Don't play it. Pillars of Eternity is really boring and mediocre

>Don't play it. Pillars of Eternity is really boring and mediocre.
>Play through it
>It's the best RPG of the past five years
Why is Sup Forums always fucking wrong about everything?

Sup Forums will tell you that Divinity: Original Sin (Game with neat combat and awful story) and Age of Decadence (Poorly designed CYOA bullshit) are any good while shitting on Pillars of Eternity and Underrail.

Its almost like you should in try things for yourself and not just trust a bunch of stranges to form your opinion on a subjetive matter.

Really makes you think.

So boring I couldn't bring myself to open the game to keep playing in act 3

Dull roster.

Not enough spells and cool abilities. Armors look like shit.

Replayed through nwn1 OC, HotU and all of nwn2 and expansions a week after and was a happy boy once again

you're both right. it's boring and mediocre, but its still the best rpg of the past 5 years because everything else is even worse.

Oh, and let's not forget The Witcher 3 (GOTYAY according to Sup Forums), which is just as bad as The Elder Scrolls series in how tedious and spread out its content is.

Haven't seen anything about Underrail on Sup Forums but praise. All of these games you sorted provide very different experience and good at different things. Divinity has good tactical combat with lots of environmental mechanics, Age of Decadence has great reactivity, Pillars is a literal BG of our time (just as watered down and bleak, though solid foundation for new games) and Underrail has great variety for character builds. The only thing these games have in common is an isometric view.

bait

>Play it
>Can't find a comfortable class/stat distribution
>Go back to playing goldbox

Talents are really uninspired, I'm level 6 and now I feel like i just pick the less shitty one

They spell it out for you and tell you which stats you should concentrate in depending on your class if you have Expert mode turned off.

Both of those games are great. So is Pillars.
You have shit taste.

Yeah, you're largely just picking them for their roleplaying capabilities, to be honest. All you really need is a guy that's maxed out in mechanics to look for loot and someone that's maxed in Stealth to steal shit.

I was thinking about feat but yeah, some skills feel pointless to have on several characters. Survival and lore are ok though

It's all the rpgcodex retards who hyped it up as the saviour of rpgs and the greatest game ever made and then got pissy when it had flaws

I finished it today, after trying my hardest to play it.

It's not bad, but I can't say I liked it.

>while shitting on Pillars of Eternity and Underrail
>shitting on Underrail

I've never seen anyone shitting on it. The game is so niche even trolls don't bother shitposting in Underrail threads. It reminds me of Demon's Souls discussions back when you had to import the asian version to play it.

It was Obsidian who hyped it up that way, and not the codex. I'm sure you don't mind that the game is at best mediocre if you were never invested, either financially or emotionally, but this is not just a random game that got released with no strings attached.

It's called social bias. It governs many opinions.

I enjoy both Original Sin (combat is great, co-op is fun as fuck) and Pillars (writing has its highs, a lot of systems really please my autism, and it's actually enjoyable after 3 years of patching).
What now?

Stats are meaningless in PoE, 3 might vs 20 might barely has any effect on damage.

rpgcodex hypes up divos, underrail, witcher 3, shadowrun dragonfall and age of decadence as the best RPGs in recent time

pillars is controversial

Bullshit

3 might means -21% damage and healing from 10 might
20 means +30% damage and healing from 10 might
It's pretty significant.

90% of Sup Forums likes Overwatch don't listen to them

...

This again? Fuck mate, do you really want me to grab a calculator and compare damage difference based on what other attributes you put your points into instead of Might? I almost done it last time, but it'll be an awful lot of work and I'd prefer not to. The entire point of the "stats are meaningless" argument was that almost everything compensates for almost everything else.

The only other stat that gives comparable benefits to might for damage is Dex

None of the others do, what the fuck are you tlking about

If you don't agree with every single codex consensus, then you don't belong on Sup Forums and should fuck off back to 'eddit.

this desu

The guy arguing with you before, that's not me but if you don't see how people aren't convinced that 50% damage difference is not significant, well, good luck with that.

You must have skipped 80% of that dialogue-dump and have high tollerance for shitty combat to think that PoE was great in any regard.

>BG2 fans.jpg

Not him, but
>dialogue-dump
There's never a reason to touch the backer NPCs.
>shitty combat
Better than IE garbage combat, at least.

Are you excite 4 deadfire?

Hell no fuck RTWP

Even without the backer NPCs the writing in the game is atrocious

He's confident but he's not wrong. The campaign is doing exceedingly well and I can definitely see it breaking 4M if the usual "First day and last day are barrages" clause applies.

I know I'm probably gonna back this soon.

