Pillars of Eternity 2 - Deadfire

>Only 7 companions, 1 less than the first game
>Party size reduced to 5, so you can only have 4 of them with you at a time
>Vancian Casting taken out
>Romance shit added in
>No Avellone
>We get Megan Starks (Kills-In-Shadows, Bleden Mark) instead
Have you taken your pledge off?

Actually, in the Q&A, Carrie said that she'd be writing Aloth and then said that she would write the 8th companion if we got it.

So, we're gonna get 8 after all. There will be a stretch-goal for it.

More companions doesn't always mean better, and I'm enjoying Eder and Aloth returning (though I would've enjoyed Grieving Mother more, I understand)
It can be annoying when the party size is smaller than the number of companions you can have, but it's only a bad design move if it's only just smaller (one or two) - four companions at a time seems reasonable if we end up with seven or eight in total
Vancian casting a shit
Romance is something Obsidian entertainment traditionally do well, especially in their crpgs (KotOR II, if that counts as 'romance', Mask of the Betrayer). Who knows, hopefully they can get George Ziets back writing for them, he did well with Safiya.

The blue guy isn't the prince after all, like some of you were theorizing. He's a Chanter named "Takeu" or something like that.

Never pledged in the first place, it's on fig and the first game was a letdown.

So we've got:
>Eder - Fighter
>Aloth - Wizard
>Paladin Vagina - Paladin
>Takeu - Chanter
>Maia - Ranger
>Xoti - Priest
>Furry Midget - Rogue (?)

Does Obsidian hate Barbarians and Monks or something? The first game didn't have any of those either until the expansion.

The furry midget is a Cipher/Barbarian

TWM added monk, rogue and barbarian.
The barbarian was shit, but both the rogue and monk were interesting enough.

I didn't back the first one because of the SJW shit drama but it ended up being a decent game.

I'm not giving any money to this now because of 3.3 million dollar man, but once it's out I'll buy it if it's good.

>Cipher/Barbarian
The fuck kind of combination is that?

And why's he using guns in the promotion image if he's a Barbarian (half)? Shit doesn't make sense.

That's why I said until the expansion, brainiac. Also the Devil of Caroc was a shit character.

Can't you choose between two classes for your companions now? So you can make Eder a fighter or a rogue, if you want.

That said, I wouldn't mind a qt romanceable barbarian girl

George Ziets is working full time with Inxile, unfortunately.

>tfw no shortstack dwarf barbarian gf

Aloth - Wizard
Edér - Fighter/Rogue
Pallegina - Paladin
Maia - Ranger
Serafen - Cipher/Barbarian
Takeu - Chanter
Xoti - Priest/Monk

That leaves a Druid as the last class that will probably be represented with the eight companion.

>That's why I said until the expansion,
Shit. Sorry.

It's a weird combination, but it doesn't need to be a combination. He can be a Cipher/Any class and a Barbarian/Any class. He doesn't have to be both Cipher and Barbarian, he just needs to be one class of those two. You can spec him fully Cipher or fully Barbarian with no multi-classing either.

And the devil was fine, even if it wouldn't have hurt to flesh her out more (pun not intended).

So do only those three get dual classes, or will the rest get a second class as well that hasn't been announced yet?

Damn, I thought he was just working with them for Torment and with that released he might've been freed up to work on Deadfire a bit. Still, I'm glad he's employed by them fulltime since Safiya is my favourite vidya romance ever. Please let Torment be good.

We're here to suffer, user.
I'd actually enjoy seeing more atypical class/race combinations for characters, especially for romanceable ones. Like an elf fighter or barbarian.

...

That's just their base class.

Aloth has to be a Wizard, but you can spec him into being a Wizard/Cipher, a Wizard/Rogue or even a Wizard/Barbarian, he just needs to have at least his first level be as a Wizard.

Same deal for Edér, except you can choose to have him be a Fighter at the start or you can have him be a Rogue at the start. He can be a Fighter/Ranger, a Rogue/Chanter or just a Fighter, or just a Rogue.

