Gothic II gets a ton of praise, is it just a better game than the first one? I was thinking of getting into these games for the first time, but I'm unsure what mindset I should have going into them.
it's better and easier to get into than 2, but still it combat and controls take a while to get used to.
that's not gothic 3 though
than 1*
...
...
G1 is the original and first, but because it was the (((first))) the devs couldnt get everything right. but there is very little wrong with the game, actually almost nothing. its completely playable, and by far a superior game to all modern games
G2 just improves on G1, everyhing G1 did right, G2 has and even improves upon it.
one thing to remember, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING YOUR MOUSE
and when you are playing g1, the controls might seem ... chaotic at first, but actually they are fine. its just a different system, not a bad one.
>DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING YOUR MOUSE
Don't remember G1 but I've always played G2 with mouse and it was absolutely fine
Jesus fucking christ how I hate those faggots.I'm a huge gothicfag, I also loved Morrowind and enjoyed Witcher 3. I don't understand for shit why do you retards insist on those game wars, comparing games that are so inherently different from each other that every single conclusion concerning one game's ultimate superiority will be retarded.
This games are different. They are all great.
Did Gothic put the most attention to detail out of the three? Yeah.
Did Morrowind have the best system of clues leading the player to the goal (npcs telling you where to go)? Yeah.
Did Witcher 3 have a vast open world with great side quests and stories related to monsters, events etc? Yeah.
Was any one of them ultimately superior to others in every aspect? No. Fuck you. Why do you fags can't accept that some people enjoy games that you didn't? There is nothing more pathetic.
Also, how retarded one must be to talk about true RPG experience only having played one fucking game, and a computer one? Jesus
...
i couldnt get around it.. maybe there are some new patches or fixes, idk, but i remember g1 being almost unplayable with a mouse.. also 2handed keyboard ment very easy and fast controls
Fuck yourself Nazilover
What class is the best and why it is city guard/paladin?
while i agree with pic related, you forget one thing..
you can disable the minimap, ? marks, quest tracker and all else in the options in witcher 3
i did just that on my first playtrough, and it was an awesome game.. sure there still was some degree of handholding but nothing compared to playing with minimap on
>disable marks
>"Go to that NPC in Novigrad"
Good luck finding him
Who made those screenshots? Can't see shit.
>Gothic
>RPG
>you can disable the minimap, ? marks, quest tracker and all else in the options in witcher 3
I haven't played the game and I'm interested already, are you given any info on the quest when you disable those or you're just blindly searching? Because Gothic wanted you to find clues and there were clues, does Witcher have the same clues?
what is an RPG to you then?
I wish Witcher 3 took more notice of Gothic games wit its encounter design and progression curve. Sadly, it fell into the numbers game so many RPGs do with levels and shit. Gothic always felt more grounded in reality bdcause you were never thinking about "oh, these Snappers are level 30 so they're too dangerous for me" - you tired and they kicked your ass, you tried later when you had better gear and trained skills, you killed and skinned them. There's something a degree of obfuscation so it results in a more seamless world.
Played G1 with mouse for the first time yesterday and it's fine
G1 and G2 play almost exactly the same. G2 has just a lot more content.
Should for sure play G1 before G2, there are a lot of things in the first game story wise.
fucc
>disable minimap and markers
>you now have to stumble around like a retard because characters never give you details about the task at hand
Sorry, but that's not good design. Markers were a mistake and should've never been created.
...
Gothic 3 is trash, please go
>characters never give you details about the task at hand
No.
Is it necessary to play Gothic before Gothic 2?
I really want to play this game, but I haven't played the first one either. I just played Risen when it came out and I liked it a lot.
Should I just install the first with the mods suggested in the gog forums? Or should I wait for the DX11 renderer?
start from 2
no
Yeah it exists, it just literally nobody has played it and for a good reason too.
>start from 2
So, the story is unimportant?
How did a 2006 game look so good?
The only sin of Gothic 3's art is the human models, which look just fat.
no actually... TW3 gives a few hints, but not enough to play the game absolutely pointy marker free.... BUT !!!! how i did it, is to play the game with minimal HUD, only self healthbar, no questracker, no minimap, NO ?'s
the only thing i did was to check the World map ( M ) if i got really lost and had no clue.. i only checked the general location of where i have to go, and figured the rest out myself.. the npcs dont exactly tell you where to go, but give a general location, which is kinda enough most of the times. but as i said, turning the world map on sometimes helps a lot.
just make sure you follow these tips, if you want to play TW3 blind
>no ?'s
>no minimap
>no Quen sign (that shit is too op, makes the whole game a joke)
>no quest tracker (trust me, you dont need it at all....)
