Just beat pic related, what are some other good classic GBA games I should play? Also can we talk about how good this game is/zero misson?
Just beat pic related, what are some other good classic GBA games I should play...
I like Fusion a lot, definitely some of my favorite boss fights in the series. I've played more Zero Mission though, I used to bring my GBA to school and do sequence-breaking runs during class.
As for other GBA games I remember Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow being good.
I wish some could make a romhack of ZM with Super levels. Everything just feels so fast and perfect in ZM. The only thing I hate about Super is how slow and floaty everything feels.
I would like to play Super with ZM's controls but I'm sure there's a romhack for that.
I was thinking maybe Fire Emblem or Golden Sun but I've never played anything in those series, and I feel like they're 20+ hour.
Bomberman Tournament.
Astro Boy
Omega factor?
Not him but I'm sure that's the one he means
Yea
Man, I miss 2D Metroid and Castlevania. They always felt really tightly focused in their design.
Indie Metroidvania's can be alright, but often feel a bit messy or uninspired.
Zero Mission is fine. It's pretty much a mixture of Super and Fusion.
There is. It's called Control Freak.
Faggot.
I wasn't the only one who played this?
Fusion is my favorite metroid. Zero mission is amazing as well.
Play Aria of Sorrow, Harvest Moon FOMT, FF Tactics, Fire Emblem, Summon Night
Castlevania never felt very focused to me. The Metroidvanias anyway. SotN is basically the kitchen sink of game design.
...
>Fusion is my favorite metroid
Controversial opinion, but I wish it weren't.
this game is absolutely amazing, those butt machine guns hooo weee.
Damn, Fusion was so tense. I legimately felt like playing Alien at times. Very nice atmosphere.
It took me too long to think of this
Not surprising given that Metroid was largely inspired by Alien.
Wasn't there meant to be a Metroid-like Aliens game on DS?
>mfw Shantae fans call their series a metroidvania
Add Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
Only the first two games really fit that vein. The other two are more action-platforming focused.
Aliens: Infestation?
Yeah, that. How was that game?
Haven't played it yet, I still have a lot games to finish. But I keep wasting time here.
>tfw the franchise improved a lot when it ditched the Metroidvania style
>.
i'm currently playing the first Golden Sun now and while it was fun for a while, the game gets pretty repetitive and I feel like it's a chore to finish
Castlevania isn't quite as tightly focused as Metroid, I agree. But its still a lot more focused compared to most indie games that try to ape the style.
Fusion is a pretty bad game, I don't know why you would take an open platformer concept and make it.... not open. I only ever replay the game because of nostalgia but even I can see the flaws. Zero Mission is just overall better.
Zero Mission is my favorite 2D Metroid, hands down. I still have a GBA that I break out and play it on to this day. I hear all this crap about how great SM is better but I don't feel it at all. If people are being stupid about the beacons they can ignore (or possibly deactivate).
Never played AM2R though, so I might like that one if I ever tried it.
I wouldn't say Fusion is bad. Its the weakest of the 2D metroids, but nowhere near Other M tier.
I wish it wasn't so linear, but the horror scenes were top notch
>First SA-X appearance as you use the elvator and the camera doesn't follow
>When you see the frozen Ridley, either by giving a quick look before you get the resistance to cold or at the planned time when dropping from th roof
>OP pic and other SA-X chases
>The scientist SA-X
>The Metroid laboratory
>Adam AI going full HALL right after
>"There are at least 10 SA-X in the ship right now"
Am I forgetting one?
>Missing the entire point of the plot
If anything Fusion is closest to original inspiration the Metroid devs got from watching Alien.
If you played Metroid II, the lab actually spoils the final boss.
Super>fusion>zero>original>metroid2
Faggots harp on about the Chozo Statues and Chozodia but those aren't even really an issue.
The exploration isn't as good as Super, the combat isn't as good as Fusion. The atmosphere, music and graphics aren't as good as either. It's not bad, it's just not exceptional.
AM2R is like Zero Mission and Fusion mixed together except with worse production values and a few more moves. I think you'd like it.
Metroid 1 and 2 were worse.
I think it really works for Fusion.
If they removed exploration and just left it then there'd be a problem, but Fusion's areas are the most dynamic and change in all sorts of ways over the course of the game.
>AM2R is like Zero Mission and Fusion mixed together except with worse production values and a few more moves. I think you'd like it.
Exactly. Extremely good fangame but as a main metroid? No.
Definitely add Chain of Memories
>Robopon
You mean I wasn't the only one?
I spent embarassing amount of hours on Aria of Sorrow. It was probably the best diablo-esque game on GBA.
You forgot
>eerie face melting gravity manipulating robocat
And creepy boss music that goes with it.
>Metroid 1 and 2 were worse.
True.
>diablo-esque
Huh?
The melted face hilarious and the music was groovy, what are you talking about. The masked phase where it's crying green goo is more unsettling.
Why are Castlevania and Metroid under Action, when theres already a Platformer category?
Grinding souls.
