Can Sonic ever really work in 3D?
Can Sonic ever really work in 3D?
Yes.
that looks goddamn horrendous
Just get the team behind the last Fzero game to do it.
>A GAME MADE BY ONE PERSON IN A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME AS A DEMO LOOKS HORRIBLE
>MY AUTISM IS NOT SHACKLED DOWN BY THE BURDENING GRIPS OF HUMAN DECENCY.
This looks like an indie product, what is?
You sound like an asshole. Never straw man.
Sonic Utopia tech demo.
Nice physics demo and I love the music and the Sonic design in it, but it doesn't have any real level design, stage gimmicks or clear goals so it doesn't really prove a lot by itself. It's nothing more than a glorified oversized test room at the end of the day.
True. They certainly could botch the real levels. But listening to that interview with the lead dev and hearing him talk about design so thoroughly I think it'll be good. The demo is already more fun than any of the 3D Sonic games, and shockingly less buggy.
>HEY YOU'RE STRAWMANING
>HEY YOU DO NOT KNOW THE FINE ART OF ARGUMENTS, I SEE.
how's that Asperger bro?
Looks like a test room of key stage design elements.
That classic small loop makes me smile.
Utopia -almost- gets the physics right; It conserves momentum like a proper Sonic game should, but it's a bit too floaty IMO
But beyond the physics, I don't like anything else about it. The camera is funky and the general sandboxyness isn't to my taste
My ideal 3D Sonic game would have tight, Adventure-esq stages with less boosters/scripted events and more reliance on momentum based obstacles
If only
Feels bad for them to design a nice ass 3D stage only for speedrunners to beat it in seconds.
I really like Generations, and think the boost formula is perfectly fine for a 'spectacle platformer', even if it isn't true to the roots of the old games
The problem with the boost games were less mechanics and more filler and stage design. Generations does a lot to fix both of those issues
Doesn't really look that well to me. It's a nice concept, but there seems like too much going on. The camera angle and the overall main perspective don't feel comfortable.
The only people that think 3d sonic is bad have never actually played 3d sonic games and only think theyre bad because of game grumps. Sonic adventure 1 & 2 are great and so is generations, colors, and heros.
>Haha you're only saying it's bad because ecelebs told you to!
This """"argument"""" needs to fuck off to die somewhere.
People were calling the Adventure games shitty well before GG was ever a thing
If you think Utopia is a good example of anything I've got bad news for you
>It's nothing more than a glorified oversized test room at the end of the day.
That's exactly what it's intended to be, though. Just a large playground for people to play around in.
The developers' actual project will have more straightforward level design.
You seem to know an awful lot about Game Grumps. I suppose I shouldn't expect anything less from a Sonic Heroes apologist of all people.
No, you don't. If you had an actual argument or any legitimate points to make you would have already stated them instead of making a shallow, meaningless post.
Sonic Adventure 2 is a great game and you can go fuck yourself.
>No, you don't. If you had an actual argument or any legitimate points to make
Chill out son, are you the dev or something?
I'm not here to argue about anything, Utopia's tech demo didn't show any promise and it wasn't impressive by any means in my opinion. If that hurts your feelings I'm sorry but I don't have to hold reservations about anything here.
Yes. It worked in daytime Unleashed, Colors and Generations.
Has it been perfected in 3D? That's another matter entirely.
>tfw just got a world record in Sonic The Fighters Arcade last night
Fuck you sonic is cool
>It worked in daytime Unleashed, Colors and Generations
I'd be hard pressed to call Colors or Generations 3D considering the large bulk of the gameplay is in 2D - probably about a 70/30 split. Hell even Unleashed is guilty of relying on 2D segments a little too much for my tastes
I'm talking specifically about the 3D segments in those games. I thought my post made that obvious.
>you can never admit you like Adventure 1 and 2
Not him but Heroes wasn't terrible. It just wasn't particularly good either. The basic idea of the game at least is better than either of the Adventures.
Sonic should, in theory, work better in 3d then in 2d since you can actually see shit in front of you.
I'd argue that, aside from the shitty camera, general jank, and the exact accleration curve, the sonic/shadow gameplay in Sa2 is basically the best core gameplay the series has ever had in actually accomplishing the design philosophy it sets out to do.
Yes and the 2d sections of all of them are shit
>Open level with no clear indication as to what direction to go
>Spastic camera that sometimes points directly downward while you are on the ground
It's shit and gives me a fucking headache.
>Can Sonic ever really work in 3D?
Sonic is a lazy NEET who hasn't worked a day in his life.