Don't forget the bit about those faggot SJW liberal cucks at obsidian making Edér get angry if you hurt innocent animals.

Yes but, does anyone else get two?

If you faggots fall for this bait for the third time in a row, then you truly deserve the derails.

Nah. They're making all 8 companions fit all the possible classes. 8 companions, 11 classes, that's 3 dual-classes.

He was listing all the shit people have been bitching about; he missed one.

That's kinda lame.

I'd rather have them give everyone some extra options than being autistic over having an equal amount of everything.

It's just interesting, that's all, especially since their system allows for a far broader range of effective class/race combinations than, say, d&d based games.
And yet for Pillars we got the regular human fighter, an elven wizard, a crazy human priest, a Godlike paladin (granted, this was a critical choice if anything because of how different Paladin orders in Pillars are), a halfling druid. Sagani was probably the most interesting of the base companions in this regard, but even that is more to do with the difference between Boreal dwarves and stereotypical dwarves than any conscious design decision to give her a contrasting race and class.
I want my qt elf barbarian/two-handed fighter, damnit

>than being autistic over having an equal amount of everything
...you do know who is working on this game, right?

Will I actually have to finish the first one?
Did they say something about porting over savegames?

So... How the FUCK did Eothas manage to animate a fucking crystal sculpture?
I can completely buy that he hid in it after he got his shit beat in by some farmers. But being able to move around a inanimate object seems like a stretch, even for a fake asshat.

And why didn't PoE 1 give you some moment where you could truly stick it to the gods? Which are my favourite part of that universe. I absolutely love how the gods in the game are such fucking assholes.

>Did they say something about porting over savegames?
Yeah. They mentioned in the trailer that old choices would still matter.

Fuck me... I'll race through it on easy then I guess.

>I'll race through it on easy then I guess.
I did that the other week to see if I wanted to back the sequel.
It's a pretty long fucking game. Although I did most quests and both DLC.

The statue is made of adra, which is a highly soul-conductive material.

You don't have to, you can just pick the choices you made when starting PoE2.

Adra animats user

>The statue is made of adra, which is a highly soul-conductive material.
But since when can souls move and bend solid objects? I'm starting to think it's a dream sequence.

And why does everyone go on about how the Grieving Mother is so great? The characters quest was shit. And not in a "wall of text is bad" way, it was just not very interesting.

I don't think they are solid adra.

constructs animated by souls are very frequent in the setting

you can make all manners of bullshit with the power of souls, including all wizard spells that conjure physical weapons

considering its the "soul" of a god, it probably has the ability to make its own joints

they aren't, but they're also not being animated by a soul with godlike powers

We can save Steward and bring her to our ship stronghold... right?

Grieving Mother is not very popular. I think she got a bit overrated because Avellone wrote her.

Durance is legitimately great, though.

Obviously, she'll be the figurehead of our ship.

so basically the adra statue is now literally the Gurren Lagann

Nyah!

Stop posting this

Is squidhead a new race or something?

Probably a godlike aumaua.

please tell me i get to fuck that in the sequel

Nyah yourself.

What do you think the Watcher is raising the kidnapped Orlan cub for?

Fuck off already, shill.

How do we stop RPG Codex?
Sensuki should pay!

How did he lose his prestigious tag and get a cuck one?

There's more to relationship than just romance, like hate, comradery, trust, rivalry etc.

Will the 8th companion be a girl?

And red hot orlan slave dickings.

But romance is a part of it.

Do you agree with Josh on this?

Josh has gone back on this, though. He said that companions can outright leave or fight you now.

Now he's advertising the exact opposite. Is he bipolar?

and?

If you finished the first you can load up your savegame. Apparently the game automatically makes a hidden save then you finish.

If you didn't finish the first game, you get a short prologue to make the important decisions from the first game at the start of the second game.

