Gunplay and enemy variety mostly. Everything else went wrong.

typical neo-Sup Forumsermin, try playing the game first
The magnificent bastard that was Samuel Hayden. If I live long enough to put my brain in a robot body, I want my voice synthesizer to sound exactly like his.
raise your standards
Everything and then some. My only real complaint would be the way they handled secrets. They reward you for finding them with very important items, which is stupid because the secrets themselves are already rewards. Now you have double the incentive to find them and that kind of pushes it toward "necessary pace breaking side quest" more than a "oh cool look what I found".
I have not played any custom maps or the multiplayer, but I didn't buy it for either of those so I don't really care. I have not heard good things about them though.
Everything except multiplayer
>They reward you for finding them with very important items, which is stupid because the secrets themselves are already rewards.
Fuck off stupid nigger, that's how secrets are supposed to be
Gameplay reward > meaningless metagame reward
>OMFG this new game that just came out is NOT in absolutely every way identical to that game in the franchise that I played when I was 8 how fucking dare they
If all nostalgiafags just died today, games would improve 100%
* it's full blood action game rather than wanabee horror game
* grotesque enemies
* aesthetics of levels
* "fuck you realism!"
* "certified badass" first person animations
* climbing and double jump, greatly increasing mobility
* kills giving health encourages staying close to enemy, and discourages use of cover
* nearly every attack can be easily avoided
* voiceless and faceless protagonist
* upgrade system doesn't fuck up base gameplay, but isn't meanless either
* all weapons are fun to use except poor bastard Plasma Rifle. Q4 Plasma Rifle still the best
Speed
I don't think you understand what I meant. Finding the secrets is already rewarding, because the secret itself is a reward. Whether it's a weapon, some armor or ammo replenishment. But then they tack on an additional objective which requires you to find secrets, and completing that objective gives you really big rewards. The latter part is what I find badly designed.
Most of it did, although I feel like praeator and weapon trees detracted from the skill and playstyle choices that the game lent itself to.
>I could use the most ideal weapon in the situation, but if I don't get a certain amount of kills with the shotgun I won't be able to be OP!
>q4 plasma rifle
q4 had no weapons with 'plasma' in its name
q3's plasma gun felt alright to use
doom3's pg felt absolutely pathetic, sounding like your typical weak pew pew blaster and shooting little blue sparks, its reload sounds were reused for when you swap the mods on the Gaus Cannon
and d44m's plasma gun actually feels and sounds good, it's incredibly hard to make a weapon of this type satisfying to use
>Samuel Hayden
That name...
Yeah the challenges shouldn't exist.
>completing that objective gives you really big rewards
well, "biggest" reward were usually weapon a level or 2 earlier than they would be handed over to you anyway. It's not so different from finding rocket launcher in first level of Doom 2, or double shotty in first level of Serious Sam.
If you applied your brain you would know he's referring to the Hyperblaster
Actually it's supposed to be satan.
S. Hayden, when said fast sounds like satan
user please listen to what I am saying.
Oh fuck
It really doesn't. Only if you deliberately mispronounce it. This is one of the worst forced memes I've ever seen on Sup Forums.
>If you applied your brain you would know he's referring to the Hyperblaster
no shit nigger
Music was fucking garbage
Mick Gordon is a faggot
You know the Hayden is pronounced like "Hi-den", right?
>q4 had no weapons with 'plasma' in its name
Q2/Q4 Hyperblaster is exactly same thing. And Q4 hyperblaster looked amazing due to high RoF, velocity and how projectiles looked. Upgrade where plasma would bouce off surfaces was pointless, but made it look even cooler
spit&polish approach to the design
You seriously have some shitty reading comprehension.
kys :^)
It's a surname derived from "hay"
Why would it be hiden?
so 1 bonus weapon upgrade point (which is more in game than needed for all weapons and upgrades in game anyway) is "big reward"?
please, explain
>one weapon upgrade point
>really big reward
You get more weapon upgrade points just by killing all the enemies. The few you get from finding secrets or doing the bonus objectives are an utter pittance in comparison.
It was fucking fantastic.
My only gripe is thebest level design was foundry in the beginning, but it sounded like in the documentary it was one of the last levels designed.
