How is N64 emulation? I've heard mixed things about it. Any good emulators out there? Do they have gamepad support?

While not perfect, Its pretty good noway. Download the latest project 64 at Emuparadise and a lot of games are played perfectly

Alright, I'll try it out. Thanks.

What games you looking to play user, I played most I be able tell the games compatible just don't give an obscure game lol

Well, Banjo, obviously, given my op pic. I also might wanna play SM64 too

Both are 100% but n64 emulation on a whole isn't great. bomberman and paper Mario are troublesome though along with others

That's why you use the Dolphin version of Paper Mario.
Thats right, emulating a Wii that's emulating the N64 is better than just emulating the N64.

The most recent version of Project64 runs Paper Mario well, with the Glide64 graphics option.

It used to flicker like hell, but it's fine now.

I heard project64 is a virus

It used to be packed with malware, but they removed it.
Does it work with igpu? I hate when people say that n64 emulation is bad when they try to run the emulator with a stupid igpu. You need minimum a 1050/460.

GPU is nearly irrelevant for emulation, it's mostly CPU based

That's what they say, but then my old igpu emulated paper mario horribly.
Now that i got a proper video card, it is almost flawless.

>You need minimum a 1050/460
thats why they say its bad

I bought a USB N64 controller for N64 emulations and never used it. The N64 was terrible.

Don't fucking recommend Project 64. That shit is cancer.

Can't even afford 110 usd? that's pretty sad, desu. Specially being on Sup Forums of all places. You can use a crappy psu and stil do perfectly fine with a 1050/460, no need for the ti/4gb version even.

>Implying muppen and 1964 are better
Post some screens, I dare you.

It's the only one that I can get to run the Vigilante 8 games. The Playstation versions are inferior.

The nice thing is OP, if emulation does not work out for you, N64's are still quite cheap and available. And because they have no moving parts and were made during the 1990's those things are tough as fuck. I doubt an N64 will ever fail you if you take care of it right.

Im more a sony pony, but my N64-chan has a big place in my heart. I didn't get an N64 till 2002, so well into the PS2 era. I had played the likes of GTA III, but somehow, it was Ocarina of Time that felt fucking real to me. I felt like "imma go climb that cloudy mountain" and when i was at the top it was cool to see the fields and towns below. Low poly, alow framerates and flat jpegs to represent far off towns but A better time.

What's with the rounded sprites? Looks like fucking filtered shit.

Looks fucking garbage dude, what the fuck

>looks fucking garbage
>doesn't post another pic from another emulator
Better luck next time.

It is filtered.

There is something so feel good about N64 games, idk what it is. Maybe it's the typical graphic style of the console. Check out Aidyn Chronicles if you haven't, really underrated RPG.

I don't know how you can seriously play with sprites looking like that.

>Almost the same
Laffin at you m8y

it works great for me. eat shit fagposter

>giving a shit about filters

its almost like you eat a bag of dicks

>The N64 was terrible.

neo Sup Forums everyibe

Yeah mate.

I usually don't care. I like enhancements, but not when they ruin graphics. Higher internal resolution with nearest neighbour UI elements is the way to go. Sadly most N64 emulators don't give a shit about it.

Nintenyearold detected. Shit console, with garbage games. PSX was better in every way. Deal with it little bitch pussy fuckboy.

If you are really this autistic, just get a n64 and a flashcart and stop emulating.

It is, by an utterly massive margin, the most overrated console ever made.

Already have a n64, and a lot o carts from my childhood. I prefer playing on my PC though.

Or want to play Banjo tootie.

Ok autismo.

-_-

>with garbage games
>PSX was better in every way
your average Sonygger everyone!

Lakka seems to handle N64 pretty much fine however some games can barely run above 25 FPS even with modern hardware.

I hear one of the hardest games to emulate well is Conkers Bad Fur Day

Not an argument. Have you changed your manchild sized diaper recently?

Conker run fine.
It's DK64 and Banjo tootie that gets the short end of the stick, because they depend on certain specific system timings to run some of the minigames, and project 64 only gets this timing worse and worse.

>it's a muh N64 was better because my shit childhood friends would play with me nostalgia episode

user... I own an N64 too, but this nigger speaks some of the truth. The N64 was a fantastic supliment to owning a PS.

The N64 had what? 12 worthwhile games? And before you say quality over quantity, the PS had 5 for every 1 that N64 had.

I love muh N64 very much and play it to this day but i will not be revisionist, the PlayStation owned that gen fuckig hard and it was its first fucking go at it, against two overwhelming industry titans.

And then they did it again with PS2, and again with PS3. I became a mustard race after that so I don't give a fuck about what happens this gen.

GlupeN64 is the most accurate but you have to deal with RetroArch

Then burn a dreamcast copy. It's not rocket science user...

>you have to deal with RetroArch

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Nah N64 has around 30 great games and like 20 decent ones. Admittely after that the good games get kind of scarce. But if you dig a little you find some really good stuff. Plus N64 has a lot of WAY better multiplat versions (Shadowman and Glover comes to mind) and some games that retrospectively are much better than you remembered (like Flying Dragon)

Just buy one of these famarino.

krikzz.com/store/

Its pricy, but they let you shove an SD card full of vidya roms into various game cartridges and play them on the actual consoles.

krikzz.com/store/

doesnt it come with malware now?

