fates have a patch for the japanese version making it completely english so nothing is cut out?
nothing relevant to gameplay was cut out
it will still be a garbage game
there are a few undub and uncensor .cias out there if you have a 3ds with cfw
If by good you mean it exists. Honestly, I played until chapter 18 or so (hence replaying 4), but last I heard (literally like 5 years ago) there were some unfinished parts. Don't let that stop you though, it's hella fun.
That was what bothered me, the new names completely throw me off and I can't shake the feeling that they are less fitting due to prior knowledge.
Awakening is the most newbie friendly.
After that you can go pretty much anywhere else.
There is friend, I myself will play it once I patch it, but as stated you need cfw for your 3ds, and mine is very recently patched so I need to jump through those hoops. You'll need a means of transferring files from your computer to the 3ds memory card, like a SD/USD converted (or was it microSD?)
7/8/9/10
Dead stop. Go back to older ones if you still care at that point.
you can wireless transfer files from your pc if you have a new3ds and stable wifi
I'll wait lad. From what I've heard the team/guy that just made the new translation for 4 is working on 5.
>and it seems more of the same while the English versions also removed the 1 draw Fates had: waifu petting.
You do realize that's like 10 seconds every hour? It's a shame they cut it, but the game is still the same when it comes to actual gameplay. Now if you complained about simplified dialogues, I'd get you.
>all these fags saying start with Awakening
I was 10 years old when I got FE7 and I did just fine.
The real reason to stay away from Fates unless JP is because they fucking ruined Effie.
Started with sacred stones, but I'm curious for those that started with Awakening if they find it hard to play the older ones without the My unit, marriage and kids, open map, and pair up bonuses.
>this hasn't been posted yet
Not OP
Finished the GBA ones. What next.
>>>>SD in optimal starts
NES then 3DS
9 is the best place to go from there unless you're eager for waifushit
9 and 10, followed by 4 and 5. Fit 11 and 12 in there sometime as well, but you can hold off on them for a bit.
Awakening then Fates, maybe sacred stones(you can emulate it own your phone) if you can get around the bad graphics.
Afterwards play Heroes on mobile
Dunno what happened to my 3DS SD Card I can no longer write anything on it.
So 3DS games can wait until Citra runs sorta well.
As opposed to a bunch of chucklefucks saying to start from the literal beginning?
>being an autist that takes things too literally
get a gba emulator.
Some games are two parters but it's a trend of different worlds like FF.
no, as opposed to playing a game that isn't shite
I have one on my phone, it has a filter/shader setting that can make the game look better, I have scanlines on and all the sames so far look really good
>using filters or scan lines
Kill yourself
>Sacred Stones
>Better Pacing than Blazing Blade
Yeah, no fucking way. 7 was perfect in that its 30 or so chapters were perfectly divided into 3 sections;
>Lyn's Story is an intro to the general setting and a bunch of characters/organizations
>The first 10 or so chapters of Eliwood/Hector mode up until the Dragon's gate are the perfect introduction to the big bad (Nergal) and also a resolution to the initial plot (the disappearance of Eliwood's Dad)
>The last 10+ chapters are an elaborate journey to find a way to stop Nergal for good, while having to destroy the Black Fang and avoid getting entangled in Bern's Royalty clusterfuck.
Meanwhile in SS
>First 8 Chapters are Eirika running after her brother who didn't even need her help
>After the split, Ephraim defeats an entire empire in the span of 8 chapters and Eirika literally accomplishes fucking nothing.
>The reunion chapters and the reclamation of their Castle
>Lol like 5 chapters to kill the demon lord or something
SS would have had much better pacing if the plot bounced back and forth between the siblings (which means they'd need more characters to split between the routes instead of copping out and double dipping).
It also really suffered from the nature of the GBA games' presentation, because it was basically impossible to convey a sense of scale to the war they were fighting (which they just half-heatedly mention every now and then)
Also, there wasn't ever an explanation for why the Soldier's of Grado fought like fucking maniacs even after the "king" was defeated.
Looks fine to me
Must Play Tier
FE8, PoR, RD
Should Play Tier
FE12, FE7, FE6
If you like FE a lot Play Tier
FE11, Thracia 776 (use a guide Jesus fuck those sadistic nips), FE5
They changed a lot but it's still ultimately Fire Emblem even if it has the most Mary/Gary Sue bullshit to date
Awakening, Fates/Conquest
Play if you REALLY like Fire Emblem and can stomach archaic design that has been immensely improved upon
FE1, FE2, FE3
Play if you're a faggot
Fire Emblem Heroes
Why the fuck would you purposely do this?
>playing metroid on a phone
Shit list.
Also mentions 5 twice.
i havent played a fire emblem game since sacred stones
did thieves become ranged units while i wasnt looking or is that a heroes-only thing
Superb taste.
Swap 7 and 8 and I agree 100%
Huh? Makes the game look less blurry for me
>playing with filters and scanlines
Just scanlines
It's a Ninja thing in Fates, but they said fuck it and made all thieves into ninjas for Heroes.
Oh, and once you've had your fill of official Fire Emblems, you get to experience the wonders of Fire Emblem modding for FE7 and 8.
They come in two categories. Finished and unfinished. Most are the latter.
Must play Tier
Gheb Emblem
Order of the Crimson Arm(in development)
Midnight Sun(unfinished)
Elibian Nights
I am a Masochist Tier
Any 0% growth rate hack
The Last Promise Tier
The Last Promise
You have to play that last one. Seriously. It's just, amazing in so many different ways.
Eh? Where, Thracia is 4, not 5 isn't it?
I hate rain so much man
And Battle Before Dawn.
Are you at least using simple 4x?
I love clean, crisp pixels, and things get a bit blurry playing at 1080p.
But fuck filters.
Turn off bilinear/anisotropic filtering then.
Scanlines are cancer.
So what changes in terms of balance would you all like to see in the next game?
Personally I feel doubling is a bit too strong and there should be something done to the speed and skill stats to sort of balance it out.
Doubling is fine, it's just that I think only select classes should get to double on average, you know Pegasus Knights and Myrmidons and Thieves and the like. Dudes with low amounts of strength should have high speed, and vice versa.
You either hit hard once or hit twice, y'know?
FE boils down to being able to one round enemies cause if you don't your guys are at risk of dying, so slow people always get benched, and people who can't reliably one round also get benched. The only real way to fix this is to make combat itself less lethal otherwise you're just making the game more tedious and prone to killing your guys.
Making combat last longer wouldn't inherently make the game more tedious if you just lower the amount of enemies per map. So the game becomes more tactical and less about blowing up enemies, but that style runs its own risks.
HQx4
Isn't Kamille a girl's name?
Woopz
Was actually a different thing, not scanlines though I don't think that'll change your opinion on it now will it?
That looks even worse.
>Playing Fates: Revelations
>Its a Nohr Units join 10 levels too low chapter
Why did they do this?
>HQx4.
Disgusting. It makes everything look muddy.
I love me some sharp pixels. Simple 4x or bust.
You can be a grill if you want to.
Yeah I guess you're right in it being helpful for fighting swathes of enemies compared to your party of 8 dudes. But I always felt that Swordmasters being such an op class in reliably dodging both physical and magical, attacking twice or four with brave weapons, and just being able to easily 1 round anything that's not a general or some form of dragon.
Seriously just use Simple 4x for the filter. All it does is upscale a bit so the image is crisp and not covered in vaseline like that abortion you just posted.
I'd like to see light classes like myrm and thief get a .5 ATK modifier against knights, like a reverse archer vs pegasus knight thing.
>His swordmasters only attack 2-4 times
Oh well, damn.