Not really.
One part of PST that I loved was how you often had to consider your companions when talking or doing things.
It makes them feel more meaningful and less shallow.

Like how you always had to lie regarding who you were if you had Vhailor as a companion, or he'd try to kill you. Felt amazing to know that you have this live bomb in your back pocket that could go off at almost any time.
Being slightly afraid of the people who are supposed to help you can do a lot to immersion.

The Adra statue was rather heavily damaged in some parts in the first game, but in the second game it's fully intact. It's not farfetched that Eothas changed it in other ways as well to make it capable of movement. It's basically just one big container for his god-soul anyway.

I beat PoE but haven't purchased the expansions yet. When I purchase the expansions, do I have to restart the game to play them? Or do they continue after the base game ends?

The expansions have a new area for level 7 content, you can't get to them after you finish the main game.

I think the game makes a save just before you enter the temple to face Thaos.

>The expansions have a new area for level 7 content
Why didn't they make it for endgame level?

i have not been fallowing this but you will beable to import your character from the first game right?

Yes.

Yes

Dunno, although the expansion does also add some high level content in other areas.

Because a lot of people dropped the game at chapter 2. There's a level scaling option when you enter White March for over leveled parties.

When given the choice do you use items with +attributes or +defence?

Depends on the attributes, but deflection is pretty great.

>>Vancian Casting taken out
What did they replace it with?
Mana? Or some generic MMORPG cooldown shit?

cool. i love my dick rouge.

Apparently powerful spells take a long time to cast and can be interrupted.

So basically useless as the enemy will either move or the battle will end

Guess they'll go 4e on it, which they pretty much did already for everyone except mages, priest and for lesser extent druids. You will have encounter spells, per rest spells and such.

>Vancian Casting taken out
Good riddance.

Sucking the dick of the rules of old tabletop RPGs is not the way. Just because it works with pen and paper does not mean it works with vidya.

Hope it's a dwarf, don't really care which gender. Although a rehash of Korgan from BG2 would be fucking awesome and somewhat balance out those bland "good guys".

You can move the marker for where the spell lands mid-casting.

The system is pretty much the same as it was, except there's no more per-rest limit on spells. So you can cast all your spells at any time.

Instead of spell limits, spellcasters have a limited supply of "charges" that they can use when casting spells. Using a charge makes the spell more powerful. So if you're out of charges, you can still cast spells, but they're a weaker version of what you can cast with charges.

It's probably going to be a Druid, since that's the only class not represented in the current lineup. Might be a Dwarven Druid, since there's no Dwarf in the lineup yet either.

>Party size reduced to 5

That´s the only part of the game i´m gonna dislike. Hope they still keep the options for us to recruit 5 [charnames] at the inn.

>Hope they still keep the options for us to recruit 5 [charnames] at the inn.
I think that's already been confirmed.

Should have just said fuck it and go turn based. I'll never understand why rtwp held in such high regard while it is the worst of both worlds .

Good, because PoE 1 story companions had shit stats at time.

Casuals cannot into turn based.

Can't you just mod the party size? I think you could change it in the first game.

>Orlan cub
Context? Finished the game way back and I don't remember any Orlan cub.

Yeah, I'd be completely okay with them using Divinity: Original Sin combat. Not that I have a problem with RTWP, I just prefer turn based.

I only ever tried the IE mod for PoE. But due to the spam of updates obisidan did for the game, the mod had to be updated too all the time.

There's a quest in the first game where you have to kidnap and sacrifice an Orlan cub. If you do the kidnapping part but then either kill the questgiver or simply don't finish the quest, you can keep the cub and one of the endgame slides mentions that. It's already been hinted that keeping the cub will have consequences in the sequel.

>you have to kidnap and sacrifice an Orlan cub
Dafuq, I don't remember it. Where's the questgiver?

The fuck? Where was that quest? I was sure i did all of them, but seems i missed it.

in the tree city place

It's in Twin Elms. I just killed the guy when he told me to do that.