>death march
this way the game offers a really good experience, im not even memeing, TW3 IS a good game, you just have to look past the handholding garbage
and remember to read your bestiary
Witcher 3 had better story and character writing than Gothic. It also often had more interesting monster encounters, as it was often necessary to do some additional shit to defeat a monster, not just slice it with a sword. So what? Gothicfags BTFO?
Shut the fuck up. There are no perfect games and there will never be. Both Gothic and Witcher have their advantages and disadvantages.
2's story is separate from 1, and you don't need to play 1 in order to understand 2, but playing 1 will make you understand a lot of references to the first game
Then I think I'll play the first.
>It also often had more interesting monster encounter
Sure rolling and spamming left mouse button vs level-scaling boars is fun
Probably Fallout 4 :^)
Can you do this in your bamham game?
what ??? dont listen to that fag..
G1 introduces you to a LOT of characters, 50% of which will return in G2
seeing your pals in G2 without knowing who they are.... just no.. trust me on this. Gothic games are a very well written experience, play G1 first.
and yes, the story is important... you start g2 right after the events of g1, so you wouldnt even know whats happening in the world
You should, Gothic 2 is better but not all that much better, it's just more polished.
Thank you. Any suggestion for modding?
> level-scaling boars
Nice of you to confirm that you haven't even played the game retard.
Can you dismiss my argument? No? Then fuck off with rolling and spamming.
>fucking up baltram's comfy farm
damnit couldnt you just show off the spell on that bitch from the thieves guild ?
The main difference between Gothic 2's woods and the woods in games like TW3 is that in Gothic 2 the woods give a sense of danger and mystery, and make you feel small and isolated. There are a lot of powerful enemies that will one-shot you, and it's hard to spot them, and once they spot you it's hard to get away from them
dont ask me, i only used graphics adjustment mods, and even forgot which ones.. im sure some user can help you out.
What makes it trash?
Transformations and Summons are the most underrated feature in Gothic.
I have, and a fight against a lvl 10 boar is the same as a fight against a lvl 40 boar
Can you make a potion to enhance your abilities and conveniently cast a spell while engaged in melee combat in Gothic? Can you ride a horse? Can you manually aim with crossbow?
I didn't think so.
im still afraid
>TRASH combat, literally I cannot even describe how bad it is, and I liked G1 and G2 combat
>boring quests
>boring NPCs and dialogues
>repetetive as fuck
>garbage story and ending
>world is big but empty
>everything feels dull
>nameless looks fucking retarded
the world design in comparison is just wrong. you get a huge open world, which is absolutely barren... long open green nothingness..
the game doesnt use any "natural barriers" anymore
>Tfw ADHD and listening to the dialogue is real fucking hard
>It's a must to read the dialogue in this game
Damn
Scavengers, that's what we call the big birds, should be attacked one after another.
It's easy to lure single scavengers from the pack. If you come too close they'll become agitated, after a while they will storm towards your direction, and you should be waiting for them, with a raised weapon. If you strike the beast before it hits you, you have to keep fighting to be able to defeat the creature. If it hits you first, well just don't let them.
Can you do the wall skip in G1 like you can in G2?
Strafing seems fucked for me in G1
>can you enhance your already supernatural powers even more for absolutely free ?
>can you cheese your opponents with cheap circus tricks ?
>can you move faster in this HUGE empty world ?
>does this game have a crossbow that is utterly useless ?
CHECKMATE, ATHEISTS
>tfw this game actually teaches you basic luring tactics
why modern games use tutorial windows to tell you how to do your shit ? in G you had to talk to people in order to learn a few tricks
man... JUST
But that's not Desu Sex.
They're all good games. Gothic 2 did some things really well, such as punishing combat, rewarding player exploration, and having really good map design. But the plot was simplistic and often nonsensical, the only good characters were the ones you befriend in the prison colony in the first game and even then they're only there to help you and don't get fleshed out much. I felt like I only trudged through the story to access new areas, the world drew me in much more than the plot or the lore. So it was weak in that regard.
NoTR's story was great tho
It's still a tutorial, in that in-game mechanics are explained and fleshed out in-game. They just did it in a more immersive way by having the player talk to more experience NPCs to obtain their experience and knowledge. Functionally it does not differ from a tutorial dialogue window, but in terms of immersion it works a lot better at drawing you in.