8TH COMPANION STRETCH GOAL WHEN?

For being a classic revival crpg the setting was rather boring. I didn't get further than the first city since nothing exciting has happened yet.
Does it get better or does it stay as dull as the first act?
There was literally nothing exciting happening, at least tyranny hooked me on character creation and first act even though it turns to shit later on.

fuck rpg codex

Did you get to Dryford? I like Act 3 a lot but it's pretty unpopular around here.

Nyah!

I think the problem is that a lot of people jump in and expect another baldur's gate, instead they find a wholly different rpg with different rules and mechanics.
Also way harder to play as well since there's barely anything to really exploit.

Weirdo

Act 2 really started to drag midway.

>Dryford
No, the first village can't remember the name.

>Also way harder to play as well since there's barely anything to really exploit.
This is the secret reason why Sup Forums hates it. It ain't fun if you can't easily break the game by playing Fighter/Mage or Fighter/Thief or destroy every single boss fight after 2 minutes of carefully planned prebuffing.

FUCK RPGCODEX, FUCK DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, FUCK REAL WITH WITH PAUSE, FUCK JOSH SAWYER, FUCK AVELLONE, FUCK OBSIDIAN, FUCK UNDERRAIL AND FUCK YOU

On topic. If I want to try Baldurs Gate 2 should I go for the enhanced edition? And do I need the ancient BA1 to understand what's happening in 2?

There was a BG2 thread the other day, most people talked about romances and other companion interactions.

>Dryford
Dyrford is pretty bad desu, the big quest is kinda interesting but the dungeon is a fucking chore

Why do the Defiance Bay factions suck so much? I wish I could go straight to Lady Webb for an invite instead of having to piss all three off, I couldn't care less about generic boring factions in generic boring city.

>I couldn't care less about generic boring factions in generic boring city.
This, I have no idea why everyone love Defiance Bay so much but i'd rather hangout with the tree hugging elves and furry

>should I go for the enhanced edition?
idk lol

You can jump straight into BG2, they recap BG1 for you.

I like the factions but they dropped the ball on them by making them not matter later. Thankfully they promised to fix that in 2.

I liked the Knights. Sided with them every time.

Actually, there was one play-through where I sided with the mafia just to see how it would feel. Hated it. Knights are better.

Unless you plan on using some mods in particular like Ascension, you should just play the updated version.
As for BG1 you can just read a quick summary, the important stuff only happens in BG2/ToB.

>listening to Sup Forums
>ever

Sup Forums is 50% contrarians who hate everything that's good and 50% children who think "RPG" means "an action game where you can level up". They're the last people you should trust the opinions of.

>Skipping on the comfy good game to play the shit overrated sequel.

The EE is fine but don't give your money to Beamdog
>And do I need the ancient BA1 to understand what's happening in 2?
No, but I'd still play it, it makes the journey much more satisfying imo

I can't imagine how anyone would find low level D&D gameplay "comfy".

I love that new bg2 is shit meme

>Even without the backer NPCs the writing in the game is atrocious
Why? And try to answer without meme shit like "LOL THEY CALL VAMPIRES VAMPYRS"

>While I like the factions we developed for Defiance Bay, I don’t think we used them to their potential. Defiance Bay has a few structural problems, the first of which is the three-way main quest split that sends you to Heritage Hill, Clîaban Rilag, and Brackenbury Sanitarium. I’ve never seen the player benefit of “go do these N things in any order” main quest branches (e.g. Neverwinter Nights OC, KotOR 2) if there’s not a compelling motivation for the player to make an informed decision about that order. They’re also inherently difficult to balance around because you can usually expect at least a 2 level difference from beginning to end. In the middle of the level range, that’s hard to compensate for.
>Faction quest splits at least have the benefit of introducing you to an organization where you can have an ideological (or simply preferential) basis for picking one over the others. I liked the Dozens, Crucible Knights, and Doemenels, but due to the afore-mentioned split, your involvement with them generally comes later in act II, is compressed, and then abandoned when you head to Twin Elms. Also, I think people rightly complained that you don’t get enough warning that you’re cutting off other faction paths when you start doing quests for one in particular.
>I’m sensitive to the order in which factions are introduced to players, how the player is motivated to work with/against them, and how to best “lock” players into a committed choice. It’s something I’m paying a lot of attention to for the future.

t. Josh Sawyer

because they all were "you're either with us or against us" and they're only relevant for one act
you never hear from them again after the hearing at the castle

Damn, Obsidian sure haven't shied away from self-criticism when it comes to pillars. They nitpick it almost as much as we do.

Sawyer isn't called an autist for nothing.