>How is N64 emulation?
Still shit tier except for a few popular games. Better than nothing if you don't have an N64, though.

>better multiplats
>names 2

That said i think these games stand out for as own worty for the N64

Super Mario 64
Mario kart 64
Super smash bros
Lylat wars
Ocarina of time
Majoras mask
Goldeneye
Mischief Makers
Yoshi's story
Star wars:Shadow of the empire
Resident Evil 2

I actually did not like Banjo really...

If we were talking general emulation, or Wii, Gamecube, or PS2 emulation, you'd be wrong, kiddo.

In the case of N64 though, it is indeed heavily CPU based. That has to do with graphical options not being as wide-ranging as the consoles that followed it.

Remember to lift cpu restrictions so Banjo runs at a steady framerate.

Way more good N64 games than those. Try out Ogre Battle 64, Aidyn Chronicles, Turok, Jet Force Gemini for one

I always feel uneasy looking at those old gradient-abyss skyboxes.

I plugged my N64 back in recently. I've emulated from time to time and even though emulation is perfectly fine and playable it just isn't quite the same as the original thing, there's something about the flawless nature of the original and I find it much easier to play on.
Even though it uses a shitty old RF cable to connect and I need to tune my TV to pick it up and there's still a little bit of static and the signal isn't clear so the edges come out a bit blurry, it looks great. I think I'm just going to go through all my old games, I love a lot of N64 titles.

Why would anyone even use this? Why would anyone want to play with the awful N64 controller? Playing N64 games with a modern controller feels so much better.

This stuff too.
I was always paranoid that I might accidentally fall in to the endless voids as a kid which freaked me the fuck out conceptually.
I also remember flipping the power switch on my N64 the first time Mumbo transformed me because it scared the shit out of me.

>12 worthwhile games?

Mario 64
Mario Kart
Zelda OoT
Zelda MM
Jet Force Gemini
Mischief Makers
Banjo 1
Banjo 2
F Zero X
Starfox
DK 64
Buck Bumble
Pokemon Stadium 1
Pokemon Stadium 2
Pokemon Snap
1080 Snowboarding
Goldeneye 007
Perfect Dark
Smash Bros

And I bet I've missed twice as many.

yeah the playstation owned that gen besides the fact that sony hadn't heard of any developments in the field of computer rendering since the year nineteen seventy

I'm trying to get back into emulation after how nice Super Mario 3D World ran on the Wii U emulator. Awesome game.

I never owned the N64 so it might be a nice option. Any games that aged REALLY well?

>project 64
fuck off

Cen64 runs way better than p64

SM64, Zelda games, Rare games, Ogre Battle are a good start.

>Aidyn Chronicles
that game was the biggest disappointment of my life. I read an article about it in nintendo power and asked my parents to get it for me for my birthday, but then it ended up getting delayed so they gave me a coupon for it. then when it finally came out like a year later I thought it was crap. I don't know if it was actually bad or if it just wasn't what I was expecting but I was super let down.

Good
Shit
Shit
Shit
Shit
Shit
Good

Good
Shit
Shit

Very shit
Shit

Good
Shit

Care to elaborate on any of those opinions?

>Pokemon Stadium 1 & Pokemon Stadium 2
>2 Zeldas
>Snowboarding
>3D platforms

What a vast and diverse collection!

to be fair it had PD, one of the greatest games ever.

Well it did have sports game too I just don't much care for them personally.
The only one I own is NBA Live, can't remember where I picked it up from. It's okay.

Sure thing, Perfect Dark is the best N64 game by miles.

All im getting from you user is that you think its "good shit."

I doubt I would disagree with you if we sat and talked it out but I fail to see how that makes every other game objective shit.

Nintendo emulators have always fared the best out of any emulation scene.

Now if you had asked how Sega emulation was going, it'd be a trickier question. Anyway Nintendo emulation is fine.

Mischief Makers had a cute robot girl protagonist, and a cute art style, but we both know the game sucked.

Nintendo's Neptunia.

Nigga Treasure always delivers.

I actually enjoyed this game!

>People shit on DK64 all the time
>I always enjoyed it thoroughly

Seriously?

It has an interesting atmosphere, qt loli, working mirrors! Just had to use savestates to endure a couple parts and it was fun.

I was a bit weirded out by it in the beginning because I thought the graphics were ugly and the combat felt a bit floaty. It got much better as I stuck with it, the story was pretty good and I enjoyed exploring the world. Also there's the novelty of a full fledged RPG for the N64. How far did you get?

Yeah this is one of those games that are much better than given credit for looking back. Don't even remember why it was so hated

With most old games they are hated because some popular let's player told his fans it was a bad game.
Rarely have the people who discuss games today even touched an N64 let alone played Castlevania.

Wasn't there some JP monster raising JRPG for the N64? How was that? Also how was that JP exclusive fishing game with RPG elements Nintendo made? It looked comfy.

Castlevania 64 was despised long before let's players even existed, what the fuck are you even talking about?

Weird controls, bullshit diffcult at some parts (carrying that fucking nitro around), some fans felt that it fucked with the setting too much.

The first release was almost unplayeable because of the controls, later they released a better version called legacy of darkness, but the damage was done already.

It was hated at the time.

I think I barely got out of the first town. I didn't like the fact that using magic lowered your hp which upset me for some reason.
