Anyone played the Advance Wars: Dual Strike Wii U VC release?

Mostly curious if I can play local multiplayer.

>paying nintendo for gba roms they probably got off emuparadise

Emulate it user.

It's just convenient. I can pack up my Wii U and take it to my m8's place after work, no setup or hassle involved.

Though paying ten-fucking-dollars for a decade-old DS game is ridiculous, I'm willing to pay it, so long as I can pass the gamepad around for local multiplayer.

if its anything like black hole yes you can play local multiplayer its just a rom so its the same game you played on the ds

Just pirate it

I've actually read that Nintendo's released games on the VC before while literally removing all multiplayer content.

So logically I should be able to do it, I'm scared Miyamoto will jew me.

See:I don't want to bother with setting anything up; just going for the laziest, quickest option.

Then just buy it.

I had no problems pirating it on my WiiU

See: No reason to give these faggots a dime if I literally can't play multiplayer AT ALL.

I was just curious if anyone has actually bothered to test it. Google is pretty worthless in this regard.

Yes.

Just change blue / green / yellow to not-AI

In fog of war there's a splash screen where you hit A to start your turn

What the fuck is the dude in that screenshot doing?

You are my hero user.

I know I'm fucking retarded, I just have the cash and don't have the time.

I'll forever hate Fire Emblem for indirectly ending the Advance Wars franchise.

yw

What other AW alternatives have you lot played and enjoyed?

I tried Warbits, and while that was decent at first, it became shit as soon as the equivalent for CO powers was introduced, because it there's a go to formula that basically everyone only uses. I don't know if it was patched or changed since then, but I doubt it.
I tried Front Wars, but the controls were shoddy and it would freeze up on me. The game was decent when this wasn't happening, but I recall some of the missions were borderline bullshit.
I tried the fan-versions of these two games in pic related, but it was lacking in things found in the original JAVA version, including music, animations, etc. Plus some of the missions and unit dispatches were changed to be stupidly harder without thought to balance. The first game's fan version was worse than the second, which was actually a pretty decent game from what I played, but I just felt like playing the original instead of the watered down version (even though it was thankfully more even and fair).

I haven't played Nectaris / Military Madness in a while, but despite the hexagon format, I've always liked the series.

>AW alternatives

News to fucking me.

The only thing I recall was playing Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars.

I remember nothing about it, beyond it being pretty fantastic for the time.

The ones I mentioned before are mobile games, but Nectaris goes way back. Basically a 3rd party reply to Nintendo's "Wars" series.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nectaris_series
Hudson also worked on Game Boy Wars, which is basically Nectaris with a "Nintendo Wars" skin, since both games (except the third?) use a hex-format.
A handful of things from Hudson's series and Game Boy Wars ended up being used in the main Wars series as well. Not a lot, but you'll notice some that weren't in Famicom or Super Famicom Wars, but were in Nectaris and Game Boy Wars first.

That game was also pretty cool by the way.
Was pretty much nothing like the main games, but the game itself was neat, and the battles being similar to the Goemon Impact battles was neat.

>Fire Emblem
>ending Advance Wars
How do you figure? I'd blame Days of Ruin moreso for that. Took all the charm out of the games.

I think the sales from Waifu Simulator: Baby's First Strategy Game were too tempting to pass up, compared to AW - which was a semi-hardcore console TBS.

Days of Ruin was definitely a step back, but I seriously don't believe it was the primary reason for ending a great, decades-old franchise.

But there was a four year gap between DoR and FEA.

And then they completely stopped making AW.

You could try one of the many versions of Empire, which was the game that started it all

They figured we wanted Codename Steam instead.
They were wrong.

I'll give it a whirl one day.

Advance Wars used to let you do multiplayer with a single console. You'd pass it back and forth between turns.

I don't see why that wouldn't be possible.

Are you implying Codename Steam was the same developer?

Yes. Are you by chance a dumdum?

I ignored that game completely, truth be told.

Now I'm even more sad.

Codename S.T.E.A.M was still a worthwile game though for a TBS without any level ups. It's kind of like a grid based Hogs of War.

How is taking your Wii U more convenient than taking any of the systems that AW was originally released on? Why would you re-buy a game on a less portable system for "convenience"?

My friends don't have DS's, or the game. Being able to buy it on my Wii U lets us all play together in somebody's living room on the TV with ease.

I'm 30.

>Being able to buy it on my Wii U lets us all play together in somebody's living room on the TV with ease.
Don't you need the whole Wii U to hook it up to your friends TV?

I can just leave my Wii U in my car between shifts. Shit's relatively small, and I don't really care if I break it.

This is also in comparison with 3-4 other people buying DS's and the game and having to bring them.

It's vastly more convenient.

System to System local multiplayer is right out but hotseat multiplayer should be fine.

>Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars.
thank you user, I never knew this existed

Codename STEAM was great apart from the enemy turn times.
In an ideal world, the 3DS should have had an Advance Wars game instead of Fire Emblem Fates though.

Sounds like a fun way to play vidya with friends. Have fun user.

not too late for a switch return, right? also i know we're talking about srpgs right now but was anyone else a fan of Battalion Wars? those games were fun

I hope so.
I'd honestly like a port/sequel of Codename STEAM on the Switch just as much as a new Advance Wars.

>This is also in comparison with 3-4 other people buying DS's and the game and having to bring them.

Advance Wars supports hotseat multiplayer, just bring a GBA or DS you already own with the game and pass it around.

>hasn't pirated his Wii U in 2017

That's how we played Might and Magic back in the day. One played his round, the other people watched TV or did some other shit. And then we switched seats.

>fixed everything
>ruined the series