>I’ve never seen the player benefit of “go do these N things in any order” main quest branches (e.g. Neverwinter Nights OC, KotOR 2) if there’s not a compelling motivation for the player to make an informed decision about that order
>still did anyway

That's Sawyer. He did like a 1.5 hour interview with a RPGCodex representative after giving a GDC presentation despite Sawyer-hate being a meme on the Codex.

Nah, Diablo 2 is still king.

I dunno how Blizzard fucked up Diablo 3 this badly. Why simplify fucking everything?

Sup Forums is usually wrong when it comes to Obsidian hate. They're /ourguys/.

>POE2
>still no romances
This is just pure autism at this point.
Especially since they already made a bioware game with tyranny.
That has
>bad plot
>your choices don't matter in the end
>lack of meaningful character depth
>shitty companions
What seperates them from bioware at this point in time? Other than their "no romance" autism.

It had too many enemies, but I still had fun with it.

Tyranny was made by the B-Team. No Sawyer or Fenstermaker to set them straight.

Are they proud of themselves for letting the B-Team ruin their cred?

This has the worst hook in the history of roleplaying games, if not games as a whole. The complete blunder that is the beginning, which leaves you with no sense of direction or any personal antipathy toward the villain, is enough to make this game mediocre in and of itself.

And then it's also not a very good game. Sorry about your taste.

>he wants to fuck the nigger bird this bad
Either way, when asked about romances in PoE2, Sawyer straight up avoided the question. Seems like something is happening.

Probably not, I'd imagine. Tyranny was so shit it hurt.

he wasn't the main story quest/narrative designer in Pillars 1
He was the co-Systems Designer, Lead Designer and Project Director.

In Pillars 2 he's the Project Director and Lead Narrative Designer

How does BA2 compare to this? Does it do everything better?

>3 million stretch goal: ROMANCE
This would be the worst. The PoE community would be ruined by waifufags.

>Diablo 2
>RPG

Romancenigger pls go

Can you build a priest to be like the villain?

Yes want to fuck that nigger bird. I wantt o play my crpgs and fuck my companions. I PAY FOR MY GAMES IS THAT MUCH TO ASK FOR FUCK

Because most of the people here are children who parrot and exaggerate as time goes on. No one here plays videogames. Everyone is a faggot. You, me, everyone.

Literally everytime a sequal comes out, the last one was better. Anytime something gets popular, it gets shit on. If one guy says something favorable about something, he is either a shill or has pleb taste.

Why the fuck do you take anything posted here seriously? Are you brain damaged?

What the fuck was his problem?

>Lead Narrative Designer
Good. The story in POE was pure boredom.
I hope they realized this.

it's the same role he had for Fallout: New Vegas. The story there wasn't very exciting, but it gave you freedom and the factions were very good.

So while I'm not expecting an epic-story for PoE2, I'm at least expecting more freedom in how you interact with the world.

got pranked and now will wage revenge against Woedica and Magran

you can be extremely powerfull with self buffs, but you won't have all the soul hopping thing and mind control AOEs he has

NEW TORMENT IS THIS FUCKING MONTH

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I think they were a bit disappointed with it desu, then again it saved their company so they're probably happy about that.

Diablo 2 is barely an RPG, it's just an action game with stats and level-ups. Also, it's not released in the last 5 years.

>InXile
>Torment
>no Avellone
>8 stretch goals cut from the final game
>delayed because of a console release despite early promises that it wouldn't
who gives a shit

I want to buy it. Though the steam reviews in february make me worried. Why are they still complaining about the game being unplayable this close to release? They play the latest build,no?

I will forever hate Bioware for popularizing the idea that CRPG means adventure dating sim and creating a fanbase like you.

>It's the best RPG of the past five years
That was my main complaint actually.
Why play this when BG2 is better in every way?

It looks like shit but I'm still gonna play it. This is the last Inxile game I give a fuck about coming out within the next 5 years.

I thought it was meh.

A game like this with bad combat more or less needs either some damn good RPG mechanics, or some damn good story and world, and Pillars had neither in my opinion. They weren't bad. Just not interesting enough to make it worth playing through.

It's definitely not unplayable.

I haven't played it a whole lot because I don't want to spoil it for myself, but what little I have played was good. The only complaint I have at the moment is that the combat is pointlessly awkward. But then, almost everyone agrees that the combat was the weakest point of Planet Escape Tournament as well, so I guess that's par for the course.

Speaking of Underrail, why are there next to zero more threads about it? We had quite a few last year, but not anymore, apparently.
Did everyone who wanted to play it already did and is now waiting for the expansion or something?