Pumped for doom 2 and see where they take it. It's so goddamn fucking fun.
>he doesn't have slayer rank in every map on ultra nightmare
Explain yourself!
fuck off mick
no one likes you gay fuck party themes
That's not something the player knows when playing for the first time.
Yes it is, because the little info popup telling you about challenges tells you that's the reward.
The other thing.
You're an idiot.
HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT
It was a nice tech demo for Vulcan.
Good argument.
>implying is any better
>people with "catch them all" mindset.
yeah, they exist, but why would I care about them? Besides, they will look for secrets out of principles.
only actual complain about secrets is how most of them can be found via armor upgrades
What other thing?
I played it half through until hell.
It sucks.
And I really wanted to like a DOOM game. I even liked Doom3.
I paid 25 bucks and I feel ripped off. Going to cut my losses and trade it in for 10 bucks.
Yes, it is? How is a first time player supposed to know there are enough weapon upgrade points to upgrade everything?
If there was no box on the screen saying "Find X amount of secrets!" then I wouldn't spend as much time looking for them. I know that may be autistic but that's just how it is and that's why it's a complaint in my opinion.
Because by the time the challenges are introduced to the player, the player has already been introduced to weapon upgrades.
...
>I even liked Doom3.
>I dislike d44m
get the fuck out how can one person be so wrong
>How is a first time player supposed to know there are enough weapon upgrade points to upgrade everything?
Because that's how video games are. Secrets are a thing casuals ignore. It is logical to expect they wouldn't be necessary for the average pleb in 2016 to find to be able to upgrade the guns
>How is a first time player supposed to know there are enough weapon upgrade points to upgrade everything?
because near every game does it? And if not, there's mechanic making it clear, that some upgrades are mutually exclusive
You realize he's the same voice actor that did KABAL in the Tiberian Sun series, right?
>get the fuck out how can one person be so wrong
Unlike you I played DOOM when it game out in 1993.
That's not true.
No you didn't. If you were that old 25 bucks would be nothing to you. Unless you still lived with your mom, kek
The not-serious campaign, the graphics, the gore, the general gameplay.
However the multi is shit, the complete lack of big arenas and hordes of enemies is shit, and the lack of real modding is shit - thanks consoles.
Well fuck me sideways...you're right. They sound so very similar though, don't you think?
I even played DOOM, before the Nightmare skill level was patched in.
I created WADs with DOOM Editing Utilities and lost them again.
>25 bucks would be nothing to you
I thought 25 € would be fine, if it's at least as good as Doom3. But it's way worse:
The music, the art direction, the enemy design, it's all Bethesda-tier garbage. One good level doesn't make up for it. The free DOOM Shareware had five of those.
Tying ultimate upgrades to achievement-style activity is genius.
Superb sound and music work.
I disagree. It slowed down gameplay by having to line up shots to fill these arbitrary requirements. It also prevented me from using the weapons I thought were best for the situation in favor of getting an upgrade I can't ignore because of how useful it is.
>It also prevented me from using the weapons I thought were best for the situation in favor of getting an upgrade I can't ignore because of how useful it is.
That's your own autistic ass's fault. It's easy to play it how you want and get the upgrade point you need just by killing the enemies instead.
No, you can't. A lot of the challenges were killing multiple enemies simultaneously, and by the nature of doom's gameplay you're almost always moving and killing enemies one or two at a time. You would not complete these quests at any reasonable rates playing normally.
Doom is pretty boring. It has no story at all.
It's full of forced cut-scenes.
only one I actually had to prepare to, was "8 enemies in one shot", whch yeah, was kind of bullshit, since you rarely have so many lined up.
Speed and actual level design.
Its not as refined as it could be. Hopefully the sequel improves on it. But they have a solid foundation to build on.
sum up Sup Forums in two posts
The gameplay itself is great. That being said the main storyline is really short and relies heavily on secret finding to extend the length. The unskippable cutscenes grow tiring on subsequent playthroughs.
Ultra nightmare and arcade remove the cutscenes
Magnificent bastard
monsterplacement was a dissapointment.
I can only recall a handful of arenas where they did something interesting.