>false
>false
>true except for the "empty" part
>so is crossbow in Gothic
Checkmate gamewars fags
I always see threads about Gothic and how good it is but never got around to trying it out
Would it be ok to start from Gothic 2? I can't see myself being able to get around the clunky controls etc that are apparently in Gothic 1
Also tips for a first timer?
it would be ok
>tips
steam version = install system pack
to attack hold LMB and press W/S/A/D
practice swinging with A/D until you can do it fluidly without stopping
Any suggestion to mod Gothic 1? Is the new renderer compaitble and usable? Or should I just use this guide?
gog.com
>NoTR's story was great tho
When I compare quality I do that for the base games and not the expansions (since often expansions are developed with tweaks to address fan concerns). Maybe that's just me. But even then NotR's plot was still in service of "here's a McGuffin thing you have to assemble so we can teleport you to a new area".
Gothic 1 has, in my opinion, a much better story, better music and a better atmosphere than the second part. Gameplay wise is the second part of course better. It just bothers me that the high textures in Gothic 2 don't really fit on all these low poly models.
>Also tips for a first timer?
Don't bite off more than you can chew.
Don't talk shit to people that talk shit to you at the start.
Don't even try the woods at night.
Don't even dream of funky looking caves.
Exploring is rewarding.
Don't bother with 1, it's only got keyboard controls that can really throw people off. Gothic 2 has a more modern control scheme of WASD+Mouselook
>geralt is op, drinking potions makes him more op. but thats ok because there is no power progression in that game, beside new swords
>use Quen sign, GG EZ
>ok u got me there.. TW has a nice world. but gothic didnt require horses, its world was just as filled, but more compact
>crossbows in G are the shit mang
has science gone too far ?
Use your common sense. Seriously. If you see bloody foot prints going into a cave don't go in there if you're still scraping together scraps for armor and weapons.
There is absolutely zero level scaling so expect areas you cannot access until you are tougher and better equipped.
Hoard money and think of ways to make money. This is one of the few RPGs that makes money extremely useful.
>Clunky controls
What, you get used to them in like 15 minutes, and they actually make sense
>you need to practice combat just as much as your character needs
>play G1, you will appreciate G2 and the whole series a lot more.
>the controls in g1 are fine, just keyboard oriented
>Talk to people, pay attention
>basically what said
I'm a Witcherfag Morrowindfag and Gothicfag eat shit
Got a link user?
OH one more thing, if by any chance you decide to play G1 first (which you should) remember, Ore nuggets are the currency of the game..
detail, but still..
type "gothic 2 steam fix" in google
>not enjoying all three
What's it like being a shit eating fanboy. I love CDPR but that's no reason why I shouldn't enjoy other games, especially Gothic since it influenced the design of the Witcher games.
...
>not enjoying all three
That's exactly what I said
Can you read ?
...
>but there is very little wrong with the game, actually almost nothing
jesus christ you krauts are so delusional
g1 is fucking garbage as an actual game
the only good thing about it is chapter 1
everything after that is extraordinarily linear and the combat is hot garbage
people love to post that image of "repetitive walking" in morrowind and gothic but clearly they never experienced the absolute tedium of chapter 3
SŁUCHAJCIE TY GŁUPIA KURWO
...
>doesn't change the fact that potions aren't free, you have to make, buy or find them. And why do you complain about that they increase Geralt's abilities? Would you rather them not have any effect? Why the fuck would they be there if not to increase character's abilities?
>Quen is OP, that I must admit. Are there any mods changing that?
>Yeah, I liked Gothic's world more, but I wish it was as big as Witcher's and still have the density of POIs and the fine-tuning it had. I fucking love large worlds. My personal preferences may be the reason why I don't understand people complaining about "empty" W3's world. They don't like long travel without quests or side activities, while I do like to travel for a long time from time to time.
>I don't know, I never could get into them, because they required investing into two stats, therefore limiting my ability to carry better weapons and such. I always used the bow, and even that rarely, because it was weak as fuck and the majority of damage to the monster I always dealt by sword anyway
My point in general is that there is no point bickering about which game is better, because none of them is better in every aspect. They all do some things very well, while doing other things poorly.
How did Gothic influence the design of Witcher? I never heard about that and it's not like this influence is particularly visible?
Mercs are the best faction
>Swag armor
>Lee is best faction leader
>them bastard swords
>them stylin armors
>fuck bitches get money
If you went Mage or Paladin, you fucked up
Seems like mage was the most underwhelming to me. You run out of mana so quickly. Dope spells though.
well, thats just like, your opinion man
now proceed to please a man orally
>Gothic since it influenced the design of the Witcher games.
Just how? They have almost zero things in common.
It blew my mind when I could transform into a bug to access buildings through tiny holes.