8 in one shot is trivial with bfg
As much as I liked it, there wasn't a whole lot of imagination in level design. There wasn't anything like Barrels o' Fun. It needed more creative use of enemy composition and traps.
Only thing I disliked was arbitrary point of no returns in levels making it easy to miss a few secrets by accident.
He meant you can play without doing the challenges and still get weapon upgrade points just by killing.
It feels like of those shovelware WADs for the original game.
The gimmick maps like Barrels O' Fun and Tricks and Traps are the worst maps of Doom 2
>There wasn't anything like Barrels o' Fun
And thank God for that.
Come on m8's those are fun.
>that one level that had the throwback to dead simple
I came
I'm taking about the challenged based masteries needed to get the final upgrade on a weapon mod. They slow down the game but they're too good to pass up. Using half the ammo on the super shotgun or being able to move in the gauss canon's siege mode were fucking sick.
Gunplay and momentum was on point. The enemies were threatening over just "scary looking". Enemies used a multitude of different attack approaches minus pinkies/spectres and the hell knights. Constant ramp in difficulty. Core gameplay mechanics stayed he same minus adding a double jump later into the game and giving you more guns/upgrades. There were no "setpiece based levels" that broke up the base gameplay: there were certainly setpieces, but they kept running and gunning as their main mechanic aside from some minor platforming and switchpulling/key collecting. Graphics and sound design were on point, though nothing was especially amazing. Gore and aesthetic were nice for a game about a dude who awakens in sarcophagus of stone and bone to kill demons from hell.
Major nitpicks: Level design got lame near the end of the game (muh battle arenas). Plasma gun sucked donkey dick and the rifle without any attachments was also pretty mediocre but were both tolerable because they weren't completely useless. Multiplayer existed in the same vain that Duke Nukem Forever had multiplayer, because "le market trend" but that game was flaming hot garbage.
I personally enjoyed finding all the secrets and challenges. Some of them gave you some seriously OP weapons (at least for that particular part of the game), some of them just gave you more lore which is nice, and the challenges were fun as hell. Add in the soundtrack and the frantic gameplay (played on hurt me plenty) it was just an all around fun as balls game.
this
holy FUCK
Doom 3 > D44M
This
not even gonna provide [u] for those obvious baits
The thread was bait since the OP so
Right? That game was an absolute shitfest like every FPS Bethesda has so far queezed out.
Left click + F on every enemy. Rinse and repeat.
Bethesdrones crack me the fuck up with incredibly low standards, you fucks are worse than even Blizztards
>dark and colorless
>weapons with no feel of power
>tight corridors
>shotgun only effective at melee range
>boring as fuck cutscenes
>think it's a horror game
I dropped it after an hour or so. Tell me, what's the appeal?
Kinda bland level design that feels like walking between enemy encounters rather than a level filled with enemies organically
The guns are fun and the graphics are great, but glory kills are a stupid mechanic
Also holy fuck the loading times are HORRENDOUS. Literally 3+ minutes at times. My CPU is pretty bad but I've never in my life seen a game with loading times this bad, EVER.
>Doom3
>I dropped it after an hour or so.
So after the tutorial?
>Tell me, what's the appeal?
Great design especially in the last half of the game.
Glorious fast-paced Q3TA FPS gameplay.
A really GOAT expansion.
the appeal is fuck off jew
>I'm retarded and it's the game's fault
>it gets better after 3 hours in
...
>So after the tutorial?
some time after killing first Pinky, which had color of a long dead pig, because fuck you colors, we gritty and serious now
>Great design especially in the last half of the game.
great design of what?
>Sup Forums now loves Doom 3
Fucking hipsters.
>My CPU is pretty bad but I've never in my life seen a game with loading times this bad, EVER.
what kind of CPU you have? I have 6 years old 2500k and only time loading took close to a minute was then starting up game.
im pretty sure they pronounce it "hay-den" in the game
Even Doom 3 looks way better than the bethesda abortion thanks to having actual art direction instead of "le aliens xD" shit
>it's shit cuz bethesda makerting team said so xd
The sound design.
All of the sound effects are punchy and cathartic.
When the doomguys fist connects with something, it's meaty, heavy, and satisfying.
The super shotgun sounds like god cracking his knuckles and I love it.
